OFFICER OFF LIMITS (Line of Duty #3) by Tessa Bailey

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 17, 2013

His need to possess her is non-negotiable.

Story Brooks’ fiancé just called off their wedding two weeks before the happy day. As if that isn’t bad enough, her semi-estranged father, an infamous NYPD hostage negotiator, has suffered a heart attack. Not wanting to examine her lack of emotion over the broken engagement, she hops on a plane to reconnect with her father before it’s too late.

Playboy hostage negotiator Daniel Chase has never, not once, been refused by a woman, so when a debate over hospital snack foods with a delectable kindergarten teacher ends in flat-out rejection, he makes it his mission to seduce her. His only obstacle? She’s the daughter of his mentor who implicitly forbade Daniel from pursuing her.

Despite her father’s warnings and Daniel’s troubled past, Daniel and Story can’t resist their intense attraction to one another. But when the reason for her fiancé’s abrupt wedding cancellation comes to light, can Story and Daniel’s already forbidden relationship survive?

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: OFFICER OFF LIMITS is the third storyline in Tessa Bailey’s contemporary romance LINE OF DUTY series. Each novel (so far) is a stand-alone so there is no worry about cohesion and connection. This is Story and Daniel’s tale.

Story and Daniel’s meeting is both accidental and fate. From opposite ends of the country, the couple will be pulled into a sensual vortex of want and need from their first meeting. Story, needing time to adjust to her fiance’s final words, heads to New York to visit her ailing father. Never expecting to meet someone so soon, Story is sexually aware of her attraction and desire for her father’s protégé and fellow hostage negotiator Daniel Chase.

The attraction between Story and Daniel is instant. From the first time they lay eyes on each other to their first erotic and spontaneous encounter, the couple is lost in a world of sexual heat, emotional turmoil and sensual need. And keeping their relationship a secret from Story’s father is constantly on their mind. The sex is hot and graphic with little room for interpretation. But I am happy to report that although the visual is colorful, Tessa has the ability to write an erotic love scene without the use of certain four letter words.

There is some back story to Daniel’s life that is slowly revealed over the course of the book. We learn that although Story’s life was never perfect being raised by a single parent, Daniel’s early life was much more traumatic and dangerous making him the man and officer he is today.

OFFICER OFF LIMITS is another interesting and fascinating storyline with a little humor and plenty of steam in the bedroom-or stairwell-or backseat-or—well, you get the picture. There are a few moments of suspense as a small secondary story builds throughout the novel and comes to fruition in the final pages of the book, but overall it is a story about two people mutually attracted to one another, who give it their all knowing that at anytime it could all end with a phone call or the discovery of their ill-timed relationship. If you love a contemporary romance storyline where the sex scenes are passionate and hawt; the relationship is adult without the angst of perceived betrayal; and the ability of the author to pull you in until you become one with the characters then OFFICER OFF LIMITS is right for you.

TAKE ME UNDER Tour Banner

June 4th, 2013 marks the release of TAKE ME UNDER-the first book in Rhyannon Byrd’s new DANGEROUS TIDES series.  The Reading Cafe would like to introduce the author RHYANNON BYRD.

Interview

Rhyannon Byrd 3TRC: Hi Rhyannon and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations on the release of TAKE ME UNDER, the first book in your new Dangerous Tides series.

Rhyannon: Thanks so much for inviting me to The Reading Café, and many thanks for the congrats!! 🙂

TRC: We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Rhyannon: I have a wonderful husband who’s a Brit and does all the cooking despite his busy schedule, two great kids who make me laugh every day, and have lived in the UK for the past five years. I love books, music, travel, museums, beaches, sunshine, good food, good friends, Pearl Jam concerts, my iPod, football, scented candles, movies, my Rottie and Beagle, a clean house, and last but not least, spending time with my crazy but awesome family. And I also spend a ton of time sitting at my laptop writing…to the point that I sometimes feel like my eyes are going to fall out of my head…but I still consider myself incredibly lucky to have something that I enjoy so much as a fulltime career.

TRC: You currently reside in England, but previous to that you were a long time resident of the USA. What is the best/worst thing (for you) about living in each country and why? What do you miss most about living in the USA?

Rhyannon: The best thing about living in the UK would be all the wonderful places we get to visit. The worst thing is driving on the roads here, which I hate. But I did finally get my British driving license this past March, so I’m forcing myself to get out in my Mini and make the best of it.

The best thing about living in the USA was the shopping…and the Mexican food! OMG, do I miss the Mexican food! The worst was the freaking snakes that used to come onto our property when we lived in Florida. I. HATE. SNAKES. Seriously. With a passion. So it’s lovely not to have to worry about them anymore.
I think the thing I miss most about living in the States is the weather. I spent most of my life in either California or Florida and desperately miss those hot sunny days at the beach!

Take me UnderTRC: Would you please tell us something about the premise of TAKE ME UNDER?

Rhyannon: TAKE ME UNDER is the first book in my new contemporary erotic Dangerous Tides series with Berkley Heat. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a new erotic romance out and I’m so excited to finally be writing them again! TAKE ME UNDER is a hot, sexy, emotional story about a shy divorcee named Reese who moves to Florida in the hopes of escaping a psychotic stalker. When she discovers that her mom has rented her a beach house owned by the town’s sexy bad boy sheriff, Ben Hudson, she’s shocked. But what’s even more surprising is when Ben makes it clear that he’s interested in being a hell of a lot more than her landlord. And when danger follows her to the sleepy little beach town, Ben quickly claims the role of Reese’s personal bodyguard, determined to do whatever it takes to protect her. Ben is definitely one of my all-time favorite heroes and I can’t wait to hear what readers think of him! 🙂

TRC: How many books do you have planned for the series?

Rhyannon: At the moment there are 3 books and a novella planned for the series. They’ll each have a standalone storyline, so it’s really the different characters that tie the series together. The Hudson brothers—Ben, Alex and Mike—are the heroes in the three full-length novels. Scott Ryder, the hero in Make Me Yours, is one of Ben’s deputies. Make Me Yours is a novella that falls between the first and second books in the series, and the story will be included in the WICKED AND DANGEROUS anthology that’s coming out in October with the awesome Shayla Black.

TRC: How much research (logistical, background etc) was involved in the writing of this series?

Rhyannon: I had to research some of the aspects of Ben’s career, but in regards to the setting it helped that I’ve spent a lot of time in Florida. We would vacation on the Gulf every July, so I chose that type of location because it was one that I felt comfortable with and hoped I would be able to portray in a believable manner.

TRC: If you could virtually cast the major characters in this particular storyline, which actors or models would represent your ideal image?

Rhyannon Byrd imagesRhyannon: This was such an easy question to answer because I had included images in the cover art file I put together for Berkley’s art department. I sent them a gorgeous photo of Gerard Butler for Ben, and one of the adorable Anna Friel for Reese.

TRC: Do your storyline characters speak to you and tell you the direction of the story or do you direct the characters?

Rhyannon: I start out directing…but they almost always take control by the end. I’ve learned not to argue with them. 😉

TRC: KEEP ME CLOSER is the second storyline, slated for release in June 2014. Would you please tell us who are your leading characters?

Rhyannon: Alex Hudson, Ben’s brother, is the hero in book 2, and Brit Cramer, Ben’s friend, is the heroine. When putting the cover art file together for Keep Me Closer, I chose several rugged images of Michael Fassbender for Alex, and two photos of the beautiful Evan Rachel Wood for Brit. Alex and Brit are going to be such an explosive couple, and the cover for their book is my absolute favorite. I can’t wait to share it with you guys!

And here’s an early peek at the back cover copy:

Five years after the end of his marriage and his career as a detective, Alex Hudson wears a permanent suit of armor to keep the world at bay. Now a P.I. in South Florida, he believes that he’s better off free of romantic complications—even if a certain beautiful redhead makes him sweat with little more than a look. But he’s determined to steer clear of women and the trouble they bring. Until trouble comes uninvited…

Renowned therapist Brit Cramer has seen her fair share of violence and knows how to handle it. But when a former patient targets Brit as his feminine “ideal,” she finds help in the last place she ever expected—the tall, dark, outrageously sexy Alex Hudson, who saves her from a violent attack. Brit’s been powerfully attracted to Alex from the moment they first met several years ago, but she knew better than to do more than enjoy the view…
The initial uncertainty they both feel shatters in the face of a searing, absolute desire, but their time is running out as they find themselves caught in the sights of a madman who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. Before they know it, they’re fighting not only for their lives, but the possibility that they may have both found exactly what they’ve always wanted and needed…in each other.

TRC: Many authors face challenges in writing or getting their books to publication. What are some of the difficulties you have faced in your writing career?

Rhyannon: I think the hardest part is just finding people that you click with and who are eager to champion your work, because the more people you have fighting for your projects—from editors and agents to the publisher’s marketing department—the better your chances of finding success.

TRC: How do you handle (the combination of) the pressure and stress of a deadline and, family life at home?

Rhyannon: I don’t!! I become a raving lunatic when deadline approaches. Wish I could say that wasn’t the case, but it’s true. Luckily my family is great at handling me in crisis mode and they really see me through to the end. Without their support I would probably just curl up in a corner in the fetal position and pull a blanket over my head. But they bring me tea and food, encourage me to keep going, and force me to take breaks every now and then by dragging me outside and making me get some fresh air.

TRC: 😉

TRC: If you had a chance to become a contestant on a reality television show, which program would you like to be a participant and why?

Rhyannon: I would have to choose Britain’s Got Talent just so that I could meet David Walliams because I think he’s such an incredibly awesome guy. And I love the way he gives Simon Cowell such a hard time! The only problem is that I don’t actually have a talent that I could perform, so it would probably be a bit awkward. 😉

TRC: What five things would you like to accomplish in the next ten years?

Rhyannon:

1: I would love to travel and explore a lot of the places that I’ve always wanted to visit but have never been to, like Italy, Greece, and the south of France.
2: I would love to learn to speak Italian because it’s such a beautiful language.
3: I would love to finally get in shape and be able to go for a run without feeling like it’ll kill me. LOL
4: I would love to learn to play the piano. I would probably play it badly, but at least I would know how to play it! 😉
5: And when it comes to writing, I would love to see my books reaching more readers and hopefully one day even making a bestseller’s list. That would be so lovely!

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Wicked and DangerousRhyannon: I’m currently working on the copyedits for Make Me Yours, which will be in the WICKED AND DANGEROUS anthology that’s coming out in October. I’m also working on KEEP ME CLOSER, as well as some exciting self-published projects that will be coming out this summer. 🙂

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?

Rhyannon: Just a truly heartfelt THANK YOU to my readers for spending their hard-earned money on my books and making it possible for me to do something I love so much for a career. Without them, none of this would be possible and I am truly grateful for each and every one of them!!!!

Ben Hudson had a thing for shy, sexy Reese Monroe from the moment he first saw her three years ago. Back then, she was married and living in Boston—two very good reasons for the Miami detective with a bad boy reputation to stay away.

But that was then…

Now Reese is divorced and moving to Florida, where her mother has rented her a small beach house—one that happens to be owned by Ben. Living right next door, he can’t get Reese’s soft curves out of his mind. He’s waited three long years to touch her in all the ways he’s been dreaming about, and this time he won’t let anything get in his way.

For Reese, Ben’s sudden advances are thrilling, but leave her stunned. With her limited experience in the bedroom, she never expects a man with such a wicked reputation to go after her. She knows she should be on guard, but he’s a temptation she can’t resist. And when trouble follows her down from Boston, threatening her life, Ben may be the only one who can help her.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 28, 2013

THE SEARCH FOR A TRAITOR

As the demon world celebrates the defeat of the Dark Lord, the vampire Santiago’s mood remains bleak. He still yearns for the sensual, raven-haired Nefri, who has inexplicably disappeared. But brooding for Nefri is a luxury that Santiago does not have. His traitorous sire, Gaius, is unleashing a violent scourge upon the mortal world, and Santiago must stop him before it’s too late…

LEADS TO A DANGEROUS SEDUCTION

To her dismay, the all-powerful Oracles have sent Nefri on her own mission to find Gaius, and failure is not an option. Nefri’s search leads her to the vampire’s abandoned lair—and straight into Santiago’s path. It’s clear Santiago intends to seduce her, but then an ancient, banished evil reappears, threatening to thrust the world into a madness it cannot survive…

•••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: Darkness Avenged is the tenth storyline in Alexandra Ivy’s Guardians of Eternity and oh, what a ride. There are three overlapping storylines that culminate in a final scene where the major players all seek retribution against the one vampire who has betrayed them all. At the end of Fear the Darkness, the Dark Lord had been destroyed and the tortured vampire Gaius had escaped through the Veil in search of someone long thought dead.

The main storyline focuses on vampires Santiago and Nefri. Nefri has been ordered by The Commission to locate Gaius. Gaius for all intents and purposes is lost to this world but he is also Santiago’s sire. Santiago is the one person who will be able to locate the missing vampire-presumed taken to the afterlife when the Dark Lord was defeated. Having come through the Veil a mere shadow of his former self, Gaius is lost to a darker power when he is promised the return of his beloved and long dead mate. When Santiago discovers it is Nefri who must hunt down Gaius for The Commission, he decrees himself guardian of the beautiful and enigmatic Clan Chief as she endeavors to locate the missing vampire who is wreaking havoc on the emotions of everyone and everything.

Secondary to Santiago and Nefri’s story, Chicago Vampire Clan Chief Roke suddenly finds himself enchanted by the little witch Sally as she is held prisoner at Styx’s estate. As the King of the vampires, Styx knows that Sally was once a trusted friend and companion of Gaius, and both, at one time, lived behind the veil. Styx needs to know what has happened to the man he once called a friend and Sally is the ticket to that information. But Sally refuses to reveal the information in fear that the more sinister side of Gaius takes his revenge. The others will soon learn that Sally is much more than a witch when she is able to break through the vampire King’s warded estate to discover the truth to her witch heritage and powerful legacy.

Thirdly, part of the storyline focuses on Gaius-a vampire so tortured by the Dark Lord, that he was willing to give up his soul to see his beloved mate one last time. This particular part of the storyline followed Gaius as he struggled with the illusion that all would be right in his world once his mate was brought back from the dead. Gaius is no longer the strong and beautiful vampire, but a mere puppet possessed by something much stronger and much older than anyone thought possible. We have followed Gaius throughout the series-cried when he lost his mate: heartbroken when he pledged himself to the Dark Lord: and defeated when we realized there was no turning back for the once brave and powerful vampire.

All three storylines will cross paths as Gaius brings everyone together for a final showdown in a warehouse where a powerful magic must be contained. When the source of everything evil is finally revealed, one vampire will be dust, another will go in search of his missing mate, and still another will retreat to the other side of the Veil to start a life with his family and new love.

The relationship between Santiago and Nefri is fraught with the usual tug of attraction between two souls meant to be together. Their sexual encounters are both loving and hot, and you know that together they will make a formidable pair. As a powerful Clan Chief, Nefri is held in high esteem and worshipped by many who have heard about her powers. It will take a strong vampire, sure in himself, to become consort and mate to such a powerful Chief.

DARKNESS AVENGED is an exciting storyline that answers many of the questions building in the previous books and novels. Alexandra smoothly blends three parallel stories into one imaginative narration of good vs evil, heartbreak and sorrow, love and lost. With her amazing cast of familiar characters readers will feel at home in Darkness Avenged. If you are a fan of Alexandra’s GUARDIANS OF ETERNITY, Darkness Avenged is a must read. There is NO WAY you can skip this installment.

17207134LEVET (a novella)

LEVET is a bonus novella included with the paper copy of Darkness Avenged. As the little gargoyle shunned by his own kind, LEVET is a hero in his own eyes. At the end of Fear the Darkness, Levet was instrumental in helping to defeat the Dark Lord but he continues to be the bane of many a vampire’s existence. But Levet is a power until himself and returning home to the land of his birthplace, Levet will encounter the family who pushed him aside as a freak and a mistake. And in his mind, Levet deserves to have his name placed on the Wall of Memories for all time and in doing so Levet must face his worst fears-the gargoyles he once called family.

Levet is like a small child who at times craves the attention of adults, but this little gargoyle is trying to find a place in the grand scheme of the supernatural world. Upon his return to Paris, he must not only face his sibling as well as his brutal mother, but also a vampire who is slowly losing his hold on the woman with whom he has fallen in love. And it will take a small gargoyle with a heart of stone, to show the vampire the way to a woman’s heart is through love.

LEVET is a cute storyline that offers up a small peak into the world of a shunned gargoyle who wants to be loved for himself. Both heartwarming and heartbreaking, Levet is a welcome addition to the Guardians of Eternity family of storylines and novels.

Character interview

An interview with Levet:

Levet 2

You are a favorite with the ladies. What’s your secret?

Secret? How can it be a secret when you can see my manly physic and the handsome length of my tail? I use champagne, you know, to keep it glossy. The women adore a man of beauty and strength. And of course, I am quite charming, as well.

You once had a magical wish that allowed you to grow to normal gargoyle size. How did it feel?

It was, a fascinating change. And I suppose that many gargoyles in my position would be disappointed to return to a more…diminutive size. I, however, am a demon who does not need to be a hulking beast to be a formidable adversary. My magic can send entire armies running in fear. Besides, any woman can tell you that size does not matter.

What’s your opinion of Vampires? Werewolves?

Bah. Bloodsuckers are a pain in the ear. No…wait. Is it toe? Neck? Oui. The neck. Did you get the joke? The Vanna gig did not work out so I am rehearsing my monologue for the Tonight Show. It is time for Jay to retire again. And as for those mangy dogs…they should be put into kennels and left to rot.

Unless they are female. And then I find them irresistible.

Have you ever been in love?

Oui. So many, many times. Ah. J’adore être dans l’amour. I am a Frenchman, after all.

What’s your age?

Why. Do you see a wrinkle? Where?

Your favorite movie?

The Hunchback of Notre Dame, of course.

If you could be any leading man, who would you be?

What a silly question. I am considered by many to be an exact duplicate of Brad Pitt. Well, perhaps I am not an exact duplicate. But when you see me in profile in the right lighting…it resemblance is uncanny.

Any words for your fans?

Please know that I adore each and that it has been my very great pleasure to have become a part of your lives. If I can bring a smile to your beautiful face then my work is done.

Braeden and Janne

ABOUT THE BOOK: Duty and desire clash to save a new Camelot from the sons of Mordred. After his brother is made king by a dying Arthur, Braeden hopes to help Constantine rebuild Camelot and carry on Arthur’s vision for the kingdom. Together with the new queen, and her companion Janne, a new era begins. Although the ways of Merlin and Morganna are banned from court, . Janne holds to the goddess. She finds the mind overrules the heart when she and Braeden are betrothed. Refusing to marry him, . she fears their union will bring the fall of the kingdom. With the sons of Mordred, Melehan and Melou plotting the ultimate revenge…brother versus brother…there is no peace to be had in Camelot. When Janne is exposed as a Druidess, she and Braeden must find a way to expose the plot to take down Camelot while maintaining the ideals the majestic realm was built upon.

••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: Braeden and Janne is the second book in the Beyond Camelot series by Kathye Quick. For three years, Braeden and a contingency of knights pursued Mordred’s sons to bring an end to their quest to see the fall of Camelot. The people began to fear the magic of Merlin and spells of Morgana might return and Camelot would fall once again, so King Constantine had no choice but to ban the old ways from the kingdom and those found to hold to them were to be brought before the high court under a charge of treason.

Janne’s mother was a Druidess and Janne had been raised using powders and herbs to heal people. But practicing the arts was forbidden and Janne knew that Braeden would have to choose between his love for her or his love of his brother, King Constantine and Camelot. Once Braeden returned, Janne tried to distance herself from him, refusing his repeated proposals of marriage. She knew his was duty bound to uphold the laws of his King and she did not want to hinder the future of Camelot. But she loves Braeden with everything she has and although she knows she should push him away, they are drawn together time after time. Constantine is heartbroken that his decree to ban the old ways may force his brother to choose between Camelot or his true love, but Constantine felt he had no other option. Janne refuses to stop using the old ways to heal and save lives. It is more important to her to heal someone and risk being caught then to stand aside and let someone die.

Now enters Lady Johanna Delacore…..oh she’s the villain that we all love to hate! Never have I wanted to reach into a book and punch someone in the face more than this woman. Johanna teams up with Melehan to unleash a series of events that they hope will bring down the mighty Camelot. Johanna pushes herself into the kingdom under the falsehood that she is grieving for her deceased husband and needs a place to rest from her travels. Once there, she spies and investigates until she discovers that Janne is a Druidess. Melehan helps Johanna by providing additional false witnesses that say they witnessed Janne practicing “magic”. Johanna brings her witnesses before King Constantine’s court to declare that Janne is a Druidess. For Janne’s safety, Constantine has Janne locked in the dungeons to protect her from the crazed mob of people that want to see her punished.

Johanna visits her, bragging how she will be the fall of Camelot because once Braeden finds out that Constantine had her locked away, Braeden will have to choose between his love or his brother. Janne is heartbroken because this is what she tried to protect Braeden from. With the sons of Mordred on their way to attack Camelot, Braeden, Janne and Constantine stand together to defend that which they loved. Janne and Braeden stand strong to battle all that try to divide Camelot.

Now that I’ve given you the summary of the book, let me tell you how much I loved this story. I’ve always been a fan of King Arthur, Knights of the Round Table stories so when I read the plot of the book, I was excited and knew I would enjoy it. Kathye Quick writes her storyline so descriptive that I could picture myself at Camelot. I have not read the first book in this series (Cynthia and Constantine) but it was easy to follow. The author gave enough background information so the reader knows where Janne and Braeden’s love story began. Reading the struggle that Janne and Braeden go through is heart wrenching, Janne not wanting to compromise who she is, not wanting Braeden to have to choose between his love for her and his loyalty to his brother. Braeden is so admirable, he doesn’t care who he displeases by loving Janne. Rules be damned! And what would any story be without it’s villians?? As much as I despised Johanna and Melehan, they were crucial to the plot. Without their dastardly deeds and wicked ways, the book would’ve fallen flat. It just would’ve been a knight chasing a woman who was playing hard to get. I really enjoyed this story and these characters and can’t wait to read the first book and the future stories in this series.

Guest Post beige

I’m actually writing this post on Mother’s Day, so I’m a bit sentimental today. Just came home from a Mother’s Day brunch with my youngest. I never had a real “favorite” child, but there are 12 years between my twins and my youngest. In 12 years things change and life evolves, so while I went through being a single, working mom with my older boys, I had the luxury of staying home with the youngest until he started first grade. Our relationship is different than that of my relationship with my twins. I love them all, but I have to say, I feel a little closer to the ‘baby’.

Bumblebee Transformers One of the things I got to do more with the youngest was what he called ‘play toys.” “Mom, play toys with me” was an almost daily ritual, one I looked forward to doing since I already knew how quickly children grow out of the wanting to be with mom stage and into the drop me off a block from school stage. So I carefully made sure I played toys whenever asked.

One of his most favorite ‘toys to play’ was Transformers. The resurgence of the Transformers into modern movies always makes me think back on this with a smile. Except for one thing. I was never allowed to be an Autobot.

Transformers first appeared when my youngest son was around 4. He took to it like them proverbial duck to water; Transformers and the Gobots. But the Gobots never quite achieved the super star status as did the Transformers.

Megatron and Optimus PrimeIt all begins with the name. The heroes, Optimus Prime or Leader-1? Which has the better name? That also goes for the evil machines – Megatron or Cy-Kill? Need I even ask?

The Gobots had boring henchmen like Cop-Tur and Turbo and Tank, while the Transformers had (and still apparently have according to the millions made at the box office) Bumblebee, Ironhide, Bluestreak and Sunstreaker if you are an Autobot. If you lean more toward the dark side you’re a Decepticon such as Star Scream, Galvatron, Shockwave and Buzzsaw. C’mon. You know these guys are way cooler just by what they are called.

WolverineIt was a good thing I was into sci-fi and trucks from having three boys because these things became a staple in my house for a long time when they first were introduced by Hasbro. Which brings me to why I loved seeing the Transformers movies. It certainly wasn’t the plots. There were none to speak of. The storylines jumped all around, some character lines weren’t tied up and finalized and mostly, things blew up and there was a lot of noise; for over two and a half hours. And while Shia is not unpleasant to look at for that length of time, he’s no Hugh Jackman as Wolverine or Chris Pine as the current Captain Kirk.

But I digress.

In truth, I loved seeing the movies because they remind me of a time long ago when my son was small, innocent of what lay ahead for him and totally and unconditionally my best friend. We played Transformers in blanket-made caves on his bed, in kitchen pot hide-aways in the living room and in the alien-plant terrain of the backyard flower garden. We regularly blew up an awful lot of Tupperware and foiled the latest sinister plot hatched by the evil Decepticons. On Saturday mornings we’d watch the Transformers cartoon over cheerios and end the day with a book about the heroic Optimus Prime.

Back then I was never allowed to be an Autobot because my son was destined to save the world. Heck, he’s not thirty yet, so maybe he still will!

Thanks for letting me take you on a different kind of journey. Hope you didn’t mind.

Kathye

But just as Sloane demands her complete surrender, she discovers he has a dark side that could destroy them both.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: POSSESSION is the second installment in Jennifer Lyon’s contemporary romantic/erotic Plus One Chronicles series. Possession continues the story three days after The Proposition where Sloane proposes more than a plus-one relationship with Kat-he wants to help her overcome her fear and anxiety following an attack more than six years ago, that has left her with permanent injuries and PTSD. Trying to keep their relationship at the Plus One stage is difficult when the heart falls fast and hard.

Sloane Michaels is an ex-UFC fighter with a past haunted by the murder of his sister and the reality of his best friend’s illness. Hoping to keep his past a secret, Sloane fails miserably when he willingly reveals everything to Kat. Kat neither manipulates nor threatens Sloane, but her need to help and listen, tug at Sloane’s heart and soul. Their Plus One relationship becomes something more.

Throughout the series, Kat must face the trauma and truth about the attack that left her near death and without any memory of that time. Sloane’s ability to help her with the struggle will slowly reveal that it was more than a random attack, but one that was more personal than she could have imagined.

Once again, Jennifer Lyon pulls the reader into a storyline that will pique your curiosity and break your heart. The relationship between Kat and Sloane is hot, sexy and crossing the imaginary boundary of plus one into something more-something more like love?

Sloane is a man after my own heart-he is my new book boyfriend. Yes, I admit it. This is part of my 12 step program admitting he is my new fantasy lover. He is every woman’s dream; very sexy, very handsome and a protector above all else. He is a modern day warrior out to avenge his sister’s death; and he is a man falling in love with the woman who refuses to give up or give in. We learn more about Sloane’s history-his family and his friendships and, the pain and guilt that makes the man what he is today- and we are introduced to a few of his closest friends.

The Plus One Chronicles is an amazing new series by Jennifer Lyon. There is romance and love; betrayal and hate; heartbreak and sorrow. Combine it all with the talented writing of Jennifer Lyon and you have another wonderful series that is sure to top your favorite reads.  The characters are real; you can feel their emotions and sympathize with their struggles.  And if you haven’t met Sloane, let me introduce you to him in The Proposition -book one!

5 Ways to Tame a UFC Fighter Hero

the Plus One Chronicles

Thank you so much for having me here today! Sloane is an ex-UFC fighter and one of my all-time favorite heroes to write about. Once he meets Kat in book one of The Plus One Chronicles, THE PROPOSITION, the goal that has driven him for over a decade—revenge—becomes entangled with his increasing need for her. Sloane is getting caught in the ever tightening trap of having to choose between the vengeance he’s sworn and the woman he craves.

So now that you have a little background, I’d like to share with you 5 ways Kat is “taming” the UFC Fighter.

1) Sloane is seriously hot and extremely rich, so women fall all over him to do whatever he wants. All except for Kat. She makes it clear to Sloane that she will stand up to him:

Time to establish her boundaries. “Sloane?”

He looked down at her. “Yeah?”

“Thank you. I’ll see the doctor.” She was grateful. Truly.
He nodded.

Then she added, “Now move your arm and get out of my space.”

2) When he makes you a proposition, turn him down. Make him work for it. In The Proposition, Sloane wants Kat to be his plus-one and in his bed. She tells him no. A fighter can’t resist a challenge:

She kept her gaze on the scrupulously clean table beneath her hands. “You’re not used to being told no, are you?”

“I’ve grown accustomed to getting what I want.”

She heard him move nearer. Felt the fine hairs on her neck twitch. She knew he was close behind her, yet he didn’t touch her. Instead, he laid a thick, cream-colored business card on the table between her hands. SLAM Inc. Sloane Michaels, CEO was blazed across it. All the usual information. His hand vanished.

“You already have my private cell number in your phone. Here’s the rest of my contact info.”

His voice was so close to her back, she shivered. “Why are you pursuing me?”

“Because I want you.”

3) Put lavender steaks in your hair. Here’s a clip from POSSESSION of Sloane telling Kat what he noticed first about her:

“You hid. Withdrawing to protect yourself. When I first saw you, you were tucked behind a column.”

“Then why did you see me?” All those polished women in pretty gowns and he’d honed in on her. It hadn’t made sense.

“The pink streaks in your hair.”

“Lavender.”

His full lips twitched. “Whatever, baby, those streaks scream, Look at me. This is who I am and if you don’t like it…

4) Make lemon cupcakes. Sloane loves Kat’s lemon cupcakes!

“Careful there, champ, I know your weakness.”

He lifted an eyebrow. “What’s that?”

“Lemon cupcakes. I’m pretty sure I could get you to beg for a lemon cupcake.” Okay, she might be pushing her luck.

“Cheater.” Wrapping his hand in her hair, he leaned in. “You know I’d do anything for your lemon cupcakes.”

5) Make him burn:

“Not until I kiss you.” He brushed his mouth over hers, kissing his way to her ear. “And you burn for me like I’ve been burning for you. For three f*cking days.” And nights. Even while he trained, something that had been unheard of before Kat.

Kat and Sloane’s relationship begins in The Proposition, but in Possession, it burns hotter and grows deeper. I hope you’ll give The Proposition and Possession a try! Sloane and Kat get their happily-ever-after in the final, explosive book Obsession.

the Descendant

BOOK BLURB:

Allison Carmichael wakes from a car wreck with no memory of the past three years. She doesn’t recall her husband’s death or how she alienated her friends, and she definitely doesn’t remember anything about her new boyfriend Vincent Drake – a charismatic man with a penchant for rare and unique possessions. In fact, the only things familiar to Allison are her seemingly common ailments – insomnia, lack of appetite, erratic body temperature – which have gone undiagnosed and are worsening.

But Vincent knows exactly who, and what, Allison is – a mortal descendant of the first vampire. He is a vampire who has watched over Allison and her ancestors since the biblical times of Cain and Abel ensuring their secret is kept. Once he realizes Allison’s symptoms are accelerating and transforming her, he’ll stop at nothing to have her.

REVIEW:

Allison Carmichael has led a charmed life. She has a wonderful career, loving and gorgeous husband and beautiful home, but she feels there is something lacking……….. All of her life she has grown up hearing that she is “special”. Her mother’s doctor reinforced this notion when she was born. She is also experiencing weird physical ailments—insomnia, lack of appetite, erratic body temperature. Her doctors don’t have a diagnosis for her and she is getting cranky!

One morning, Allison wakes up from a car accident with no memory of the past three years. She doesn’t recall her husband’s death and she doesn’t remember anything about her new home or sexy new boyfriend, Vincent Drake! This tall, dark and handsome man knows what Allison is—a mortal descendent of the first vampire. He has watched over Allison and her family for generations to ensure that their secret is safe. The author weaves biblical stories of Cain and Abel and Noah’s Ark in telling the story of the creation of the vampire race. Once Vincent realizes that Allison’s symptoms are increasing, he will stop at nothing to transform her and claim this first descendent turned vampire.

Allison must decide if she is ready to transform into a vampire and lose her soul in the process or if she should remain mortal. It is her choice to make. A decision that is difficult when she finds that she has been a pawn in Vincent’s manipulations. Vincent has been manipulating her life to suit his needs and Allison begins to question what really happened in those lost three years. Will she be able to forgive Vincent?

This novel is very fast paced and the story behind vampirism is fascinating. Allison was not always a sympathetic character, due to her “specialness” but she is feisty and determined to live her life on her own terms. When she meets the villain in the story, his defeat is rather anticlimactic! He is centuries old and is defeated rather quickly. Who knows? He could still make a future appearance! The story ends in a cliffhanger and Allison is now ready to search for some answers to what really happened to her during her “lost three years”. This was an engaging first book in a truly original novel about vampires!

Guest post-White and Red

6 Nerdy Things To Do This Summer

1.      Reread your favorite book series – Be it Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, or Goosebumps, put some time aside to delve back into the fictional worlds you love and remember why you loved them so much in the first place.

 2.      Make a costume – Do you have a favorite superhero/heroine you wish you could be? Put some time and effort into creating the best costume you can. Then post the pictures so we can all marvel at your awesomeness. P.S. This will also mean you’ll have the best Halloween costume!

3.      Watch a new genre of film – Are there some cult classics you’ve never seen like The Rocky Horror Picture Show or the Evil Dead movies? Maybe you’re interested in foreign films but don’t know where to start? I highly recommend a French film called Amelie which is a sweet, magical romance, or Night Watch and its sequel Day Watch, two Russian films that are intense paranormal thrillers. How about some Japanese animation? Howl’s Moving Castle, Spirited Away, and Princess Mononoke are all amazing movies!

4.      Have game nights – Invite friends over for a rousing game of Monopoly! Or try something new. Check out Wil Wheaton’s Table Top Youtube series on GeekandSundry (http://www.youtube.com/user/geekandsundry) for lots of games you’ve never heard of!

5.      Start a blog/vlog – Maybe you want it to be about something specific or maybe you just want a place to ramble. Either way, a blog or vlog is a great way to meet new people with similar interests. Plus, it’s free!

6.      Learn something new – Need a creative outlet? Learn to crochet, knit, sew, draw, make origami, or whittle. Buy a book on the basics of a new language. Write some short stories, poetry, or a whole novel. You know all those things you wish you could do? Well, you’ll never be able to do them unless you learn!

The Summer I Became a Nerd
By Leah Rae Miller

Entangled Publishing – May 7, 2013

TSIBAN 500px RGB- new

On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl’s body isn’t just unknown, it’s anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.
