ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 23, 2025

I always knew I was different, but I had no idea a wolf hid beneath my skin—until I met him.

Isabella
My mentor died under suspicious circumstances. Now I’ve inherited his old vet clinic—and a mystery. Locals whisper he pried too deep into the forests of Shadow Hollow.
I can’t ignore the clues he left behind. Unknown to me, my grandmother was a wolf shifter banished for marrying a human. Then Ryder appears—alpha, protector, and dangerously magnetic. He warns me to leave the past buried. But I can’t.
Around Ryder my wolf side stirs for the first time, craving release. But I can’t shift.
Ryder stands beside me, though the pack Elders don’t trust half-shifters like me. I refuse to run.
Their acceptance of me could save us—or destroy us all.

Ryder
As the alpha of the Nightshade Pack, the weight of our survival rests on my shoulders. With shifter birth rates plummeting and tensions rising, finding a solution has never been more urgent.
Then I met Isabella. From the instant our paths crossed, I knew she was mine. But how can I claim her when she thinks she is a human? Even once she knows there is a wolf inside her she is unable to shift.
With Crimson Claw stalking the shadows, hunting wolves and anyone who stands in their way, her inability to shift puts her in more danger. But Isabella is more than she knows—and I’ll risk everything to uncover the truth.
Time is running out, and without her by my side, both my leadership and our pack’s future are at stake.
When two worlds collide, can love defy ancient boundaries and forge a new path?

REVIEW: FATED WOLF’S DESTINY is the first instalment in Delta James’ contemporary, adult CASCADE WOLF CHRONICLES paranormal, romantic suspense series focusing on the Nightshade Pack of Shadow Hollow. This is Pack alpha Ryder Stone, and veterinarian Isabella ‘Bella’ Gordon’s story line.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ryder and Bella) FATED WOLF’S DESTINY follows in the wake of the arrival of veterinarian Isabella Gordon. When her mentor died under mysterious circumstances in Shadow Hollow, Isabella discovered she inherited the old man’s veterinarian practice, a practice set in the unwelcoming town where her grandmother once lived but all is not as it appears to be; the town is run by wolf shifters, and Isabella Gordon is an outsider digging in where she doesn’t belong. Pack alpha Ryder Stone knows immediately Isabella Gordon is more than human, but more specifically , Isabella is his mate but when the Crimson Claw begins to circle the town, Ryder becomes guardian and protector of the woman with whom he will fall in love.

The world building focuses on the search for the truth. A mutated group of hybrid wolves known as the Crimson Claw is taking aim at the shifters of Shadow Hollow, and in this, Bella is determined to uncover what is happening and how.

The relationship between Bella and Ryder begins acrimoniously as Bella is an unwelcome visitor in Shadow Hollow. The majority of the Pack members view Bella as a problem, while the others know Bella , more than many, has been a member for a very long time. As Ryder is pulled to the woman he will quickly call mate, someone else is targeting our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are limited but intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of energetic, leery and angry secondary and supporting characters. We are introduced to Ryder’s second in command and brother Lucas, Sheriff Edmund Barnes, as well as several pack members, including Marjorie Reed and Dorothy Canning. Lucas’ story line is next.

FATED WOLF’S DESTINY is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, secrets, mistrust and suspicion, acceptance and love. The very familiar premise is intriguing and entertaining- I feel like I have read this story before; the romance is fated and fast; the characters are animated.

Little does Captain Archer know how entwined his life has become with hers, and to what lengths she’ll go to show her gratitude.

Enter the alternate Regency England, where dangerous things prowl the darkness.

A Matter at New Year’s Novella
Robert Archer, returning home from a New Year’s gathering in 1823, stumbles upon a trio of were-beasts (shape-shifters) who can’t be up to much good. Only the aid of the lady night-slayer lets Robert reach home intact.

Review:

Robert Archer Paranormal Mysteries (A Matter of Honor / A Matter at New Year’s) by Ashley Gardner are two novellas that is listed separately below.

A Matter of Honor
A Matter of Honor by Ashley Garder is the first book in this series. This is a paranormal story about two brothers, which is a very short story. Captain Robert Archer, the younger brother, lost an artifact which gives his family stability and strength.  His brother is slowly dying, as he knows that without the artifact, he may not survive. Robert is also affected, as he has became a drunken acholic, desperate to find the artifact.

A number of years ago, Robert helped a female night-slayer (supernatural beings-similiar to vampires), with giving her baby to a good family.  The night-slayer keeps an eye on him, always trying to help him, show her gratitude. She will learn who stole the artifact, and Robert’s brother will gain back his strength.  This was a short novella with paranormal, mystery and historical elements.

A Matter at New Year’s

A Matter at New Year’s is the 2nd book in this paranormal series, filled with historical mystery. The night-slayer continues to appear on occasion to help Robert, whenever he is in danger; especially as he oversees her adopted daughter, Anne. Robert is rescued by the night-slayer, when a trio of were-beasts (shape-shifters) put him in danger.  The following morning, a man was murdered, and the were-beasts fear they will be blamed for the murder.

They seek out Robert, to enlist his help to prove their innocence, and they know he has the night slayer as a friend.  Robert goes on a dangerous quest to discover more about the weres, and who really murdered the victim.  As we get closer to the end, Robert, with some of his friends, find out who killed the man; our nice night slayer manages to have the killer reveal the truth.  The weres are happy, and Robert is now considered a friend.  I really liked the ending, as the nameless night slayer visits Robert on New Year’s, bringing champagne.  Is there something in the future for them both?

The Robert Archer Paranormal Mysteries is a Regency story, with mysteries and Paranormal beings.  Both books were very well written by Ashley Gardner.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 25, 2025

My name’s Cat, and boy, do I have a tale for you. Imagine waking up to find yourself in a world utterly devoid of life’s essentials—no Netflix, no Wi-Fi, and, brace yourself, not a single Starbucks in sight. Where, you ask? Well, that’s a nightmare I’m still unraveling.

Here’s the scoop: one moment I’m pulling off a daring stunt on a Hollywood set, and the next, I’m gasping for air in a realm that’s straight out of a fantasy novel. This place? It’s overrun with werewolves, vampires, warlocks, fae and, to top it off, dragons. Yes, actual fire-breathing dragons!

But wait, there’s more—I’ve somehow taken the place of my doppelgänger Lady Arya Ryder, a noblewoman whose reputation is as tarnished as an old sword. Now, caught in the mess she left behind, I’ve got no choice but to navigate this medieval minefield. And then there’s Damien Drakonar, the third prince. He’s a dragon, yes, but not the knight-in-shining-armor type.

No, Damien is the sort who would sooner burn you alive than glance your way. He’s a perilous enigma, straddling the line between savior and destroyer. Despite our mutual contempt, our fates are ominously intertwined as we face the devastation Arya’s actions have unleashed.

Now my only option is to find my way back home and fast, but many obstacles stand in my way—including Damien. Will I ever make it back home? Only the shadows hold the answers.

•••••

REVIEW:This author can always be relied upon to deliver a detailed and amazing story. It’s got some graphic fight scenes. Yes it has a mild cliffhanger (next book not out till April!) But don’t let that stop you from enjoying this read.

Cat is a stunt artist, she loves her job. But on a shoot she’s transported to another world (literally!) This one has dragons/witches/vampires and real werewolves! She’s got a temper, but also a wicked sense of humour, and I feel she’s going to need it.

Damien starts this book off, he’s a dragon shifter about to shift for the first time…. But that’s not allowed! Why? Well…. Apparently he killed his mother in childbirth 😞 and his father hears of a prophecy and locks down his dragon and his son! He allows him to leave his cage to look for his mate, then he will be free to claim his throne.

Lady Arya has been replaced by Cat. But what of her story? Apparently she’s not a nice person (which given Cat looks/sounds and acts different from Lady Arya how does no one spot she’s missing?)

So many other characters in this book will either help or hinder our reluctance heroine.
A warlock (Garrick) who wants to help her return to her world (hmm, why do I think there is more to it than meets the eye!) Maeve (Arya’s servant) could she be friend or foe? She seems to want to help Cat find a way home. And the lovely Gianna, who is in love with Damien (that’s got to cause waves somewhere along the line!)

And the ending? Well! I wasn’t sure how it would end, but I didn’t think it would end that way! 🫣

Don’t think Cat is going home anytime soon!

If your in the mood for a world of doppelgängers/dragons/warlocks/witches and fae, then I’m going to recommend this book, I was captured from the first word.

Then I met him. Dangerous. Carnal. Dragon And utterly magnetic. I had no defenses against the passion that claimed us. Each time his lips touched mine, each time his arms held me, I fell deeper.

And I fell hard.

My mortal enemy became my world. The very reason for my existence.

My one and only.

Until our forever was violently snatched away. Now, I’m hunted, once more.

But I’m not running this time. I’m fighting for love.

For him.

A hellhound facing her past. A dragon reclaiming his throne. Forbidden lovers will face the ultimate test.

••••••

REVIEW:THE UNCROWNED KING is the second instalment in Donna Grant’s adult THE BASTARD paranormal, fantasy duology set in the author’s Dragon Kings world. This is the continuing story of Dragon Derek, and hellhound Kora. THE UNCROWNED KING should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events of THE BASTARD KING. I recommend reading the Dragon King series in order as there is an ongoing premise including the search for a missing King, and the history as to how the dragons came to live in Zora.

SOME BACKGROUND: For tens of thousands of years the Dragons have lived and ruled on Earth but a war between the dragons and humans forced the Dragon Kings to send the other dragons through a portal into an unknown world. Fast forward to present day, the portal has been revealed, and the Dragon Kings have been reunited in Zora, with their family and kin, but a new war is on the horizon between the Dragons, the Divine, the people of Stonemore, and a woman known as Villette

Told from omniscient third person perspectives including Derek and Kora THE UNCROWNED KING continues to focus on the search for Derek-who is the mate to Kora, and under the control of Miena, a powerful Star Person who is taking aim at the dragons and Dragon Kings but Derek, and his brother ‘Gordon’ are unfamiliar to the Dragon Kings, and Con, unfamiliar in a way that is unnatural and wrong. Having found then once again lost the man that she loves, Kora must go in search of our hero, a dragon who has target Kora and the Kings.

The world building is, once again, complex and detailed, following several paths, several fights and battles, and a layer of mistrust that runs dangerous and deep.

The relationship between Derek and Kora is tempestuous throughout the series as Derek is lead to believe Kora is the enemy; that the Kings killed his mate; and his obedience has been commanded by the only woman he has ever known. Often times left to his own devices, Derek struggles with the memories that may or may not be real but memories that threaten his future with the woman he once loved. The lone $ex scene is passionate.

Once again, there Is a large ensemble cast of powerful, magical and supernatural beings, all of whom we have met in the numerous interconnected series. Con and Rhi return, as well as their children Brandr and Eurwen; and Villette, Eurielle and their sister Miena.

THE UNCROWNED KING reveals a potentially new path and new ARC with the inclusion of hellhounds, the Star People, and the new clan of dragons under Derek’s command. The premise is intricate and thorough; the romance struggles in the face of lies and mistrust; the characters are desperate and magical.

I was lucky enough to find my alpha when I was a teenager. We grew up together. Experienced all the high school sweetheart moments between us. Life should have been perfect.

Except that no pack wants an already bonded omega. I know that firsthand. It’s been ten years since we’ve started looking and we’ve visited a hundred packs through Pack Listing. None of them want an omega and her alpha.

But someone wants us. In the middle of the night, we’re abducted. Taken away, separated, and tortured – all in an attempt to break our bond. We’re somehow rescued and enrolled in the government’s protection program where we’re dumped into a home made up of other victims.

For the first time in my life, we’ve found a pack that isn’t awful. One that treats us both good; one that wants both of us. But I have to keep reminding myself that this is not my pack. We’re here by circumstance.

None of that matters. It doesn’t appear that we’re safe here, either.

•••••••

REVIEW:⚠️TRIGGER WARNINGS ⚠️

This isn’t one of my favourite series that this author has written, but this book…. Oh lord… I absolutely loved it.

Alpha’s are the protectors, they see to their omega’s needs. Omega’s are softer, need protection and most are happy to be homemakers. Then we have the Beta’s not needing protection, but not strong enough to protect and keep an omega. So that causes a lot of resentment from the Beta’s, they can be added into a pack, but most form packs of their own. (I always thought this was kind of sad.)

Imagine finding your Alpha when you’re in high school, the happiness that an Omega feels when she’s safe in the knowledge that she will never be alone and now will always be protected…. That’s the good part, but you are suppose to be a pack, but if established packs only want an omega, and not a paired omega with her alpha, what’s left?

This story has it all…. Happiness/desperation/kidnapping/loss and the hope of finding a family. Paired/bonded mates can’t be separated. (A bite from your alpha makes it impossible.)

Talya and Colby have known they were meant to be together since teenagers. They thought they’d find their pack, years have gone by and nothing! Alphas need an omega, what they don’t need is another alpha! And we get to witness their pain at being rejected time and again. Unit/family/affection are all they have ever wanted. It’s also easier to protect an omega if there are more of you in a pack!

Talya is not your normal omega, she stands up for herself and doesn’t back down from fight/argument.

Colby is your typical alpha. But there is also a side that feels like he’s let his omega down! He needs a pack as much as she does.

There is so much to cover in this book. And plenty I’m not going to say. But I found the kidnapping by the Beta’s both interesting and scary! They are trying to break bonds that have already been formed!

(There’s torture and violence, so be warned!)

Then we come to the center that houses other victims, Colby and Talya are enrolled into the government’s protection program, and this is where we meet other alphas/betas that have been treated in the same way!

Trust needs to be earned, and slowly that trust comes, but both Colby and Talya are wary, why would this pack be any different, just because they are thrown together, doesn’t mean they are pack! It’s sad to read at first, you know these new characters are meant to be with Colby and Talya, but they don’t trust anyone after what they’ve been through. 😞

This series doesn’t need to be read in order. Although there are characters that have been in other books. But unless you read the previous books, you wouldn’t be able to tell.

I love reading the before and after notes the author writes for us. I think it adds a little extra to the story.

I did feel this could have been a two book story, the ending felt a little unfinished! 🤔 Personally I would have liked to have seen a better ending.

But I’m still going to recommend this book to all lovers of the Omegaverse.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date January 7, 2025

Silke Vriese Reinders knows a war is coming. The demon slayer has seen it over and over again in the cards—and the battle won’t just be for the survival of her remote village, but for all mankind. Silke knows the only way to win will be with the help of the Carpathians. A fact that fills her with trepidation, as she is fated to be the lifemate to one of the ancient supernatural warriors—bound to a complete stranger and responsible for his soul.

One of the oldest, most dangerous Carpathians, Benedek Kovak is more beast than man. Locked away for centuries, the only thing that has stopped him from becoming one of the monsters he’s sworn to defeat is the thought of his lifemate. When Benedek senses the impending danger, he sets out to find her before it’s too late. But their enemy has laid a trap that pushes him closer to turning than ever before.

For so long Benedek has felt nothing. Now, some dark art is compelling him to indulge in cravings he thought long buried. He has no hope that anyone can restore what’s left of his tainted soul, but Silke is nothing like he imagined. Perhaps she’s strong enough to fight back the darkness. Perhaps together they can defeat an adversary hell bent on destroying them all….

••••••

Sandy’s REVIEW:DARK HOPE is the 38th instalment in Christine Feehan’s adult DARK /CARPATHIAN erotic, paranormal romance series focusing on a group of powerful warriors known as Carpathians. This is ancient Carpathian Benedek Kovak and demon slayer Silke Reinders’ story line. DARK HOPE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: All Carpathian males must find their lifemates before they turn vampire or greet the dawn. Without a lifemate, the males no longer see in color, feel pain or experience emotions. A lifemate is the light to their dark. She is the keeper of his heart and the keeper of his soul. As the unmated Carpathian male ages, the darkness begins to envelope his soul, eventually turning the male vampire or forcing him to greet the dawn.

Told in several parts from several omniscient third person perspectives (Silke and Benedek) and the occasional tarot card, DARK HOPE continues to focus on a new direction for the series with the inclusion of dragons, serpents, demons, vampires, mages (from the Underworld commanded by Lilith), and a new character – witte wieven (wise woman) aka spirit walker aka healer. Silke Reinders is a demon slayer, and Lilith has commanded her demons and followers to destroy our story line heroine. Carpathian warrior Benedek Kovak knows Silke Reinders is his mate but as he journeys towards the woman who carries the other half of his soul, he, along with Nicu Dalca, Tomas, Lojos and Mataias encounter an uprising of demons and vampires, signifying the threat of war.

The world building focuses on Benedek’s search for his lifemate; Silke’s need to protect her mother; and the encroaching demons and vampires commanded by the underworld. The action packed story line follows the take down of a powerful demon and his minions with another protracted fight scene wherein our couple must fight separately and apart.

The relationship between Silke and Benedek is one of fated mates. Silke has been taught by Carpathian female Tora that she hold the other half to a warrior’s soul but Silke has no intention of taking orders from an ancient male. The lone $ex scene is intimate.

We are introduced to Carpathian female Tora Kros, one of the guardians of the gate; Silke’s mother and healer Fenja; ancient dragon Szelem, as well as the return of Nicu Dalca, Tomas, Lojos and Mataias. The requisite evil has many faces.

DARK HOPE, once again, focuses on the continuation of new story line arc: from Tarot cards that tell the ancients of the existence of a mate, gate keepers, demons and demon slayers, hellhounds and the Underworld, as well as the woman in charge, who perhaps has the assistant for a powerful vampire and mage. The arc also renegotiates the scarring of a Carpathian, and vampires that continue to work in tandem with someone else. The slow building, action-packed premise is engaging but familiar; the romance is fated and seductive but limited as our couple spend most of the story line apart. The characters are desperate and powerful.

Barb’s REVIEW: Dark Hope by Christine Feehan is the 34th book in her Carpathian series.  Silke Vriese Reinder, our heroine, knows there is a war on the horizon. Silke sees in her cards that the battle will begin soon; with the evil Lillith & her army, planning to arrive at her village to find the demon slayer. Silke is secretly the demon slayer, as well as she holds the soul of an ancient Carpathian, who is her lifemate. She knows she will need the help of the Carpathians to save their village.

Benedek Kovac, our hero, is one of the oldest and dangerous Carpathians, who has given up hope to find his lifemate, and after long years fighting against evil, is feels he is at the brink. But he senses impending danger, as he sets out with some of his long-time friends, to find his lifemate, before it’s too late. After a few attacks, Benedek and his group, manage to defeat some enemies, and they arrive in the village, where he will meet Silke.

At first, Silkie and Benedek will spend a lot of time to negotiate terms of their mating, especially Silkie determined to not become his mate.  Her mother pushes her to open her life and give him a chance. Silke was trained from a very young age as a demon slayer, and is having a hard time letting go of her solitary life to partner up with Benedek; even though she finds herself attracted to him.

Benedek begins to see Silke in a different and happy life, as he looks at the world through Silke’s eyes. He finally sees what her life is like in their village, and how he would be happy; with family, friends, and love; and her light changing his dark and chaotic life. Benedek had no hope that anyone could restore what’s left of his tainted soul, but Silke was strong enough to help him fight back the darkness.

Together they will begin to accept each others purpose and hope. Silke and Benedek worked separately, with him and his group determined to defeat a dangerous enemy and Silke, with her friends doing all they can to stop Lillith’s demons, vampires, mages and creatures in the village.

Dark Hope was an intense, wild, dangerous story that kept me glued to my seat.  I really enjoyed how Silke and Benedek slowly knew they were destined to bond as life mates.  There is more to come, as 4 of the men working with Benedek will eventually find their own lifemates. Dark Hope was very well written by Christine Feehan.

Silke was fourteen when Astrid’s now familiar voice told her to go to Tora and ask questions about a species of people called Carpathians. Silke always looked forward to listening to her mother’s voice and hearing her advice. This was the first time the recording hadn’t been just personal advice from mother to daughter. There weren’t her usual thoughts on the recording or even tips on fighting demons. Astrid instead detailed how important it was for her to learn about the Carpathian species and reiterated several times that she was to rely on Tora to educate her.Silke had grown up speaking an ancient language, one that Tora referred to as Carpathian. She’d asked, of course, where its origin was, but Tora had simply said she would reveal all to her in time. Silke was so busy learning everything from fighting skills to other languages that she had stopped asking. Now, her mother had specifically instructed her to learn what she could about the Carpathian people from Tora.

Tora had been her best friend almost from the first day Silke could remember, even before she could walk. Tora was kind and patient, and Silke considered her family, a sibling. Since both of her parents had died, as a child Silke clung to Tora. She always seemed older, although when they were children, she couldn’t have been more than five years older-at least that was what Silke had thought at the time.

“When I first asked you about the Carpathian species, you told me they were warriors, hunting vampires,” Silke said to Tora. “At that time, you said they slept in rejuvenating soil and drank blood without killing their donors. You told me they had tremendous powers, including shape-shifting and flying. You were very matter-of-fact. I didn’t have any trouble understanding or believing. Mostly because I knew you. When you told me that every gift comes with drawbacks, and you explained that Carpathians were nearly immortal but would become paralyzed during daylight hours and come out only at night, I realized you were Carpathian. You visited me at night, never during the day. Only once in that conversation did you mention demons and Carpathians in the same breath. I thought you meant vampires, but you didn’t, did you?”

Tora shook her head. “Carpathians view vampires as just that-vampires. They’re wholly evil and prey on every species on this earth they can. They create flesh-eating puppets and ruin the land. They have made alliances in the underworld recently. Banding together and making alliances is new, from what I’m told.”

That didn’t explain the demon reference Tora had so casually made all those years ago. Silke knew where vampires came from. When she turned fifteen, she learned that aside from being a demon slayer, her mother had also passed on another responsibility-a huge one. Silke guarded the soul of a Carpathian warrior. If that wasn’t fantasy, what was? When a Carpathian male was born, his soul split. He retained all the darkness, and somewhere, a female child was born with the other half of the soul made up of his light. His task was to find her and bind their souls together. It wasn’t easy to find their lifemate, and many of them succumbed to temptation, turning vampire, forcing friends to hunt them. The woman could die, and the soul would be born again and again for as long as the Carpathian male still existed.

The thought of such a responsibility at fifteen was disconcerting. Still, at fifteen, none of the things she learned about Carpathians seemed real. They were larger-than-life heroes, hunting vampires and keeping mankind safe. They were warriors fighting for others despite the constant whisper of temptation to kill while feeding just so they would feel a rush. Those were facts she’d learned from Tora.
