REVIEW: CD Reiss has one hell of a gift when it comes to mafia romance. Take Me is the first in the new series, and boy oh boy was it a winner. This book is dark and devious. The more you read it, the more you can’t help but want more. Dario Lucari is not a kind man, he is also not someone to take lightly in any situation, but that doesn’t stop some people from trying.

While Dario is dark and devious, Sarah is light and laughter. Sheltered from the world, the princess of monsters but unaware of it. When she is kidnapped from her very own wedding, her life changes, she is delivered into the hands of a cruel and dangerous man that will stop at nothing to get what he wants. For Dario, Sarah was a means to an end, a way for revenge, for an alliance, now she has turned into much more.

Dario and Sarah are two characters that are both so shattered, torn in different ways, wanting a different life than what they have been given. Each carries a past, and secrets that they have to face, but neither want to dwell on those demons. I always look forward to CD books, but this one hits a little differently, maybe it’s the vulnerability of Sarah, or Dario, despite his nature, tries to find a way to be better than he is for her. There is so much to this book, the plot is fast paced with sinister twists, secrets that try to tear apart foundations. Don’t even get me started on the ending! Oh My Gosh the ending! Talk about frustrating! I -almost- wish I would have waited for the series to finish to read it all, but I think the wait makes it worth more. Awesome read!

How can I still be here? I clutch the sharp piece of pottery under my glove. It’s a safety blanket. A choice I can make in a situation where my decisions are meaningless.
Hovering in half consciousness, my eyes are closed when the door bangs open again and Dario enters, carrying a tall glass of water. He sets it on a dirty counter in front of me, then leans against the table, crossing one long leg over the other.
I get to my feet and approach the glass, wary but unable to stay away from it. I’ve never been this thirsty in my life; my eyeballs burn, and my tongue is cracked into layers of plaster.
Dario watches me silently, but as I reach out to take the glass, he slaps my hand away. I’m already weak and dizzy, and the force of the blow makes me stumble and spin.
“Please!” I cry. I realize I’m on my knees. I had intended to be strong, to refuse to let him see me suffer any more, but I am so, so thirsty.
“Take that stupid dress off.”
I shake my head. I’m past caring about modesty. I care about the dress. It’s ruined, but it’s mine. I worked on it for months, my fingers numb from stitching, my eyes and back aching as I labored into the night. It may be the only piece of home left to me besides my own body, and I will not take it off.
He shrugs and picks up the glass of water.
I remain defiant.
He turns to go.
And when I feel the triangle of clay inside the wrist of my glove, I think, with blinding clarity, I cannot die here.
“Okay,” I say.
He stops, turns around, but does not put down the glass.
I slip the dress off slowly, regretfully, because as awful as it looks, the fabric is still fine, soft and sweet, a reminder of who I was and what I expected so few sunrises ago. The gloves stay and so do the undergarments I wore to please Sergio because Dario just said to take off the dress and I’m weak but not dead. I’m not giving him anything he doesn’t ask for.
He places the glass back on the table. Then he sweeps a hand through the dust and dirt on its surface and sprinkles them into the water. I watch helplessly as it clouds over in the sunlight.
“Down to the skin,” he says. “Show me every inch.”
The suggestion in his command floods my dry veins with resistance.
“You said the dress.” I hold out my left hand—the one without the distorting piece of pottery under the glove. “Give it to me.”
This time, he takes a discarded nursery container and pinches out white-flecked potting soil. He drops it in the water like a chef seasoning too heavily.
“It’s going to be mud soon,” he says. “If you aren’t naked.”
“Where’s my father?” I squeak without spit. “Did he give you what you want?”
“Haven’t spoken to him since the car.”
“I don’t believe you.”
“We tried. He won’t negotiate with outsiders . . . so . . . take off all your fucking clothes.”
I do everything I can not to keep from crying as I lower my white lace underpants and slip out of my matching bra, hands shaking the entire time. I leave the gloves and garter, hoping they’re beside the point.
“I know what you’re hiding in your glove. You’re not going to kill me with a broken flower pot.”
“It wasn’t for you.”
He nods with understanding but not compassion, as if knowing suicide is on the table adds to a data point and no more, then flicks his finger at me. I peel off the gloves. The shard clatters to the floor. I am now naked except for one thing.
“The garter.”
“Not that.” I ball my hands into fists and look at the floor. “Please.”
He says nothing. I can’t see him, so I let myself hope that he’s considering letting me keep this one strip of fabric and elastic that’s tying me to this earth, to my identity, to the one person who loved me like no other. Maybe he’ll find it arousing.
I’ll risk it, even embrace it, for that glass of cloudy water.
The sound of a plop and a splash catches my attention, and I look up to see him slowly pouring a thin line of water onto the tile.
With a gasp, thoughts of my mother are gone, and I rip off the garter before I lose another precious drop, throwing it at his feet.
“There,” I say, finally bare before him, exposed as I have never been before a man.
My breath skips, and I finally cry, but I don’t have enough water in my body to make tears or snot over this destroyed moment—the first time a man’s eyes see my skin, my nipples, my utter vulnerability.
The moment I took that dress off was supposed to be one of the most beautiful of my life. Instead, it is a violation.
He isn’t satisfied yet though.
“Stay still,” he commands.
He walks behind me, hovering for a moment before grabbing my hair and yanking it back so that I’m gazing up into the camera’s merciless eye.
“Can you imagine how good it will feel,” he murmurs, his breath hot against my neck, “when I let you drink?” He lays his other hand under my chin and slides it down as he speaks. “That cold, sweet water sliding down your throat?”
I nod helplessly, gulping what feels like a lump of garden pebbles.
“Even with a little dirt, a little dust, you’ll take it all down, won’t you? You’re just about ready to beg for it.”
“I’ll beg,” I agree with a voice I don’t recognize. “I’ll do it.”
“You need it,” he says, and I can feel the cruelty of the smile in his voice.
“Please,” I whisper. “Please… please…”
“Say it for the camera.”
Who’s on the other side? His boss? My family? The entire world?
“Please give it to me.”
“Let me swallow it,” he whispers thickly. “Beg.”
“Let . . . let me swallow it all. Please.”
“I know what your body needs. And what you’ll do to get it.”
And then, just as abruptly as he’d grabbed me, he spins me around so that I’m facing him and he pushes me to my knees.
“This will go much easier for you if you play along,” he murmurs.
I’m so weak and dizzy I almost tip over before he pulls me up by the hair on top of my head.
“Steady, principessa.” With his free hand, he opens the fly of his pants, exposing the thick bulge beneath cotton underwear.
He’s going to take it out and force me to taste his cock. Take it down my throat. Swallow his come.
I’ve spent my life waiting for this, and I don’t want it this way . . . but I want it. My body aches to just give up, taste whatever he puts on my tongue. I look up at him, offering whatever he’s willing to take as long as he gives me something to drink.
But he does not release his erection.
Instead, he pulls my head into his crotch. The fabric is damp on my lips, heavy and musty on my nose as he grinds into my face. And he’s hard. So hard. He forces the shape of his shaft along the opening between my lips, and I taste no more than an essence of him . . . but it’s enough. My clit fills and drops, weighted by a constant, brutal pulse of arousal that’s timed to the way he pushes into my face, holding my head still.
My hands steady me against his thighs, then pull him closer.
I want it.
I surrender.
I’ll suck him for water or a glass of sand.
Why is he keeping it behind his clothes?
“Yes,” he growls, putting both hands behind my head and pushing me into his crotch so hard his erection feels like stone on my chin.
I put out my tongue, licking the damp fabric. He stops for a moment. His growl turns into a gasp, and the clothed organ against me pulses. A warm wetness gathers at my cheek.
Then he lets me go, and I fall back on my hands, gasping as I notice the thick wet stain where he came as I licked him.
“Okay,” he says, zipping up. He’s bored again, casual as he hands the glass to me by the top. “You can drink now.”
I do. I am shameless and desperate. I hold it with both hands and savor every drop, dirt and all.
He leaves before I finish, apparently not interested in watching me debase myself further.
I lie naked where he left me, legs in the letter K, bare skin on cold tile, the empty glass a few inches from my hand, watching the clouds form in the grid above me.
The door clicks and whooshes open. The room spins when I bolt to a sitting position. A tray of food, accompanied by a whole pitcher of water, is pushed across the threshold.
The door claps shut again, and the deadbolt smacked home.
I glance at the camera. He’s watching. He has to be.
I should stand up and walk like a human, but by the time I finish making that decision, I’m already crawling on my hands and knees like an animal.
The tray contains a plastic clamshell with a sandwich inside—pink meat spills from a circle of bread split into a pocket. Hushing the raging hunger for a moment, I peek into the pocket and find cheese and the familiarity of mayonnaise. A pink container of yogurt proudly proclaims—next to a bulbous strawberry—that it has REAL FRUIT inside.
I rip it open, ready to suck it down, but I stop.
I stand carefully, my head still swimming not just from my hunger and thirst and poor night’s sleep, but from what just happened. I walk over to my discarded pile of garments and put them on again: the underwear and bra, the ruined dress, my shoes—one close by and one under the camera. I slide the garter up my leg.
I leave the gloves and shard.
Then I put the tray on the counter, right a white plastic chair that matches the one on the roof, and—dressed in silk garments that were once a hopeful symbol of my purity but are now nothing more than a painful, ridiculous reminder of everything I have lost—I hydrate and nourish myself, dreaming of the day I escape the man named Dario with shadow eyes and an empty heart.

••••••••••

REVIEW: MERELY IMMORTAL is the third installment in T.A. Grey’s adult, contemporary THE UNTOUCHABLES erotic, paranormal romance series. This is vampire/rock star Lucas Blackmoore, and Evie’s storyline. MERELY IMMORTAL can be read as a stand alone although for backstory and cohesion I recommend reading the series in order as each consecutive installment builds upon the events of the previous storyline.

Told from several third person perspectives, following three intersecting premises MERELY IMMORTAL begins immediately after the events of TAKE ME (Untouchables #2) and the aftermath of the explosion and fire that killed Lucas Blackmoore’s girlfriend Beth. Beth was a human female, and the woman Lucas believed to be his ‘bruid’-his fated mate. But the relationship between Lucas and Beth came to a grinding halt when Beth caught Lucas in a compromising position, and her death began to push Lucas over the edge. When a mysterious female finds her way into Lucas’s life, Lucas begins to have visions of deja-vu about the woman who calls herself Evie- a woman who has no memory of her previous life; who is not quite vampire, not quite werewolf, and definitely no longer human. What ensues is the search for Evie’s past and her ‘maker’; and the mysterious woman known as ‘O’ who aided Evie when no one else would; and the use of dark magic in the world of the supernatural.

The relationship between Evie and Lucas is quick to build as there is a familiarity between our leading couple. Lucas is drawn to Evie but he is concerned that his awareness of Evie is due in part to the loss of Beth and his ongoing grief. The $ex scenes are intimate, provocative and intense. There is a definite pattern in the romance department throughout the series as it pertains to the quick turnover time between grief and finding a new love.

All of the previous storyline characters including Dom and Felicity, Gray and Ara, Vas, Diane, Julianna, crazed Alpha Were Zeke, and mercenary for hire Were Kane Gunner play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story. We are introduced to investigative reporter Tabitha, who may or may not have caught the eye of Kane Gunner.

The world building continues to focus on the Blackmoore family; the vampire/ were relationships; Arabelle’s continuing search for Zeke Hunter’s missing mate. There is also the potential for Vas to find his ‘bruid’ in an all too familiar female whose presence is unwelcome in the Blackmoore Estates.

MERELY IMMORTAL and the Untouchables Series are enchanting and imaginative. The premise is action packed and suspenseful; the characters are determined, charismatic and sensational; the romance comes with a bit of a twist but a twist that was easily detected from the very start. MERELY IMMORTAL is not as graphically violent as TEMPTING GRAY #2 which in and of itself is a bit of a relief-sometimes the violence can be overwhelming and take over the entire emotional feel of a storyline.

There are still a number of issues with spelling and grammar that need to be addressed and corrected. As mentioned in my previous reviews, another round of proof reading and thorough edits is advisable. Although the errors did not affect my enjoyment of the storyline(s), the problems are noticeable and distracting.

He may make the right decision, but is it too late to save his lies from hurting Felicity?

••••••••••

REVIEW: TAKE ME is the first installment in T.A.Grey’s contemporary, adult The Untouchables erotic, paranormal romance series. This is vampires Dominic Blackmoore, and events coordinator Felicity Shaw’s storyline.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Felicity and Dom) TAKE ME follows the building relationship between our leading couple. Felicity is hired as the organizer for Dom’s upcoming mating to a Blue Blood female vampire named Juliana, but is mistaken by the soon to be ‘groom’ as his intended ‘bruid’ –his mated bride. While Dominic Blackmoore begins a slow seduction of the woman he believes is his new mate, Felicity finds herself falling for the man she knows nothing about. What ensues is a forced friendship that leads to something more when Dominic professes his love for the woman who is not his intended mate. To add insult to injury our hero is running for the president of the paranormal council, and to ensure his victory, Dom needs to mate with someone of his class, and Felicity’s heritage screams low-born and below Dominic’s status.

The relationship between Dom and Felicity begins as a case of mistaken identity but Dom’s attraction to Felicity does not go unnoticed by family and friends. Dom’s need for Felicity drives a wedge between himself and his intended mate, but our heroine will not be the other woman-the mistress-to any man. For all intents and purposes Dominic’s arranged mating has everything to do with class and appearances, and nothing to do with love or friendship. Dom wants Felicity regardless of his mating status and is willing to make Felicity his mistress to keep her in his life. Felicity, on the other hand, is not willing to be the ‘other woman’ but continues to find herself in sexual situations with a man betrothed to someone else. The $ex scenes are intense, intimate and provocative.

We are introduced to Dominic’s extended family including his half brothers-Vas, musician Lucas and security specialist Grayson-Grayson’s story is heartbreaking and tragic. Dom’s mother Diane is a Blue Blood vampire; a woman of higher breeding and the one person who seeks her son’s happiness at all costs. We are also introduced to Felicity’s best friend Beth, whose attraction to Dom’s half-brother Lucas once bordered on obsession. Beth’s realistic dreams and fantasies about Lucas have yet to be explained or addressed. The requisite challenge to Dom’s leadership of the paranormal council comes in the form of ‘crazed alpha Were’ Zeke. Zeke’s need to win is more about finding mates for his pack brothers than preserving the vampire line of succession on the council.

The world building focuses on the existence of the supernatural races-Vampires and Weres. There is a tepid peace between the species one that must be addressed as the new paranormal council focuses on mating between species, same sex lovers, between different packs and clans.

TAKE ME may be a controversial storyline for some readers in that our ‘hero’ proves to a selfish jerk; an immature male who isn’t willing to remain faithful to the woman he is about to mate. Dom wants it all-a mate and a mistress, and for some this is a big no-no in a romance storyline. For Dom and his family, it is all about appearances, and mating a Blue Blood will give the appearance of power and control. IN the end our heroine does something rather stupid and insane, placing herself in the direct line of danger and the possibility of losing it all.

TAKE ME is an interesting and unusual look at a vampire romance where our hero’s need for the woman who calls to his heart is more of an obsession than a fated love match. The characters are controversial; the premise is imaginative. The happily ever after comes with a challenge

TEMPTING GRAY
(The Untouchables #2)
by T.A.Grey
Genre: adult, contemporary, paranormal romance

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 21, 2013

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / B&N /

It all began nearly 600 years ago…

A dangerous vampire, mated to a woman his heart no longer beats for.

A mistake that would change his entire life.

A mistake so horrific it would lead Grayson Blackmoore back to one woman.

A woman who holds the power to shatter him completely—Arabella Donahue.

Vengeance, bloodshed. The hunt is on and Grayson won’t stop until they’re all dead.

••••••••

REVIEW: TEMPTING GRAY is the second installment in T.A. Grey’s adult, contemporary THE UNTOUCHABLES paranormal romance series. This is vampire Grayson ‘Gray’ Blackmoore, and Were Arabella ‘Ara’ Donahue’s storyline. TEMPTING GRAY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although I suggest reading the series in order for backstory and history.

Told from several third person perspectives TEMPTING GRAY is first and foremost a story of revenge. Vampire Grayson Blackmoore is a security specialist whose latest assignment goes horribly wrong and in retaliation Grayson and everyone he loves is targeted for annihilation by the Donato family of psychotic vampires. In desperation, Grayson approaches the new President of the Supernatural Council –crazed Alpha Were Zeke Hunter-in the hopes of assistance in tracking down the vampires responsible for the destruction of his family and home. Enter Arabella Donahue, a non-shifting Were who has the ability to locate ‘missing’ objects, and the woman who has haunted Grayson’s dreams for close to one hundred years.

On the eve of his fated mating to his ‘bruid’ Anita of Redenver one hundred years earlier, Grayson met and fell for a mystery woman, and in the ensuing time he has never forgotten their heated kiss. Fast forward to present day, and Grayson’s fantasy woman is his only hope to locate the sadistic killers who destroyed his life. What ensues is the search for a family of psychotic vampires, and the festering guilt of a man who cannot forgive himself for the murder of his long-suffering wife.

The relationship between Gray and Ara is one of second chances. But for a fleeting kiss one hundred years earlier, Gray knew nothing about the woman that called to his heart as he was about to enter into an arranged marriage with his fated mate. Gray’s happiness is short lived when his ‘bruid’ (mated bride) goes off the rails and spirals into the depths of h*ll following two traumatic miscarriages, leaving Grayson a shadow of his former self. Reconnecting with Ara finds our hero torn between the grief and revenge for the loss of his mate, and the compelling need to seduce the woman he met years before. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.

All of the previous storyline characters play secondary and supporting roles including Grayson’s brother Dom and his ‘bruid’ Felicity (Take Me #1), as well as his brothers Vas and Lucas, and his mother Diane. Felicity’s best friend Beth has some major issues with vampire rock star Lucas, and her presence at the Blackmoore Estates will become a nightmare when the family is attacked in their own home. And we can’t forget about the crazed Alpha Were Zeke Hunter who is slowly going insane since the loss of his mate three hundred years ago.

TEMPTING GRAY is a graphically, violent storyline of retribution and vengeance as two families set out to destroy one another in retaliation for the murders of their beloved kin. The premise is entertaining and engaging; the characters are colorful and spirited; the romance is fateful and arousing but saying that the connection between Gray and Ara felt stilted due to Gray’s grief and his overwhelming need for revenge-the rekindling of a relationship between our leading couple begins a matter of hours to days following the murder of Gray’s wife and is understandably awkward and sad.

As to the book format and editing etc, there are several issues of grammar and spelling missteps in the storyline that could have been easily caught with another round of editing and a good proofreader. Perhaps the errors have already been addressed and updated at the e-retailers, but my copy had a number of problems that need to be corrected.

A future threatened…

When violence shatters their world, the past and present intertwine in ways none of them expected. Anticipating their enemy’s next move is the only way to keep their son safe, but what about their hearts?

Review:

Take Me by Ella Sheridan is the third book in her Southern Nights series. You don’t need to read them together, they stand alone from each other.

Peyton is following a trail, which leads her to her missing son, and to the man she gave her virginity to, Gabe Harrison. She plans to slowly build a life for herself, and in the process get her son back. Peyton wants to build a restaurant, and a new life in Claywater, but if Gabe is here, her plans may have to be altered.

Gabe and his brother are twins; they’ve always had a special bond, being able to sense each other’s emotions. They have also known that the woman they settle down with would be one they would share.

Peyton finds out that Gabe has a twin brother, one who he shares women with, and at first she is confused, as she has met and found Sam very attractive. Gabe finds out that their one night together, seven years ago, produced a son. And to say he isn’t happy is an understatement.

Sam is totally confused, seeing his brother going through a rough time, and he feels all these emotions for this woman. He begins to wonder if the feelings he has for Peyton are his or his brother’s.

A whole range of emotions are met in this book, with sadness to confusion, to lust and hate.

I wasn’t sure (two brothers and my ick factor went up), but it was a really good book. Two men ready to fight and die for you. The attraction between the three came across very strong. The interaction between Gabe and Peyton I felt was stronger than Peyton and Sam. I personally would have like a separate story for Sam. But saying that, I really enjoyed the book. It was a fast paced romance, with a few twists and plenty of tears.

Take Me (A Stark Novella) by J. Kenner-a review

Take Me

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

RELEASE DATE: December 3, 2013

Following The Stark Trilogy—the bestselling novels Release Me, Claim Me, and Complete Me—“Take Me” continues the story of Damien Stark and Nikki Fairchild, and introduces Evan Black, the enigmatic man at the center of J. Kenner’s upcoming novel, Wanted .

I’ve long dreamed of my fairy tale wedding, but it wasn’t until I met Damien Stark—who captured me with his kisses and undid me with his touch—that I began to believe it was my destiny. Though we both carry secrets and scars, our shared passion heals us, binding us together. We have surrendered to each other completely, and our mutual ecstasy is the brightest light in my life.

But darkness still snakes through the cracks in our armor. Ghosts from our past have moved in, bringing fresh pain that cuts deep and threatens to destroy everything we hold dear.

Damien is my anchor to this world, and I am his. But if we are going to keep each other, we have to fight the shadows of our pasts to move forward into our future.

“Take Me” is an erotic romance intended for mature audiences.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: TAKE ME is the epilogue novella in J.Kenner’s contemporary erotic Stark Trilogy focusing on Damien Stark and Nikki Fairchild. The ending of book three-Complete Me-we were left with a few open ended possibilities but in TAKE ME J. Kenner wraps up the series of Damien and Nikki with a fairy tale wedding and a surprise or two. There is also another potential storyline developing between Nikki’s BFF Jamie and Ryan Hunter-Damien’s head of security which could lead to a few more storylines or a novella or two.

The reader is pulled into the storyline three months after the events in Complete Me and a few days prior to Damien and Nikki’s wedding. With the upcoming nuptials Nikki’s nightmares have returned but a few well placed kisses and phone calls will prove to be effective especially when an unexpected guest makes her presence known. And in the end, Nikki will become Mrs. Damien Stark and our couple will fly off into the sunset (or sunrise) to ensure that no one will interfere again.

J. Kenner, by way of a series cross-over, introduces her next leading hero-Evan Black-in the upcoming release Wanted-the first instalment in her Most Wanted series. Evan is a long-time friend and business associate of Damien Stark and, we get a small glimpse into what this mystery man is capable of doing.

TAKE ME is a welcome storyline-one that is lighter in tone than the previous instalments but not without some controversy of its’ own. J. Kenner writes a storyline that is edgy, sensual and erotic, without any of the over-the-top angst of regret or what ifs and whys. Nikki will come into her own and take command when the time comes and I think every woman, may at one time or another, felt the same way that our heroine felt, when pushed one too many times.
