REVIEW:THREADED LIES is the second instalment in K. Bromberg’s contemporary, adult TANGLED HEARTS dark, erotic,romantic suspense trilogy focusing on thirty-two year old, billionaire businessman Holden Knight, and heiress Rowan Rothschild. THREADED LIES should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book one TWISTED KNIGHT.
SOME BACKGROUND: Fifteen years earlier Holden Knight’s life imploded, and a need for revenge is pushing our hero to destroy and take down everyone involved, starting with Rowan Rothschild, an innocent pawn in Holden’s game of retribution and power.
NOTE: If you have not read TWISTED KNIGHT, there may be spoilers in my review.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Rowan and Holden) picks up after the events of TWISTED KNIGHT in which Holden Knight, intent on revenge for sins of the past, has taken control of the Rothschild empire. Not only has Rowan gained control but in an effort to keep Rowan Rothschild close, has placed our heroine in the direct line of fire but secrets revealed expose a fifteen year plan of vengeance without Holden every having to expose the truth.
The world building focuses on the building but acrimonious relationship between Holden and Rowan, a relationship predicated upon lies and deceit. As Holden ferrets our plans to take down the people who destroyed his life, someone else is working behind the scenes to ensure nothing is revealed.
The relationship between Holden and Rowan is petulant and testy but Holden is currently holding all the cards, and the Rothschild’s empire is about to implode. Rowan begins to see the truth about her own family but the truth about Holden is harder to find. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
The secondary and supporting characters are colorful, somewhat questionable and without moral fibre: Rowan’s brother Rhett, and their parents Ruper and Emmaline Rothschild; Rowan’s best friend and attorney Sloane; Rhett’s best friend Chadwick Williams; investigator Bob; Holden’s PA Audrey; attorney Henry Williams, and real estate agent Jules Turner. The requisite evil has many faces.
THREADED LIES is a story of power and control, betrayal and vengeance, obsession and madness, money and power, control and corruption, family and relationships. The character driven premise is edgy and dramatic; the romance is limited but impassioned; the characters are desperate , determined and dynamic. THREADED LIES ends on a bliff hanger-you have been warned.
