ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 2, 2021

Life as I knew it ended the day I accepted my fate.

In its place is an existence even the wildest imagination could never fathom. Strange creatures walk among us, plotting our demise, and I’ve come to find that the fate of our world rests squarely on my shoulders. We’re all in danger and I’m trying to figure out how to make it through each day.

The key to my survival is a man I can’t figure out. As dangerous as the darkest fae, I have no choice but to work with him to stop the prophecy that’s foretold to be the ruination of mankind.

Carrick Byrne continues to be my only source of information, but he doles it out as he sees fit. He intrigues and scares me in equal measure, yet I can’t help but be attracted to him. And the more I discover about him, the more it becomes clear he feels the same.

As we travel to Faere in search of answers, we find that every piece of information leads to more questions, that every question leads to a new piece of the puzzle, and that, most importantly, no one can be trusted.

The more secrets we uncover, one thing is certain— if we have any chance of saving the world, we have to do it together.

A Discovery of Secrets and Fate is book two of the Chronicles of the Stone Veil series and is best enjoyed if read in series order.

REVIEW:A DISCOVERY OF SECRETS AND FATES is the second instalment in Sawyer Bennett’s contemporary, adult CHRONICLES OF THE STONE VEIL paranormal/urban fantasy series focusing on twenty-eight year old Finley Porter. A DISCOVERY OF SECRETS AND FATES should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one THE REVELATION OF LIGHT AND DARK.

SOME BACKGROUND: All of her life Finley Porter has been treated for hallucinations but days before her twenty-eighth birthday Finley is pulled into a world of the Light and Dark Fae by a man who stirs something deep within our story line heroine. An end of the world prophecy declares our heroine the savior, and in this Finley struggles with her fated destiny.

Told from first person perspective (Finley) and third person (Carrick Byrne) A DISCOVERY OF SECRETS AND FATES picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book one (The Revelation of Light and Dark) in which on her twenty-eighth birthday Finley Porter is pulled into a destiny of which she wants nothing to do. The appearance of a powerful Dark Fae forces Finley under the protection of Carrick Byrne, a protection of which she refuses and denies but the Dark Fae aren’t going to stop with our story line heroine, but begin targeting the people she loves the most. In an effort to get answers, Carrick takes Finley to the land of Faere where our heroine will discover the hatred and discrimination directed at humans is not much different than the hatred many people experience on Earth. With her past revealed, and the future not yet set in stone, Finley and Carrick return to Earth where they will have to begin preparations to save the world.

Sawyer Bennett pulls the reader into an intriguing and fascinating world of the Light and Dark Fae. Finley Porter is a stubborn, oft-times immature heroine, and a little TSTL (too stupid to live) but when the reality of her situation threatens not only her life but the lives of the people she loves, Finley must pull up her big-girl panties, and prepare for the fight of her life. Like most urban fantasy series, there is a definite sexual tension between Finley and Carrick but Carrick reveals the truth about his future, and his future does not include our story line heroine. A DISCOVERY OF SECRETS AND FATES ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

About the book: Release Date august 16, 2016

Beautiful heiress Julianna Greenwich has everything she desires, except the one thing she wants most—freedom. Once again Julianna finds important life decisions being made for her as her father announces she is to mate with the scarred and guarded Vasilius Blackmoore. Vile but striking, insulting but distracting, no other man has managed to arrest Julianna’s interest so. Or her temper.

Loyal to a fault, Vasilius will do anything to protect his family, even if that means mating with a woman he detests. Anxieties remain from his previous relationship which left him physically scarred on his face, and he soon finds his residual feelings of anger and mistrust aimed at the blond-haired woman with whom he’s to bond.

Vasilius figures he can mate with the maddening princess of Greenwich house and simply keep her aside—like a forgotten book schlepped away on a shelf—but the tides turn quickly as he learns his plan is never going to work because his bruid-to-be has run away. Again. This time Julianna unknowingly landed herself in the sickly hands of the most hunted being in the world—a man who calls himself a God. The deranged God wants something Julianna has and he will use all of his abilities to obtain it. For the first time in his life, Vasilius doubts his ability to protect another, and for once, he’s scared.

REVIEW: ROGUE BLOOD is the fourth installment in T.A. Grey’s adult, contemporary THE UNTOUCHABLES paranormal romance series. This is vampires Julianna Greenwich, and Vasilius Blackmoore’s story line. ROGUE BLOOD can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Vasilius and Julianna) ROGUE BLOOD is a story of enemies to lovers; a match between two ancient families tied together by circumstance and need. Twenty four years earlier our couple met one fated night at a costume party hosted by Julianna’s mother and father, resulting in more than an eyeful of Vasilius’s conquests and bedroom antics. Several years later Julianna would find herself betrothed to Vasilius’s older brother Dominic-a relationship arranged by their families and a relationship that was doomed from the start. But now, Vasilius Blackmoore’s prior reputation as a man-whore was beginning to wane as the once handsome and beautiful vampire had been scarred in a vicious attack of revenge by an ex who wasn’t happy with the direction of their relationship. Fast forward to present day wherein Julianna’s father offers up his daughter to Vasilius Blackmore in exchange for a debt long over due. What ensues is a tempestuous friendship between two people with mistaken beliefs about one another, and the fragility of egos when hurtful words are more damning than the physical scars.

Julianna is a spoiled, rich, and pampered vampire whose parents are not long for this world. In an attempt to keep their daughter safe, Julianna’s father makes Vasilius an offer he cannot refuse, and in return Julianna’s father is able to rest knowing his daughter is protected and safe. Someone has been threatening our story line heroine, and the threats have become more frequent and personal. The relationship between Julianna and Vasilius is angry, malevolent and furious, and our heroine continues to run when things don’t go according to plan. As the two families prepare for the upcoming bonds, Julianna runs from the man with whom she is falling in love, and into a world of the dark arts and mythological magic with near fatal consequences.

ROGUE BLOOD has a large ensemble cast of characters including all of the previous story line couples. It is a story of betrayal and revenge; obsession and delusion; misunderstanding and forgiveness. The sexual chemistry is blatant; the romance is a struggle towards a happily ever after; the characters are dynamic, passionate and tragic. ROGUE BLOOD is an intimate tale with a little bit of mystery, suspense, romance and love wrapped in a supernatural blanket of magic, vengeance and vindication. For fans of the paranormal, vampires and were shifters T.A. Grey’s THE UNTOUCHABLES series is a definite must-read for your library of supernatural stories.

King Tomb (Forever Evermore #3) by Scarlett Dawn-a review

King Tomb (Forever Evermore #3) by Scarlett Dawn-a review

King Tomb

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date October 8, 2014

Queen Shifter, Lily Ruckler, has found solace in brutal warfare. Her bloodied fists and bared fangs fill the holes left in her memory, the blank spaces that leave her soul aching and empty. Her only pleasure is in blood; her only salvation is the relationship she has with her infant child, the baby of unknown origins who brings her solace and stability.

When Elder Harcourt summons Lily and her protector Antonio back to the United States, Lily thinks nothing unusual about the change of location. But a standard reconnaissance mission leaves her trapped inside King Zeller’s private quarters, and at his mercy. Surprise attraction rapidly turns to a battle of wills and an intense power struggle that leaves no clear victor but plenty of resentment.

They are not allowed to nurse their wounds. In order to win the war against the Commoners, the King Vampire and Queen Shifter must work together. It should be easy. The war is turning, the battle is deadly, and both Lily and Ezra love the cold cleanliness of combat. But their chance meeting has led to more than an unlikely alliance. Secrets have a way of surfacing, especially on a torn-up battlefield, and Lily and Ezra are about to re-learn all they cannot remember. If they can’t control their emotions and responses, it will be to their own ruin and the destruction of everything around them.

•••••••••••••

REVIEW: KING TOMB is the third instalment in Scarlett Dawn’s new adult, paranormal ‘first’ Forever Evermore Trilogy. Told from first person POV (Lily) King Tomb is the conclusion to Lily and Ezra’s story-one that began as adult students in King Hall-where Lily (wolf shifter) and Ezra (vampire) were trained to one day take over as King of the Vampires and Queen of the Shifters. KING TOMB sees Lily and Ezra fighting a war against the Coms (commoner/humans) all the while fighting the knowledge that their minds have been wiped and there are black holes where memories were once stored. The storyline advances the series twelve to eighteen months.

The focus of KING TOMB finds Lily embroiled in her own personal war –a new mother who has no recollection about the past-a past that directly affects her daughter and her own mind. Returning to the United States, she will be placed in direct contact with the man who once called to her heart but missing pieces of information and lost memories feed the hatred and ambivalence she now feels towards the vampire she used to love. While Lily and Ezra work to stop a war with the humans, the Elders work towards a peaceful reconciliation between their King and Queen. But magic is at work and the Elders are having a difficult time extrapolating the truth.

There is an immediate attraction between Ezra and Lily-one that does not go unnoticed by the Elders and one that is born out of a previous love. But when the mind is wiped clean of the past, no one is sure where they stand and whose side they are on. The one constant and important tie is a small three month old child whose DNA cannot deny her heritage or her parents.

The secondary characters drive a good portion of the storyline and there are new revelations and declarations of love from an unlikely source but a love that has lingered for years. We get an up close and personal look at Lily Ruckler and Ezra Zeller’s fathers-a trio of men whose own lives are becoming more complicated.

As for secondary characters, throughout the first two instalments King Jack (Mage) and Queen Pearl (Elemental) were a fixture in the storylines-best friends with Lily and Ezra-but two characters whose existence or presence in King Tomb was almost negligible until the end. They appear to have been forgotten or pushed aside.

KING TOMB is the final instalment in this trilogy. The storyline ends with a hint of more to come but one that does not necessarily focus on Lily and Zeller. There is a quick resolution to this story-a rush to the finish-one that left me questioning what happened and why. As Lily and Ezra travelled back in time-there is no real explanation as to how and why. This particular part of the storyline came out of nowhere, seemingly unquestioned by most of the people involved and one that left me with mixed feelings about the ending. There is a HEA but not necessarily one for this reader.

Wolf With Benefits by Shelly Laurenston-a review

WOLF WITH BENEFITS (Pride Series #8) by Shelly Laurenston

Wolf With Benefits

Amazon / Barnes and Noble / The Book Depository /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 26, 2013

Ricky Lee has no plans of getting serious about anyone, but he will protect Toni Jean-Louis Parker. Not just because he’s been hired to do so, but because it’s the right thing to do. And if that means traveling around the country with one complicated She-jackal, dealing with chocolate-eating wild dogs, instigating trouble between his brothers, and having the most amazing sex he’s ever had…well, who said his job didn’t have perks?

Toni doesn’t know how she keeps getting herself into these situations. But even she has to admit there’s something about Ricky Lee Reed that she finds kind of interesting…and downright sexy. Now they just have to survive long enough to figure out if what they have is worth fighting for…

***********************

REVIEW: Shelly Laurenston (aka G.A.Aiken) is one of my all-time favorite authors. Shelly’s world of shifters, whether it be pride and pack or dragon, is a world filled with humor. The ease with which Shelly’s characters and storylines pull you into the book is something every author should aspire to. I have a habit of re-reading novels that I enjoy, but if I am feeling a little down, one of Shelly’s books is one of the first books I head to –first.

Wolf With Benefits is one of those storylines where Shelly brings together many of her characters from previous storylines. And if you are a fan of the Pride and Pack series, you will be pleased to know that several characters from the Pack series make a return cameo. Our heroine is the daughter of Jackie the Jackal –yes you are reading that correctly-Jackie the Jackal whom we first met in the anthology WHEN HE WAS BAD in the short story Miss Congeniality !!

Toni’s believes her family of ten siblings need her to help stay organized and in a sense they do. But what Toni discovers is that her talents at organization stand her in good stead with the Van Holtz organization who offer her a prime position within the company. Wolf With Benefits follows Toni as she endeavors to cope with a family of ten siblings-all jackals- all prodigies in their own rights, and the knowledge that her one and only specialty leaves her feeling like a glorified babysitter. When she is asked to go to Russia to broker a deal with the Russian Shifter Hockey league, Toni learns that dealing with the Russians is not like dealing with her family back home- and what is happening back home is something even Toni would have a hard time comprehending.

Ricky and Toni’s relationship is slow to build, although they do meet within the first few pages of the book. Ricky is persistent and garnering a position as security for Toni allows Ricky more one on one private time that will eventually lead to the one thing both of them had not been looking for-a mate. And in true Laurenston style, the families, the wild-dogs, the lions and the wolves will become involved when one of the Reed boys looks like he has fallen in love with a she-jackal. We witness the OCD antics of Bo Novikov who discovers that a family of child prodigies is a little more than he can handle: Blayne Thorpe stunned that not everyone is pleased with her hyper rantings: and a family of wild-dogs whose own child prodigy is making a name for himself.

There are several secondary storylines building that will involve Dee Ann Smith, The Unit and a new member to the team whose shifter heritage is a surprise to everyone but a sexy, honey loving bear. And Shelly pulls no punches when a family member becomes a threat. Due justice will be served-not now-but in the future.

WOLF WITH BENEFITS is another wonderfully sexy and well-written storyline from the mind of Shelly Laurenston. If you are a fan of shifters and humor, Shelly’s Pride series is a definite must read. Shelly pulls the reader into the storyline and makes you feel like part of the pack , or pride, or clan or ….family.

If you are not familiar with the series, I suggest you start with the Pack series. Many of the characters from the Pack series have cameos in Wolf With Benefits.
