Review:

Queen of Myth and Monsters by Scarlett St. Clair is the 2nd book in her Adrian X Isolde series.  The story picks up after King of Battle & Blood, as we return to Cordova, and learning more about Isolde and Adrian; with more heartbreak, steamy romance and betrayal.

Isolde is now the Queen, married to King Adrian, with both learning to rule the kingdom together. Their love for each other continues to grow, even with occasional bickering between them; the chemistry between them was sizzling hot lust for each other and insatiable.

Things become dangerous, as attacks cause worry and dissension among the people, who blame either Adrian or Isolde.  With a traitor still missing, and a witch determined to destroy Revekka and destroy Adrian; Isolde must learn more about the past to move forward. During a spell to help find the witch, one of the main characters is killed, another is unconscious, and Isolde is seriously injured; with decisions made to change her to a Vampire.  Isolde will find that she can shift, which will increase her powers to help join Adrian to fight for their kingdom.  There were a few surprising twists, with two people who were close to them, being traitors.

What follows is an exciting intense adventure, that will pit Adrian and Isolde against the people of Revekka, as well as Isolde determined to go back to Lara and reclaim the throne.  I loved Isolde, as she was a strong fearless badass heroine, who stood up to anyone.  I also loved Adrian, as he loved Isolde, and was patient in waiting for her to discover the truths of the past.

In the last third of the book, everything escalates, including surprises and twists, especially the two traitors. Queen of Myth and Monsters was filled with action, danger, betrayal, revenge, as well as a wild and sexy steamy erotic romance. This was very well written by Scarlett St. Clair, and if you enjoy fantasy, vampires, you should be reading this book.

As it turns out, hiding her weirdness is just one of many challenges. By the end of her first day, she’s claimed the soul of a dead girl on campus and lost the coin. Turns out, the coin gives others the ability to steal souls, and when a classmate ends up dead, there’s no mistaking the murder weapon.

Navigating the loss of her Poppa, her mother’s mistrust, and Roundtable, an anonymous student gossip app threatening to expose her, are hard enough. Now she must find the person who stole her coin before more lives are lost, but that means making herself a target for the Order, an organization that governs the dead on Earth — and they want Anora and her powers for themselves

Review:

When Stars Come Out by Scarlett St. Clair is the first book in her new YA series, When Stars Come Out.  After having finished this book, I was thrilled that this was a new series, as I really enjoyed this book, and its heroine, Anora.

Anora Silby, our heroine, moved to Oklahoma with her mother, after an incident in New York; and now she has a new identity and attends her first day at her new school. Anora can secretly see the dead, and turns their spirits to gold coins that will free their soul move on; she was hoping for a normal life, and on day one she runs into a dead girl on campus.  Anora was able to claim the soul, but she lost the coin, which stops the soul from moving forward, as well as enable someone who finds the coin, to steal other souls. Trying not to be suspicious while meeting new class mates, Anora is worried and determined to find the missing coin.

She meets many of her new classmates, especially the cute Shy, whom she immediately finds herself crushing him.  Shy is friends with Natalie and Jacobi, whom are suspicious of Anora; but she also befriends Lennon, Lily and Thane.  Who can she really trust? When one of her classmates is found dead, Anora knows that someone has found the coin, and is using it to create chaos; she is determined to find the person, and at the same time, learn how to use her growing powers.

We also learn about the Order, who are raven hybrids, in charge of protecting the town. Shy and Natalie begin to suspect that Anora is the Eurydice, who sees the dead and is able to summon open the gates to send them through to the underworld.  Is Anora really the Eurydice?

What follows is an exciting, at times tense story as Anora doesn’t know who to trust, and finds herself facing various creatures, and evil, as she becomes the target.  I really did like when all of sudden hellhounds decided to watch over and protect Anora; there were also witches, occultists, and half human/hybrid evils. When Stars Come Out was a terrific fast paced, exciting YA urban fantasy, with a wonderful heroine, great characters and a slow burn romance. When Stars Come Out was so very well written by Scarlett St. Clair, and I cannot wait for the next book.

A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair – a Review

A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / Google Play / Apple / BAM / Book Depository

Description:
Hades, God of the Dead, does not take sides or bend the rules. He makes no exceptions to these values—not for god or mortal, even his lover, Persephone, Goddess of Spring.

Usually, fear prevents retaliation.

But not this time.

When Hera, Goddess of Women, approaches Hades with a plan to overthrow Zeus, he declines to offer help. As punishment, Hera sentences Hades to perform a series of labors. Each feat seems more impossible than the last and draws his attention away from Persephone—whose own tragedy has left her questioning whether she can be Queen of the Underworld.

Review:

A Game of Retribution by Scarlett St. Clair is the 2nd book in her Hades Saga series. I have read this author recently and loved her latest, but have not read her Hades or Persephone series.  A Game of Retribution, which is based on Greek mythology, did read well, as St. Clair manages to give us enough information to understand. In A Game of Retribution, Hades is the main lead in this story, as it was in his POV; the story does revolve around Hades and Persephone

Hades, the God of Death, rules the Underworld, as the lord who takes care of the all souls; he is selfless, and does not take sides or bend the rules. Hades is desperately in love with Persephone, the chemistry between them is very steamy. Persephone, is sweet, and caring of others, and she knows she has fallen in love with Hades. But though she means well, she doesn’t understand the decisions Hades makes in not helping her take care of friends and others. This causes a few fights, with Hades trying to explain that what she requests is not part of the rules, which he never bends.  Throughout the book, Persephone gets mad a number of times, which caused problems for Hades; as much as knowing she was a good person, I did get annoyed with her.

Hades plans to ask Persephone to marry him and become his Queen; but first he has to deal with Hera, who forces him to do some dangerous deeds, in getting her approval. I liked Hermes and Hecate, as they were not only friends, but also loyal to Hades; a well as him marrying Persephone. Hades and people, learn about an ancient relic that is lost, with a group secretly planning to cause a possible war. Hades must find out who will side with him. I expect the next book will be the start of the war to come between gods, monsters, demigods, and mortals.

A Game of Retribution was very well written by Scarlett St. Clair.  I enjoyed the book, but I may have liked it even better had a read some of the previous books.

Review:

King of Battle and Blood by Scarlett St Clair is the first book in her new Adrian X Isolde series.  King of Battle and Blood is an intense and steamy sexy romance between an unlikely couple (human and vampire) that were enemies to lovers.

Isolde de Lara, our heroine, is a princess of Lara, who loves her land, which she will one day become Queen. She is strong, tough, independent, savvy, and an excellent swordswoman; especially her ability to use knives.  In the past year, the Blood King has attacked many of the other lands (The Nine Kingdoms), to take over control, and now they are approaching her kingdom.

Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, our vampire hero, is known as the Blood King, and after accidently meeting Isolde in the woods, he is obsessed with her, which we will learn more towards the end. Adrian approaches the king (Isolde’s father), and asks for her hand in marriage, promising he will not attack their kingdom.  Isolde being human, hates the vampires and Adrian, but despite her father’s denial, Isolde agrees to marry Adrian, in order to save their country.

After the wedding ceremony, she will travel to Revekka, the Red Palace, Adrian’s kingdom, to become its queen. The relationship between Adrian and Isolde becomes very steamy, as despite her hatred for him, she cannot resist him, nor he resists her.  The chemistry between them was sizzling hot lust for each other and insatiable.  During their travel to his kingdom, and upon arriving, Isolde will learn more about the kingdom and truths about the vampires, which was not how she was brought up.

What follows is an exciting adventure, that will pit Adrian and Isolde against his ruthless court, who are determined to stop him, even to the point of killing Isolde.  Isolde finds herself falling in love with Adrian, especially after learning the truths of the past and what made Adrian choose her to be his Queen; but she knows the pressure from her father to kill Adrian. The more she learns, the more she distrusts her father and the kingdoms.  I loved Isolde, as she was a strong fearless badass heroine, who stood up to anyone.  I also loved Adrian, as he loved Isolde, and was patient in waiting for her to discover the truths of the past.

As we enter the last third of the book, everything escalates, including an evil witch from the past, who is hell bent to destroy everyone.  So many surprises and twists that made the ending so phenomenal.  King of Battle & Blood was a sexy steamy erotic, and fast-paced story that kept me on the edge of my seat.  This was very well written by Scarlett St Clair, and if you enjoy fantasy, vampires, you should be reading this book.
