Review:

Wolf Hunger by Paige Tyler is the 7th book in her wonderful SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) series. As always with Tyler, she continues to give us exciting, fun, pulse pounding action, hot alpha werewolves and a great sexy couple.

Max Lowry, one of the younger members of the SWAT  team and our hero, is in a bar with his friends when he scents another wolf.  He sees a beautiful woman, and knows she could be the ‘one’ (his mate).
Lana Mason, our heroine, is the daughter of Deputy Chief Hal Mason, who does not want her anywhere near the men of the SWAT team. Lana and Max hit it off immediately, as their chemistry is off the wall hot, but Max senses that Lana has no idea that she is a werewolf, since she has never shifted.

When Lana is informed that  her friend has been murdered, she notices others following her.  Lana manages to escape, and feels strange vibes happening to her body, including her ability to run abnormally fast;  however she brushes it off.  When Max is worried about Lana, he tries to explain to her what she is, and she becomes scared and leaves.  But when she is forced into another dangerous situation, Lana will learn the truth.

In Wolf Hunger, the storyline changes, with the Hunters (those trying to kill werewolves) coming full force into the picture and a war is on the horizon.  The Hunters have developed a chemical weapon that poisons and kills werewolves, putting all of our hero’s lives in danger.

What follows is an intense and exciting story, where Gabe (SWAT team leader) pulls everyone (including Lana) together for safety, and helping to find a cure for the poison.  As everything escalates, Lana will find herself right in the center of the battle, with the Hunters determined to kill her, as well as the other werewolves.  She will play a major part in helping her new friends survive.

There is also a side story, where Max is in the middle of helping a family with a abusive husband/father.  Max as a teenager lived in that same type of environment, have lost a sister.  It was nice added element watching Max try to help.

The Wolf hunters will now play a major part in future story lines, and the pack is also now getting bigger, with betas and omegas joining them.  As we raced to the exciting suspenseful climax, we held our breaths as to who will survive.  Another great addition to this series, especially with this game changer.

I love this series. It is always fun, exciting, sexy, with a fantastic group of characters that make up the SWAT team, and their eventual mates.  Paige Tyler does it so well, giving us the excitement in every story, as well as a sexy romance.  If you have not read this series, you should start it now with the first book.

“Speaking of award ceremonies,” she said to Max, “I didn’t see you on the stage getting a commendation, so I’m guessing you must be here to support someone who did?”

He nodded. “Yeah. Some of the members of my team got recognized today. How about you? Your boyfriend getting a commendation?”

Max thought he was being pretty damn smooth, but the smile tugging at Lana’s lips told him she saw right through his deception.

“Nope, no boyfriend,” she said. “Actually, it was my dad. Brandy took forever getting dressed. Then we got stuck in traffic. We barely made it here in time to see him get the award. I had to watch from the back of the auditorium.”

That explained why Max hadn’t picked up Lana’s luscious scent earlier. And while he was relieved she didn’t have a boyfriend, it made him wonder which of his fellow cops getting a commendation this afternoon could possibly have a daughter this smokin’ hot.

Max opened his mouth to ask her who her father was when another DPD officer walked by with a plate filled with a collection of various hors d’oeuvres. While Max wasn’t impressed with the selection of food, Lana looked at the appetizers longingly, even though she still had the ones her friend had given her. Maybe she wasn’t big on squash blossoms. He didn’t blame her.

“Would you like me to get you something else to eat?” he asked.

She glanced down at her plate, then shook her head. “Thanks, but unfortunately, the spinach puffs were the only thing remotely edible, which is probably why they’re all gone. I can’t believe they’re trying to pass this stuff off as food.”

He grinned. “I was just thinking the same thing a little while ago. I’m planning to head out as soon as this thing is over so I can get some real food.”

She leaned in close and gave him a conspiratorial wink. “Maybe we can slip out now while no one is looking. I can drop my car keys off with Brandy and we can disappear into the night. I’d just about kill for a slice of pizza.”

Any other time, Max would have been stoked to hear that. In his opinion, there wasn’t anything sexier than a woman who loved pizza. But right then, all he could think about was how his body was reacting to Lana’s nearness. Not only was his pulse racing, but his claws and fangs were dangerously close to coming out. He only hoped his eyes weren’t turning gold.

On the upside, at least he now knew for sure she was a werewolf. He could smell it in her pheromones. That was probably why they hit it off so well. Well, there was another reason, but he wasn’t about to go there—even if a little wolf voice in the back of his head whispered maybe he should.

Lana was telling him about an awesome pizza place that wasn’t too far away, wondering if he’d be interested in checking it out, but instead of answering her, he went in a completely different direction.

“It’s so cool finding another of our kind here,” he said. “I totally didn’t expect it.”

She didn’t seem to mind that he’d changed the subject, but she looked a bit confused. “Another of our kind? Are you a pescatarian, too?”

Max chuckled. That body and those looks combined with a wicked sense of humor? It was like she was made for him. A werewolf who didn’t eat meat? Now, that was epically funny.

Unless it was true, in which case it was a little strange.

Before he could say anything, Lana leaned over to look at something behind him, her lips curving into a smile. Max turned to see who she was looking at and was a little surprised to find Deputy Chief Hal Mason. The deputy chief was in charge of the police department’s specialized Tactical Division, which included the mounted police, canine unit, helicopter support, EOD, and SWAT. As a high-ranking officer in the department, Mason had to attend every award ceremony, but this time he’d been recognized for his commitment to developing his entire division, especially SWAT.

“Hey, Dad.” Lana stepped around Max to give Mason a hug. “I was looking for you and Mom earlier, but you were deep in conversation with some people and I didn’t want to interrupt.”

Max picked his jaw up from the floor and shoved it back into place. Lana was the deputy chief’s daughter?

Wolf Unleashed by Paige Tyler – a Review

Wolf Unleashed by Paige Tyler – a Review

Amazon / B&N / Kobo / BAM / Book Depository

Description:

Wolf shifter Alex Trevino has fallen hard for veterinarian Lacey Barton. Getting her to agree to a date is a lot of work—and winning her heart proves even harder.

Lacey can’t deny her crazy attraction to Alex, but she has no intention of letting herself fall for him. In her less than stellar experience, men don’t stick around.

When Lacey’s sister is kidnapped, it’s up to Alex to crack the case—and prove to Lacey that he isn’t going anywhere.

Review:

Wolf Unleashed by Paige Tyler is the 5th book in her fantastic SWAT (Special Wolf Alpha Team) series.  I love this series, as Tyler continues to give us an exciting story, as well as a great couple.

Alex Trevino is our hero, another one of the elite members of the SWAT team, and a werewolf.  Alex has watched many of his teammates find their mate (“the One”), but he hasn’t dated much, keeping busy with learning to improve his abilities (sniffing and to finally do a full shift).   In the last book, we met Tuffie, their rescue dog, who is now the team mascot.  Alex makes sure he takes Tuffie to the vet often, and meets the new vet, who is on call that day.  Alex can’t take his eyes off of her, and before he leaves asks her out to dinner, which she rejects.

Lacey Barton loves her job, but also works part time helping the police with injured dogs from a dog fighting ring they are trying to stop.  Lacey doesn’t date, being too busy with working long hours to pay the bills for her and her sister.  She also has trust issues, which is part of her bad childhood, which forced her to care for her sister at a very young age.  After many attempts by Alex, whom she is attracted to, she finally gives in to a date.

What follows is a slow build relationship that will become a scorching romance.  But both have their own issues that could hurt a long term relationship.  Alex knows that Lacey is the “One”, but fears he will lose her once she finds out he is a werewolf.

There a few side stories going on, such as a drug that is killing people; a dog fighting ring; and missing college girls.  The story becomes very exciting in an action packed last half of the book, that will tie together.  Alex’s worst fears concerning Lacey come true, when he is forced to reveal himself to save her life.  The danger also accelerates when Lacey’s sister is kidnapped, adding on to the number of missing girls.  Together, Alex, Lacey and all the SWAT team will work against the powerful people involved to expose the drug trafficking and why the girls are missing.  The pulse pounding action will have us holding our breaths in this suspenseful climatic finish.

I loved Alex and Lacey together, as they both worked to overcome their past and current issues.  I enjoyed the added element of Lacey being a veterinarian, and seeing Tuffie, the Swat team mascot, and also Lacey’s dog.  Paige Tyler once again gives us a fantastic exciting, suspenseful  and enjoyable story, with another great couple.  As I noted earlier, I love this series, and I wholly recommend you to start reading this from the beginning.  So much fun.

BUT CAN HE KEEP HER?

Review:

To Love a Wolf by Paige Tyler is the 4th book in her SWAT series.  I have enjoyed each and every book in this series.  To Love a Wolf was a fantastic addition to Tyler’s SWAT series.   We start 3 years in the past, when our hero, Landry Cooper is disarming a bomb, when to his dismay, he realizes he missed another bomb.  The bomb explodes, causing him serious injuries.

We switch to current time, when Landry is fully recovered and now working with the SWAT police team.  If you have read the earlier books, then you know that the SWAT team are all secret werewolves.  Their ability and strength make them a powerful group that brings down even the most violent criminals, but no one knows why or how they do it.

While online in a bank, Landry stands behind an attractive young lady, who seems to be attracted to him.  Before he can introduce himself, his senses alerts him that a robbery is about to happen.  When the young lady is used by one of the robbers, Landry quietly uses his speed to stop the robbers, and save Everly, our heroine.

What follows is a romance between two people who feel the bond quickly.  Landry knows that Everly is the ONE.  They both are falling hard for each other, and when Everly brings Landry to meet her family, things change.  The family knows that Landry is a werewolf, which Everly does not know yet.  The brothers try to hurt Landry to force him to leave Everly along.  When neither listens, they gang up on him, and in doing so, Everly discovers the truth.  Will she be able to accept him being a werewolf?  Will Landry be able to convince Everly that despite her mother’s death years before from a rogue werewolf, not all werewolves are bad?

A major part of the story centers around the bombs being used in the robbery and other ones.  The man who played a major part in saving Landry’s years before brings an emotional element to the story.  I love this series, and love when we get to see many of the wonderful characters we have come to love.  This was a wonderful romance between Everly and Landry, which was sweet and very sexy.  We grieved with Landry, when he thinks he has lost Everly.  What I love about Tyler’s writing is she is a master at blending a sexy sweet romance, with a great couple and not letting it overtake the exciting pulse pounding storyline revolving around the SWAT team.  To Love a Wolf was a wonderful addition to the SWAT series.

excerpt

Outside Samarra City, Iraq, 2009

Staff Sergeant Landry Cooper moved carefully through the rubble covering the floor of the partially demolished building, inching his way closer to the target. The maze of shattered brick and broken pieces of wood weren’t the biggest reason he was moving slowly, though. That had more to do with the hundred-degree temperature and the seventy-five-pound Kevlar bomb suit he was wearing. He despised the army’s suit with a passion that few people outside the Explosive Ordnance Disposal community could understand.

It wasn’t simply that it was hot and heavy. No, what he hated most about the suit was the nearly complete sensory deprivation that came with wearing it. Inside the claustrophobic helmet surrounded by a neck gusset designed to keep your head from getting ripped off your body during an explosion, you couldn’t hear much of anything, your line of sight was distorted by the thick, curved face piece, and your peripheral vision was nonexistent. Having to make a manual approach—better known in EOD circles as the long walk—on a suspected improvised explosive device, or IED, was bad enough. Doing it when you had an armor-plated pillow wrapped around your head?

That sucked.

But he didn’t have a choice. Local construction workers had come in this morning and found a suspected IED half buried in the dirt between two buildings. Cooper and his team had been able to use a robot to drop a small demolition charge near the device, but his disposal charge, combined with a bang from the IED, had caused part of the surrounding buildings to collapse, pissing off the locals and making it impossible to get the robot back in to clear the area.

If there was one cardinal rule in EOD, it was that you never released an incident location back to the good guys without being one hundred percent sure all hazards had been cleared. That meant doing a manual approach in the bomb suit to make sure there weren’t any explosive materials or secondary devices around.

Cooper wasn’t too worried about walking up to the package he’d just blown in place. While the relationship between the city’s Sunni population and ruling Shiite government forces would never be described as anything other than tense, lately things had been better. IED responses were way down, and they hadn’t seen a secondary explosive device, typically planted to target police and other first responders, in months.

Still, he played everything by the book, keeping the protected front of his suit facing the spot where the IED had been, and using the building’s structure for protection as much as possible. At the same time, he kept his head on a swivel, looking for anything that seemed out of place.

“I’m about twenty feet from where we blew the IED,” he murmured over his suit’s radio to his team members waiting in the safe area three hundred yards away, and then remembered he was wasting his breath. The damn radio had stopped working about a month ago, and a replacement wasn’t due for weeks. He was on his own.

Sweat trickled down his nose as he stepped over a low wall and moved toward the crater where the IED had been. He automatically lifted a hand to wipe the sweat from his face and thumped against the plastic face piece.

“Shit, I hate this suit,” he muttered, forced to make due with wiggling his nose.

He reached the edge of the shallow crater and looked down. Two feet deep and six across, it looked like a big soup bowl. There were some rusty nails the bomb maker had added for fun, but the IED itself was long gone. Even better, his demo shot hadn’t exposed another one buried underneath.

Cooper pulled a sharpened fiberglass rod out of his pocket, then jumped into the crater. If there was anything here, the blast from the disposal shot would have uncovered it, but it didn’t hurt to check. Unfortunately, the heavy spine protector in the suit that helped keep an EOD tech’s back from being crushed if blown backward against something hard meant he had to squat down like a sumo wrestler to stick the probe into the dirt. He ignored the sweat and aggravation and made it work.

He’d moved almost all the way around the shot hole and was about to climb out to walk around the rest of the area when his probe hit something hard. He tensed, but then relaxed. He was still here, so it couldn’t be that bad. Dropping to one knee, he used his hand to slowly uncover what he’d found. When a horizontal, cylindrical pipe took shape, he assumed it was a water or sewer line.

They weren’t exactly common in structures as old as this one, but it could have been placed here to supply another building nearby. As he uncovered it, the pipe began to get smaller on one end. His gut clenched as realization dawned on him. He brushed off more dirt, revealing the nose of the 155-millimeter artillery round, as well as the metal electrical conduit extending out of it and running underground.

Fuck.

Cooper pushed himself to his feet and backpedaled toward the edge of the crater as fast as he could. An artillery round didn’t usually have a conduit sticking out the end. This one had been booby-trapped so the bomber could set it off manually whenever he wanted. The conduit was there so the IED wouldn’t cut the line if an EOD tech like him destroyed it. And with the conduit there, Cooper couldn’t cut the line either.

This device was an EOD killer put there because somebody knew a bomb tech would come down and look around before turning the site over to the local police.

His mind raced. A projectile this size carried fifteen pounds of high explosive. When it went off, even a bomb suit as good as the one he had on was unlikely to stop all the frag that came off it.

He reached the top of the crater and backed away as fast as he could. He would have been able to run faster if he turned around, but the weakest part of a bomb suit was the rear. If this thing went off when his back was to it, he’d have no chance.

Time slowed as a thousand thoughts zipped through his head. How he seriously didn’t want to die. How maybe the bomber on the other end of that firing line might have needed to go take a piss, and the 155 wouldn’t go off. How his parents and brothers were going to be crushed when they found out. How he should have gone to the prom with that cute girl in his math class back in high school. How one of the junior members on his team was going to be forced to step up and take over his job. How the new unit lieutenant was going to have to write a condolence letter on his first fucking day on the job.

Cooper pushed those thoughts away, yanking his hands inside the arms of the suit to keep them from getting ripped off in the blast as he focused his attention on moving backward as fast as he could.

Just get twenty feet away. Then you might have a chance.

He didn’t make it ten.

The blast threw him backward before his head even registered the flash of the projectile exploding. Luckily, he was so close that the wave took out the brick wall behind him before he could smash into it. But that luck ran out, and he slammed into the one behind it.

He felt a sharp stab in his back, then nothing from the middle of his chest down. The suit’s spine support had broken—and so had his back.

He hit the ground hard, tumbling like a kid’s toy until he came to a sudden stop against a pile of bricks. He felt pain—lots of it—at least from the chest up. He wasn’t sure how he was able to, but he lifted his head enough to look down, and saw long, jagged fragments from the 155 sticking out of him like he was a damn pincushion.

Cooper let his head drop to the ground and swore long and hard. He was so fucked.

A detached part of his mind noticed that pieces of the building were burning around him. That was interesting, considering how little flammable material was in the area. The flames weren’t too bad, but the smoke would probably choke him to death sooner or later. Not that he was likely to live long enough for that to happen. The frag had penetrated the bomb suit. He’d bleed out fast enough. He’d just be too numb to feel it.

Then someone was at his side, roughly prying up his face, telling him to hold on. That’s when he realized his ears weren’t working right. He could barely hear the person speaking. No shock there. The blast had blown out his eardrums.

He opened his eyes, expecting to see one of his junior teammates, and was shocked when he saw that it was Jim Wainwright, a fellow senior team leader and the best friend he’d ever had. Cooper hadn’t even known another team had arrived.

“Get the hell out of here!” Cooper shouted. Or at least he tried to. The words came out as nothing but a gurgling whisper. “Jim, you know this is stupid. There could be another device down here.”

Jim didn’t answer, but simply shoved his arms under the bomb suit, as if he thought he could pick up Cooper and carry him out of here. He didn’t bother to tell his friend how stupid that was. Besides all the frag sticking out of his body, making the task of picking him up akin to hugging a porcupine, Cooper and the bomb suit he wore weighed nearly three hundred pounds combined.

There was no way in hell Jim could pick him up.

“Go!” he ordered again. “You know I’m done anyway.”

Jim ignored him. Tears running down his face, he tried grabbing the heavy-duty rescue strap at the suit’s shoulder and dragged him across the rubble.

“Shit!” Cooper wailed in agony, white-hot fire shooting through his neck and shoulders. “Just fucking leave me alone and let me die!”

Jim disregarded that request too, grunting like a crazy man as he dragged Cooper over, around, and through the obstacles that separated them from the dilapidated building’s exit. Cooper was stunned his friend could actually move him at all. He’d heard of soldiers doing some insane shit in battle to save a buddy, but this had to be the craziest. Too bad he was already a goner. Cooper only hoped Jim would get a medal out of it. Then, at least, one good thing would come out of this day.

Cooper didn’t get much time to think about what the award write-up would sound like because the pain climbing up his neck like a wave of water drowned him until everything went black.

Review:

In the Company of Wolves by Paige Tyler is the 3rd book in her Swat (Special Wolf Alpha Team series). The first two books in this series were great reads, and I have to say that In the Company of Wolves is the best one yet. Paige Tyler out does herself with this one. I really enjoyed this story, with all the great characters, fill with action and a great romance. I read this in one day, as I could not get enough of this great story.

Eric Becker is our hero,; he is a member of the Swat Werewolf team. During a mission, Eric comes face to face with a beautiful female werewolf who is part of a gang in the midst of trying to escape a robbery. When Eric sees Jayna, our heroine, he knows that she could be the “One”. All the Swat members have seen the legend of finding their mate (the One), and now they have begun to believe in it, especially since two of their team have been mated.

Jayna is a member of a pack, which the Alpha has ties with Albanian mobsters. Jayna is not happy working with them, but she is loyal to her Alpha, Liam, and her original 4 younger members, who are innocent and follow Jayna. When she sees Eric, she feels the attraction, and after he hides her from his team, she knows he is different from the wolves of her pack.

Eric is determined to find out more about her, and help her escape her current pack gone bad with her friends. In order to do so, Eric goes undercover to join Jayna’s pack, and only his teammate, Cooper knows.

What follows is an intense, exciting, nail biting adventure that puts both Eric and Jayna’s lives in danger. Jayna’s Alpha hates Eric, and tries to undermine him. Just when you think, after an explosive action packed scenario, when the entire Swat team comes to help, that all is well, but you just know more of this is yet to come.

The romance between Eric and Jayna was so well done. I totally adored them together, not to mention it being “Scorching Hades” hot. I also loved Jayna’s feelings and loyalty to her young friends, as well as Eric accepting them as his was a nice touch.  They were so great together.

Paige Tyler continues to amaze me with each book in this series keeps getting better and better than the one before. This is a magnificent, fun, sexy, exciting and thrilling series, which also has wonderful characters, and great couples.   In the Company of Wolves was a well written and a great read.   I suggest you read this series, and start with the first book; it is a gem.

Guest PostThis December, Paige Tyler releases the third in her action-packed SWAT series, IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES. To celebrate the release of IN THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, Paige Tyler stopped by to tell us about one of her favorite fun loving heroes in pop culture and to share an excerpt showcasing her own hero’s fun loving side!

Paige Tyler: Everyone loves reading about alpha males, right? But of course, you can’t have a single dimensional character that’s just hardcore alpha all the time. It comes off as flat or just plain irritating. Most of the time you want to let your alpha have a lighter side, just to keep things interesting. One of my favorite fun loving heroes from popular culture is Stiles Stilinski!

Dylan O’Brien plays a very unique character from one of my other favorite TV series Teen Wolf. While he may not seem to fit the bill as your prototypical alpha—he’s kind of on the small side and tends to get used for comedy relief—he still has the courage to throw himself into any situation against any kind of monster to help a friend. He might be terrified while he’s doing it, but he’s going to do it anyway. He’s bold enough to get the girl and funny enough to make us all laugh, even in the midst of a show that seems all too willing to kill off major characters whenever they feel like it.

One of the Albanians shouted something from the front of the store in his own language, following it up with an order to the omegas to stop wasting time and get the damn safe open. Becker ground his teeth. He should have simply kidnapped Jayna and her entire pack. Then he could have just walked into the loft and shot every one of these idiots—twice.

“Watch them,” he told Jayna, motioning to the security guard and two women. Turning, he left the break room and jogged down the hallway toward the back of the building.

“Get them back on the safe!” the Albanian driver shouted at him from the front room.

Oh yeah, sure. Stop two morons from raping a woman and get them back on task. What the hell was he—a daycare worker for omega werewolves?

Shit. If this was how criminals behaved, it was no wonder he and his SWAT teammates took so many of them down. They were too stupid to live. Then again, maybe this was how Gage felt some days. The SWAT pack could occasionally be a little stupid too. Becker’s current predicament was a shining example of that.

The omega standing guard in the hallway outside the manager’s office glared at him. “We got this. Go back and babysit the old folks.”

What a complete ass, Becker thought as he walked up and punched the guy in the face. The werewolf flew backward and bounced off the wall, bleeding like crazy from a broken nose as he fell to the floor in a dazed heap. He was still moving around though, reminding Becker that it was as hard to knock out an omega as it was to knock out an alpha. He’d have to remember that.

Becker strode into the office to find the store manager on the floor beside her desk, the other omega—the one who liked to play with his platinum medallion—leaning over her menacingly. He’d torn her blouse and was telling her all the horrible things he planned to do to her if she didn’t open the safe. The idiot was so intent on threatening her that he didn’t realize Becker was there until he yanked the guy to his feet and spun him around, then smashed the back of his head into the nearest hard object he could find—the safe panel. Becker pounded his head into the safe a few times before letting him fall to the floor. The asshole was definitely out cold.

Becker turned and looked at the shop manager. She cringed away from him, terror in her eyes as she tried to hold the tatters of her blouse together. He really wished he could pull up his ski mask. Seeing him like this definitely wasn’t helping.

Do you have an alarm button in this room?” he asked in his softest, least intimidating voice.

The woman stared at him for a moment like he was insane, then motioned under the desk with a shaking hand.

“Would you mind pushing it for me?” he asked.

Now she looked really confused. But she slowly reached under the desk and poked around until a loud alarm started ringing.

“Thanks.” Becker bent down to take the platinum medallion out of the omega’s vest and slip it into his pocket. “By the way, that diamond merchant you bought from in New York sold you out to a really bad guy. You probably don’t want to buy from him anymore.” Turning, he jogged out of the room and down the hallway to the front of the store. “Time to leave. Moron hit the alarm.”

Jayna was heading his way in a flash, the two Albanians right behind her.

“What about the safe?” the driver asked.

Becker shook his head. “It’s a no-go. Our guy smashed the keypad.”

The Albanians muttered something in their native language and shook their heads, as if they’d seen this coming. They stepped over the omega who was still rolling around in a daze on the floor in the hallway and raced out the back door. In the distance, sirens echoed in the air. About damn time. Becker motioned Jayna out.

“What about him?” she asked, jerking her head at the werewolf still trying to get to his knees.

Becker nudged the omega with his boot, pushing him back down. The guy looked like he really didn’t want to bother getting up this time.

“What about him?” Becker said, holding the door open for her.

Review:

Wolf Trouble by Paige Tyler is the 2nd book in her Swat series. I thoroughly enjoyed the first book in this series (Hungry Like the Wolf) and after reading Wolf Trouble, I am happy that this was just as good or even a bit better. With so many hunks on the SWAT team, we have so much fun ahead of us. For those of you who have not read my review of the first book, this series is about a police swat team that are secretly werewolves, which gives them the advantage in fighting dangerous criminals.

Xander Riggs is our hero and we met him in the first book. When Gabe (Hungry Like a Wolf hero) tells Xander that they are being pressured to adding a female to the Swat team, he is not happy, since it would threaten their secret. To his shock, Gabe has found a female cop is soon to shift to rare female werewolf.

Khaki Blake is a cop in Washington State, who is having trouble with her ex, who is also a cop. On assignment, Khaki called for help, and this was ignored, since the backup police officers were afraid of her ex. This is the last straw that will have Khaki jump at the chance to leave Washington and take Gabe’s offer to join his Swat team.

Khaki is assigned to Xander’s team, must to his disgust. But Khaki wins over all the guys on the team, who treat her like one of them. She turns out to be a smart, savvy, tough cop, who becomes a great addition to the team. Xander finds himself unable to control his feelings, as his wolf feels the attraction to Khaki, which he is desperately trying to avoid. Khaki also feels the attraction to Xander, but doesn’t understand why he is cold to her.

This was such a fun story, especially with the camaraderie between Khaki and the hot alpha hunks, as well as watching them work with her during training and her teaching them yoga. The romance between Xander and Khaki heats up as neither of them can control their lust for each other, despite the knowledge that a supervisor and member should not be in any relationship. But in a short time, it is obvious that they are mates.

What follows is an exciting story, with missions involving a bank robbery gang that are difficult to catch, as they kill along the way. To make matters worse, Khaki’s ex will come back for revenge and the danger escalates.

Wolf Trouble was a great story, with a lot of action, fun, humor, romance and very steamy. Xander and Khaki had a lot of hot chemistry together and made a great couple. I enjoyed this book so much, that I finished it in one day. I cannot wait for more of this series by Paige Tyler, and if you want a fun exciting and sexy read, look no further then the SWAT series. There are so many more wonderful hot hunks to go. 🙂

excerpt

“Xander had to pick his jaw up off the floor of the training room when Gage introduced the newest member of the SWAT team. He didn’t know what to expect, but it sure as hell wasn’t Officer Khaki Blake. Tall with an athletic build and just enough curves to fill out the SWAT T-shirt, she had the biggest brown eyes and softest looking lips he’d ever seen. She had her dark hair back in a bun, so he couldn’t tell how long it was, but he’d bet money it fell past her shoulders. She smelled way too good to be believed, too—like a slice of frosted spice cake in a uniform.

Shit. He was practically panting. If he didn’t get a grip soon, he was going to start drooling.
He gave the other guys a covert glance to see how they were dealing with her scent and was stunned to see that none of them reacted at all. Why not? His nose wasn’t that much better than theirs. He knew for a fact that several of the other guys—Cooper Landry and Jayden Brooks specifically—could smell a hell of a lot better than he could.
Maybe everyone was so mesmerized by finally getting to see a female version of their kind that the rest of their senses had stopped working.

Gage had left it up to Xander to fill the guys in on what had gone down at the meeting with Deputy Chief Mason while he’d headed home to get ready for his trip to Washington State. While the guys had been pissed that the top brass was playing politics with the team, they’d been intrigued at the idea of adding a female werewolf to the Pack.
They’d bombarded him with dozens of questions, none of which he could answer. Was she as fast and strong as they were? Did her abilities manifest themselves in completely different ways? Would she be as aggressive as they were and able to handle herself in a fight? Were there more like her out there, or was she the only one?
Not all the questions were so general. Brooks wondered what she would look like, Max Lowry wanted to know if she would smell like them, and Eric Becker… Well, Becker just wanted to know if she liked to wear yoga pants. God, that kid had an obsession with those things.

Xander had told them what he knew—that no one except Gage knew a damn thing about female werewolves. And Xander wasn’t so sure how much their commander knew, either.
While Xander was lost in thought, Gage turned the floor over to Khaki, who was currently explaining how much she appreciated the opportunity to be in SWAT.

“I know I won’t be handed anything, but I look forward to proving to every one of you that I belong in the Pack and on the team.” She spoke in a light, lilting voice that surprisingly filled the large classroom. Xander could definitely pick up the Midwest accent, so she probably wasn’t originally from the Pacific Northwest. “I’m not asking for anything from you but a chance to do prove myself.”

Hungry Like the WolfAmazon / Barnes & Noble / The Book Depository

Description:
INTRODUCING SWAT: SPECIAL WOLF ALPHA TEAM

They’re tight

They’re on target

They’re as alpha as men can get.

The Dallas SWAT team is hiding one helluva secret . . . they’re a pack of wolf shifters.

The team of elite sharpshooters is ultra-secretive—and also the darlings of Dallas. This doesn’t sit well with investigative journalist Mackenzie Stone. They must be hiding something . . . and she’s determined to find out what.

Keeping Mac at a distance proves impossible for SWAT team commander Gage Dixon. She’s smart, sexy, and makes him feel alive for the first time in years. But she’s getting dangerously close to the truth—and perilously close to his heart…

Review:

Hungry Like the Wolf by Paige Tyler is the 1st book in her new SWAT series. SWAT stands for Special Wolf Alpha Team. Lucky for us, these men are most definitely Alphas, and very hot. Gage Dixon is the SWAT team leader and our hero, and the first of what promises to be a fun time with quite a few hot men, who will be getting their own stories told.

Mac is our heroine, and an investigative reporter, who is determined to find out the truth behind the Dallas SWAT team, who are so perfect. They are strong, bigger, and faster than normal cops, but no one knows that underneath it all, they are werewolves. Each was picked by Gage to become part of this SWAT team to help fight the bad guys.

After getting a tip that something is not right, Mac suspects perhaps they are using enhancement drugs. Mac sets out to find out, and comes face to face with Gage, during a daring rescue attempt. He moves her to their truck, as she was getting herself into danger too close to the scene. It doesn’t take long for both of them to feel the heat, which was not from the fire at the site.

Gage convinces his team to allow Mac to hang around for a few days at their compound, in order for her to learn what he wants her to know. The men are not happy about this, but they go along with their leader, as wolves, they can sense the attraction between Gage and Mac. Is Mac the ONE for Gage?

What follows is not only a romance that slowly begins to sizzle, as their chemistry is off the wall, but an exciting story that threatens those on the team and Mac. The focus of the story is a well connected villain, who blames Gage for the death of his bad son. Gage must try to be a step ahead to stop this villain; keeping his team and Mac safe; and try to control his growing feelings for Mac. When a situation gets out of hand, Mac will learn the truth about Gage & his team. What will she do? Write her story that would be a major scoop, but destroy Gage and his team in the process?   You need to read this book to find out.

This was a fun, exciting and hot story by Paige Tyler. I look forward to reading more about these hot men of the SWAT team, as they all get their chance.

“We dropped Corporal Riggs off a few blocks out from the scene. He hoofed it
in over the rooftops while we were getting into position outside. He went in
and set up the remote cameras and microphones while everyone inside was
focused on us and the other police officers.”

Riggs and Taylor stared at their commander, clearly shocked by how open he’d
been about their tactics to a member of the media. Mac was stunned, too.
She’d been fishing when she’d asked the question. She hadn’t expected them
to actually answer her.

Dixon chuckled. “You don’t have to look so alarmed. It’s not like I shared
state secrets. Besides, Ms. Stone will be coming by the compound later today
to take a look around and see how we operate.”

Mac did a double take. “Seriously?”

His amber eyes met hers. “That’s what you wanted, isn’t it? An in-depth look
at a day in the life of a SWAT officer?”

She was more interested in finding out if they were hiding something, but
she didn’t tell him that.

“I figured if I didn’t make the offer, you’d only hang around outside the
compound for months until I agreed to let you in. Or until you tried to
sneak into the middle of the next hostage situation,” he said. “This way we
can do our job without worrying about you popping up out of nowhere, and you
get to do yours without risking your life.” She opened her mouth to thank
him, but he held up a finger. “There’s one condition, though.”

“Name it.”

“You agree not to detail any of our tactical procedures or techniques like
the one I just told you about. You print those and you’ll get my team
killed.” He lifted a brow. “Do we have an agreement?”

Mac nodded eagerly. “Yes.”

She’d agree to whatever he wanted if it got her in the compound-even if it
meant going back on her word later. Although, after today, she wasn’t sure
there was a story. She seriously doubted these guys were doing drugs,
regardless of what Marvin said. But that didn’t matter. No way was she
passing up an opportunity like this.

“I’ll see you at the compound this afternoon then,” Dixon said as he opened
the door for her. “Say three o’clock?”

She smiled up at him. “I’ll be there.”

Mac had to resist the urge to do a little happy dance as she hurried back to
the news van. She wasn’t sure how it had happened, but somehow she’d gotten
herself an engraved invitation to get up close and personal with the
country’s most elite tactical unit-the Dallas PD SWAT.
