ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August 22, 2024

Jasper Devereaux: The Reapers’ golden boy, my ex-boyfriend, and the first man to truly break my heart.
Oh, and now he’s my fake boyfriend.

He insists a fake relationship is the best solution to our problems. My persistent ex will back off, and his mom will stop trying to set him up on blind dates.

The rules are straightforward: act like we’re in love in public only, don’t let the lines blur, and whatever we do, don’t fall for each other. Again. Every touch feels too real, every kiss reminds me of what we once had, and sticking to our rules becomes nearly impossible.

Our little charade is the hottest gossip in Avalon Falls, but as the sparks between us reignite, a chilling string of m*rders rocks our town, adding danger to the mix.

Pretending to date Jasper was supposed to be a temporary fix. But as the danger closes in, I realize my heart—and maybe even my life—might be on the line.

REVIEW:BROKEN PACT is the first instalment in Penelope Black’s contemporary, adult AVALON FALLS erotic, romance series, a spin off, set in the author’s ROSEWOOD series. This is Rosewood Reapers’ MC member Jasper ‘Jagger’ Devereaux, and twenty-eight year old, bakery owner Coraline Carter’s story line.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Jasper and Coraline) BROKEN PACT follows the second chance relationship between our story line couple. Years earlier, Jasper Devereaux unknowingly broke Coraline Carter’s heart, pushing away the woman with whom he would fall in love. Fast forward to present day, Coraline’s new business is threatened, her ex wants her back, and Jasper is determined to claim Coraline as his own. Offering a fake relationship, Jasper becomes Coraline’s guardian and protector but someone else is waiting on the sidelines determined to destroy our story line heroine. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Coraline and Jasper, and the potential fall-out as the past refused to let go, threatening the safety of the woman Jasper’s loves.

The world building follows several paths including Coraline’s tempestuous relationship with her family, and the rekindling romance with our story line hero. Meanwhile, Jasper is focusing on protecting the woman he loves but his own father’s past is determined to take charge. There is a possible serial killer in Avalon Falls, and there may be a connection to our story line couple.

The relationship between Jasper and Coraline is second chance romance. Coraline saw what she wanted to see, pushing Jasper out of her life. Determined to claim Coraline as his own, Jasper is taking precautions when Coraline’s past refuses to let go. The $ex scenes are passionate and provocative but I struggle with the use of a certain four-letter word.

We are introduced to Coraline’s extended family including her brothers Beau and Graham, their parents Hazel and Lucas Turner, as well as Jasper’s best friend Hawke, the local ‘Golden Girls’, and Coraline’s ex Grant. The requisite evil has many faces.

BROKEN PACT is a story of obsession and madness, betrayal and determination, family and friendships, relationships and love. The character driven premise is twisted and engaging ; the characters are animated and stubborn; the romance is fated and spicy.

I want to add, I am not sure if this is an MC series, or a series with an MC side story as the next instalment focuses on Coraline’s sibling.

As the firstborn King, I should be the heir of the Irish Syndicate.
Instead, my father wants to marry me off to the highest bidder to fund a war I don’t believe in.

My carefully controlled life starts to unravel, spiralling out of control faster than I can stop it.

And then I meet them and everything stops for a moment.
Tall with perpetual smirks and covered in tattoos, they remind me what it feels like to live.

They remind me that I don’t need someone to save me.
I’m a King. I can save myself.

REVIEW: THE WREN is the first instalment in Penelope Black’s contemporary, adult KING SISTERS / LAS VEGAS dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is the introductory story line focusing Irish Syndicate princess Maeve ‘The Wren’ King. THE WREN and The King Sisters is a spin off from, and interconnected to the author’s THE BROTHERHOOD series. Several characters cross-over for cohesion and familiarity.

Told from several first person perspectives including Maeve King, and Italian Mafia brothers Romeo, Tommy and Nico Santorino, THE WREN follows several paths, focusing on Maeve King, Irish Syndicate princess, as she is sold to the highest bidder, a sale procured by her father in an effort to regain power and control. Refusing to go along with her father’s plans for an arranged marriage, Maeve sets a plan into motion to gain her freedom, and the freedom of her four younger sisters but Maeve’s life continues to spiral when a new buyer sets his sights on our story line heroine, a buyer who refuses to give up the ultimate prize.

Maeve King aka The Wren is a force unto herself. Unlike most ‘mob princesses’ Maeve and her sisters work outside of the box, in an effort to take down those they deem the lowest of the low but Maeve is about to face the ultimate battle when marriage to the mob reveals a familiar face, and not necessarily the face she thought she would see.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Maeve’s sisters Kiera, Ava, Rosie and Fiona, and their father ‘The Hammer’ ; Romeo, Nico and Tommy Santorino, and their parents Vito and Sloane, as well as old school mobster Milo Milano.

THE WREN is a detailed story line focusing on family and loyalty, betrayal and determination , power, control, and retribution. The fast paced premise is intriguing and inviting; the characters are energetic and dynamic; the romance has barely scratched the surface of relationships or love. THE WREN ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned.

REVIEW:WHEN IT ENDS by Penelope Black is a contemporary, adult, apocalyptic, reverse harem, romance story line focusing on Amelia, Cole, West and Gray.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from four first person perspectives (Amelia, Cole, West and Gray) WHEN IT ENDS follows twenty-two year old Amelia Christensen in the days prior to the literal end of the world. A one-night stand in Vegas with a man she knows only as Sonny, Amelia returns to her grandmothers home, where she will embark on a journey with her past. Enter Cole Armstrong and West Campbell the two boys Amelia had fallen in love with years before, two boys lost in the foster care system, never to be heard from again but an environmental disaster is about to ravage the world, and along with another foster brother Gray aka Sonny, our foursome head for places unknown in the wake of an apocalyptic meltdown. Amelia’s father works for the government, and has offered a place of sanctuary but our heroine refuses to leave behind the men with whom she is falling in love. What ensues is the quick rebuilding relationship between Amelia and Cole, West and Gray, and the potential fall-out as the end of the world beckons.

The relationship between Amelia and Cole, West and Gray is a reverse harem relationship. Amelia spent one night with Gray aka Sonny, never thinking she would see him again, but our heroine had fallen in love with Cole and West close to ten years earlier.Jealousy blinded the foster brothers when it came to our heroine’s affections but Amelia was willing to share her ‘love’ with the men that had stolen her heart. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

WHEN IT ENDS follows the foursome as they must over come the ensuing chaos and panic of a world about to implode. People are panicking, lives are lost, and only the chosen few will survive. The premise is intriguing and engaging; the romance is erotic and spicy; the characters are energetic and charismatic. The entire story line, excluding the epilogue, covers but a few days in the life, and glosses over the true hardships and fall-out of a world gone mad-as the world begins to devour itself, we are no longer witness to the atrocities but skip ahead several months as the foursome hunker down somewhere safe and sound. This is a RH romance story not a story about survival thusly we are not up close and personal with the true nature of endurance and their journey to persevere. WHEN IT ENDS ends on a happily ever after-for now-there is still more story to tell.
