REVIEW:POWER PLAY is the first instalment in Amelia Wilde’s contemporary, adult, dark, romance series focusing on businessman Gabriel Hill, and twenty year old bakery owner Elise Bettencourt. POWER PLAY is a spin off from , and set in the author’s WEALTH Trilogy. POWER PLAY can be read as a stand alone but for backstory and history, I recommend reading the WEALTH trilogy. Gabriel Hill is the older brother of Mason Hill (Wealth).

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Gabriel and Elise) POWER PLAY focuses on Gabriel Hill’s hunger for revenge. Approximately fourteen years earlier Gabriel, along with his siblings Mason, Jameson and Remy lost everything the night their parents were murdered in a house fire, and Gabriel is determined to seek revenge against the people he believes responsible for their deaths. A group of elite and questionable businessman, known as the Consortium, a group in which his father was a member, is Gabriel’s target but Gabriel needs an ‘in’ and using Elise Bettencourt, the daughter of the man in charge, is his first step in destroying them all. Gabriel Hill despises Elise Bettencourt for her family connections but Gabriel has no idea as to the extent of Elise’s knowledge about what happened or why. What ensues is the tempestuous and emotional relationship between Elise and Gabriel, and the fall-out as heart break and denial force Elise to take a stand against everyone involved.

Gabriel Hill raised his younger siblings in the wake of the murder of their mother and father, a murder that left the family struggling to survive but Gabriel has been planning his revenge for close to fifteen years, and in this, Gabriel’s only focus is retribution and reprisal, at any cost. Using Elise Bettencourt meant opening the window to his past, a past that is dark and not meant for public consumption. Elise Bettencourt walked away from everything at eighteen years old but beneath the pretty façade of a wealthy and happy family, Elise knew the truth including the ugliness of what was and what will never be. Working with Gabriel Hill to take down her father means getting revenge for herself, as well.

The relationship between Gabriel and Elise is turbulent and combative. Gabriel doesn’t care who he hurts in his need for revenge, and Elise is a pawn to get what he wants. Falling for Elise was never his intention; telling her about his past meant revealing a truth that was distressing and hard; pushing Elise further adds to his pain and need for revenge. Elise Bettencourt found herself falling for a man whose needs she would never be able to control but opening her heart meant opening to a man who was about to destroy her in the process. The $ex scenes are intimate and aggressive.

We are introduced to Elise’s sisters Catherine and Lydia, and their parents; Gabriel’s siblings Mason and his wife Charlotte (WEALTH), Jameson, and Remy; Jacob Chambers, as well as several members of The Consortium.

POWER PLAY is a story of betrayal, power and control, secrets and lies, murder and vengeance, heart break and passion. The premise is captivating and enthralling; the characters are broken, determined and charismatic; the romance is cruel, intense and contentious. POWER PLAY ends on a cliff hanger-you have been warned. Gabriel and Elise’s story continues in BAD INFLUENCE.

REVIEW: POWER TERM is the fifth and final? Instalment in Kennedy L Mitchell’s contemporary, adult POWER PLAY romantic suspense series focusing on attorney/ now US president Randi Sawyer, and Secret Service agent Trey Benson. POWER TERM should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book four POWER SURGE.

NOTE: If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be some spoilers in my review.

WARNING: Due to the graphic nature of the story line premise, there may be some triggers for more sensitive readers.

SOME BACKGROUND: A few years earlier Randi Sawyer became the vice-presidential running mate to Kyle Birmingham, a man whose dirty politics run deadly and deep but in doing so Randi has angered a very powerful man who is determined to destroy our story line heroine. Now in the position as the US President, Randi continues to find herself the target of some very powerful people.

Now in the hands of a sadistic assassin, Randi finds herself facing a familiar foe, a man who is desperate enough to destroy everyone Randi loves. As her lover and secret service agent Trey Benson begins a desperate search for the woman he loves, a call to the people in charge bring in some additional gunfire in an effort to uncover the whereabouts of Madam President.

Not everyone is happy that Randi ran for political office, and now that she sits in the highest political office in the US, Randi’s enemies continue to attack, this time success in reaching their target.

REVIEW: POWER SURGE is the fourth instalment in Kennedy L Mitchell’s contemporary, adult POWER PLAY romantic, political suspense series focusing on attorney/ now US president Randi Sawyer, and Secret Service agent Trey Benson. POWER SURGE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of book three POWER SWITCH.

NOTE: If you have not read the previous instalments, there may be some spoilers in my review.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Randi and Trey) POWER SURGE picks up immediately after the events of book three wherein the abduction of the president’s daughter has left Trey Benson struggling with a direction in life. No longer on the president’s protection team, Trey battles between head and heart until Randi takes a stand demanding Trey and Tank return to her side. As Randi struggles to navigate the office of the US president, a potential war looms on the horizon, a war that could potentially spell doom for the USA. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Trey and Randi, as Trey’s need to protect Randi is jeopardized by our heroine’s need to ‘go it alone’, a need that places Randi in constant danger from both outside and inside her protective circle.

POWER SURGE is a story of betrayal and vengeance, secrets and lies, power and control. The premise is intriguing and captivating; the characters are energetic and colorful; the romance struggles in the face of duty, perception and vulnerability. As per my previous reviews, I have to question the number attempts on our heroine’s life, attempts that reflect badly on her security and the man that she loves, as well as our heroine’s refusal to take the advise of her protection team.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 20, 2020.

Lies. Deceit. Espionage. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg here in DC.

My boyfriend is fake engaged, I’m pretty sure someone out there is trying to kill me, and now a sexy-as-sin attorney from the Justice Department is investigating me and I have zero clue as to why. Torn between duty and love, I’m not just floundering in my role as VP, I’m drowning.

When the pieces of the president’s plan come to light, I know I have to stop him. Permanently this time. How I’ll get out of this alive, I have no idea, but at least I still have my favorite secret service agent, Trey Benson, by my side—for now.

I’ll do whatever it takes to remove Kyle from office, even if it means sacrificing everything I love. Again.

Power Switch is the third book in the five-book Power Play series and is a continuation of Randi and Trey’s epic love story. The books in this series cannot be read as standalones. All five books follow one main couple’s relationship as it grows through a five-year time period. It’s suspenseful, steamy, and oh so unputdownable. If you’re a fan of Tiffany Snow, Meghan March, and Skye Warren, then this series is for YOU!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date: January 20, 2020

There’s no turning back. I can’t go home a failure–again. Everyone wants to use me, make me their pawn, but I have other plans. I will win this election or die trying.

Randi Sawyer
It started with a shady business proposal I should’ve turned down. Now here I am pretending to be someone I’m not, and bonus, I’m at the mercy of a man whose joy comes from my failures. The deeper I sink into DC’s seedy political scene the more I realize I can’t trust anyone if I’m going to make it out alive. Until him. Secret Service agent Trey Benson is bitter, jaded, and oh so hot with his mischievous smirk and cocky attitude. He hates me, just like everyone else, but he might just be who I need to survive this mess I’ve landed myself in.

Trey Benson
Forced onto her protection detail, I’m certain she’s just another Political Barbie in this city. I should know–I’ve dated most of them. Except she’s not. Funny, foulmouthed and crazy as hell, not to mention drop-dead gorgeous, Randi Sawyer just might be the one person who can make a difference in DC–and in me. Too bad the boss says she’s off-limits, that it’s too risky for her career and mine. Good thing I’ve never been great at sticking to orders.

Power Play is the first book in the five-book Power Play series. Each book cannot be read as a standalone. All five books follow one main couple’s relationship as it grows through a five-year time period.

REVIEW: POWER PLAY is the first instalment in Kennedy Mitchell’s contemporary, adult POWER PLAY erotic, political romance series focusing on attorney / small town Mayor Randi Sawyer, and thirty-eight year old, Secret Service agent Trey Benson.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Trey and Randi) POWER PLAY sets the stage for the author’s five-part Power Play series. Randi Sawyer was born on the wrong side of the tracks to a mother whose addictions are destroying their lives. As a single mother of a teen-aged girl, Randi struggles to make ends meet until the day presidential hopeful, and the bane of Randi’s existence Kyle Birmingham makes Randi an offer she cannot refuse but an offer that comes with caveats. Seeing an opportunity, Randi makes a counter offer whereby our heroine will become the vice-presidential running mate to a man she disrespects and despises more than anyone could imagine. But..the counter-offer pushes aside another very powerful man, a man who is determined to destroy Randi’s life. With the run for office in full swing, Randi is assigned security, security that doesn’t want anything to do with our story line heroine. Enter former US soldier and Secret Service Agent Trey Benson, and the man with whom Randi will fall in love. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Randi and Trey, as Randi battles the odds and Kyle Birmingham, on the way to the Oval Office.

Trey Benson has loved and lost. As a member of one Washington’s political elite families, Kyle refuses to follow in the family footsteps thereby relegating himself as the black sheep and outsider. Having seen his share of stuck up, snotty Washington posers, Kyle immediately paints Randi Sawyer with the same brush he paints most of the wanna-bes in political life but no one knows the real Randi, and Kyle is about to get a lesson in judgement he will never forget. Randi Sawyer is desperate to make good on a promise to her daughter, a promise that now comes with the possibility of hiding the truth about family and relationships. Once Randi accepts Kyle Birmingham’s offer, she finds herself tied to a man who holds all of the power, power that could very well destroy our heroine’s life.

The relationship between Trey and Randi begins acrimoniously as Trey struggles with everything Randi represents. Believing our heroine to be a cold-hearted women with aspirations of grandeur, Trey struggles with his attraction to Randi, an attraction that will find our couple battling between head and heart as the campaign begins to take an ominous turn. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including Presidential hopeful Kyle Birmingham, and former running mate Shawn Whit; Randi’ daughter Taeler, and her father Ben; Randi’ mother; and Secret Service agents Tank and Gremlin.

POWER PLAY is a story of power and control; betrayal and vengeance; friendship, relationships and love. The character driven premise is intriguing, and fast paced; the characters are intelligent, wounded, powerful and animated; the romance is seductive and sensitive. POWER PLAY is story that makes your think about the what-ifs, and the current political situation playing out on the world stage. I will add that the use of a certain four-letter word, although not applied in the context of romance, is a bit of an issue for this particular reader.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 16, 2016

Beneath her innocent facade, Gabriella Bertucci has her reasons to be standoffish with guys. Especially guys like Landon Taylor, a star defenseman on the minor-league Detroit Pilots and the object of a serious crush since he first walked into her family’s market. But when Landon comes through for her in a moment of crisis, Gaby starts to wonder if there might be more to Landon than hard muscles and fast skates.

Landon isn’t afraid of telling Gaby that he’s got it for her bad. The problem is, she seems unwilling to believe it. And though Landon enjoys his reputation as a cool-headed athlete, he hates losing—both on the rink and off. It’s his competitiveness that makes him so damn good at what he does . . . but it also makes him just a little bit complicated.

One minute Gaby’s tempted to give in; the next, she’s getting cold feet. How can she trust a guy who’s destined for bigger and better things to stick around? Then again, when Landon pulls her close with those powerful arms, the only thing that matters is right now.

••••••

REVIEW: POWER PLAY is the second installment in Sophia Henry’s new adult, contemporary PILOTS HOCKEY romance series focusing on the members of the AHL Hockey team the Detroit Pilots. This is Pilots player Landon Taylor, and Gabriella Bertucci’s story line. POWER PLAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty.

Told from first person point of view (Gabriella) POWER PLAY follows the building relationship from friends to lovers of Landon Taylor and Gabriella Bertucci. Landon is a semi-pro hockey player whose star is about to rise; Gabriella is the only daughter of an Italian-American businessman who appears to have misplaced his faith in the wrong member of the family. What ensues is Landon’s attempts to woo the young woman he has loved for most of his life, and Gaby’s attempts get the recognition she deserves from the family she believes doesn’t know she exists.

POWER PLAY looks behind the scenes of a successful business family, and their attempts to protect the daughter they believe may be broken beyond repair. Gabriella has worked beside her father since she was a little girl but three years earlier our heroine faced the fight of her life. But to be honest, hockey and any ice time are secondary to the story line.

Landon Taylor comes from a well respected, and well to do family but believes he has been pushed aside to make way for the younger heirs. Landon has worked hard to achieve his success in hockey, and is hoping to one day make it to the NHL While his other teams members are called up to the big leagues, Landon bides his time playing one game at a time.

POWER PLAY is a sweet story but reads more like a young adult (YA) story line than a new adult romance. Most of the $ex scenes are implied or skim the surface. There are no graphic $ex scenes, or graphic sexual language. The leading characters, although 19 and 21+, act more like younger teens when it comes to their emotions and family interactions; for two people who have loved one another for years, I did not feel the emotional need or connection. The use of ‘hoes’ and ‘buck bunnies’ is reflective of the YA nature of the story-many adults would walk away without a backwards glance. And the heroines continued need to deny her friendship with the leading hero pushed one too many of my buttons. If it were not for the ages of the leading characters ( and one slightly sexual love scene) I would think this series would be more successful in the YA category.

But Macy’s the only girl who Raphael ever let in, the only girl who really knows his sexy, dangerous side. And with the Crescent City Casanova, the only way to keep up, is to be tied down…

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: POWER PLAY is the second instalment in Mallery Malone’s contemporary, adult Billionaire’s Club: New Orleans erotic romance series focusing on three friends (Sebastian, Gabriel , Raphael) who grew up on the mean streets of New Orleans. Together they have fought their way to the top, starting in the school of Hard Knocks-a gym where local kids learn to fight with boxing gloves and not guns. All three men are equal partners in DJD Holding-the parent club to Hard Knocks. This is former MMA fighter Raphael Jerroult and, chef/restaurant owner Macy Lovelace’s story.

Told from third person POV, the storyline follows the rekindling of a relationship that fell apart eight years earlier. Raphael and Macy were childhood best friends, sweethearts and first loves but following the death of Raphael’s mother and subsequent suicide of his emotionally absent father, Raphael wanted to distance himself from Macy fearing he would turn out just like his father. Sending Macy to Paris to study cooking, Raphael realized he had made a mistake but two months later Macy had disappeared and no one would tell Raphael where she had gone. Fast forward eight years when Macy and Raphael would run into one another at Sebastian and Renata’s (Knock Out book 1) engagement party and the love they once felt for one another-has never died.

The relationship between Macy and Raphael is sensual, sexual and intimate. Macy and Raphael have never stopped loving one another but time, distance and miscommunication pushed the best friends and lovers in opposite directions believing that, in the end, neither one wanted the other. But Macy has a secret-one that could destroy the foundation of their second chance at love-and when the truth is revealed, Raphael will walk away-once again.

The secondary characters include Sebastian and Renata (book 1), and Gabriel who will be featured in Take Down-book #3. The world building continues as the friendship between Raphael, Sebastian and Gabriel follows each man as he finds the love of his life while focusing on the business of DJD Holdings.

Mallery Malone writes a seductive and compelling storyline about a second chance at love for two people who have never stopped loving one another. The love making is intense, emotional and passionate for two people whose lives splintered at a time when they needed each other the most but have been brought back together by a mutual friendship, a secretive past and two hearts that will never forget.
