Description:
In the supernatural realms, there are creatures who belong to winter. I am not one of them. But like the coyote I can become at will, I am adaptable.

My name is Mercy Thompson Hauptman, and my mate, Adam, is the werewolf who leads the Columbia Basin Pack, the pack charged with keeping the people who live and work in the Tri-Cities of Washington State safe. It’s a hard job, and it doesn’t leave much room for side quests. Which is why when I needed to travel to Montana to help my brother, I intended to go by myself.

But I’m not alone anymore.

Together, Adam and I find ourselves trapped with strangers in a lodge in the heart of the wilderness, in the teeth of a storm of legendary power, only to discover my brother’s issues are a tiny part of a problem much bigger than we could have imagined. Arcane and ancient magics are at work that could, unless we are very careful, bring about the end of the world.

Review:

Winter Lost by Patricia Briggs is the 14th book in her wonderful Mercy Thompson series. I am a big fan of this series, and its heroine, Mercy Thompson.  It is always fun to spend time with Mercy and Adam, and their pack. Refresher:  Mercy has always been independent, and she continues to surprise many as she always manages to find a way to outsmart her enemies, who constantly underestimate her.  Mercy is strong, savvy, smart and a coyote shifter, but it is her love for Adam that makes her very loyal to the pack also; she will do anything to protect those she loves.

Winter Lost picks up not too far when the last book ended, with Mercy still feeling the effects of what the Soul Taker did to her. She still hides some of the symptoms left over, but those close to her still try to find a way to heal her. When her brother Gary shows up, they discover he has been cursed. The local frost giant Ymir is called in to find out why Gary was cursed, but he tells them his other brother, Hrimnir created the curse. Mercy and Adam embark on a journey to Montana to find the person behind the curse, to help her brother.

When they meet Hrimnir, he explains that Gary had stolen an important artifact; in retaliation, he has brought a major blizzard to the hotel, where a wedding will take place.  No one can leave the resort until the artifact is returned, or all will die.  Mercy and Adam go to stay at the hotel and try to find the artifact; while there they meet a host of supernatural beings, such as fae, vampires, wolves, etc. We also learn about the myths and traditions, such as the wedding, as well as end of the world threats.  I did like some new characters, such as Liam (Fae), and Grandmother Spider, who was a great addition, with her magical abilities.

What follows is an exciting, non-stop, tense, action packed adventure that captivated me from start to finish.   Winter Lost was a tense, exciting, wild, pulse pounding climax. To tell too much more would be spoilers, which would ruin the story.

Winter Lost was a page turner, and so very well written by Briggs, with so much action throughout. I loved every moment of it.  I love Adam and Mercy together, as they have a wonderful bond.  This is a fabulous series.  If you have not read the Mercy Thompson series, and love paranormal, shifters, wolves; it is time to start reading this series.

Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
The vampire Wulfe is missing. Since he’s deadly, possibly insane, and his current idea of “fun” is stalking me, some may see it as no great loss. But, warned that his disappearance might bring down the carefully constructed alliances that keep our pack safe, my mate and I must find Wulfe—and hope he’s still alive. As alive as a vampire can be, anyway.

But Wulfe isn’t the only one who has disappeared. And now there are bodies, too. Has the Harvester returned to the Tri-Cities, reaping souls with his cursed sickle? Or is he just a character from a B horror movie and our enemy is someone else?

The farther I follow Wulfe’s trail, the more twisted—and darker—the path becomes. I need to figure out what’s going on before the next body on the ground is mine.

Review:

Soul Taken by Patricia Briggs is the 13th book in her wonderful Mercy Thompson series. I am a big fan of this series, and its heroine, Mercy Thompson.  It is always fun to spend time with Mercy and Adam, and their pack. Refresher:  Mercy Thompson has always been independent (aside from her love with Adam), and she continues to surprise many as she always manages to find a way to outsmart her enemies, who constantly underestimates her.  Mercy is strong, savvy, smart and a coyote shifter, but it is her love for Adam that makes her very loyal to the pack also; she will do anything to protect those she loves.  She also has some powerful abilities she inherited from her father Coyote.

Mercy and Adam investigate the local vampire seeth, as she is told to find Wulfe, who is missing.  When they search the area, all the vampires are missing (including Stefan), as are some white witches, and various bodies are discovered. Has the Harvester targeted Tri-Cities, or is someone else behind this.

They discover that a Soul Taker is on the loose, killing and stealing souls. Mercy sees a young boy, who was killed, now a ghost; he follows her and she knows she has to stop this murderer, allowing the boy to move on.  During her dreams, Mercy sees Wulfe and the soul taker, and knows they are coming for her, and together with Adam, they will need to be one step ahead to survive.

It was nice to learn more about Sherwood, as his memory slowly returns, revealing more of who he is. We also know more about Warren, Tad, and get a revisit from Tilly; as well as Mercy talking to Samuel for information on Sherwood.  Zee played a big part in this book, always there to try and help Mercy.

What follows is an exciting, non-stop, tense, action packed adventure that captivated me from start to finish.   Soul Taken was a tense, wild pulse pounding climax, that had me holding my breath as Mercy had to handle each and every threat along the way.  Mercy and Adam made a great team, fighting not only an evil vampire, but also the soul taker. Mercy continues to grow and show her magic powers in subtle ways.   To tell too much more would be spoilers, which would ruin the story.  I will say the last third of the book was crazy, wild as we raced to the climatic finish, which had me holding my breath, as there were numerous twists and turns.

Soul Taken was a page turner, and was written so well by Briggs, and had so much going on throughout the entire book.  Patricia Briggs has not only given us a wonderful couple in Mercy and Adam, but also a great secondary cast of characters. I loved every moment of it.  I love Adam and Mercy together.  This is a fabulous series.  If you have not read the Mercy Thompson series, and love paranormal, shifters, wolves; it is time to start reading this series.

Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs – a Review

Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
In the wilds of the Northern California mountains, all the inhabitants of a small town have gone missing. It’s as if the people picked up and left everything they owned behind. Fearing something supernatural might be going on, the FBI taps a source they’ve consulted in the past: the werewolves Charles Cornick and Anna Latham. But Charles and Anna soon find a deserted town is the least of the mysteries they face.

Death sings in the forest, and when it calls, Charles and Anna must answer. Something has awakened in the heart of the California mountains, something old and dangerous — and it has met werewolves before.

Review:

Wild Sign by Patricia Briggs is the 6th book in her Alpha & Omega series. The Alpha & Omega series is another fascinating werewolf storyline that takes place in the world of Mercy Thompson. Only this series revolves around Charles Cornick, who is the enforcer for Bran (his Alpha father), and his wife Anna, who is an Omega wolf. I love this series and our heroes, Charles and Anna; the chemistry between these two is electric and the way they balance one another out is amazing.

Two FBI agents visit Charles and Anna’s home to request help on a land owned by the pack; as they explain something strange is going on there; the entire town of Wild Sign, is missing. Bran tells Charles to take Anna and another pack member, Tag to investigate what is happening.  Turns out that the land is actually owned by Leah, which we will learn more about when she was last there, and rescued by Bran.

When Charles, Anna and Tag arrive they can tell something very bad happened, and each of them can feel evil spirits and supernatural at work.  Was this the work of evil black witches?  They do find letters, as well as means of magic. This will lead to finding the woman who wrote those letters, and to a convalescent home, where Charles recognizes an old nemesis, who is currently under the control of witches that run the home.  They discover more information, during his lucid time, and Anna learns from Charles and Tag how evil this man was or is.

Charles becomes concerned, as does his wolf, when Anna begins to come under control of something evil when listening to a song, that pushes her to the past. Leah, plays a bigger part, especially the last half of the book, as her own past brings her back to Wild Sign. We do learn more about what happened years ago, when Bran brought her into the pack. Leah was never likable in this series, but she steps up in this horrific situation.

What follows is an intense, scary, exciting adventure, where multiple times Anna will find herself very much under the infuuence of this evil.  Charles and his wolf will do all they can to protect Anna, as well as Leah nearer to the end.  To tell too much more would be spoilers, which would ruin the story.  I will say the last third of the book was crazy, wild as we raced to the climatic finish, which had me holding my breath, as there were numerous twists and turns; not to mention this monstrous creature was stronger than them combined, and over the years was immortal.  Can they kill the evil being?

Wild Sign was a great story, very intense and so well written by Patricia Briggs.  What I love about our heroes, is their love for each other; as Anna, as an Omega, is not only smart, strong, she also keeps Charles sane.  I also love Brother Wolf talking to Charles, as well as Anna; they made a great couple (threesome with Charles’s wolf). Wild Sign was an exciting, pulse pounding, fast paced, captivating story.

Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs – Review & Giveaway

Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs – Review & Giveaway

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository / Google Play / Apple

Description:
I am Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman.
My only “superpowers” are that I turn into a thirty-five pound coyote and fix Volkswagens. But I have friends in odd places and a pack of werewolves at my back. It looks like I’m going to need them.

Centuries ago, the fae dwelt in Underhill–until she locked her doors against them. They left behind their great castles and troves of magical artifacts. They abandoned their prisoners and their pets. Without the fae to mind them, those creatures who remained behind roamed freely through Underhill wreaking havoc. Only the deadliest survived.

Now one of those prisoners has escaped. It can look like anyone, any creature it chooses. But if it bites you, it controls you. It lives for chaos and destruction. It can make you do anything–even kill the person you love the most. Now it is here, in the Tri-Cities. In my territory.

It won’t, can’t, remain.

Not if I have anything to say about it.

Review:

Smoke Bitten by Patricia Briggs is the 12th book in her wonderful Mercy Thompson series. I am a big fan of this series, and its heroine, Mercy Thompson.  It is always fun to spend time with Mercy and Adam, and their pack.  Smoke Bitten was a great addition to this series, and in this story, there were some problems with their mating bond, which we learn later was related to the previous book.

Mercy Thompson has always been independent (aside from her love with Adam), and she continues to surprise many as she always manages to find a way to outsmart her enemies, who constantly underestimates her.  Mercy is strong, savvy, smart and a coyote shifter, but it is her love for Adam that makes her very loyal to the pack also; she will do anything to protect those she loves.  She also has some powerful abilities she inherited from her father Coyote.

Mercy senses their mating bond has slowly shut down, and despite her worry, she trusts her mate (Adam) and is willing to be patient, as she tries to find out what is wrong.  Though this is a backdrop of the overall story, it was an excellent addition to the story, as well as surprising. Of course, when it all ends, it will be Mercy who will find a way to bring Adam fully back.

Smoke Bitten begins when Tilly (fae) opens a door from Underhill next to Mercy and Adam’s house, to be able to visit Aiden, but it also allows an unseen entity to also escape, and bring havoc to humans and werewolves.  This creature can take over a body by being bitten by ‘smoke’ and at the same time kill anyone nearby, putting everyone’s lives in danger.

While this is going on, a group of rogue werewolves are trying to take over Adam’s pack, which escalates the danger; and will force Mercy to contact Bran for advice.  Always nice to see Bran again.  With all the different problems (rogue Werewolves, Monster entity, weakening bond between her and Adam), Mercy has her hands full, but never ever underestimate our fantastic heroine.

What follows is an exciting, non-stop, tense, action packed adventure that captivated me from start to finish.   Smoke Bitten was a tense, wild pulse pounding climax, that had me holding my breath as Mercy had to handle each and every threat along the way.  Patricia Briggs has not only given us a wonderful couple in Mercy and Adam, but also a great secondary cast of characters.

Smoke Bitten was written so well by Briggs, and had so much going on throughout the entire book.  I loved every moment of it.  I love Adam and Mercy together.  This is a fabulous series.  If you have not read the Mercy Thompson series, and love paranormal, shifters, wolves; it is time to start reading this series.

Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs – Review & Giveaway

Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs – Review & Giveaway

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / iTunes / Google Play / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
My name is Mercedes Athena Thompson Hauptman, and I am a car mechanic.

And a coyote shapeshifter . . . And the mate of the Alpha of the Columbia Basin werewolf pack.

Even so, none of that would have gotten me into trouble if, a few months ago, I hadn’t stood upon a bridge and taken responsibility for the safety of the citizens who lived in our territory. It seemed like the thing to do at the time. It should have only involved hunting down killer goblins, zombie goats, and an occasional troll. Instead, our home was viewed as neutral ground, a place where humans would feel safe to come and treat with the fae.

The reality is that nothing and no one is safe. As generals and politicians face off with the Gray Lords of the fae, a storm is coming and her name is Death.

But we are pack, and we have given our word. We will die to keep it.

Review:

Storm Cursed by Patricia Briggs is the 11th book in her wonderful Mercy Thompson series. It is always a pleasure to spend time with our wonderful heroine, Mercy Thompson and her husband and leader of the werewolf pack, Adam Hauptman.

In Storm Cursed, with Adam busy working on security to bring the government and Fae (Gray Lords) together in a peace pact, Mercy is immediately called to help with minintaure zombie goats.  With the help of Mary Jane ( I liked her better in this book), they manage to corral and kill the zombies; but this is just the beginning.   Adam, Mercy and the pack will find that their witch friend, Elizaveta’s family have all been killed in a gruesome massacre, which they know has been done by a sinister group of black witches. Elizaveta is out of town, but Adam and Mercy discover evidence that Elizaveta and her family were practicing black magic, unbeknownst to them, which is considered by the pack as unallowed in their community.  Mercy knowing the zombie goats, goblin and other zombies showing up are the work of this evil group determined to take over Elizaveta’s territory, as well as destroy the ongoing meetings with the peace pact.

We learned more about Sherwood’s past, and it was really fascinating that Mercy can look at the memories of a kitten they saved, to see the evil in the witches.   Very well done.

What follows is an exciting wild adventure that will have Mercy desperately asking from help from her powerful non wolf friends to help her find away to stop the witches, whom seem unsurmountable.  She will bring in Zee, Tad, Wulfe in an amazing non stop action that held us totally enthralled, especially as we wonder who will survive.   The problem are not only the many zombies, but also the powerful witches who can enthrall anyone, including humans, goblins, dragons and wolves to do their bidding.  Mercy will also learn to rise up and use powers that she is not experienced with, but with Adam and friends lives in danger, she has no choice, even if it means her own life.  Who does she trust?  Is Elizaveta a friend or foe?

Storm Cursed had an action throughout the book, with a lot of wild stuff; especially as we near the end, when we see much more of what she can do.  It was a wild pulse pounding tense finish, and I loved every moment of it.  Most of all, I love Adam and Mercy together.   This is a great series, great heroine, great couple and always wonderfully written by Patricia Briggs.  If you have not read the Mercy Thompson series, and love paranormal, shifters, wolves; it is time to start reading this series.

Description:
They are the wild and the broken. The werewolves too damaged to live safely among their own kind. For their own good, they have been exiled to the outskirts of Aspen Creek, Montana. Close enough to the Marrok’s pack to have its support; far enough away to not cause any harm.

With their Alpha out of the country, Charles and Anna are on call when an SOS comes in from the fae mate of one such wildling. Heading into the mountainous wilderness, they interrupt the abduction of the wolf–but can’t stop blood from being shed. Now Charles and Anna must use their skills–his as enforcer, hers as peacemaker–to track down the attackers, reopening a painful chapter in the past that springs from the darkest magic of the witchborn…

Review:

Burn Bright by Patricia Briggs is the 5th book in her Alpha & Omega series.  The Alpha & Omega series is another fascinating werewolf storyline that takes place in the world of Mercy Thompson. Only this series revolves around Charles Cornick, who is the enforcer for his Alpha father ( Bran), and his wife Anna, who is an Omega wolf.

This story begins shortly after the last Mercy Thompson story ended, and Bran (The Marrok), is away on a secret trip.  In his absence, Charles is in on call for problems, and when he receives a call for help from a fae mate to a wilding wolf; he and Anna take the 20 minute ride to the mountains.  The wildings are somewhat broken, damaged and unstable wolves, who live separately from the pack in the wilderness.

When Charles and Anna arrive at their destination, only the fae mate can explain what has happened.  His wolf mate has been kidnapped, and is being held in a cage; due a promise made to his mate, the fae cannot go help his mate, as has no control over his dangerous powers, if he sees her being harmed.    Charles and Anna will find Hester (the mate) and help her escape, and in so doing, will kill those who threatened her. But before they can get her back home, another group attacks, unfortunately Hester is killed, as well as the attackers.  When they come back to the house, the fae mate has killed himself, and has left a clue that there is a traitor among Bran’s pack.

When Charles, Anna, Leah (Bran’s mate) and the rest of the pack devise a plan to send three teams to visit all the wildings, to warn them and try to find the traitor.  What follows is an intense exciting adventure, where multiple times Anna will find herself very much in danger.  Being an Omega wolf  brings her right in the middle of the unstable wolves.   The first wolf, felt the draw of an Omega (they can calm them and bring peace), and takes Anna into his mind to try to fight off a curse set by a witch.  It takes Charles help to allow Anna to break the curse and save herself. In the midst of all of this action, Charles comes to realize why Bran is away, technically in hiding, and is determined to prove his theory with Anna’s help.  But most importantly, they must stop the traitor before more wildings are killed.  This is monstrous task, as the evil villain is much stronger than any of them realize.

I love Charles and Anna together; the chemistry between these two is electric and the way they balance one another out is amazing, especially in his role as enforcer.

I love Brother Wolf’s talking to Charles, and his love of Anna.  Asil and Wellesy were very good, and surprisingly so was Leah, whom most of us do not like. We also get to learn more information our Mercy’s early years as a member of Bran’s pack, as well as learning more about Anna’s powers and Charles’s witchborn powers.

As we race to a wild climatic finish, we find ourselves holding our breaths as there are some surprises that shock us as to who the traitor is, and how powerful and evil the villain is

But most of all, it is the love of Anna that keeps Charles sane,  and her ability as an Omega to be able to calm wolves.   They make such a great couple, working together to solve any crimes within the pack range, not to mention their chemistry is very hot.  Burn Bright was an exciting, pulse pounding, fast paced, captivating read, with some surprising revelations and a wonderful couple.

Ancient powers stir, and Mercy must be her agile best to avoid causing a war between vampires and werewolves, and between werewolves and werewolves. And in the heart of the ancient city of Prague, old ghosts rise…

Review:

Silence Fallen by Patricia Briggs is the 10th book in her wonderful Mercy Thompson series.  Mercy has evolved quite a lot over the last 9 books, and in Silence Fallen we get to see more of the powers she has within her.   Patricia Briggs once again gives us an exciting story with one of our favorite couples, Mercy and Adam.

When the story begins, the werewolf pack is having fun eating and playing games.  Mercy decides to make a meal for the gang, and has to run out to buy eggs. As she gets ready to head home, someone smashes her car and renders her unconscious.  When Mercy awakes, she discovers she has been kidnapped and cannot feel her bond to Adam, disabling any possibility of contact to him.  A powerful European vampire is behind the kidnapping and Mercy is on her own to find a way to escape.

Adam enlists the aid of Stefan and Marsilia (vampires), as well as the witch, Elizaveta to help him find Mercy.  What follows is an exciting adventure that will have Mercy escaping in a set up to kill her, but she of course, manages to get away alive.  Being alone, with no one to trust, she finds herself Prague, looking for help from both dangerous wolves and vampires .  Who can Mercy trust?

Adam and his group arrive in Italy to meet the vampire who kidnapped Mercy.  Adam was able to have a slight contact to Mercy finding out she has escaped, but it was minimal.  His goal is to find out why the vampire kidnapped Mercy and to make sure the vampires out searching for her do not kill her.  Adam must learn to control his wolf, and try to negotiate with the vampire; while his pack at home use all means to discover where Mercy is.

It was an interesting story, which was really in two different POV’s, Adam and Mercy.  The brunt of the story had them separate for most of the book.  Mercy will find herself kidnapped again by another powerful but crazy vampire, and in order to save herself from sure death, she must find a way to use her ghost magnet ability to get them to help her.    Interesting and wild stuff; especially as we near the end, when we see much more of what she can do.  It was a wild pulse pounding tense finish, and I loved every moment of it.  Most of all, I loved the ending with Adam and Mercy together.   I would like to go back and reread this again, since so much happens along the way.  This is a great series, great heroine, great couple and always wonderfully written by Briggs.  If you have not read the Mercy Thompson series, and love paranormal, shifters, wolves; it is time to start reading this series.

And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.

Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?

Review:

Fire Touched by Patricia Briggs is the 9th book in her Mercy Thompson series. I have been a fan of this series for a long time, and Mercy Thompson continues to be one of the best kick-ass heroines. In Firetouched, Mercy, Adam and their pack are called upon to stop a troll from destroying everything in town. Where did this troll come from is a big question, which can only mean the Fae are up to their old tricks. Just when you think Mercy and Adam won’t survive this attack, her magic stick and her old friend, Zee come to the rescue. Zee is an old fae, who has not been part of the Fae council for a long time, but he remains Mercy’s friend. He brings with a young human boy, Aiden, who was stolen by the fae years before, and has escaped. The battle with the troll was wild and crazy, with many of the pack injured. But with help from Aiden, Zee, they will win this battle, with more to come.

Aiden, is fire touched and he is the main reason the Fae are willing to start a war. They want Aiden, to help them get back into good graces with Underhill, a fae territory that is closed to the fae. Aiden has run away from his life in Underhill and Mercy, Adam take him into their pack to protect him.

Some of Adam’s pack still resent Mercy, who they feel is not one of them. Mercy is a coyote shifter, not a werewolf. But she can stand up to them or anyone, as Mercy Thompson bends for no one. But she wants peace in the pack, since she loves Adam, and doesn’t want him to have dissention in his pack. It will be Adam, who will demand his pack to accept his mate or leave. It was nice to finally begin to see the dissenters changing their tune, and slowly accepting Mercy.

What follows is an exciting adventure, where the pack must face further attacks, forcing Mercy, Adam, Zee to meet the Fae Gray Council to make a deal. To save themselves and Aiden, they have to make a deal; bargaining with the fae is dangerous, and not always to be trusted. The last half of the book was very exciting, with their lives very much in danger. Will they win the war with the Fae? Can they find a bargaining tool to save Aiden? Will Mercy and Adam survive their trip to Underhill?

Not only is this series always fun, exciting & action packed, but the romance between Mercy and Adam is always beautiful to watch. They are a great couple. Bravo to Patricia Briggs, who continues to give us great adventures, as well as the continued growth of Mercy. I cannot wait for more.
