REVIEW: LOVING SMOKE is the first instalment in Barbara Nolan’s contemporary, adult RBMC: TIJUANA MX erotic, MC romance series-a part of the multi-authored RBMC series. This is RBMC: Tijuana MX president Smoke, and Marisol Marquez’ (Sandoval) story line.
NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Smoke and Marisol) LOVING SMOKE follows in the wake the banishment of Smoke as president of the RBMC: San Diego. A DEA government raid on the San Diego club house sent the members into a tailspin, and Smoke was voted out for his lack of control and inability to take charge. Along with his VP and friend Blood, Smoke was demoted and banished to Tijuana Mexico, in the hopes of starting a new chapter of the RBMC. A rundown bar and strip club was all Smoke and Blood had to their names, and the hiring of bartender Marisol Marquez drew Smoke like a moth to a flame but all is not well in Tijuana Mexico, a corrupt city run by the Mexican Cartel, and Smoke was about to get caught in the crossfire of someone seeking vengeance for sins of the past. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Smoke and Marisol, and the potential fall-out when Smoke discovers a plant, someone seeking to destroy our story line hero.
The world building focuses on the new start and new life of Blood and Smoke. The rebuild of a strip club and bar is a new beginning for a new chapter of the RBMC but the Mexican Cartel is demanding their share, a share that comes with a caveat, and threats to their lives.
The relationship between Marisol and Smoke begins as boss and employee but a relationship predicated upon a number of lies. Marisol is not whom she claims to be, and in the betrayal tears Smoke to his very soul. The $ex scenes are erotic and provocative.
We are introduced to several colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters-the premier members of the RBMC: Tijuana: Smoke’s VP Blood, Enforcer Bolt, Club secretary Ricky, treasurer (and Marisol’s brother) Manny, and prospect Diesel. The requisite evil has many faces.
LOVING SMOKE is a story of secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, power and control, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The premise is dramatic and edgy ; the characters are animated and stubborn; the romance is raw and real
