Join Tristan and Nina one more time and see how their happily ever after turns out.

REVIEW: EVER AFTER is the latest (and final) instalment in KM Scott’s Heart of Stone series focusing on Tristan and (now) Nina Stone. The epilogue dream sequence at the end of book three left the readers wondering if any of Tristan’s dreams really do come true. In EVER AFTER, KM Scott pulls the reader into the real story following the weeks and months after Nina and Tristan’s honeymoon. EVER AFTER is not a stand alone novella and should be read after the final book in the Heart of Stone Trilogy Give In To Me.

The storyline is a mixture of what ifs and dream sequences; anxiety and angst; love and a happily ever after. There are moments where reality will pull the reading into a storyline that will be very familiar to some while others will see a couple struggling with new beginnings and a look to the future with family and friends.

EVER AFTER also drops a small hint at a couple of spinoff series including KM Scott’s new CLUB X –the first book TEMPTATION to be released in July 2014 as well as Jordan (Nina’s BFF) and Gage’s (Stone Security) story HOLD ON MY HEART.

If you are a fan of KM Scott’s Heart of Stone series, you do not want to miss EVER AFTER as the future is now and it is a very busy future-indeed.

GIVE IN TO ME (Heart of Stone #3) by K.M. Scott

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 10, 2014

The third book in the Heart of Stone series concludes the sensual and emotional story of Tristan and Nina that began in Crash Into Me and continued in Fall Into Me…

Tristan Stone has lived a life other men would kill for. Literally. But all the money, women, and fast cars mean nothing to him since Nina came into his life. Danger lurks around every turn with enemies wearing friendly faces. Whatever it takes, he’ll protect the woman he loves because without her, life isn’t worth living.

Nina Edwards had no idea of the world Tristan would give her. All her dreams have come true, but with the good comes the bad, and this world of his has more than enough of that. For love, though, she’ll face not only Tristan’s demons but anyone who stands in her way of finally finding happiness with the man she loves.

ROCK THE BEAT (Black Falcon #3) by Michelle A. Valentine

ABOUT THE BOOK: October 30, 2013

Twenty-year-old Holly Pearson never dreamed that while working at her father’s motocross track she’d run into the walking, talking definition of trouble in a sexy, tattooed package—Trip Douglas, the man sent to evaluate the track for a possible investment opportunity. Holly makes no attempt to hide the fact she despises Trip, but she learns to be civil toward him when he offers to help her land the man of her dreams.

Trip needs a break from the crazy rock-and-roll lifestyle he’s been living for the past few years. With his Black Falcon band mates settling down with marriage and babies, Trip peruses an investment opportunity in motocross, something he’s always been passionate about. Hiding his celebrity status, Trip infiltrates the new business posing as a dirt bike rider training for the X-Games. The only obstacle is the owner’s daughter, Holly. She’s a real ball bustin’ Ice Queen, and she’ll do whatever it takes to make the deal fall through. Trip soon discovers that winning over his new enemy is the key to gaining a partnership in Mountain Time Speed Track.

Knowing he’s the expert on getting laid, Trip ropes Holly into becoming his ally by helping her score a date with the man she’s crushing on. The problem is, the more time Trip and Holly spend together, the more they uncover the undeniable attraction between them. Soon they both realize that even the best laid plans go to hell when you find you’re falling in love with the enemy.

**Book THREE in the Black Falcon series. Can also be read as a stand alone novel.**

•••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: ROCK THE BEAT is the October 2013 instalment in Michelle A Valentine’s contemporary rock genre romance series-Black Falcon. Although this is the third full-length storyline, Rock The Beat can be read as a stand alone but I would recommend reading in order to understand the references and previous storyline characters.

Rock The Beat finds Black Falcon drummer Trip Douglas looking to invest in a moto-cross business during his down time from the band. While Noah and Riff are spending time with their young families, Trip discovers a little gem of a sports venue needing a quick influx of cash and Trip is ready, willing and able. But first, Trip goes in under cover as a representative for the investor hoping to learn the truth behind the business’s current drop in productivity and cash flow. Enter Holly Pearson, the owner’s daughter, and the young woman with whom Trip will fall in love.

The relationship is slow to build as Trip and Holly meet under drunken circumstances and the ensuing days to weeks will find Trip trying to make amends for his initial behavior. But Holly’s heart has been broken by a former love and Trip represents everything that Holly does not want-especially when he has lied about his identity and about whom he actually represents.

The secondary characters are colorful mix including Holly’s best friend Max; her ex boyfriend and her ailing parents. There is definitely a need for a story or novella revolving around Max and one that Michelle has quietly introduced through a letter in the storyline.

There is limited interaction with the previous storyline characters and Black Falcon members until the final few pages of the novel. But saying that, there is also a building story for Trip’s twin Tyke who has been growing restless while the rest of the band members fall in love and take time to smell the roses. If you were looking for a storyline involving music and tours, Rock the Beat takes a different path.

Michelle A Valentine has written a story for Trip that will find the bad boy drummer tamed by a twenty year old woman who has had her fair share of hard times and broken promises. Rock The Beat is a storyline of heartbreak and sorrow; betrayal and redemption; love and letting go. It is also a story with a happily ever after for now and one that I hope will continue into the next instalment.

excerpt

“I’m Trip Douglas. It looks like you and I will be getting cozy while you show me the ins and outs of this place.”

I stare down at his hand. Ugh. This is so not happening to me. Our family business is going down the freaking toilet and I have to depend on the guy who thinks with his dick to pull us out of the hole? Maybe the investor can send someone else? Anyone else! No way is some rich, old dude relying solely on Trip’s judgments of the place to make a huge financial commitment? This guy can’t be trusted with something so important. This guy can’t stick with the same woman for five minutes, let alone see such a huge business deal through.

Trip wiggles his fingers at me. “Come on. They won’t bite.”

Dad needs this partnership to work for the sake of the track. He told me last week how important it was for this business to get it. If it doesn’t go through, we’re in big trouble.

Reluctantly, I take his hand. It’s warm and rough against my own skin and it’s hard not to think about the way he felt pressed against me last night as he gives it a couple of quick shakes.

“Holly Pearson.”

The Secret Brokers by Alexandrea Weis-a review

The Secret Brokers by Alexandrea Weis-a review

THE SECRET BROKERS by Alexandrea Weis

THE SECRET BROKERS is the first storyline (June 2012 release)  in Alexandrea Weis’ s contemporary mystery spinoff series based on her Nicci Beauvoir Series. As this was my first foray into the Alexandrea Weis series of novels, I was slightly lost as to the circumstances that brought our hero Dallas August to the point where he is today. Dallas is former FBI agent who now works in a private capacity uncovering the secrets of the rich and infamous. I had to check out the reviews and author’s blurbs to understand the attitude and persona behind Dallas August-Dallas August is not so squeaky clean and law abiding as one would think. The series takes place between New York City and New Orleans, Louisiana.

The Secret Brokers follows Dallas as he is called in to repay a favor to a crime syndicate boss-to gather information from a competing crime lord’s daughter under the guise of guard and protector-and that information is wanted by everyone connected to the syndicate. While an old man lay dying, his death bed confession was heard by Gwen Marsh-the daughter of a powerful crime lord and one in direct competition with the man who hired Mr. August.

Like many forced encounters, the relationship between Dallas and Gwen Marsh is fraught with anger, secrets and mistrust. Gwen is vehemently opposed to Dallas’s presence and it doesn’t help that he comes with attitude to spare, but Gwen is no wall-flower as Dallas will soon discover. Before taking on his current assignment, Dallas had researched as much as he could regarding Gwen Marsh and her relationship with her family and friends. But as the storyline progressed things did not add up, and the information was in total opposition to the Gwen Marsh he was getting to know. Nothing about the woman matched what he was told. And to complicate matters, her relationship with her father was so stressful that Dallas suspected a bigger family secret.

We are re-introduced to many of the previous storyline principle and secondary characters. There is plenty of information regarding the Nicci Beauvoir affairs including the under cover assignments, presumed deaths and current identification of those once closest to Dallas and his friends. But Dallas is a man with a broken heart and it has taken him months to get where he is today, and on the surface he has not progressed too far. NIcci was once the love of his life but she was murdered and has miraculously returned from the dead with a new identity and her previously dead lover in tow, and Dallas is having a difficult time letting go of the past. But it takes a strong woman like ‘Gwen Marsh’ to uncover the secrets that lay hidden beneath the strong façade and mask of a man like Dallas August.

THE SECRET BROKERS has a plotline filled with twists and mystery, a little bit of sex and whole lot of interesting characters. Now that I have read this particular novel, I will be going back to catch up with the previous storyline and series. I want to know what brought Dallas to where he is today. The man is driven by his past, and his brooding personality pulled me into the storyline. I wanted Dallas to be happy but he was sabotaging any attempt for happiness every time he thought about Nicci and what might have been. Alexandrea writes an amazing story that pulled me in from the very start.

FORBIDDEN (World of the Nightwalkers #1 ) by Jacquelyn Frank

Forbidden (World of the Nightwalkers #1) by Jacquelyn Frank-a review

FORBIDDEN (World of the Nightwalkers #1) by Jacquelyn Frank

FORBIDDEN is the first novel in Jacquelyn Frank’s new spinoff from the World of the Nightwalkers-The Bodywalkers.  The Menes Bodywalkers are a species of beings from ancient Egypt whose soul or spirit remains in the Ether, waiting to cross over and ‘blend’ with another, and like the Nightwalkers, the Bodywalkers are nocturnal.   The Bodywalkers are at their weakest during the blending while the soul and the host merge into one and the dominant personality comes forward.  For a Bodywalker, this is the only way life will begin anew.  But sometimes, the host remains dominant and that causes a series of problems.  Hoping to find a host for their Queen, the Bodywalker’s select Docia Waverly.

Docia Waverly enjoyed life.  Along with her brother Jackson (SWAT Sergeant) they teased and joked. But Jackson had recently suffered a loss and he is all about his sister’s protection since the death of their parents.  And the morning Docia wakes up in the morgue following a fatal push in the Hudson River, her death is only the beginning.  Following a second attempt on her life, Docia discovers there are others who are targeting her and Jackson is powerless to discover whom.

The Bodywalkers have been looking for suitable candidates for their King Menes and his Queen Hatshepsut, and when the prophetess Cleo guided them to an American woman in the nexus of New York, they knew the time had come. Ram, as the Queen’s guide and protector must find the new host and take her into protective custody in Sanctuary before the others discover her identity.  Knowing their Queen is now at her most vulnerable, Ram and the warrior Asikri must protect and defend the woman known as Docia from the faction that decimated them all a century before. But Docia’s blending was taking time and her human personality was trying hard to hold on-she was trying to resist.

Ram and Docia’s relationship began as protector and Queen, but all too soon, their feelings would get caught up in each other, and Ram knew there would be problems when his Queen emerged as the dominant to the host-King Menes was Ram’s best friend, and Ram was falling for the host. But Ram’s host Vincent was also falling for Docia and the stakes were becoming more complicated. With whom had Ram/Vincent fallen in love?

Docia’s easy acceptance of the Bodywalker assimilation was interesting. She had plenty of questions but in her own way she was trying to compare herself to Star Trek and the Borg.  Jacquelyn writes this particular story with many references to modern day media and television. The Bodywalker phenomenon and life-cycle is explained in detail including their ability to seemingly live for thousands of years. Many of the Bodywalker’s are the original rulers of ancient Egypt and in a surprising twist Docia will discover that the war between the ancients and the Templar traitors was directly related to issues of subjugation between Bodywalker and the host.  Even Ram was once a king. But the Templar traitors have problems of their own. And they were willing to go back to war to stop the King and Queen from ascending the throne once again.

There is a secondary storyline as it pertains Jackson Waverly and the precinct psychiatrist Marissa Anderson.  The sexual attraction rolls off both characters until they merge together in a continuous battle of wills. One up-manship never looked so hot. But Jackson’s first concern is the safety and return of his sister, and what he finds is something out of a horror movie. And when he finally finds his sister, it may be too late-for everyone.

Jacquelyn mixes Nightwalkers, Bodywalkers, humans, living gargoyles, dragons, Djynn and humor.  The storyline is fast paced, well written and the character development is smooth as it blends ancient Egyptian rulers with modern day men. Jacquelyn Frank does an amazing job re-writing the myths and legends of Ramses, Cleopatra and other well-known and infamous kings and queens. Another amazing new series from a fantastic author.

For me, the ending was predictable, but then again, I am rarely led astray. So, here’s to two lost souls, finally finding each other, once again.
