ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 10, 2017

Four years ago, a car accident robbed Nancy Frost of her child and her mother, taking what was left of her marriage with it in the process. A forensic accountant, she agrees to look at a company’s books in a divorce case, trying to find hidden assets, but her meeting with the lawyer goes terribly wrong when the restaurant is attacked.

The moment US Marshal Neil Copeland discovers his wife has been shot in a Baltimore restaurant, he rushes to her side, determined not to let her down again. As the police investigate, evidence suggests the attack was a ploy to hide a specific hit. When a professional assassin tries to kill Nancy a second time, it’s clear that she was the target and whatever’s going on is a lot more complicated than they think.

When Nancy awakes after a month in an induced coma, not only does she not remember the attack on the restaurant, she doesn’t remember marrying Neil.

Faced with the challenge of protecting his wife from a powerful, faceless enemy, Neil must bring her up to date, dredging up all the sorrow that tore them apart in the first place, hoping something will jar her memory.

As he races against time, can he save her from an unknown assassin and convince her to give the love they once had a second chance?

REVIEW: Sworn to Protect is a Romance/Suspense novel. If you like romance and suspense with a good bit of danger in your stories…this one’s for you. It’s well paced, action and emotion packed drama.

Nancy Frost (Copeland)is a tax specialist and incredibly good at her job. However, she inadvertently opens the wrong file and life goes downhill really fast from there. Nancy is beginning divorce procedures after a bad car accident and she loses both her mother and her unborn son. It’s been four years and she just can’t get past it. Her best friend and divorce lawyer, Meredith, tries to talk her out of filing, but she seems decided. Meredith also asks for a tax review for a client, complicating the plot further.

Neil Copeland and his partner Todd Higgins are U.S. Marshalls whose job it is to protect and hide witnesses until they can testify for the Justice Department, then put them into the program with a whole new identity and life. Neil was on assignment four years earlier when his wife had a bad car accident. Unfortunately, his boss didn’t reach him for five days after the accident to let him know.

That’s the basic set up. This is a marvelously and cleverly twisted story of broken love, dangerous people, and second chances. It’s full of danger, great secondary characters, and of course more than a few scumbags. Domestic terrorism and betrayal of country are also featured.

I loved the couple. I loved the stoic man who loves his wife with all his heart. Many regrets and what he considers failures are his devils, but his love is always strong and unshakable. His wife only blames him for not being there for her…that his job came first. Her father put job before family and for her it’s a deal breaker, but did he?

When Nancy is attacked and almost killed because of her job, he’s assigned to take care of her and protect her. Like he wouldn’t have on his own…but his boss knows he owes him.

I’m not going to do any spoiling of this incredible story. You really have to read it for yourself. It should be a movie. If it was, it’s one of those I’d watch again and again. Author Susanne Matthews has put together a believable and complicated story with so much heart as well as real danger. It’s woven with realism and heartbreak that needs healing. If romantic suspense is a theme you like, do yourself a favor and don’t miss this one.

No Good Deed

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 31, 2017

Psychological chills and thrills are woven around a heartwarming love story in this action-packed romantic suspense novel.

Escaping from her abusive fiancé, Alexa O’Brien pulls into a gas station only to walk in on an execution. She’s in protective custody until she can identify Nicoli Zabat, Montreal’s mob boss, at his trial. But her safe house has been compromised, setting in motion a dangerous cat-and-mouse game.

Lieutenant Mike Delorme on the Sûreté Du Québec has spent the last eighteen months undercover in narcotics to take down Zabat, the man he blames for the death of his wife and unborn child. He doesn’t have the interest or patience to babysit a woman whose memory isn’t clear—but he’ll carry out his assignment to show the brass he’s a team player.

As Mike and Alexa dodge danger, it appears she’s in deeper than merely being in the wrong place at the wrong time. When the mafia hit she witnessed is revealed to be just the tip of an international terrorist’s plot, they must rely on each other to survive—but only if they can learn to trust their instincts and let love map out their next move.

REVIEW: No Good Deed is a Romance/Mystery/Suspense novel. This exciting story is fast-paced, twisty, and features a feisty romance. Author Susanne Matthews is excellent at twisting plots and adding surprises, this one exceeds the rules.

The main characters are believable and damaged but lovable, both of them. The secondary characters are both interesting and unique. The bad guys are malevolent, greedy, and generally evil. However, the main bad guy is exceptional. He’s intelligent and talented and gives Hannibal Lechter a run for his money.

The plot is simple but with all the twists and turns I expect from this author. I was not disappointed in the least. I swear I could watch this one on the movie screen in my mind.

Okay, here’s the set-up.

Alexa O’Brien is escaping. She’s planned well…she thinks. She’s going to make it this time…she thinks. When she tries do one good deed on her way, all hell breaks loose and she’s going to die…she thinks. But fate intervenes and she’s put in protective custody…she thinks.

Mike Delorme is a lieutenant, a member of the Sûreté du Québec, the province’s provincial police force for the last fifteen years. He’s not quite recovered from a beating while on assignment, but is reassigned to a joint task force to protect a woman…he thinks. Her safe house and protection are a botched job…he thinks. He’ll protect her and keep her alive like he failed to do for his wife…he thinks. He doesn’t need romance or a family anymore…he thinks. The task force has his back…he thinks.

Okay, that’s the set-up. You can find the answers to these little teasers and more by reading this marvelous adventure for yourself. It’s a great story with lots of excitement and adventure and you’ll find yourself falling in love with these two…I don’t think it…I know it!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 4,2 017

To keep her safe, he’ll have to uncover all her secrets…

Rayne Alexander. A face I never thought I’d see again, and one I never could forget. Nine years ago, she left town-and me–without a backward glance. But now she’s back, with a haunted look in her eyes and a feisty attitude that didn’t exist when we were teenagers. Seeing this grown-up–and sexy–Rayne is something I wasn’t prepared for… and it’s bringing up feelings I’d thought I’d buried years ago.

Although I want to demand answers from Rayne, working on black ops at Night Eagle Security has taught me that it’s sometimes better to keep my mouth shut. So when I catch her hiding a photo of a little boy, I’m curious. When I see her jump as her phone rings, I’m concerned. But the second I notice a car following her home, I know she’s hiding something. Something dangerous. And while I may not know why she left or why she’s back, if there’s someone out there Rayne is afraid of, I’ll make damn sure that threat is eliminated.

•••••••••

REVIEW: SWORN TO PROTECT is the first installment in Diana Gardin’s contemporary, adult RESCUE OPS romantic, suspense series focusing on the men and women of Night Eagle Security-a security company made up of former members of the military including Special Forces, Navy SEALS, and Army Rangers who specialize in personal security as well as working for some governmental agencies. This is Jeremy ‘Brains’ Teagues, and PA Rayne Alexander’s story line. The Rescue Ops series is a spin off from the author’s Battle Scars series, and several characters cross-over for cohesion and familiarity. You do not have to have read the original series to follow SWORN TO PROTECT. Any important information from the previous series is revealed where necessary.

Told from three first person perspectives including Jeremy and Rayne, SWORN TO PROTECT is a second chance story line that focuses on protecting Rayne Alexander. Rayne is on the run having uncovered some disturbing information about her former boss. Landing back home in Wilmington, North Carolina our heroine will come face to face with her past-a past she thought she had left behind-but a past that is with her every moment of her life. Enter Jeremy Teagues, security specialist and former Special Forces soldier, who has never stopped loving the woman who disappeared years before. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Jeremy and Rayne, and the struggle to protect Rayne, and someone she loves.

Almost nine years earlier Rayne Alexander dropped out of sight, and out of Jeremy Teagues’ life. Fast forward to present day, and our hero is determined to uncover the truth behind Rayne’s disappearance but in order to ensure her safety, Jeremy becomes the over protective male in our heroine’s life. But Rayne Alexander has a secret-one that could destroy her relationship with the man that she has always loved-or a secret that could pull together the family she has always wanted. With issues of trust, Rayne doesn’t know if Jeremy is the man for the job.

The relationship between Jeremy and Rayne is one of second chances; a reawakening of a love that was destroyed by secrets, betrayal, lies and power. The $ex scenes are intimate, intense and seductive. Their reunion and revelations of secrets is emotional and heartbreaking.

We are introduced to Jeremy’s team of security specialists at Night Eagle Security headed by Jacob Owen; Dare Conner and his girlfriend Berkley, and ex-SEAL Grisham Abbot and his fiancé Greta from the Battle Scars series, as well as Ronin Shaw; Rayne’s next door neighbor Macy and her son Julius, Decker James, Night and Rayne’s sister Olive who has some secrets of her own. The requisite evil has many faces including a twist to the story line that I detected early on.

The world building follows the friendships, camaraderie, and working relationships of the men and women of Night Eagle Security: their close knit devotion to one another, and their willingness to go above and beyond for the people they love.

SWORN TO PROTECT is a suspense filled, action packed, intense story line about two people whose lives were torn apart by power and greed. The premise is engaging and energetic; the characters are spirited, colorful and charismatic; the romance is captivating and sensual. Diana Gardin is a new to me author; SWORN TO PROTECT is my first story and will not be my last.

REVIEW: SWORN TO PROTECT is the 11th installment in Katie Reus’s adult, contemporary Red Stone Security romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for RSS. This is Red Stone Security’s Quinn Brody, and their newest employee Athena Manikas storyline. All of Katie’s Red Stone Security installments can be read as stand alones without any difficulty. Some of the previous storyline characters appear in secondary and supporting roles: there is also a cross over with Katie’s Serafina: Sin City series- a spin off from her RSS series.

Told from several third person perspectives SWORN TO PROTECT follows the rekindling of a relationship between Athena and Quinn. Two months earlier, Quinn ended his romance with Athena following her declaration that she was a virgin and in the ensuing time Quinn has been unable to forget the woman who stole his heart. Discovering Athena was now working for Red Stone Security as their director of marketing, Quinn begins a slow seduction of the woman he pushed away. A threat directed at both Quinn and Athena finds our hero as both protector and would be lover, when someone from Quinn’s past intends to destroy everyone that he loves. A business trip to Vegas allows Quinn the opportunity to get up close and personal under the pretense of protecting the woman with whom he is falling in love.

The relationship between Quinn and Athena is one of second chances but Athena is afraid to have her heart broken –again. What ensues is the rebuilding of trust before Athena allows Quinn to claim her as his own. The $ex scenes are seductive and a little bit steamy.

Several of the Red Stone Security agents and their significant others play a supporting role throughout the storyline, as well as the Serafina’s security specialist Iris Christiansen. We are introduced to Athena’s assistant Raegan, with a possible romance blossoming with one of two potential suitors. The requisite evil comes in the form of an ex con with a grudge against Quinn Brody.

SWORN TO PROTECT is a quick read; a fast paced, second chance romance with a little bit of suspense. There is an insta-love quality to the storyline but our couple has a previous history so the fast build up is to be expected. Katie Reus’s Red Stone Security series is always a ‘go to’ read every time. I have never been disappointed with Katie’s storylines-there is always something that draws me in like a moth to a flame. Her characters are charismatic and colorful; the storylines engaging and enjoyable; the love and happily ever afters fated.

Review:

Sworn to Protect is the first book in Jo Davis’s new Sugarland Blue series.  This is my first time reading anything by Jo Davis, and this will not be my last.  Sworn to Protect is Contemporary Romance Suspense, and an excellent fun read.

We meet our hero, Shane Ford, at the Sugarland police station, as all the detectives were sitting around complaining of boredom, and the simple cases they get.  Shortly thereafter, Shane and another detective are called onto a murder case.

During this time, Shane laments his lost relationship with Daisy, a female cop in the Juvenile division.  Daisy Callahan is our heroine, and she makes a wonderful caring cop, who works with young & teenage children.  She still loves Shane, but was hurt badly when they broke up.  Shane was not ready to settle down, and now he regrets his actions, especially every time he sees Daisy, who is very beautiful and sexy, as all the men ogle Daisy, which makes Shane angry.

When Shane’s best friend dies, he has to take care of his teenage god-son, Drew.  It is Daisy, who drops everything to help Shane, who needs all the help he can get trying to be a father figure to Drew.  From this point on, this becomes a multi faceted story of a beautiful romance,  a teenage boy trying to rebuild his life and get past a terrible tragedy, of friends and family joining together to help those they care about, and a murder mystery that puts a few lives in danger.  Shane and Daisy made the perfect couple, and their steamy sex scenes were on fire.  During the suspense of tying together a mystery that will tie all the pieces together, it was a wonderful story of true romance, with a great cast of wonderful characters.  I really enjoyed this story, as I read this in one day.  I plan to continue to read this series.

INTERVIEW with Jo Davis

Jo Davis

FOLLOW: Website / Goodreads/| Facebook | Twitter

TRC: Hi Jo and welcome to The Reading Café.  You have a busy 2013 planned with several new releases and spin off series.

Jo: Thank you for having me here! Yes, 2013 has been crazy, and 2014 even more so, in a good way!

TRC: We would like to start with some background information.  Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Jo: I’m a multi-published author who currently writes under 2 pen names, and I’ve been writing for 13 years. I’m a mother of 2 awesome almost-grown kids, and I just bought a new home that we’re having fun decorating.

TRC: How do you handle the combined pressures of writing deadlines and family life?

Jo: It’s not easy! I try to balance work with taking breaks. I go to lunch, dinner, and movies with my kids for special outings. I take a break and make dinner at home. We talk about our day and try hard to enforce a “No Smartphones” rule at the table! Family grounds me and so I try not to get too carried away in work.

TRC: Many authors bound ideas and information with other authors or family. With whom do you bounce ideas?

Jo: I discuss plotting and such with my critique partners, Tracy Garrett and Suzanne Ferrell. They are invaluable to me.

TRC: SWORN TO PROTECT is the first full length storyline in your new Sugarland Blue series.  Would you please tell us something about the premise?

Sugarland Blue CollageJo: The Sugarland Blue series centers on the heroes of the Sugarland Police Department and is about our men in blue, the dangers they face, and the women who love them. The series kicks off with Detective Shane Ford and his long awaited stories. The first one is a novella, ARMED AND DANGEROUS, which is a prequel to the series and has some history of Shane and Daisy. It doesn’t have to be read to enjoy the first full-length book, SWORN TO PROTECT. Here’s a blurb for SWORN:

Detective Shane Ford, Sugarland’s favorite cop, has been blindsided by the sudden death of his best friend, NFL star Brad Cooper, and becoming the legal guardian of Brad’s son, Drew—a bitter, angry sixteen-year-old with a dangerous secret. Shane is determined to pry the truth from Drew, but only manages to alienate him—and winds up going head to head with Juvenile Detective Daisy Callahan, whose job is to protect the teen’s best interests.

Shane has always been drawn to Daisy’s beauty and strength, but he’s determined not to allow their intense attraction to interfere with his duty ever again. It’s a vow that will prove difficult to keep, as the realities of Shane and Daisy’s blossoming love and their growing bond with the grieving teen propel Shane headlong into danger for the new family he’s sworn to protect.

henry cavill TRC: In your mind, which actor or model would be the ideal image of your leading characters Daisy Callahan and Shane Ford?

Jo: The extremely versatile and sexy Henry Cavill IS Shane! I couldn’t ask for a more perfect specimen of male hotness to portray my much-loved detective. As for Daisy… I’m not sure. Readers, which blonde actress do you think would make a good Daisy?

TRC: ONE LAST KISS is the first storyline in your new FBI series Armed and Deadly.  Would you please tell us something about the premise of the book and the series?

One Last KissJo: This series is romantic suspense, but will be much darker and grittier than my other series written as Jo Davis, more along the lines of early Linda Howard or Lisa Jackson. Each hero in the FBI series will get his own book. I’m working on editing the first book to get it up for publication by June—heavy deadline with my current publisher has set me back, but I’m determined to get it done! Here’s the blurb for ONE LAST KISS:

They are the FBI’s best. Men and women who put their lives on the line, hunting the most dangerous, depraved criminals lurking in the underbelly of society. No situation is too treacherous, no risk too great to bring down their enemies. But for love, they’ll risk everything…

Special Agent Dominick “Nick” Roth is the FBI’s fallen star, a man on the brink of self-destruction, slowly drowning in guilt and grief due to his part in his partner’s death two years ago. Nick is ready to resign from the Bureau—until the monster who calls himself “Samson” goes back on the hunt, forcing Nick to play his deadly game once more.

Reeling in the wake of her best friend’s murder at the hands of an infamous serial killer, Lena DeAngelis demands justice. When she learns that the agent who knows Samson better than anyone refuses to rejoin the search to catch the murderer, Lena seeks him out and won’t accept “no” for an answer—Nick Roth is going to find the sadistic bastard and destroy him once and for all.

As passion ignites between Nick and Lena, a shocking web of obsession and murder comes to light…and a devastating truth rocks Nick to his core. Samson is closer than anyone realized, always remaining one step ahead—and Lena may be his next victim. Nick vows to take down the cunning monster, but success may come with a terrible price…

TRC: You also write a paranormal shifter series –ALPHA PACK-under the pen name J.D. Tyler.  What are you plans for this series?

Hunter's HeartJo: I’m about to begin work on book 5, COLE’S REDEMPTION, which will be Zander Cole’s story. He’s the Healer of the Pack, and he’s suffered a devastating injury (in BLACK MOON) that has left him feeling worthless to his team. His story promises to be a heartbreaker… I’ve also just signed a new contract for 2 more Alpha Pack books, for books 6 & 7, so the Pack will get more stories!

TRC: Do your storyline characters speak to you and tell you the direction of the story or do you direct the characters?

Jo: The characters definitely direct me! They speak to me and tell me the direction the story is supposed to go, and they repeatedly refuse to cooperate when I want to do something different than they have planned. They usually win the argument!

TRC: What do you believe is the biggest misconception about yourself?

Jo: I’m not sure… Perhaps that just because I’m quiet when people first meet me doesn’t mean I am. I’m not quiet at all once you get to know me!

TRC: What five things would you like to accomplish in the next ten years?

Jo:
New York Times bestseller list
USA Today bestseller list
Be nominated/ win a RITA award
Make my first million $
Buy a mountain lake retreat

Completely do-able, right?!

TRC: If you could select one reality show in which you were one of the contestants, which show would you choose and why?

Jo: EXTREME MAKEOVER, body edition! I’d love for those guys to march in, take me by the hand, and give me a complete, fabulous new me. I’m on the 40-something slide and feeling every year of it…

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Jo: Right now I’m finishing HOT PURSUIT, Sugarland Blue #2, for publication in September. This is Detective Taylor Kayne’s story and promises to be a hot one!

TRC: Would you like to add anything else?
