ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 8, 2022

On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…absolutely nothing. Because he had no idea that he was my true love. What a jerk.

Noelle Lennon has been in love with Brady Breckridge for as long as she can remember. A sad, unrequited love that causes her nothing but trouble as she pines over her brother’s best friend. Now the gorgeous, muscled, secretive special ops bane of her existence is back in town, back in her life…and because a few dangerous incidents may have happened recently, Brady is suddenly declaring himself her personal protector. So unnecessary. Also…so strangely hot.

On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me…too much temptation to handle.

Brady thinks Noelle is in danger, so he vows to stand between her and any threat. Full disclosure? He’s been obsessed with Noelle for years and learning that she’s in danger, that she could have been hurt or killed while he was a continent away…that truth has rocked him to his core. Brady knows he has to fight for the woman he wants, and what better way to win her over than to use the magic of Christmas in his battle? Christmas has always been Noelle’s weakness, and he is not above using that weakness to his advantage.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me…a final chance at love.

Brady will keep her safe, and he’ll charm Noelle into falling for him. His plan has to work because Brady can’t imagine his life without her. But as the nights grow colder and the fierce desire Brady feels for Noelle rages ever hotter, he knows that his control won’t last long. He wants one thing for Christmas this year…just one thing…his true love. And he will do whatever it takes to win Noelle’s heart.

REVIEW: KISS ME THIS CHRISTMAS by Cynthia Eden is a stand alone, contemporary, adult, romantic, suspense, erotic holiday novella loosely connected to the author’s WILDE WAYS series. This is US Special Ops soldier Brady Breckridge, and real estate agent Noelle Lennon’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Brady and Noelle) KISS ME THIS CHRISTMAS follows the best friend’s sister relationship between US Special Ops soldier Brady Breckridge, and real estate agent Noelle Lennon. Brady Breckridge is home for the holidays but found himself the personal protection of the woman he loved. Noelle Lennon is Brady’s best friend’s sister, off limits as far as he was concerned, but when threats against Noelle become dangerous and personal, Brady becomes guardian and protector of our story line heroine. A Christmas party ends in disaster, and Brady is determined to remove Noelle from any more danger but the danger seems to follow wherever they go. What ensues is the quick building romance and relationship between Brady and Noelle, and the potential fall-out as madness, greed and obsession target our story line heroine.

Brady Breckridge has been in love with Noelle Lennon for as long as he can remember but threats against Noelle means Brady must step up his game in an effort to protect the woman he loves. Having made the decision not to re-enlist, Brady has set his sights on making Noelle his wife. Noelle Lennon fell in love with Brady years before but humiliation at a young age pulled Noelle out of his life. Years spent in the service, away from Noelle, gave Brady time to reconsider all that he wanted, and all that he lost. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate without the use of over the top sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Noelle’s brother Elliott Lennon, as well as fellow real estate agents Rowen Welch and Addison Lane.

KISS ME THIS CHRISTMAS is a quick read; a fast paced, holiday novella of suspense and intrigue. The premise is entertaining; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and dynamic.

A Hard Day for a Hangover (Sunshine Vicram 3) by Darynda Jones-dual review

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date December 6, 2022

Some people greet the day with open arms. Sheriff Sunshine Vicram would rather give it a hearty shove and get back into bed, because there’s just too much going on right now. There’s a series of women going missing, and Sunny feels powerless to stop it. There’s her persistent and awesomely-rebellious daughter Auri, who’s out to singlehandedly become Del Sol’s youngest and fiercest investigator. And then there’s drama with Levi Ravinder—the guy she’s loved and lusted after for years. The guy who might just be her one and only. The guy who comes from a family of disingenuous vipers looking to oust him—and Sunshine—for good.

Like we said, the new day can take a hike.

Sandy’s Review:

A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER is the third and final instalment in Darynda Jones’ contemporary, adult SUNSHINE VICRAM romantic suspense series focusing on small town Sheriff Sunshine Vicram, her daughter Auri aka Aurora, and Del Sol’s eclectic group of mad men, thieves, murderers, mean girls and amateur investigators. A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER should not be read as a stand alone as there is an ongoing theme and premise throughout, and picks up immediately after the events of book two A GOOD DAY FOR CHARDONNAY.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Sunshine and Auri) following several intersecting pathways, A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER follows the investigation into the discovery of a badly injured young woman who may or may not be a victim of a serial abuser. Sunshine and her team are called to the cliffs outside of Del Sol where a barely recognizable Jane Doe is struggling to survive. With her daughter Auri on the hunt for clues, Sunshine finds herself investigating the possibility of one of their own targeting innocent young woman. Meanwhile, the love of Sunshine’s life, distillery owner Levi Ravinder must contend with his dysfunctional family, a war ‘brewing’ for ownership of the business, and a secret that is about to change the direction of this life. From the town’s ‘tiny boy band’ breaking into local homes, to another orphan discovering his is no longer alone, Del Sol is the proverbial small town ‘Peyton Place’ and ‘Knot’s Landing’ where secrets reveal decades of lies, buried sins, and years of abnormal social behavior culminating in vengeance and obsession.

A HARD DAY FOR A HANGOVER is a story of family, relationships, friendships, and love with a little bit of Darynda Jones’ requisite humor thrown in for release; jealousy and greed, betrayal, vengeance, and murder. The premise is intriguing, captivating and thrilling but the ‘guilty party’ is too easily deduced; the romance between Sunshine and Levi is heartwarming and emotional; the characters are numerous, energetic and dynamic.

__________

Barb’s Review:
A Hard Day for a Hangover by Darynda Jones is the 3rd book in her Sunshine Vicram series. Refresher: Sunshine (Sunny) Vicram, our heroine, is the newly elected sheriff in her home town of Del Sol, New Mexico.  Sunny recently returned home, having left town years before, at the age of 17; after she suffered a trauma, having been kidnapped and then pregnant. Sunny is a tough, independent, smart, funny heroine, which you couldn’t help but love.  Her relationship with her now 15 year old daughter, Auri was wonderful, as I loved how close they were; while Auri was slowly learning to be like her mother in helping solve crimes.

Sunny has built her own team, as sheriff, with Deputy Quincy her right hand, not to mention best friend.  Seems things never slow down in Del Sol, and Sunny is called to the scene of a young girl found over the edge of the cliff, brutally beaten, but still alive and unconscious.   Sunny begins to suspect that this is another case of women being missing. Is this the work of a serial killer?

Auri, who likes to do sleuthing on her own, questioning others at school, much to the dismay of her mom. Despite the danger, Auri is too headstrong to listen, but she is very good in technical things, as well as finding some clues.

Levi Ravinder, the man Sunny has always loved, has his own problems, with his ruthless members of his family.  Levi, who also cares about Sunny, will learn some secrets that will escalate their relationship.  Levi runs the family distillery, and is determined to make it successful; but he knows other evil members of this family are threatening his life, as well as others.

The first half of the book was hilarious, funny, snarky that made us laugh often, especially with Quincy and her team; but the investigation still stood in front.  I loved how Levi and Sunny came together, and the love Auri had for both of them. The second half of the book was so exciting, filled with non-stop action, danger, murder and violence.  The suspense was so great, I could not put the book down, and the wild frantic ending had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

A Hard Day for a Hangover was not only an intense, exciting, but with lots of heartwarming humor that was a lot of fun. Darynda Jones does an excellent job of giving us light-hearted humor, as well as an intense suspenseful page turner. Jones also gives us great characters, such as Sunny, Levi, Auri, Quincy, Cruz, just to name a few. If you have not read the first two books, I suggest you start with A Bad Day for Sunshine, then A Good Day for Chardonnay, and now A Hard Day for a Hangover.  I had heard this could be the finale of this series, but I would love to read more stories with Sheriff Sunshine Vicram.

Suddenly, Samara’s life is in peril, and it’s up to Michael to rescue the woman who taught him how to love again. But can he find Justice for Samara before it’s too late and she’s just another statistic?

••••••

REVIEW:JUSTICE FOR SAMARA is the sixteenth instalment in Deanndra Hall’s contemporary, adult BLUEGRASS BRAVERY erotic, romantic suspense series, a part of the multi-authored Police and Fire: Operation Alpha series with characters first introduced in author Susan Stoker’s series. This is twenty-seven year old Chief Deputy Michael Edwards, and thirty-five year old Detective Samara Futrell’s story line. JUSTICE FOR SAMARA can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

WARNING: Due to the nature of the story line premise, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Samara and Michael) JUSTICE FOR SAMARA follows the search for a serial rapist. Michael Edwards’ first assignment as the new Chief Deputy in the Trigg County Sheriff’s Department is to hire two new detectives, and with a lack of racial and gender diversity in the department, Michael and Sheriff Carter Melton set their sites Detective Samara Futrell, a veteran police officer looking to make a move. Within days of arrival Samara and Michael begin to act on their attraction to one another but a deadly house fire pushes the couple together in an effort to take down a potential serial rapist. Samara and Michael suspect the person responsible is someone they may both know but Samara’s struggle to get information from a number of victims places everyone in the direct line of fire including our story line heroine. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Michael and Samara, and the potential fall-out when Samara’s past takes aim at our story line heroine.

Meanwhile, Samara and Michael’s interracial relationship becomes an issue when Michael’s mother, and Samara’s parents are unable to deal with their children’s choices but when Samara’s life hangs in the balance, Michael’s mother Marjorie is the first to take a stand in support of the woman Michael loves.

The relationship between Michael and Samara is one of immediate attraction that has the blessing of the Trigg County Sheriff. Michael’s relationship history has always been a black hole where it concerns his fellow officers, and Samara’s past is about to make like more difficult for everyone concerned. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and intense-our couple like to talk dirty in the bedroom.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful secondary and supporting characters, many of whom we have me in previous story line.

JUSTICE FOR SAMARA is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, discrimination and racism, acceptance and love. The character driven premise is captivating, dramatic and intriguing; the romance is seductive and provocative; the characters are energetic, determined and dynamic.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date: OCTOBER 27, 2022

He needs to get her out of his system. Just once…

Hank Weller doesn’t help people. He leaves that do-gooder nonsense to his best friend, Beau Winston. Hank does what he wants, when he wants, with whomever he wants—and Hank does not want to hire Charlotte Mitchell to be an exotic dancer at his club, The Pink Pony. Sure, he can’t help noticing the dips and curves of her, how shrewd, smart, and funny she is, the fire in her hazel eyes. He’s always noticed. She’d probably draw a crowd and entice the regulars. But after Charlotte’s messy, public divorce made Hank’s club out to be the culprit—and made her the single mother of four kids—he doesn’t need or want any additional bad press courtesy of Charlotte Mitchell. Or the distraction. Unfortunately for him, the town’s prettiest charity case doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words nope, no, and never.

Charlotte Mitchell doesn’t much like Hank Weller. Once upon a time, she used to. Years ago, she liked him a whole heckofalot despite other folks in town labeling him as “eccentric” and “nonconformist,” which were polite southern alternatives to “filthy rich” and “self-centered douchebag.” Her opinion of him changed dramatically after he volunteered to be her date to junior prom and then promptly stood her up. They haven’t so much as acknowledged each other in over a decade. But a sudden family emergency means Charlotte needs access to Hank’s club ASAP. Unfortunately for her, the narcissistic fancy-pants doesn’t seem to understand the meaning of the words help, generosity, and compassion.

But he’s about to find himself schooled. Charlotte is going to teach Hank a lesson once and for all about basic human decency, whether he likes it or not.

REVIEW: FOLK AROUND AND FIND OUT is the second instalment in Penny Reid’s contemporary, adult GOOD FOLK: MODERN FOLKTALES erotic, romance series-a spin off from the author’s WINSTON BROTHERS and KNITTING IN THE CITY series. This is exotic dance club owner Hank Weller, and divorcee/single mother/ teacher’s assistant Charlotte Mitchell’s story line. FOLK AROUND AND FIND OUT can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Some of the characters from the original series cross over for back story and familiarity.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Charlotte and Hank) FOLK AROUND AND FIND OUT follows the building but tempestuous relationship between exotic dance club owner Hank Weller, and divorcee/single mother/ teacher’s assistant Charlotte Mitchell. Charlotte Mitchell need information, and applying to work at The Pink Pony is the perfect outlet for Charlotte’s needs but Charlotte, whose husband left her for a stripper he met at The Pink Pony, has no idea as to what she may be forced to do. Club owner Hank Weller knows only too well that Charlotte’s reputation will be destroyed so he offers her a position as bookkeeper, a position that forces Charlotte into Hank’s orbit. Hank and Charlotte’s reputations is acrimonious at best. Hank believes Charlotte sits in judgement of who he is, and the business he runs but Charlotte’s reasons for disliking Hank stem back years, years in which Hank no longer remembers what happened or why. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Hank and Charlotte, and the potential fall-out when Charlotte’s past returns, demanding everything and more.

Charlotte Mitchell is a single mother of four children under the age of seven, and her life is quickly spiralling out of control. Desperate for information, Charlotte is willing to ‘dance’ at The Pink Pony but getting up close and personal with her high school nemesis isn’t high on the list of Charlotte’s things to do. Hank Weller has no idea why Charlotte Mitchell despises the ground upon which he walks but believes she sits in judgement of his particular line of work. Suspecting Charlotte is not revealing the truth about the who, how and why, Hank offers Charlotte a job, placing our heroine in the direct link of fire.

The relationship between Charlotte and Hank is an enemies to frenemies to lovers in which Hank realizes Charlotte is the woman that calls to his heart but Hank’s lack of a successful relationship has him questioning his life choices going forward including falling for a woman, and her ready made family. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and seductive but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story lines.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and familiar secondary and supporting characters including Jackson and Raquel (Totally Folked 1), Beau and Shelly Winston , Jethro and Sienna Winston (Grin and Beard It 2), Cletus and Jenn Winston (Beard Science 3) as well as Charlotte’s four children, her mother, and exotic dancer turned bookkeeper Hannah.

FOLK AROUND AND FIND OUT is a story of discrimination, judgement, preconceived notions, acceptance and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining, engaging and captivating; the romance is passionate and provocative; the characters are determined and energetic. The epilogue fast forwards the story line fifteen to eighteen years…

My first novel, Unholy Angels was written over a two-year period and, in part, in some very unlikely places such as line-ups at deli-counters and cash registers, and doctor and dentist waiting rooms. While I was out running errands, I jotted down scenes for the story in a notebook I toted around in my purse, and then typed them up when I returned home.

Writing novels is what I have wanted to do since I was ten-years-old and undertook to write a book based on my beloved Nancy Drew mysteries. As I grew older, I continued to read mysteries but I found that as much as I enjoyed attempting to solve the puzzle, I became enthralled whenever a new development occurred in the romantic relationships of the characters. When I thought of writing Unholy Angels, I knew it would have to be a romance.

Of course, my love of mystery and suspense meant that while my characters were finding love, they would also face life-threatening danger.

I live with my husband and daughter. When I’m not writing, or spending time with my family, you can usually find me curled up with a good book, or out shopping for one.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 23, 2022

When Tess nosedives into Ethan, it’s a genuine accident. But when she trespasses? Maybe not so much.

When Tess Williams, a neonatal intensive care unit nurse, finds her fiancé in bed with another woman, she is done with dating. Even if it means she won’t have a family of her own, because trust and honesty are that important to her. Hellbent on avoiding any temptation of the male kind, she makes one devastating mistake: nosediving into the solid chest of a Delta Force operator.

Her second far-reaching mistake? Trespassing.

Ethan Mitchell, only son of a Texas billionaire, joined the Army to turn his life around. Adamant all women are only after money and can’t be trusted, and to keep his past secret, he is only interested in casual flings. Until a stubborn and infuriating five-foot-seven firecracker crashes into him, insisting he is mistaken, and he needs to apologize.

Sure. Like hell he is. And like hell he will.

Ethan may admit he is wrong (about one woman specifically), but will he risk exposing his secrets to keep her in his life? And Tess may give in to the attraction between them, but will she risk her heart for someone who, all too often, is sent on life-threatening missions?

•••••

REVIEW: IRREVOCABLE is the first instalment in AJ Reid’s contemporary, adult GUARDIANS erotic, romance series. This is billionaire/Delta Force operative Ethan Mitchell, and NICU nurse Tess Williams’ story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives IRREVOCABLE follows the turbulent but building romance and relationship between billionaire/Delta Force operative Ethan Mitchell, and NICU nurse Tess Williams. A night out with friends found Tess Williams stumbling into a sexy and brooding but cantankerous man, a man she would meet not once but two more times, several weeks later, where in she would discover our ill-tempered hero is one of her brother’s Delta Force Operatives, and a man who believes women are after him for only his money. A whirlwind affair between Tess and Ethan would end dramatically when Tess catches Ethan with someone else, the end of which Tess will suffer like she had never before. Life as she knows it is about to spiral out of control but Ethan refuses to listen or accept anything Tess has left to offer. What ensues is the building relationship between Ethan and Tess, and the fall-out when Tess walks away, pushing Ethan to close his heart, one final time.

The relationship between Tess and Ethan begins acrimoniously. Ethan believes Tess is a stalker; after his wealth and power; a woman who only sees Ethan as a final payday. Tess, on the other hand, has no idea as to Ethan’s identity, and crossing one another’s paths was nothing more than a coincidence that was about to become something more but Tess doesn’t do ‘army’, having watched from the sidelines as her parents’ marriage imploded. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

We are introduced to Tess’s brother Joshua Williams; fellow Delta Force Operator Hayden Cooper, as well as Tess’s mother, and several co-workers at the hospital.

IRREVOCABLE is a story of mistaken beliefs, accusations and mistrust; jealousy and misunderstand; forgiveness and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing yet heart breaking; the characters are captivating, determined and animated; the romance is seductive but struggles in the face of issues of trust. Saying that, I made every effort to sympathize with our story line hero but his attitude and actions left something to be desired.

I would like to add, I wish there was more insight into the Delta Force operations-most of the missions and events are behind the scenes and off page.

TRC:  Hi AJ and welcome to The Reading Café.Congratulations on the release of IRREVOCABLE.

AJ:  Thank you so much, and for having me today!

TRC:  We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself

Follow: Twitter / Goodreads / Facebook / Amazon Author page / Website

AJ: I’m an Aussie from Perth, Western Australia and am married to a wonderful husband who still makes me laugh after 24 years. We have two boys, 19 and 17 years old, and 3 dogs. We’ve been living in the US for almost 8 years, and our oldest son is starting university beginning of next year. Our baby, who isn’t a baby anymore, just started his senior year. I honestly can’t believe how quickly they’ve grown up. It feels like yesterday when I was sitting next to the pool writing while they had swimming lessons.

TRC:  Who or what influenced your career in writing?

AJ:During a 10-week work trip to the US in 2006, I joined a library when I had finished all the books I had brought with me and came across a Cynster novel by Stephanie Laurens. I couldn’t put it down, or the next one, or the next. When I was done with every Cynster, Bastion Club, and Cobra novel, I decided to try my hand at writing. I’ve never regretted this decision for one moment.

I initially thought I’d write Regency novels, but while I was researching potential historical events as the backdrop for my first book, I stumbled across the Reivers of the English-Scottish borders. I immediately knew I wanted to not only learn more about their turbulent past and history, but also that I wanted to write their stories. I immersed myself into research for almost 2 years before I started writing the first book.

After many years of research, learning the craft of writing, completing the first manuscript, and moving to the US, I needed a break from the past and returned to my other grassroots love, Contemporary Romance. Once I finish the GUARDIANS series, I plan to return to the 16th century border for their Happily Ever Afters.

TRC:  What challenges or difficulties have you encountered writing and publishing your stories?

AJ:Finding time for writing between my professional career, family, and my other interests like reading and traveling. I have a lot of support from my family which helps tremendously.

TRC:  Would you please tell us something about the premise of IRREVOCABLE and the GUARDIANS series?

AJ:Tess is a neonatal intensive care nurse who has gone through several bad breakups. She really wants a family, but after catching her fiancé cheating on her three weeks before their wedding day, she’s done with relationships and decides to have a baby on her own when the time is right.

She’s also dealing with the loss of her Special Forces brother during a classified operation, a dad who has put his Army career ahead of his family, and suspects her only remaining brother has just made Delta Force selection which renews her fears she might lose him too.

Ethan is the only son of a Texas billionaire, and had joined the Army to turn his out-of-control life around. He grew up believing that women are only after his family’s money and can’t be trusted, and is only interested in short-term flings to keep his past buried.

When they meet by accident in the hottest “It” lounge in Dallas, Ethan insists Tess is hitting on him. She doesn’t take being wrongly accused lightly. The second time they encounter each other, all kinds of sparks fly between them, but they assume they can ignore all of that because they are never going to see each other again. Which they of course do!

Every book in the GUARDIANS series take place in Dallas with heroes who are stubborn Delta Force operators and heroines who are NICU nurses with wills of steel. There will also always be horses, dogs, and of course, annoying and interfering family members! The main characters of the subsequent books are introduced in the previous ones, but they can all be read as stand-alone.

I should also mention that I don’t sugarcoat the more realistic aspects of neonatal nursing experiences. Where I can’t draw on my own experience, I make every effort to ensure I handle these very personal and sensitive themes with the utmost care.

TRC:  How many books do you have planned for the series?

AJ:I have 3 books planned for the GUARDIANS series.

TRC:  How do you keep the plot(s) unpredictable without sacrificing content and believability?

AJ:By making sure the motivations and emotions match the characters’ responses to the unexpected and don’t catch readers by surprise. Foreshadowing is also something I like to use to make sure, even though my characters have no clue what’s coming, that my readers are suspecting a little something.

My critique groups and beta readers are also a huge help to keep me on the straight and narrow, and they let me know when something doesn’t work or is confusing or unbelievable.

TRC:  Do you believe the cover image plays a deciding factor for many readers in the process of selecting a book or new series to read?

AJ:Absolutely. Most of the time the cover is the first thing to draw a reader’s attention and should make them want to read the blurb, which should make them want to read the first few pages, and then the rest of the book. They’re all tied together, and each plays a critical role.

TRC:  When writing a storyline, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

AJ:I’ve only once let the characters do the directing, and never again. It was a disaster of epic proportions to sort that plotline out and make sense of things. So these days, I keep them on a short leash!

TRC:  The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writer’s fail in this endeavor?

AJ:It’s key to really understand what the character is going through at that moment. I also consider how I would feel and respond to a similar situation, and then I dig deeper into what the character would feel and respond. There’s a fine balance to ensure the level of detail is appropriate for each scene, otherwise it can completely undo any emotional connection again.

TRC:  Do you listen to music while writing? If so, does the style of music influence the storyline direction? Characters?

AJ:I develop the storyline and characterization first before I compile a playlist, but I don’t always have one. When I do, I listen to the songs while I’m planning the next scene in my head or when I’m driving, and once in a while when I’m writing and am in the mood for music.

This is how I know the hero in the second book of the GUARDIANS series is going to be a handful. I mean, Lady Gaga’s Bad Romance is on that playlist…

TRC:  Many authors bounce ideas and information with other authors or friends and family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

AJ:I have two small, close-knit critique partner groups on Scribophile. We’ve been together for ages and know each other very well. It’s great being able to work with writer-friends who know my writing style, challenge me to take risks, and who I can ask all kinds of questions, anytime. I met some of them in person on a trip to Yellowstone National Park last year, which was fantastic. Yellowstone also lived up to its reputation. It was absolutely stunning!

I’m also part of bigger Scribophile groups where I can get answers for about just anything from doctors, nurses, lawyers, veterans, other Border Reiver gurus, and of course, writing, publishing, and marketing.

TRC:  What do you believe is the biggest misconception people have about authors?

AJ:That most of us write full-time, and writing is our main/only income source.

TRC:  What is something that few, if any people, know about you?

AJ:I absolutely love everything netball, and recently, started to get into American football. I still love Aussie footy rules, too!!

TRC:  On what are you currently working?

AJ:The second book of the GUARDIANS series which I hope to have out early next year.

Do you have any pets?
One Dachshund and two South African boerboels. The boerboel boy is still a puppy which means I’m dedicating a bit of my writing time to teaching the little guy the difference between furniture, shoes, and dog toys. But so far, so good. He’s smart and catching on quickly!

Eighteen-year-old Sara Browne is about to step off a cliff. She is taking a giant leap into the world of college—a normal transition for most—but not for Sara. A car accident that scarred her body and soul—and left her orphaned—has dictated six years of isolation, but that was all in her past. She is ready to leave those dark days behind. Her new goals: make a friend, behave irresponsibly (if she’ll allow herself), and go on an actual date.

The last thing Sara is looking for is a complication, but that is exactly what she finds in the hot, six-foot-three blond named Scott Williams, who she meets at the beginning of the school year. Sara is drawn to Scott in a way that she cannot explain, and he seems just as into her. She wants to trust her heart, but Scott’s promiscuous past keeps creeping into their lives. Jealous ex-girlfriends are one thing, but the stranger who defaces her car, sabotages her laptop, and who sends Sara threatening letters is far worse. Someone is determined to destroy her relationship with Scott and the life Sara is trying so hard to rebuild.

REVIEW: Flickering Heart is book one in the Sara Browne series by Tricia T. Larochelle.

Eighteen year old Sara Browne has just started college at Commonwealth University in Charlottesville, Virginia.

This is a huge leap of faith for her as her body, mind and soul is scarred from losing both of her parents to a car accident at a young age. Sara has spent the last six years after becoming orphaned at the private school, away from everything and everyone she knows. As excited as she is for college she is also very scared as this is her first time navigating life as an adult. Luckily she has made a friend in Amy, her new suite-mate.

Stepping out of her comfort zone Amy and her head to their first tailgate, where things don’t go quite as planned. Having never partied before, Sara gets grabbed from behind and spills her beer on Rachael and her Versace outfit. As Rachael loses her mind on Sara, a six three god – Scott comes to her rescue – telling Rachael to calm down. Sara was pretty sure Scott and Rachael were a thing with the way she saw Rachael touching him earlier. But that wasn’t the case. Not at all.

Scott and Sara start hanging out, and despite all of everyone’s warnings of Scott being a “player”, Sara is interested. They spend more time together and the girls from Scott’s past are not happy about it. Sara starts to receive threatening letters, Vandalized messages on her car and someone poured water on her laptop. Sara begins to realize that someone does not like that she is getting closer to Scott. In a whirlwind of romance, Sara falls quickly for Scott and vice versa. But outside conflicts continue to plague their relationship. Someone really isn’t happy that Sara cares for Scott.

When Sara trusts the wrong person, her life gets turned upside down. She has been drugged and raped. When Scott finds out he wants to kill the person that has done this to his Sara. Scott beats the perpetrator within in an inch of his life. Sara must figure out a way to save Scott from ruining his life and going to jail. She knows exactly what she must do.

But can Sara convince the right people that Scott was only protecting her? And what will happen when to Scott. Will his life be ruined by a rash decision to hurt the person that harmed Sara?

This book was a whirlwind of a first relationship for Sara. With everyone telling her that Scott was a “player” and not to be trusted – she has a hard time trusting his word. When Scott keeps information from Sara it only makes matters worse. But will Sara be able to forgive Scott and move past what has happened to her?

Highly recommend – fast read, twists and turns of a first time relationship. The budding relationship of Sara and Scott was heartwarming. You want nothing but the best for Sara, who has had a rough life.

Looking forward to book two in this series.

(Would add a trigger warning for sexual assault.)

REVIEW: Revive is book two in the Sara Browne series by Tricia T. Larochelle.

This book centers on Sara’s recovery from her sexual assault. It also caters to Sara and Scott’s relationship and rebuilding trust. The onset begins with Sara having nightmares; Scott is there to help her through each one. Scott becomes the most patient and understanding man ever after experiencing the trauma with Sara.

Absolutely loved their relationship!

Sara spends a lot of time contemplating and thinking while trying to recover.   Sara becomes obsessed with a student that went missing last year – Carrie Stevens.  She picks up bits of information here and there and the more she finds out the more she needs to know.   Carrie disappeared without a trace. With soft encouragement from Amy, Sara seeks out counseling for not only the trauma of her sexual assault, but unresolved issues stemming from her parents passing.   (One session left me a crying, blubbering mess – because what a lesson!!)

Each session of counseling helps Sara take steps forward in the right direction. Sara also decides to join a self-defense class to be able to always protect herself.

A press conference from the parents of Carrie Stevens for the one year anniversary of being missing, lends more to Sara’s curiosity.  Sara questions Scott if he knew Carrie and he was quick to answer that he only knew her from the posters that were up around the school.  He also gets upset and tells Sara to let it go and stop pursuing information, which was weird to Sara.  Just when Sara starts to get some answers into what happened to Carrie, her best friend Amy goes missing.

Sara begins to track down the people that she had doubts about with Carrie’s disappearance.   Coming too close to the perpetrator,  Sara finds herself kidnapped also and in a shocking twist it is revealed who has kidnapped them.

Sara does everything in her power to save herself and Amy.  She has lost so much in her life, she wasn’t about to lose her best friend also.  Will she be able to save them both?   And what will Scott do when he finds out Sara is missing.

I read this entire book in one sitting.  It was an amazing second book in an equally wonderful series. Looking forward to the next installment.

Copyright 2022 Tricia T. LaRochelleI pried my laptop from my backpack, powered it up, and typed the words, “Carrie Stevens, Commonwealth University.” Within seconds, several article headlines flashed onto the screen, along with some random pictures below them. None of the women in the photos looked anything like Carrie, so I clicked on an Instagram link instead, where I found a treasure trove of images. The first thing I noticed was Carrie’s short, blue hair and thick makeup. This girl wasn’t the all-American-poster girl I had seen at the press conference at the Student Union Building earlier, although there were similarities: her eye color was the same and her facial structure. I scrolled through a picture of Carrie kissing a guy with greasy, long black hair—a wild party exploding in the background. I found another pic of Carrie holding a shot glass in the air, her eyes bloodshot. The last one I saw included Carrie smoking a tightly wrapped cigarette. I peered closer, maybe not a cigarette.
At that moment, Amy entered through the door. When I didn’t look up, she stopped short.
“What are you doing?” She leaned over my shoulder.
“That’s Carrie Stevens.” I glanced over at Amy. “She looks much different, doesn’t she?”
Amy furrowed her brow. “Who? Oh, you mean the girl who went missing? The one from the press conference?”
I nodded. “Yeah, weird, huh?” I pointed haphazardly over the screen. “It looks like she’s changed a lot since her high school graduation photo was taken. She could be your sister, Amy.”
“Why, because she dyed her hair and put on some makeup?” Amy shrugged, before crossing my room and plopping down on my bed. “She looks better if you ask me.”
“Well … yeah. It’s not a bad look. It’s just different. Do you think they questioned Henry—you know when Carrie went missing?” I turned to look at her.
Amy squinted at me. “Who?”
Oh my God, Amy, how could you forget HIM?
I raised both hands in the air, exasperated. “You know. Henry—the man you were just screaming at.”
Amy’s face opened, showing clarity. She nodded. “Oooooh, you mean, Norman Bates. Yes, I’m sure they did. Why?”

Since she was a little girl, Tricia T. LaRochelle has been obsessed with tragic love stories. No
beach reads for her. Bring on the grit with a double side of turmoil. She likes to feel the character’s anguish as they fight to overcome obstacles to be together. Growing up in central
Vermont, she has seen her share of tragedy but remains a hopeful romantic. She now lives in
central Virginia where she continues to foster the possibilities of how love can conquer all.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 26, 2022

The third and final book in the Walker Security: Lucifer Trilogy…

In the mind-blowing and stunning finale, all will be revealed as Lucifer’s forever with the woman he loves hangs in the balance

•••••

REVIEW LUKE’S REVENGE is the third and final instalment in Lisa Renee Jones’ contemporary, adult LUCIFER’S TRILOGY, erotic, romantic suspense series-a part of the author’s Walker Security world. This is is the continuing story of Walker Security specialist and pilot Luke ‘Lucifer’ Remington, and FBI Agent Ana Banks. LUKE’S REVENGE should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up immediately after the events and cliff hanger of LUKE’S TOUCH aka LUCIFER’S TOUCH.

SOME BACKGROUND: Six years earlier Luke Remington met and fell in love with FBI Agent Ana Banks but life, death, betrayal and vengeance pushed Luke out of Ana’s life, and in the two years since they have been apart, Ana struggles to accept what happened and why. When Luke gets word that he and Ana, as well as several members of his original team are part of a hit list, Luke and the team from Walker Security go in search of the woman he loves, only discover betrayal at the highest level.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Luke and Ana) LUKE’S REVENGE picks up immediately after the events of Luke’s Touch in which Luke and Ana continue to rebuild their fractured relationship, as they search for the truth, and a missing package no one knows anything about. A necessary return to The Ranch, her late father’s sanctuary and training grounds for assassins and elites, Anna and Luke must face the reality that all is not as it appears to be. Struggling to comprehend the how and why of more than one personal betrayal, our couple, with the help of Walker Security, search for the elusive ‘package’, a package that has resulted in the death of many, and the double cross of many more.

The relationship between Luke and Ana continues to rebuild but Ana struggles with what was; what happened, and the possibility of it happening again. Luke knows that Ana is the only woman that can hold his heart but he has to prove to our heroine, she is everything he has ever wanted and more. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include many of the Walker Security team members we have met in previous story lines: Savage, Adam.Parker, and Blake Walker.

LUKE’S REVENGE is a story of power and control, greed and obsession, betrayal and vengeance, forgiveness and family, second chances and love. The premise is dramatic, intriguing and engaging; the romance is seductive and intense; the characters are charismatic and dynamic.

You’re my everything, Ana. You know that, right? I cannot lose you again.”I’d tell him I feel the same. I’d tell him how much I need him and how thankful I am that he’s here now, but I never get the chance. His mouth slants over my mouth. And then he’s kissing me again, and it’s not the tentative, trying-to-hold-back kiss he’d offered me downstairs. No, this kiss is different. It’s possessive, greedy even, a fierce addictive demand of his tongue, that is as seductive as it is impossible to resist. This is what I need. He is what I need right now.

I lean into him, press to my toes, and reach for any and every part of him I can manage to touch. Touching him is as addictive as the kiss and I can’t get enough of his sinewy muscle beneath my hands. I want him naked, but somehow that feels too complicated, and everything is just so damn complicated right now. I slide my hand down the front of his jeans and press my palm to the thick bulge of his erection against his zipper.

A low, gruff sound escapes his lips and he lifts me and carries me toward the bathroom, which I suspect is because the lock on the door of the bedroom is broken and we are about to be naked and not soon enough. He sets me down, his hands sliding under my shirt, his fingers roughly teasing my nipples. I moan against the sensation, and his mouth on my mouth, drinking in the sound, drinking in me. I’ve had moments in my time with Luke when I’ve been desperate for him, but this time is different. This time it feels like everything we are together is on the line and I don’t know why. He is here. I am here. We both want to be here.

Maybe it’s the realization that we were never in control. We never chose to travel the path that divided us. Everyone else did, and one of those people is tied up downstairs. Someone I should be happy to see, but for reasons I can’t explain, that reach deeper than his lies, that’s not what I feel. I don’t know what I feel.

And I’m thinking too much.

Luke handles that though. God does he. He drags my shirt over my head, and my bra is gone in seconds. Already he’s leaning in, suckling my nipples, sending waves of pleasure through me. My fingers dive into his hair, twisting, and not gently. His mouth is not gentle either. He suckles me to the point of pain that is an absolute pleasure. How does he know exactly what to do? How does he get everything so right? My sex clenches, and I am so wet, it’s almost embarrassing, an intense throb between my legs, where I need him nice and hard and buried deep right now. Because that’s what I want. Him inside me. Me lost in every thrust and pump of his body. Lost in him. Connected to him, so much so that there is room for nothing but him. I reach for his pants again, impatient for him, God, I need him. He cups my face and tilts my gaze to his. “Say it, Ana.”
“Which part? I love you or please fuck me?”

His eyes glow with male satisfaction, which I love, as much as I do him. Because that look in his eyes means he’s the kind of animal I need right now. “Fuck me, please,” I repeat.

He kisses me, biting my lips, pinching my nipples and it’s a brutal, sweet perfection. I’m panting when his lips part mine, and he turns me to face the sink forcing me to catch my hands on the counter. I’d complain about not being able to touch him, but he’s touching me, and that makes up for it. His eyes meet mine in the mirror, and he watches me as he plays with my hard, puckered nipples, my teeth worrying my lip, eyes fluttering. But even when they shut, I can feel his hot, hungry stare, feel his lust and desire.
