REVIEW: JUST WHAT I NEEDED is instalment 4.9 and novella in Kylie Scott’s contemporary, adult STAGE DIVE erotic, rock romance series, and a part of the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is Ev and David Ferris’, twenty-five year old nanny Jude, and record producer Dean Jennings’ story line. JUST WHAT I NEEDED can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from first person perspective (Jude) JUST WHAT I NEEDED follows the building romance and relationship between Ev and David Ferris’, twenty-five year old nanny Jude, and record producer Dean Jennings. Jude works as the nanny to Ev and David’s nine-month old son Jamesy, and lives in the guest house on the Ferris property. With the arrival of music producer Dean Jennings, Jude never expected a temporary roommate much less a nudge from the wives of the Stage Dive rockers. Hoping for an instant connection, Ev, Lena and Anne push Dean and Jude together but Jude’s past is hoping for something more, and Jude’s secrets reveal the embarrassment of a one-time crush on someone they all know. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Jude and Dean, as our couple must come to terms with Dean’s transient lifestyle, on the road more than he is home.

The relationship between Jude and Dean is one of immediate attraction but Jude struggles in the wake of Dean’s fame and his proximity to our story line heroine. Dean knows immediately he wants to make an effort with our story line heroine but instant attraction does not always make for perfect bedfellows. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters include band members: Mal and Anne, Ev and David, Lena and Jimmy, as well as Dean’s ex-girlfriend Frankie.

JUST WHAT I NEEDED is a fast paced, quick read that sees another couple fall madly in love. The premise is heart warming and sensual; the characters are spirited and sassy; the romance is tender and provocative.

I smile. I have a lot to smile about. He likes me. We’re doing this. How exciting.
He leans forward. “Can I kiss you, Jude?” he whispers.
I feel those words in every part of me. “Yeah.” I lick my lips. “You can.”
As pretty as he was at a distance, he’s even more handsome close up. All of the shadows and lines of his face. It blows my mind how Lena left him for another. What a fool. Though I am kind of deeply grateful that she did. His lips are divine. No other word will do. And the thought of him pressing them against mine is making my stomach do a weird flip-flop thing. His lips are neither thin nor plump, but somewhere in between and perfect. I stare at them as he comes closer until he’s pressing his mouth softly against mine.
A sweet kiss, as if he’s testing his welcome. The man needn’t have bothered. I balance on the balls of my feet and join our lips once more, kissing him more insistently. I mean, we might as well figure out here and now if we have no chemistry. If he has no expertise. Because I kissed this male model once who was a tongue-wrangling disaster. Just a whole lot of wet-faced yuck. Sad, but true. It’s not like I have kissed anyone in ages. Maybe I’ve forgotten how it all works. Perhaps I’ll be the disaster.
Dean’s hands grip my hips, and his tongue slips into my mouth and oh, yeah. Very nice. A lack of chemistry is obviously not going to be a problem between us. He kisses me deep and wet in a way that goes straight to my head. My fingers slide over the smooth warm skin of his shoulders before holding on tight. He is so solid and strong. One of his hands is now cupping the back of my head, holding me to him. As if I had any intention of leaving. Heck no. We kiss until my lips are numb and swollen and my mind is far away. Nothing else matters but this moment.
He leans his forehead against mine, and we both take a moment to catch our breath. As first kisses go, it was stellar. My empty stomach, however, shows no cool and rumbles loudly. Talk about keeping it real.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 9, 2021

It all started in Vegas…

After a wild and tumultuous beginning to their relationship, Evelyn Thomas and her rock star husband David Ferris have been happily married for years. Nothing needs to change, their life together is perfect. Which means that change in the shape of an unexpected pregnancy is bound to shake things up some. But could it be for the better?

REVIEW:THE RYHTHM METHOD is instalment 4.8 in Kylie Scott’s contemporary, adult STAGE DIVE rock star, romance series, and the last instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. THE RHYTHM METHOD is the continuing story of lead singer for Stage Dive David Ferris, and his wife Evelyn. THE RHYTHM METHOD can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order,or at the very least LICK where David and Evelyn’s story begins.

Told from first person perspective (Evelyn) THE RHYTHM METHOD focuses on the unexpected pregnancy and delivery of David and Evelyn’s first child, a pregnancy of which no one knew. Both shocked and excited, David and Evelyn struggle in the early days following the birth of their son, so much so, that their happiness is threatened when David is unable to except the changes that are about to unfold.

THE RHYTHM METHOD reunites most of the previous story line couples, including all of the members of Stage Dive, and their significant others. Kylie Scott pulls the reader into a shocking revelation, not only for the fans, but for the story line couple, as well. David Ferris and Stage Dive are a world-wide phenomenon, and our hero struggles in the face of new responsibilities, and having to share the woman he loves with someone else. The premise is emotional; the romance is passionate; the characters are familiar and captivating-always a fun time with Mal.

“In about five years,” he agreed, taking a swig from his bottle of beer. Because you could take the rock star to Paris and dress him in a three-piece suit, but he still wouldn’t be sipping champagne. Thank you very much.
“That’s the plan,” I said.
“And you do like your plans.”
The man was right about that. Some people could go through life flying by the seat of their pants. Content to not know what would happen next. I was not one of those people. I both knew and accepted this about myself. Know thyself and all that. Lists were my friends. Neatly ordered inventories of anything and everything going on in my life. Places to be. Things to do. Targets to be achieved at work. Planning was how I gave shape and context to my existence which in turn helped me live life to the fullest. Not that I didn’t mind taking a walk on the wild side now and then. I had woken up in Vegas married to a rock star, after all. But being organized was where I thrived. It was my happy place.
“I say we enjoy ourselves while we can.” His fingers crept beneath my long blonde hair to rub my neck. Guitarists’ hands were wonderful things. So much strength and dexterity. Not to mention the creativity.
I raised a brow. “Are you talking about the bathroom again?”
“The way I figure it, this suite has four rooms,” he said, voice low and husky. Sexy as fuck. My panties grew damper with every word he whispered. “The bedroom, bathroom, dining room, and this formal parlor or whatever the hell the butler called it. Now, given how much we’re paying per night, it would be wrong of us to not make the most of the place.”
“Oh.”

There’s always the one that got away. Or kicked you out…

The new darling of rock n’ roll, Adam Dillon, is ready to show his ex-girlfriend, Jill Schwartz, what a mistake she made kicking him to the curb. So maybe he wasn’t the best of boyfriends. Writing great songs and climbing to the top of the charts isn’t easy. Only problem is, he’s fast finding out that success isn’t everything.

REVIEW:LOVE SONG is a contemporary, adult, erotic rock romance novella in Kylie Scott’s STAGE DIVE series, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights. This is rock star Adam Dillon, and hair stylist Jill Schwartz’s story line. LOVE SONG can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Several of the Stage Dive members make cameo appearance for familiarity.

Told from first person point of view (Jill Schwartz) LOVE SONG follows the second chance romance between rock star Adam Dillon and hair stylist Jill Schwartz. One year earlier Jill Schwartz, tired of Adam’s antics and lack of commitment kicked Adam out with a heavy heart. Fast forward to present day whererin Adam, about to head out on his first world tour, comes face to face with his past, an angry but determined Jill Schwartz. What ensues is the quick rebuilding romance and relationship between Adam and Jill, and the potential fall-out as their time together quickly comes to a close.

Breaking up with Jill was both the best and worst things to happen to our story line hero. Writing an entire album focusing on the breakdown of their relationship pushed Adam Dillon to the top of the charts but said songs only revealed one side of their breakup, making Jill persona-non-grata in the eyes of Adam’s fans and music followers. Jill Schwartz struggled in the year after kicking Adam Dillon to the curb but a surprise ‘gift’ from the man that she loved forced Jill to confront all of her old feelings and her attraction to our story line hero.

The relationship between Adam and Jill is one of second chances; a rekindling romance that looks at success in the face of loss; regret, loneliness and love. The fast paced premise is entertaining and captivating; the romance is steamy and provocative; the characters are familiar, energetic, and fun (aka Mal). LOVE SONG is a quick read that revisits all of the Stage Dive couples -a welcome and anticipated return to the world of Kylie Scott’s rock stars and romance.

••••••••

REVIEW: CLOSER by Kylie Scott is instalment 4.6 in the author’s contemporary, adult STAGE DIVE rock romance series focusing in the members of the rock band Stage Dive, and the latest addition to the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights. This is security specialist (aka executive protection officer) and former military man Ziggy Thayer, and model Mae Cooper’s story line. CLOSER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from first person point of view (Mae Cooper) CLOSER follows the building relationship between security specialist (aka executive protection officer) and former military man Ziggy Thayer, and model Mae Cooper. Mae Cooper has a stalker whose ‘gifts’ have become more menacing and threatening. Living in the same secure building as the members of the band Stage Dive, at the suggestion of Lena Ferris, Mae is about to face her future in the guise of a personal bodyguard. Enter executive protection officer Ziggy Thayer, and the man with whom Mae will fall in love. What ensues is the building relationship and romance between Mae and Ziggy, and the potential fall-out as Mae’s past collides with her present and her future.

Ziggy Thayer doesn’t do relationships but falling for a client could mean the end of his career. Trying to keep their relationship professional Ziggy fails miserably as his attraction to Mae grows with each encounter. Mae Cooper suspects someone from her past is desperate to destroy her life but ‘living’ with Ziggy Thayer gives Mae the opportunity to explore something new, something she is hoping will turn into her happily ever after.

The relationship between Mae and Ziggy is one of immediate attraction but Mae doesn’t think she needs protection as Ziggy goes above and beyond to protect the woman with whom he will fall in love. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters included cameo appearances by some of the members of the rock band Stage Dive, as well we their significant others. CLOSER does not focus on the band but on their extended group of friends and acquaintances.

CLOSER is a quick read; a story of betrayal and obsession; of second chances and falling in love. The premise is fast paced and engaging; the characters are colorful and energetic; the romance is seductive but I struggled with the lack of palpable sexual attraction-I didn’t feel the raw and intense desire that I have come to expect from Kylie Scott.

“Your keys and security alarm code please, miss?” he asked, hand held out waiting.
It might have just been me, but we seemed to be standing awfully close together. It almost seemed weirdly intimate. Almost. No, my bad. Ziggy wore his usual professional façade with nary a hint of emotion on display. His gaze was shuttered, his bearing military rigid. It was definitely just me and my overactive imagination. Being vaguely attracted to your bodyguard was kind of a pain in the ass. Not that I couldn’t use the distraction right now.
Ziggy continued to stand there patiently waiting.
“Keys. Right.” I rummaged inside my Balenciaga City bag. Designer goodies were not only a weakness of mine, but a happy perk of being in the industry and achieving some small fame. “Ah, just a minute. They’re in here somewhere.”
I pushed aside my purse, a cashmere shawl, tampons, a candy bar, some loose change, my small Chanel cosmetics case, a power bank, hair ties, pepper spray, a copy of the latest Sarah MacLean book, mints, a spare charging cable for my cell phone, the cell phone itself, Chapstick, Prada sunglasses case, my grandma’s rosary, dental floss, deodorant, a couple of pens, Kleenex, ear buds, water bottle, a USB stick, reusable straw, condoms, nail file, some old receipts, a travel size umbrella, hand sanitizer, lotion, a pair of pearl earrings, tweezers, Advil, a hair band, and some bobby pins.
“Sorry about this,” I murmured. “I know I put them in here when we left.”
He said nothing. A whole lot of nothing.
“Huh.” With a great sense of victory, I held up a bottle of nail polish. “I thought I’d lost this.”
One of his dark brows crept upwards.
“I’ll have you know this color was limited edition. Little Death at Midnight by Oxley. You can’t buy it anymore.”
His lips did not move, but that damn eyebrow arched even higher as he leaned forward a little and took in the contents of my bag. I swear his eyes widened.
“Don’t you judge me. All of these things are necessary for my ongoing existence.”
“Of course they are, miss.” The man was so judging me. Bastard. “You carry a koozie around with you, I see.”
“It pays to be ready to party, Mr. Thayer.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date September 25, 2018

When the girl of your dreams is kind of a nightmare.

As head of security to Stage Dive, one of the biggest rock bands in the world, Sam Knowles has plenty of experience dealing with trouble. But spoilt brat Martha Nicholson just might be the worst thing he’s ever encountered. The beautiful troublemaker claims to have reformed, but Sam knows better than to think with what’s in his pants. Unfortunately, it’s not so easy to make his heart fall into line.

Martha’s had her sights on the seriously built bodyguard for years. Quiet and conservative, he’s not even remotely her type. So why the hell can’t she get him out of her mind? There’s more to her than the Louboutin wearing party-girl of previous years, however. Maybe it’s time to let him in on that fact and deal with this thing between them.

•••••••••

REVIEW: STRONG is a contemporary, adult, erotic, romance in Kylie Scott’s rock band series STAGE DIVE, and the latest instalment in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights. This is security expert Sam Knowles, and PA Martha Nicholson’s story line. Martha is Ben Nicholson’s sister (Deep #4), and Dave Ferris (Lick #1) former love interest. You do not have to have read the previous instalments but I recommend reading book one LICK for backstory and history between Martha and the band.

Told from first person point of view (Martha) STRONG follows the building relationship between security expert Sam Knowles, and Martha Nicholson. Years earlier, following the fall-out of her personal and professional relationship with Stage Dive’s lead singer and guitarist David Ferris, Martha Nicholson headed to New York in an effort to find herself and forget about the man with whom she was once in love. With a reputation as a b*tch with a little crazy on the side, Martha tried to establish herself with little success. Fast forward to present day wherein Martha is tasked with ‘babysitting’ her brother Ben’s (Stage Dive’s bassist) rambunctious two–year old son Gibson, a task that brings her face to face with the man that has starred in her fantasies and dreams for close to ten years. Enter Stage Dive’s head of security Sam Knowles, and the man with whom Martha will fall in love. What ensues is the friends to lovers relationship between Martha and Sam, a relationship in the making for close to a decade, and the potential fall-out as Martha struggles to accept everything Sam has to offer, including his heart.

Martha Nicholson was David Ferris’ high school sweetheart, and lost everything when David married Evelyn Thomas. Desperate to recapture what was, Martha attempted to come between David and Evelyn but found herself on the outside looking in. Sam Knowles watched from afar as Martha’s life imploded when she interfered in the lives of the band. For ten years Sam waited for Martha to realize there was someone else hoping to capture her heart.

The romance between Martha and Sam has been developing for close to ten years but Martha struggled with demons from the past, including a reputation that had once sought out to destroy the members of the band. Desperate to prove he was worthy of Martha’s love, the wives of the band, set into motion a plan for Sam to seduce our story line heroine. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate.

All of the previous story line couples and members of the band play secondary and supporting characters. Mal is his usual, hyper-manic self as he pushes our heroine’s buttons on more than one occasion- the back and forth banter is priceless; and Gibson Nicholson aka Gibby, as he runs amok repeating all of the ‘forbidden’ words in a two-year old’s vocabulary.

STRONG is a quick read; a revisit with our favorite rock band and their families, as well as the introduction of an up and coming star Adam, whom Martha is about to take under her wing. Here’s hoping for another spin-off focusing on Adam and his rise to the top. The character driven premise is spicy, engaging and spirited; the romance is moving and provocative; the characters are sexy, sassy and sweet. STRONG is a welcome addition and energetic instalment in Kylie Scott’s STAGE DIVE series.

“Ooh, busted,” said Lizzy. “The bodyguard caught you looking.”
“Shut it.” I inched my chin up a bit, trying not to frown because frowning gave you lines. “Sam and I have known each other for years and nothing has ever happened. You’re completely wrong about this.”
“Am I?”
“Yes, there’s nothing between us.”
“So that’s why you were staring at him?”
I chose not to answer that. “And you know he prefers to be called executive protection officer instead of bodyguard.”
At this, Lizzy burst out giggling, a malicious glee in her eyes. No wonder I liked my sister-in-law these days.
Ben shot us both an irritated glance. We both ignored it.
Of course, I’d known Sam would probably be here. Rock stars going out in public could be a delicate thing. People had a tendency to get overexcited. And while one person wanting an autograph wasn’t a problem, twenty or thirty of them suddenly swarming definitely could be. Having once been part of the entourage, I’d seen it happen to Ben and his fellow Stage Dive band members enough times to be wary. And you couldn’t get by with ordinary security. Rock stars needed protection from their over-zealous fans, but on the other hand they didn’t want the fans roughed up or hurt in any way. It required a delicate balance: control, experience, and a whole gamut of scary physical skills. Hence Sam.
Still, Portland seemed generally less crazy than the good old days back in LA. All of the guys seemed calmer and more settled away from the constant craziness of the party scene. Not to mention the effect of all of the wives/partners and various offspring. The biggest rock band in the world had officially been domesticated.
It was kind of cute. Or sad. I don’t know.
“Sorry, I didn’t mean to stir you,” she lied. “What do you think of your brother’s new musical bromance?”
On the small stage set up in the corner of the room, a young man wailed his heart out while playing an acoustic guitar. Much angst about a girl who only called him after midnight. Trust a rockster to turn a simple booty call into a heartbreaking ballad. The song was damn good though. He had talent. If only I hadn’t had my fill of the type when I was younger. The kid looked to be in his early to mid-twenties. Lanky with lots of tattoos. Your typical rock ’n roll Prince Charming. Gag. These days my type ran more toward…actually, what I needed or wanted in a male was a total mystery.
And my gaze did not stray back to Sam. That did not happen.

She’s his best friend’s little sister now, and no matter how hot the chemistry is between them, no matter how sweet and sexy she is, he’s not going to go there. But when Ben is forced to keep the one girl he’s always had a weakness for out of trouble in Sin City, he quickly learns that what happens in Vegas, doesn’t always stay there. Now he and Lizzie are connected in the deepest way possible…but will it lead to a connection of the heart?

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: 4.5 stars– DEEP is the fourth and final installment in Kylie Scott’s adult, contemporary Stage Dive erotic romance series focusing on the members of the rock band Stage Dive and the women that they love. This is bassist Ben Nicholson and psychology student Lizzy Rollin’s storyline. We were first introduced to Lizzy in PLAY (Stage Dive #2) –Mal and Anne’s story. Lizzy is Anne’s younger sister and Mal is very protective of those he considers family.

Told from first person POV (Lizzy) the focus of the storyline is Ben and Lizzy’s relationship- a friends to lovers story that finds our couple at odds with one another’s current direction in life. A one-night stand weeks earlier in Vegas has resulted in more than a broken heart for Lizzy, Ben doesn’t do relationships; doesn’t do love; in fact Ben wants nothing to do with anything permanent-at all. He is a bit of a manwhore whose reputation has preceded Lizzy and Ben’s one-night stand-a night that neither one will ever forget. Ben continues to offer friendship in lieu of everlasting love.

Ben has always been a bit of an enigma throughout the series. Very little information, background or history surrounding Ben’s relationship with the band or his sister was ever revealed. He was always watching and waiting; or going in another direction; working on something by himself . Ben’s involvement in the series has been limited and with that comes the unknown factor as to the who, how and why! His attraction to Lizzy is immediate; their futures are tied together but his disinterest was heartbreaking and at times, cruel. There is plenty of push and pull between out leading characters; a roller coaster relationship with not enough highs and too many lows.

The storyline initially travels between past and present using memories, flashbacks and text messages-texting that began in LEAD (Book 3) but it was never revealed with whom Ben was talking. The current story begins a couple of months after Mal and Anne’s Las Vegas wedding where Ben had hooked up with Mal’s new sister in law. Ben had already been warned by Mal not to make any advances towards Lizzy but for months Lizzy and Ben have had a virtual relationship through texts and emails. What ensues is a night of sexy fun that Lizzy will remember for a lifetime.

All of the previous storyline couples-David and Evelyn/Mal and Anne/Jimmy and Lena play a significant role throughout the novel where we get a glimpse at the band’s struggles to keep peace amongst themselves. Ben’s sister Martha (Lick #1) returns to wreak havoc on everyone’s lives and with it comes the possibility of a storyline of her own. The introduction of several potential new love interests has piqued this reader’s interest. We are also reintroduced to sexy bassist Vaughn whose own reputation with the women needs no further explanation-Vaughn is a member of the warm up band Down Fourth. Stage Dive’s quiet and unassuming security guard/driver Sam has revealed that there is someone he has been admiring from afar. Their stories and loves will be revealed in Kylie Scott’s spinoff series -DIVE BAR.

The world building continues to follow the band-behind the scenes, on stage, and on the road. Relationships are difficult; friendships are divided; lovers become jealous and unsure. Things are about to change for the members of Stage Dive and the epilogue fast forwards the series several months where we get a glimpse at what life has in store. Mal is still my favorite drummer !!

Kylie Scott’s storylines are passionate, intense and addicting. Her characters are real; heartbreaking; funny and insane….Mal Ericson anyone ?? DEEP may be the conclusion to Kylie’s STAGE DIVE series but the characters and their stories will remain forever as one of my favorite rock music series.

“C’mon. How have you been, really? What’s been going on with you?” he pushed. I frowned at him and he frowned right back. “Liz, please.”
I groaned in defeat. “All right, I suck.”
“Why do you suck?”
“So very many reasons.” I pushed my hair back from my face—no more hiding. “Pregnancy sucks. It’s natural, my ass. I finally stop throwing up, but I’m tired all the time. Giving up coffee was horrendous. None of my clothes fit right because of these stupid breasts, and they ache constantly. I have to pee like every thirty seconds, and then to top it off, I cry every time the Healthy Hound ad comes on. It’s ridiculous”
Little wrinkles appeared either side of his nose. “You cry at a dog food ad?”
“Yes. The puppies jump all over each other to get to their mother and it’s just so beautiful, with their cute little tails wagging and everything.”
He just stared at me.
“I know its psycho, Ben. Believe me, I’m well aware of this.”
“Hey, it’s fine.” He covered a smile with his hand. Too late, the bastard.
“You try dealing with all these hormones going apeshit. Crap. Apeshoot.”
“Apeshoot?”
“I’m trying not to swear,” I explained. “You want the first word our child comes out with to be something bad?”
“No. Gotcha.” The man was incredibly bad at hiding a grin. “No swearing.”

Waking up in Vegas was never meant to be like this.

Evelyn Thomas’s plans for celebrating her twenty-first birthday in Las Vegas were big. Huge. But she sure as hell never meant to wake up on the bathroom floor with a hangover to rival the black plague, a very attractive half-naked tattooed man, and a diamond on her finger large enough to scare King Kong. Now if she could just remember how it all happened.

One thing is for certain, being married to rock and roll’s favourite son is sure to be a wild ride.

Anne Rollins never thought she’d ever meet the rock god who plastered her teenage bedroom walls—especially not under these circumstances. Anne has money problems. Big ones. But being paid to play the pretend girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer couldn’t end well. No matter how hot he is. Or could it?

REVIEW: LEAD is the third instalment in Kylie Scott’s adult, contemporary Stage Dive erotic romance series focusing on the member of the rock group Stage Dive. This is lead singer Jimmy Ferris and assistant/companion Lena Morrissey’ storyline.

Jimmy is in need of a baby sitter following his latest release from rehab. The temptations on the road and behind the scenes are too much and his friends want to ensure that Jimmy stays clean and sober-enter Lena Morrissey- an office secretary who has been pulled into the nightmare that is Jimmy Ferris. With his brash and self-centred attitude Jimmy isn’t the easiest person with whom to live but Lena makes every effort to keep Jimmy clean. From late night movies to companionable silence, Lena will slowly work her magic on a man who has never known love or acceptance.

The relationship between Lena and Jimmy is slow to build as they play around one another for a good portion of the story. Jimmy is a man haunted by his past; the childhood that was all but destroyed by an alcoholic mother and in this Jimmy wants nothing to do with falling in love or a permanent relationship. As the friendship between our leading couple grows, so too does Lena’s love for Jimmy-a love that will never be reciprocated.

The humorous banter continues throughout the series with drummer Mal’s manic repartee as well as the one on one interaction between Jimmy and Lena. Kylie Scott does a fantastic job pulling the reader into the storyline with her use of humor, sarcasm, heartbreak, and all too familiar feel of an emotional roller coaster ride. Jimmy is man whose life has been hard-from an abusive childhood to addiction and the fall out of a PR disaster aiming to take him down, he is a man hiding behind the façade of a rock star whose very nature pushes everyone away-a little bit at a time.

The secondary characters include all of the members of Stage Dive as well as their girlfriends and lovers. We get reacquainted with David and Evelyn: Mal and Anne; as well as a hint of what’s to come with guitarist Ben. The interaction between the members of Stage Dive with one another is colorful, frenetic and funny.

LEAD is a heartbreaking and emotional storyline where we get up close and personal with the infamy of Jimmy Ferris. I did shed a tear or two so be forewarned to have some tissues on hand. Stage Dive is a provocative and captivating series where the drama of being in the spotlight hides a world of secrets and bitter truths. Kylie Scott writes with a startling realism and an intensity that will pull you in and never let go.

excerpt

“Lena, you seen my old black Led Zep shirt?”
“Nope.”
“You sure?” His brows became one dark cranky line. The scratches on his face were healing well, thank goodness. Though it didn’t reduce my desire to throttle his mother on a daily basis.
“Yes. I haven’t seen it.”
Can’t find it anywhere…”
“And this is a surprise, how?” I slipped my hands into my back jean’s pockets. “Jimmy, you own more clothing than Cher, Brittney, and Elvis, put together. Things are bound to go missing.”
“Sure you haven’t seen it?”
“For goodness sake, what do you think, Jimmy? That I stole it to sleep in or something?” I laughed bitterly. Sure as hell, the truth deserved a good mocking. I’d sunk so despicably low.
I hadn’t even meant to steal the stupid thing, but the shirt had been mixed up with my laundry a few days ago. It’d been the first top I laid my hand on after stepping out of the shower, ready to go to bed. Without thought, I’d put it on and it’d been so soft, the scent of him lingering beneath the laundry detergent. Every night since, I’d found myself in it come bedtime. My shame knew no limits. And no, I still hadn’t quit. The words still hadn’t come even close to leaving my mouth.
He frowned. “No.”
“That I have some deep secret longing to feel close to you resulting in my stealing your shirt like some creepy perv?”
“Course I don’t fucking think that,” he replied crankily, reaching up to grip the top of the doorframe. All of his bulging muscles stretched the arms of his white T-shirt in the nicest way. It was all I could do not to start drooling, my heart beat taking up residence somewhere down between my thighs. And who could blame it? Not me. Maybe if I got laid, this would go away and things would return to normal. It’d seemed safer to avoid rubbing up against any men just in case I got carried away and started dating again. This new situation, however, changed everything.
“Well, of course not! That would be crazy.” And wasn’t that the god’s honest truth? Cray-zeee. Lock me up and throw away the key because it wasn’t like I didn’t know better.
“Just can’t figure out where the hell it could be.”
Angels couldn’t have smiled as innocently. They might have tried, but they would have failed, the dirty-mouthed, winged, little liars. “Jimmy, I don’t know where it is. But I’ll look around for it later, okay?”
“Yeah,” he said, and then added as an afterthought, “and stop looking at me weird.”
“I’m not!”

REVIEW: PLAY is the second instalment in Kylie Scott’s contemporary, adult, erotic Stage Dive series focusing on the members of the rock bank Stage Dive and the women they love. This is Stage Dive’s sexy and off the wall drummer Mal Ericson and twenty three year old book store clerk Anne Rollins’s story. Although we had not been previously introduced to Anne, she is Evelyn Ferris’s former neighbor-Ev married Stage Dive’s lead guitarist David Ferris in book one LICK.

Told from Anne’s first person point of view the storyline focuses on Mal and Anne’s very new relationship. Our couple meet at a party at David and Evelyn’s condo where Mal is immediately drawn to Anne. Mal is a man who possesses the smooth charm and even smoother tongue to make any woman swoon but it is hyper active/manic personality that draws people like a moth to a flame. A sexy drummer with a reputation for one night stands, Anne isn’t fooled by Mal’s charm-there is something sad hiding behind Mal’s comedic façade-a sadness that Anne recognizes only too well. Mal and Anne’s relationship is a very-quick friends to lovers storyline that is incredibly hot, intimate and intense.

Anne will remind many readers about themselves or someone that they know-she has been taken advantage of time and again-from her boss to her former roommate Anne’s life is currently defined by the number of times she has been screwed by the people that she trusts. In this, our couple’s story will begin when Mal makes her an offer that she could not refuse because Mal isn’t accepting anything less. Anne is about to lose her apartment and Mal offers himself up to be her new roommate.

The world building continues from the introductory storyline LICK where we were first introduced to the volatile and troubled members of Stage Dive. Most of the previous storyline characters play a secondary role including David’s brother Jimmy and guitarist Ben; Evelyn’s brother Nate; and her BFF Lauren. As the band members prepare for their upcoming tour, Mal’s world begins to fall apart and he takes his frustrations out on everyone around. The boys of Stage Dive are fallible, human and not without their own demons and manic histories. These are the stories of real people or your next door neighbors or even your family and friends.

Kyle Scott pulls the reader into a compelling and sometimes heartbreaking storyline that is driven by Mal’s sense of humor, sarcasm and playful attitude but the humor is hiding a pain that is changing his world one day at a time. He is a man in a world of hurt and refuses to let anyone in on the sorrow that is destroying his less than orderly world. Stage Dive is an addicting series that will captivate your imagination when you come center stage in the gritty and sometimes revealing world (behind the scenes) of rock and roll. PLAY is not as angst driven as LICK, but it is a storyline that will pull you in –none the less.
