REVIEW:  A BILLIONAIRE WOLF FOR CHRISTMAS is the twenty-sixth instalment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal, romance series. This is billionaire wolf shifter and researcher Dr. Aidan Denali, and Dr. Holly Gray’s story line. A BILLIONAIRE WOLF FOR CHRISTMAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Aidan and Holly) A BILLIONAIRE WOLF FOR CHRISTMAS follows the building relationship between wolf shifters Dr. Aidan Denali and Dr. Holly Gray. Aidan Denali is struggling to discover the reason behind the werewolve’s sudden decline in lifespan but with the approach of the holidays, our hero must take some time to visit family. Along with his two bodyguards Ted Gallagher and Mike Stallings, Aidan heads into town for some last minute shopping only to come face to face with his future-gray wolf shifter Dr. Holly Gray. An attempted kidnapping, and the search for an older, lone wolf pull our couple together as they begin to commiserate about the sudden aging process of a number of wolves. In the hopes of discovering the how and why, Aidan is desperate to check the blood of Holly’s Seattle pack- a pack whose members have not been affected by the mysterious disease. But trouble seems to stalk our story line hero as his presence is seen as a threat to the pack whose alpha is reluctant to allow outsiders in. What ensues is the building relationship between Aidan and Holly, and the potential fall-out as Holly’s alpha threatens the people she loves the most.

Holly’s family, and a number of her pack-mates are unhappy with their current leader, a man who leads by power and control. Hoping to work with Dr. Aidan Denali, Holly struggles with the possibility her family will be targeted when she leaves the pack.

The relationship between Holly and Aidan is quick to develop but Holly has another suitor that is reluctant to back down. Holly knows that Aidan could be her mate, and as our couple search for a cure, Aidan takes the next step in making Holly his own. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

A BILLIONAIRE WOLF FOR CHRISTMAS is a slow building storyline with an enormous amount of unnecessary filler and fluff information that had little to do with the actual story. The conflict between Aidan and the Alpha was quickly negated once the truth about the aging process was revealed, a revelation that brought about trouble for those in the clear. The premise is intriguing; the romance fated; the characters colorful and energetic but I struggled with the copious amount of irrelevant material that added to the slow building process.

Holly walked out to speak to her family, and saw Jared standing at the front door, her sister still holding onto the doorknob. Holly’s heart plummeted. With their sensitive hearing, she hoped he hadn’t overheard what they’d been discussing in her bedroom. Then again, they’d been keeping their voices low so that the rest of her family couldn’t hear what she was up to and Greg had closed the bedroom door.
“I thought we could go on a wolf run together, Holly.” Jared didn’t look like the prospect thrilled him.
“Thanks, but—”
“We’re going to make snowmen.” Greg smiled as if he were a kid again and was thrilled to build one. “That’s where we were headed. Now.”
“Me too,” Marianne quickly said, casting a glance at Holly, looking to see if she would go along with it.
“Snowmen.” Jared sounded like he didn’t believe them.
Holly hoped he didn’t offer to make one with them, but she loved her younger brother and sister for playing the game.
“I’ll clean up the dishes so you can go play,” their mom said, sounding amused.
Holly grabbed her parka, gloves, hat, and scarf and set them on the back of the couch so she could put them on. She hated getting her sister involved in this too.
Marianne grabbed her tasseled hat and pulled it on her head. Then she seized her jacket and put it on. “You can make your own, Jared.”
No, no, no, he couldn’t.
“Thanks, but I’ll pass,” Jared said, his gaze shifting from Marianne to Holly. “I’ll run with you later tonight then.”
She gave him a nod, then jerked on her parka. Greg was all ready to go and moved toward the door, showing his alpha nature by trying to force Jared out of the way. Jared smiled darkly at Greg.
“Last one to make a snowman is a rotten egg,” Greg called out, racing off.
“Best one wins, not the fastest one made,” his sister said, still tying her scarf round her neck and tore off after him.
Now what? They’d take forever making three snowmen. And she’d miss meeting Aidan and his men. He’d worry, and she wouldn’t be able to call him. No doubt he’d already be on his way to the meeting place in his wolf coat.
Jared stepped out of Holly’s way, and she hurried outside.
“Later,” Jared said to Holly, and left.
He wasn’t even interested in dating her, so why the change of heart? The business with Aidan at the mall yesterday? Maybe he’d like a hug too? Never!
Holly raced after her sister and brother and found them about a quarter of a mile away, starting to build the bases of their snowmen.
“What is going on with you?” Marianne asked, shoving another handful of snow onto the base.
“We’re on a mission that you shouldn’t know about,” Greg said, slapping a snowball against his snowman.
“A mission,” Marianne said, glancing at Holly.
“To look for Nick,” Holly said.
“Well, you said that already.” Marianne tilted her chin down. “There’s more to it than that. And I want to help.”
“No.” Greg grabbed another two handfuls of snow. “It’s too dangerous.”
“If it’s too dangerous, the two of you shouldn’t be going. You know Jared will check later to see if you built your snowmen or not,” Marianne said.
Holly saw her parents headed their way. Great.
“Looks like it’s about time to tell the family what you’re up to,” Greg said.
“So, there’s more to this business of you looking for…ohmigod, you’re going to meet up with Aidan Denali, aren’t you! I want to go too,” Marianne said.
Holly thought her sister had a crush on Aidan, or maybe one of his bodyguards. “No. I didn’t want any of you to know about it.”
“Know about what?” their mother asked. To Holly’s surprise her mom and dad began to build a snowman.
“I’m meeting with Aidan and his bodyguards to search for Nick.”
Her parents stopped working on the snowman and straightened.
“I didn’t want to have to tell you because I didn’t want you to get into any trouble with the pack over it.”
“I’m going with her. I have to see this guy she’s got the hots for.” Greg smiled at her and she grabbed a wad of snow, made a snowball, and threw it at him. He dodged it, but it splatted on his shoulder.
“I’m just doing what I always do, except I’m running with them for protection,” Holly said.
“We’ll finish your snowmen. Go, take off.” Her dad smiled a little.
Her mom worked faster. “Eddie, keep adding snow.”
Holly couldn’t believe her parents would cover for her like this.
“Me too?” Marianne asked, looking hopeful.
“No, not you,” their mother quickly said. “You’re supposed to run with Joey’s family tonight. And you have to make your own snowman. No telling how long Holly’s little adventure is going to last.”
Marianne sighed, but hurried over to give Holly a hug. “Give him a kiss for me?”
“We’ll be wolves.” Holly hugged her back. Then she started heading in the direction where she would be meeting Aidan and the others.
“Just strip and shift, and we’ll take your things with us so no one finds your clothes out here,” her mother said.
Just in case anyone happened to be watching them from a long distance off, both Holly and Greg went into the woods and stripped, and then shifted.
“Be careful, the both of you,” their dad said.

REVIEW: ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND WOLF is the twenty-fifth instalment in Terry Spear’s contemporary adult HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal, romance series. This is Silver Town wolf Shifter Sarandon Silver, and bounty hunter, she-wolf Jenna St. James’s story line. ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND WOLF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from third person perspective including Sarandon and Jenna, ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND WOLF focuses on wildlife tour operator and wolf shifter Sarandon Silver’s determination to prove his innocence when he is mistakenly targeted by a she wolf bounty hunter. Enter Jenna St. James, bounty hunter and wolf shifter, and the female with whom Sarandon will fall in love. What ensues is the slow building story line and romance between Jenna and Sarandon, as they search for the wolf impersonating our story line hero-a wolf whose resemblance to Sarandon goes more than skin deep.

ALL’S FAIR IN LOVE AND WOLF is a detailed and complex tale with a large ensemble case of secondary and supporting characters; many twists and turns that bring our couple in contact with another pack, a couple of rogue wolves, and the probability that not only is Sarandon targeted in a case of mistaken identity but identity theft as well. The premise is cleverly written; the romance is slow to build as our couple struggle with the possibility of a long-distance relationship as such that neither one is willing to walk away from family and friends; the numerous characters are passionate and spirited including the introduction of the St. James family; the leading couple is energetic and sensual.

CJ removed his deputy cowboy-style gray hat. He was wearing a denim jacket and cowboy boots, and had a badge affixed to his belt. His hair was as dark brown as Sarandon’s, but less wavy. His eyes were a lighter brown, but there was an obvious similarity between the two brothers. And Jake and Darien, for that matter.
Like Darien, CJ was unsmiling, but unlike the pack leader, CJ didn’t offer to shake Jenna’s hand. She suspected CJ was looking out for his older brother, and as far as the deputy was concerned, she was the enemy wolf, ready to arrest Sarandon. CJ wasn’t going to pretend friendship, which she appreciated. She much preferred meeting everyone at face value. Otherwise, she felt like she’d stepped into a Stepford Wolves town.
Alicia hurried into the living room wearing jeans and a T-shirt and sandals. She had dark-brown curls hanging to her shoulders , and her dark-brown eyes widened when she saw Jenna. “Sorry, I had to take a call from the sitter. It’s so good to see you again, Jenna. I’m Alicia, now Jake’s mate.”
“And a wolf.” Jenna didn’t know Alicia well, although she’d heard rumors the bounty hunter was going after a mob boss single-handedly. Jenna’s family had talked about how they’d never take on a mob boss. They’d thought Alicia was either the bravest woman in the business, or a little bit crazy. Jenna had met her at the El Paso County Jail and Criminal Justice Center in Colorado Springs when they were bringing in a couple of bail jumpers, but Alicia had been human then.
“Yeah, big changes in my life. I never suspected you were a wolf either.”
“I was born a wolf.” Jenna couldn’t imagine how difficult it would be to not only have the issues with shifting while raising kids, but also those related to working a job. She could see the benefits of living in a wolf-run town if the wolf was newly turned.
“Don’t you find that makes you see someone differently? When you learn the person you’re talking to is a wolf and not just human? Like you have a secret you can share with him that you can’t with others?” Alicia asked.
Jenna glanced at Sarandon. He smiled a little. “Yeah, but not as far as doing my job.” She returned his smile.
His smile only grew. He was so cocky.
In truth, Alicia was right. Knowing he was a wolf made a lot of difference—but only because of the way he’d pinned her down and the physical interest they’d shown in each other. She was beginning to think he was innocent, and that meant she was even more intrigued with him.
“Honey, what would you like to drink?” Jake asked his mate.
“I’ll have what Lelandi’s drinking,” Alicia said.
“I’m good,” CJ said to Jake as he brought in the other drinks.
“Sarandon?”
“A beer.”
Jake smiled at Sarandon. “Yeah, me too.”
After Jake finished getting drinks for everyone, they all took their seats, except for CJ. He stood near the fireplace, arms folded across his chest, looking like he was ready to arrest her! He towered over everyone who was sitting, making him king of the forum. It was an act of intimidation any good deputy sheriff would use to ensure he had the upper hand. If he’d wanted to give the impression he was treating Jenna as an equal, he would have joined them on one of the couches.
From what she could tell, Lelandi was the easygoing pack leader, and Darien played the role of the tough pack leader.
She wondered if Lelandi was a family physician, since she had canceled on her patients. Jenna guessed none of the cases needed immediate care, or Lelandi would have taken care of them. It went to show how important Sarandon was to her. Jenna couldn’t help but admire the pack for that.
“Okay, so what makes you think Sarandon has committed any crime?” Darien asked, getting the matter on the table.
To CJ’s credit, he pulled out a notepad and began taking notes. Jenna had thought he might be totally arrogant and dismiss her concern completely, as if she had no say in any of it and they would take care of it.
She pulled her phone from her jacket pocket and began listing all the acts of fraud the perp had committed.
“So, let me get this straight,” CJ said.
She knew he was going to be a hard-ass. Mostly because he was Sarandon’s brother, but also because he was the law. And this was his jurisdiction. “Ask away.”
“An identity thief uses one of the identities he has on him, and everyone believes that’s his true identity. Why?”

Stranded in the wilderness, these warring hearts will be forced to work together―or die together.

Gavin Summerfield―an arctic wolf shifter with a fear of flying―has to fly into the vast lakeland wilderness of northern Minnesota to track down his suspect―where his ability to shift will come in very handy. Imagine his chagrin when his pilot turns out to be the woman who tasered him last time they saw each other. Things are off to a rocky start…again.

Arctic wolf shifter Amelia White isn’t entirely displeased to see Gavin again, but priorities shift when their plane is sabotaged and goes down in the middle of nowhere. As their attraction grows, Amelia hopes Gavin doesn’t discover the secret she’s been keeping…she knows he could never forgive her.

••••••••••

REVIEW: FLIGHT OF THE WHITE WOLF is the third instalment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult WHITE WOLF paranormal, romance series –a spin off and companion to the author’s Heart of the Wolf series. This is Arctic wolf shifter and private investigator Gavin Summerfield, and Arctic wolf shifter and pilot Amelia White’s story line. FLIGHT OF THE WHITE WOLF can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Gavin and Amelia) FLIGHT OF THE WHITE WOLF follows the building relationship between Arctic wolf shifters- private investigator Gavin Summerfield, and pilot Amelia White. Seven years earlier, then police detective and a very human Gavin Summerfield, came face to face with Amelia White, as part of an on-going investigation into a series of dog-nappings that took our hero to the Alaskan north. Fast forward to present day, wherein Gavin, a six year old Arctic wolf shifter, will be reunited with Amelia White when the plane he hired as part of a private investigation goes down under suspicious circumstances. What ensues is the building and fated romance between Amelia and Gavin as they search for the truth behind the possibility of sabotage against Amelia’s aircraft, and the possible connections to a jewel heist years before.

FLIGHT OF THE WHITE WOLF follows Amelia and Gavin as they begin to dissect and evaluate the ‘who, what and why’ of a possible saboteur against our leading couple. From their previous meetings, to an earlier plane crash years before, Amelia and Gavin slowly and methodically work through the clues as they put together a possible reason for an attack against one or the other- but saying that -there is absolutely no panic, no angst, no fight for their lives as though the a plane crash and possible sabotage are every day occurrences-in this I struggled to get emotionally involved with our leading couple.

The relationship between Amelia and Gavin is slow to develop although Gavin’s inner wolf knows he has found his mate. Having met on two previous occasions, our couple believe fate pulled them together but someone is trying to tear them apart. The $ex scenes are limited and I struggled to feel any emotional depth between our leading couple.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including several members of an employee’s workshop, one of whom Gavin is investigating for a well-to-do client.

FLIGHT OF THE WHITE WOLF is an intriguing story line; a plot driven tale that got lost in the disappointing relationship build up of our leading couple; A strong beginning that floundered through the middle but eventually picked up with the couple’s return to civilization.

As a wolf, Gavin wouldn’t feel the cold like he did as a human. But he couldn’t remove his clothes right now and shift. Besides, as soon as he was in the raft, he had every intention of taking over the paddling so Amelia could strip and shift to warm up.
At least in the dry packs, he had clothes they could wear, two single sleeping bags—in case one got wet—a tent, a tarp, and food, to keep them going until someone came and picked up Amelia. He still had a mission and he wasn’t giving it up for anything. He was damn glad he’d rescued his canoe. He looked back at the plane that could no longer be seen. It could still be just below the surface, but with the roughness of the waves and the darkness of the day, it was impossible for him to tell.
“Gavin, you’ve got to be freezing.”
“The storm’s coming in fast and furious. You know how they are. It isn’t safe out here with the lightning closing in on us. We need to take cover.” He was stuttering a bit from the cold. “How do you feel? Are you sure you’re okay?” She was cut up and bruised. But as long as she wasn’t badly injured, she’d heal quickly with their enhanced, wolf healing genetics.
“I’m good. What about you? You look a little banged up.” Amelia finally reached him and tossed him a rope.
He tied his canoe to the raft and then figured it would be just as difficult to climb from the canoe into the raft as it would be to jump into the water, and use the ladder to climb into the raft. As much as he hated to get into the cold lake again, he opted for showing off his agility skills—which, as cold as he was, were poorly lacking. “Nothing that won’t heal up soon. Besides, I’m roughing it.”
With an arm and leg over the raft, the rest of his body in the canoe, he struggled to make it into the raft as she steadied the canoe.
Once he collapsed in the bottom of the raft, he said, “Go ahead and take off your clothes and shift.”
“No. You’ve been in the water for far too long. You need to shift first.”
He was going to argue, that at the water’s temperature between 68 and 70 degrees, they could last twelve hours if they’d been floating in the lake all that time, but she picked up the paddle again and headed toward shore.
“All right. For a few minutes, and then I’ll take over.” He began to remove his clothes, but he was having so much trouble untying his boots, she set the paddle down, and began to help him. They finished untying them, and she pulled them off. She tugged off his socks, and then helped him out of his life vest.
Her fingers were numb too, and she was having trouble with his zipper. She finally managed to unzip his cargo pants, while he removed his T-shirt. He tugged off his cargo pants. “This life vest won’t fit right on a wolf,” she said.
“I can swim without it if I need to.” He pulled off his boxers. He wasn’t planning on being a wolf for very long. Off in the distance, streaks of lightning struck the ground and thunder boomed only a mile away. “We need to take cover from the thunderstorm. Maybe I should just skip shifting.”
“One of us needs to be a wolf. We can switch off after a while.”
He wanted her to warm up and he’d paddle the rest of the way in. Between the cold-water shock to their systems, the terror of experiencing the plane crash, helping to pull Winston into the raft, and all the paddling she’d already done, she had to be exhausted. He was naked now, and calling on the shift, feeling the heat suffuse every cell in his body, warming him like a nice hot bath deep inside. And then he was a wolf, his thick, double coat of fur able to deflect the water.
“I’m glad you rescued your canoe, but not happy with the way you could have drowned yourself.”
He had to try, but he realized she was right and he hadn’t wanted her to be struggling with this on her own either.
She began to paddle again. “I have to say you’re beautiful, as a wolf.”
He moved toward her, licked her cheek, and settled next to her to share his heat, his head resting on her lap.
“Now, that’s nice.”
He woofed in agreement. He still didn’t like that she was so cold, but he was glad he could help her out in any way that he could. He hoped she didn’t believe she had to save the day now that the plane had crashed. He looked down at his wolf nails and the raft, hoping he didn’t puncture the rubber. He trimmed his nails regularly so that when he was a wolf, they wouldn’t be too long. He glanced at Winston. His were nice and trimmed too. He was sitting up, ears perked, nose sniffing at the wind. He seemed to be happy with the boat excursion now, out in the wilderness, smelling all the interesting scents. Gavin imagined he’d never been out here before and everything would be new to him.
Rain began to fall on them and Gavin wished that it would have held off a bit. It wouldn’t reach his skin, but he needed to shift and take over. Then he had an idea. His raingear was in one of the bags. He could shift, dress in dry clothes, and put the raingear on and then Amelia could shift into her wolf. Why hadn’t he thought of that before he shifted and it began to rain? He was certain hypothermia had messed with his thought processes.
She’d been paddling for some time before he finally shifted. “I’ll take us the rest of the way in now. You need to wear your wolf coat and warm up.”
“All right.” She kept paddling while he dug out some of his clothes.
“Good thing you have raingear.”
“Yeah, but I sure wished I’d thought of it earlier. Rain jacket too, for lighter rains, but you need to just shift and get warm.”
“I will, as soon as you’re dressed. We’re drifting back out because the winds have shifted, so I’m fighting against the wind to keep us going in the right direction.”
“Do you see the cliffs? Where there’s a rock ledge for shelter?” He pulled on some board shorts, at least they would dry out fast and were meant for the water, no shoes, a T-shirt, and the rain jacket and pants, just to keep him warmer in the chilly breeze.
“Yeah. It should give us some protection from the elements.”
“Agreed. Okay, I’ll take over. Go ahead and strip.”
Shivering from the cold, she let out her breath. “I bet you say that to all the women you see.”

•••••••••••

REVIEW: HEART OF THE WOLF is the first instalment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal, romance series focusing on the lupus garou-wolf shifter. This is red wolf Bella Wilder, and gray wolf Devlyn Greystoke’s story line.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Bella and Devlyn) HEART OF THE WOLF follows the second chance romance between wolf shifters Bella Wilder, and Devlyn Greystoke. Approximately 160 years earlier red wolf shifter Bella Wilder lost her entire family to a fire that all but destroyed her life. Taken in by the local gray wolf pack, our heroine found herself the target of the pack alpha Volan-a powerful, controlling and abusive wolf who was determined to make Bella his mate…but Bella was in love with someone else, a wolf whose own life would be forfeited if Bella acted upon her feelings and attraction. On the run to save both of their lives Bella would come face to face with her past when the man that she loved was forced to bring our heroine back to the pack. Enter Devlyn Greystoke, Bella’s would be mate, and the man with whom our heroine had fallen in love. What ensues is the rekindling romance between Devlyn and Bella; the potential fall out when Bella, as one of the few remaining red wolf shifter in existence, is targeted by her own kind; and the hunt for a potential serial killer –a red wolf shifter-targeting women with red hair.

HEART OF THE WOLF introduces several characters including Devlyn’s cousins Tanner and Heath; gray alpha pack leader Volan; Bella’s father figure and fellow gray wolf Argos; red wolf shifters Alfred, Nicol and Ross; local animal control Harry Thompson; and Bella’s neighbour and best friend Chrissie.

The world building reveals some of the background of the wolf shifter with each ‘wolf pack’ connecting to a similar yet differing story. The reader is pulled into the violent world of the shifter-the fight to the death for power and control- their civilization and practices-and the struggle to find a mate when the human world is determined to destroy them all.

HEART OF THE WOLF is a story of second chances; of family and friendship; of betrayal and revenge. The premise is entertaining; the characters are strong and charismatic; the romance is fated and passionate. An enjoyable story line with a few twists and turns as two shifters find love on the run.

NIGHT WOLF by Terry Spear

NIGHT WOLF by Terry Spear is a novella length story line included with my copy of HEART OF THE WOLF. NIGHT WOLF focuses on Bella’s long lost sister Serena Wilder, and Devlyn’s cousin Tanner Graystoke.

Approximately 160 years earlier red wolf shifter Serena Wilder thought she lost her entire family to a fire that ravaged the forest and surrounding area where she and her family once lived. Taken in by a human family, as one of their own, Serena grew up, on the other side of the country, never having contact with her own kind until she ventured off on her own only to be robbed and taken advantage of by a man she trusted-a gray wolf shifter who took everything and ran. Remembering the hidden box in her woodland, family home Serena Wilder will return to the Colorado Rockies only to discover the new inhabitants are four gray wolf shifter brothers who mistake our heroine as someone from her past. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Tanner and Serena as they go in search of the man who robbed Serena of her money and her pride.

NIGHT WOLF is a quick read; a sweet and sexy story line of fated mates, retribution and revenge. The premise is charming; the characters are charismatic; the romance is seductive and hot.

excerpt

“It’s a picture of me.” He glanced back at the photo he’d set upright on her night¬stand. “Great image, too. One of my better pictures.”
“What of it? It was too big to fit on the fridge. I told him not to send any more that size because they’re too big.”
Devlyn pulled the back of the frame open, and she knew he’d discover the truth.
“You’ve had this one enlarged. Gives a photo ID on the back, a local Oregon printer. You had a smaller ver¬sion of the same photo on the fridge, probably the one he sent you.” He cast her an elusive smile.
She pursed her lips.
Pulling the covers back down, he exposed her breasts to the cool air in the bedroom. Instantly, the nipples turned into pert red peaks. He leaned over and kissed one and then the other, making them throb with need.
But she couldn’t mate with him, as much as her body readied itself to accept his virile strength. She’d endanger him too much if she gave into her primal instincts, her deep-seated cravings for the gray. She touched his whis¬kery cheek. “You were supposed to sleep on the couch.”
“You’ve been keeping my image close to your bed. Now you can keep the flesh and blood me in your bed.” He climbed into bed next to her and touched her cheek. “Tell me how much you love me, Bella. Tell me how many times you wrote to whoever it was, asking about me.”
“He didn’t tell me you searched for me.”
“Who didn’t tell you?”
She sensed the tightness in his voice, the way he barely curbed his anger. “It’s late. We need to sleep.”
He ran his tongue down her belly, forcing a quiver of anticipation. “I won’t quit asking until you tell me. Who was it?”
Giving up the guarded secret, she sighed heavily and admitted, “Argos.”
Devlyn stilled his actions and growled, irritated that the old wolf hadn’t told him the truth. How he had longed to know what had become of Bella all those years. When he’d spoken to Argos, the sly old wolf had assured him she’d be all right. He should have known Argos knew what had happened to her. “Damn him.”
“I shouldn’t have told you. I wrote to let him know I was safe after I ran away. I couldn’t let him think I’d died. From then on, we corresponded.”
“No wonder he knew it was you in that news report. I figured he had some kind of a sixth sense. But all along he knew you lived in the area.” He studied her eyes, tired and wary. The annoyance he felt that Argos had kept the secret about Bella faded into wry amusement. “You wanted to know about me, about how I fared.”
“Don’t be so conceited.”
Knowing she disguised the truth, his lips curved up. His intense craving to mate with her filled him with an ache he longed to fulfill. He threaded his fingers through her satiny hair and licked her throat. She moaned. His erection pulsed with renewed gusto. His instincts were right concerning her. She wanted him as much as he lusted after her.
He pressed his arousal against her soft body. “You know how much I desire to have you, Bella. Tell me you want me, too.”
Shaking her head, her eyes misted.
He growled at her stubbornness. Then he nuzzled his cheek against hers, enjoying the delicate ivory fra¬grance she’d washed with, hoping she’d succumb to his advances. He ran his finger over her firm nipple. “I won’t let Volan have you. We’ll return to the pack and then—”
“No. He’ll kill you. I don’t want you for a mate. Don’t you understand?” She tried to pull away from him, her voice heated with anger. “I don’t want you.”
But he recognized from her words and actions that it wasn’t true; he’d use every trick he knew to convince her to tell the truth.

Romance writer Candice Mayfair never missed a deadline in her life–until the playful bite of a werewolf puppy accidentally turns her into an Arctic wolf shifter. Talk about a life-changing event! Candice is at the end of her rope with the unpredictable shifting, a strong desire to howl, and the need to vacuum constantly to keep the shedding fur under control.

Enter werewolf private investigator Owen Nottingham. Owen has a new mission: convince the pretty she-wolf she needs to join his pack in time for Christmas…and be his mate. It’s the only way he can think of to keep her safe…

••••••••••••

REVIEW:  DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is the first installment in Terry Spear’s spin off, contemporary, adult WHITE WOLF paranormal, romance series and the twenty third installment in the continuing HEART OF THE WOLF series. This is Arctic white wolf shifter PI Owen Nottingham, and paranormal author/white wolf Candice (aka Clara Hart) Mayfair’s story line. DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines and series is revealed where necessary. As well, some of the characters and couples cross over from the author’s HEART OF THE JAGUAR series including Arctic wolf shifters Cameron and Faith MacPherson, and their wolf pup Corey whom we met in A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS (October 2016).

Told from dual third person perspectives (Owen and Candice) DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS follows the search for reluctant heiress Clara Hart. Two years earlier, while camping with some friends, Clara’s life changed the night she attempted to feed a hungry looking white wolf cub- a werewolf Arctic shifter-who accidently bit and transformed our story line heroine. Fast forward to present day and our heroine, who now goes by her professional name author Candice Mayfair, finds herself a lone wolf in a world she brings to life in her popular romance novels. Enter private investigator and Arctic wolf shifter Owen Nottingham, and the man with whom Candice will fall in love. What ensues is the quick building relationship between Candice and Owen, and the potential fall out as Candice and Owen battle the clock, and their shifts, as the deadline to claim Clara’s inheritance is fast approaching.

DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is a sweet story of family and friendship; of one man who discovers his other half; and one woman who finally finds a place where she belongs. There is no conflict between our leading couple; their attraction to one another is immediate and intense; Owen knows he has found the mate that calls to his heart. The $ex scenes are passionate; Clara/Candice’s questions about life as a wolf are entertaining and educational.

We are introduced to Owen’s business partners, friends and fellow Arctic wolf shifters David Davis, and Gavin Summerfield, as well as the familiarity of Cameron and Faith MacPherson, and their triplet wolf pups; Candice /Clara’s uncle Strom Hart, and Montana homicide detective Rowdy Sanderson who is aware of the supernatural world of shifters.

DREAMING OF A WHITE WOLF CHRISTMAS is a predictable but cute story line; an easy read. The author’s writing style is almost too simple for an adult novel. I don’t know when or where the change in style began but there is something different in the water-downed presentation within the last few tales of Terry’s paranormal shifters. The conflict is limited; everyone gets along; there is no competition for the few female shifters that are potential mates to the numerous single males. I am looking forward to Gavin and David’s storyline, as well as the possibility that Clara’s Uncle Strom will find someone to love.

excerpt

Candice had been writing for two days straight, working on her publisher’s book deadline, when she wrote the ending, smiled, and set the book aside. She would start proofing it tomorrow after she’d given her brain a break. Now she’d do what she always did when she finished a book or reached a good stopping point in one. Clean house. Check her backlog of emails. Pick up some more groceries. And take a run on the wolf side. She finished vacuuming and dusting, swearing every window must let in all the outdoors, and then started a batch of gingerbread cookie cutouts to celebrate the Christmas holiday season and finishing another book. While they were baking, she finally settled down to check her emails. Fan mail always came first, and one from her website got her attention right off. She opened it and read:

Hello, I’m Owen Nottingham, private investigator for White River Investigations, White River Falls, Minnesota. My client, Strom Hart, hired me to locate you. Your parents, John and Cynthia Hart, left you an inheritance, and you need to see the lawyer about it so you can claim it. I need to verify that
you are the right woman first. Is there any way we could meet and get this taken care of so you can collect your inheritance? Strom Hart will be the one to receive it by the end of the month otherwise. His assistant, Jim Winchester, said Mr. Hart is your uncle.

Candice reread the message, not believing her eyes, tears filling them. She quickly looked at the date of the message. Two days ago! She knew she shouldn’t have neglected her emails, but when she was into a story, she couldn’t break away.

She ground her teeth, raised her fingers to respond, and heard a knocking at her door. No one came here. Never. Ever. Not even salesmen.

She glanced at her phases-of-the moon calendar. The waxing gibbous was just beginning. She should be fine. Just to be on the safe side, in case the person at the door was trouble, she pulled a can of mace from her desk drawer and headed for the door. She peered through the peephole. Waiting at the door was a handsome black-haired man with rugged features and intense blue eyes. He was dressed in a black suit, a red shirt, and a dark-purple tie covered in red, purple, and gold Christmas balls. She raised her brows.

“I’m Owen Nottingham,” he said to the door, holding up his PI license and driver’s license. He couldn’t know that she was watching him, so he must have hoped she was there, observing him. “I tried getting ahold of you through the contact form on your website about your inheritance. Your contact form might not be working, so I had to locate you in person.”
So this was the man who had sent the message. Was he for real? He had to be. He wouldn’t have come all this way to see her if he wasn’t. But how had he found her?

Candice opened the door, the bells jingling on her Christmas wreath, and the man glanced down at the can of mace in her hand. He smiled, his gaze holding hers with such intensity that it was as though he could see clear through to her soul. “Really, just a PI doing my job.”

A chilly breeze carried his scent to her. Wolf scent. All at once, she felt so light-headed that she grabbed the door to keep herself upright and dropped the can of mace on the tile floor. It clattered, but she couldn’t have reached for it if her life depended on it.

Oh. My. God.

This couldn’t be real. He couldn’t be real. No wonder he’d been talking to the door. He must have heard her footfalls as she’d approached.

He took a deep breath at the same time, and when he smelled her scent, his eyes widened in surprise. His hand shot out to grab her arm and steady her. For a minute, she tried to control her breathing and her heart rate, neither of which she could steady. She felt like she was going to pass out.

“Hell, you’re the wolf I saw across the White River, aren’t you?”

Her jaw dropped, and her knees buckled. He swept her up in his arms and she wanted to object, but he slammed the door behind him with his hip and carried her into the house. He was the wolf she’d seen across the river that day on the camping trip in Minnesota two years ago, sipping from the water? She still remembered it like it was yesterday. Him looking up and seeing her staring at him while she’d believed she was hallucinating.

Until the next night, and then she knew she hadn’t been dreaming at all.

About the book: Release Date August 1, 2017

Never be so foolish as to fall for the enemy…
Special wolf agent Jillian Matthews has joined the jaguar-run United Shifter Force to track down a deadly criminal. She’s even willing to work with PI Vaughn Greystroke―until the hot, growly SEAL wolf makes the mistake of getting in her way. Naturally, she shoots him. Who could blame her?

Vaughn Greystroke has always worked alone. But when a string of attempted murders puts him in the crosshairs, teaming up with the Shifter Force begins to sound like a good idea. Even if he has to work with alluring―and potentially treacherous―Jillian Matthews. Vaughn is a trained SEAL, after all. He can surely keep his distance from Jillian…no matter how much she’s getting under his skin.

•••••••••••

REVIEW: SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER is the twenty-second installment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal, romance series. This is PI and former SEAL Vaughn Greystroke, and Special wolf agent Jillian Matthews’ story line. SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER crosses over with the HEART OF THE JAGUAR series, as the author continues to build the USF-United Shifter Force headed by the jaguar team of Demetria, Everett and Howard first introduced in A Very Jaguar Christmas .

Told from dual third person perspectives (Vaughn and Jillian) SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER follows the search for a potential killer. Vaugn Greystroke’s Colorodo pack mate and friend Douglas Wendish was attacked and left for dead while on vacation in the backwoods of Oregon, and the first person to stumble upon the scene is Special wolf agent Jillian Matthews, who shoots first and asks questions later including shooting our hero Vaughn Greystroke. But Vaughn struggles with the possibility that Jillian’s brother Miles is a suspect and the fact that Miles refuses to come forward places Vaughn in an awkward position as he quickly comes to realize that Jillian is his mate. Enter jaguar shifters Demetria, Everett and Howard, who along with Jillian and Vaughn, set out to hunt for the shifter responsible. What ensues is the fast-building relationship between Jillian and Vaughn, and the realization that Douglas Wendish kept secret his reasons for his most recent vacation

SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER is a detailed story with mystery, intrigue, family, friendship, romance and love. There are moments of humor and fun, action and danger, sexy times and a happily ever after. The relationship between Jillian and Vaughn begins as a case of mistaken identity as Vaughn targets Miles, and Jillian targets the shifter threatening her brother. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive. The sexual energy was low key as the story line focused on the search for the truth and the hunt for a potential killer. Jillian’s brother Miles struggles for meaning in his life but what he finds are lies and betrayal.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including both wolf and jaguar shifters. The requisite evil has many faces but not all necessarily with the same end-game in mind.

SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER is a lighthearted, spirited and energetic look at the supernatural. The premise is engaging; the characters are colorful and passionate; the romance is intimate and fated. SEAL WOLF UNDERCOVER is a satisfying and delightful addition to Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal series.

How do you develop your hero and heroine? Do the ideas come to you fully formed, or do you figure them out as you write?

Creating characters is fun, but I don’t make lists of their likes or dislikes. Or faults and strengths. I think that’s what makes them so interesting to me.

While I’m writing about my hero and heroine, they come to life in the situations they have to deal with. Conflict helps to show what they’re made of and everyone will handle a different scenario in their own unique way based on their life experiences. But I don’t know what they are, oftentimes, until I’m writing the story. It really depends on the story too.

When I was writing about Sarandon Silver in The Bounty Hunter Gets Her Wolf, the heroine is brand new to the scene, but he isn’t. He’s been in several Silver Town stories, and so he has a rich history of trouble with the pack, mostly concerning his father, the former sheriff of Silver Town. That means I have to use previous stories, his life history, to ensure he’s true to his character from the past.

With SEAL Wolf Undercover, SEAL wolf Vaughn Greymere has been in one other story as a secondary character. But I was also tying him in with the jaguars, who have been in other stories, and a brand new gray wolf, Jillian…to the scene. I wanted to open up the story where the two wolves see each other and admire each other, but don’t really meet. I wanted Vaughn to show the kind of stuff he’s made of. At a jaguar dance club, he believes a dancer on one of the high platforms that breaks away, is about to fall to her death, and being a SEAL, and an alpha wolf, and a hero type, he rushes to rescue her. This makes a great impression on Jillian, though she doesn’t know he’s a SEAL or a wolf. Or that jaguar shifters existed at that time.

They’re all thrown in together later—the jaguars and wolves—to search for whoever has injured wolves and jaguars. Only he believes Jillian’s brother is the suspect and she shoots Vaughn to protect her brother.
And that’s how it all begins when he actually meets her. He’s hot, naked, wounded, and she can’t help the way her pheromones are telling her this guy is the one she needs in her life, when he’s out to get her brother! And Vaughn’s sure she’s protecting her brother when he’s the one they need to be taking down. Though, despite her shooting Vaughn, he can’t help but want to keep her in his sights. And more.

Every hero and every heroine has their own past, their weaknesses and strengths, their dreams and goals, their likes and dislikes and all of these things help to mold them into the characters they are today. But I only learn this as they go through all their trials. In the beginning, all I know is they have to be in a situation that changes their life in some way and how the hero and heroine meet. This will also have something to do with who they are—their jobs, their goals, their dreams. And from there, the story and their characters unfold.

In Silver Town, the secrets run deep…

Alpha werewolf Brett Silver has an ulterior motive when he donates a prized family heirloom to the Silver Town hotel. Ellie MacTire owns the place with her sisters, and he’s out to get her attention.

Ellie is even more special than Brett knows. She’s a wolf-shifter with a unique ability to commune with the dead. Ellie has been ostracized, so she protects herself and those she loves by revealing nothing-not even when strange and dangerous things begin to happen in Silver Town. And especially not to the devastatingly handsome and generous wolf who’s determined to win her over.

REVIEW: BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is the twenty first installment in Terry Spear’s contemporary, adult HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal, romance series focusing on the shifter wolves of Silver Town. This is Alpha werewolf Brett Silver, and Silver Town hotel co-owner Ellie MacTire’s story line. BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from several third person perspectives including Brett and Ellie BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is a ghost-story mystery. When the MacTire sister’s bought and renovated the old Silver Town hotel they didn’t expect unwanted guests including a couple of ghosts who took up residence in the old hotel. Enter Chrissy, a former maid and current spirit that haunts the Silver Town hotel, and Brett’s late, great aunt Matilda who couldn’t leave behind the family piano hitching a ride to the hotel when the Silver brother’s donated the musical instrument to the MacTire’s renovation project. What ensues is the building relationship between Ellie and Brett, and the search for the truth as to why neither spirit can move on from the past.

The MacTire sisters see and hear ghosts, and renovating the old Silver Town hotel has kept the sisters busy as it pertains to the history and the ghosts haunting the hotel. While Ellie’s relationship with Brett continues to grow our heroine is perplexed when the usual ‘dream walking’ mate doesn’t enter into her fantasies or dreams and is determined to date as many wolves in order to find her Mr. Right. The $ex scenes are limited, mostly implied, or fade to black.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including the MacTire sisters Laurel and Meghan, Brett’s brothers CJ, Eric and Sarandon, as well as most of the Silver Town wolves. Ellie’s ghost hunting uncles, Stanton, Yolan and Vernon, return to cause a little mischief and mayhem.

BETWEEN A WOLF AND A HARD PLACE is a sweet and simple paranormal romance about two wolves looking into the death’s of two permanent guests at the Silver Town hotel. The premise is spirited; the characters are playful; the romance is a slow build to a happily ever after.

excerpt

At the tavern, Ellie couldn’t stop thinking about the woman who had appeared near the piano. She listened to Brett talk about some of the stories he’d researched and written recently for the newspaper. She usually found these behind-the-scenes reports fascinating, but this time she was having a devil of a time concentrating.

The tavern was filled with wolves having a meal in the wolf-members-only establishment. No one had to have a membership card to join; they just had to be a lupus garou.

“Do you have a photo of your great-aunt Matilda?” Ellie suddenly asked, and Brett set his glass of wine down on the table. Her question had come totally out of the blue, and she wished she’d done a better job of leading into it. “I was thinking it would be nice to dedicate the piano to her and have a little memorial plaque with her picture on it on the wall behind the piano.”

How was that for thinking quickly on her feet? Though she knew it was also the best way to commemorate the gift. She would have thought of doing it eventually.

“I’m sure I can find a family photo of her. I’ll check. That would be nice.”

Brett seemed to buy her story and appeared pleased. She sighed. Had their kissing brought the ghost to life? Disturbed her? Ever since Ellie had seen the woman, she’d wanted to call her sisters and warn them of the new ghostly trouble they might have. Unless the new ghost didn’t bother making any more appearances. How likely was that? From Ellie’s past experiences with ghosts attached to people or an object, not very likely.

“How did you say she died?” Ellie realized she’d completely changed the subject again. Brett had said something about the weather and snow, and she had barely heard his comments until he frowned at her.

He sat back a little in his chair this time and studied her. She really had to concentrate better on what he was saying. Brett would think she wasn’t interested in being with him. Which wasn’t the case at all. She just couldn’t stop thinking about the new ghost.

“Sorry.” She took an oversize swig from her glass and nearly choked on the wine.

“What’s wrong?” He reached across the table, taking hold of her hand and stroking it, which only fed into the way she would view him in tonight’s dream fantasy.

Nothing was wrong, except that the piano had stirred up two ghosts in the inn. Ellie hoped the women didn’t get into a fight over territory. She’d never seen it happen before, but anything was possible when paranormal stuff was involved.

“I was just thinking that we could mention a few details…for the memorial. The date of death and so on.”

Brett released her hand and took another sip of his wine. “She was seventy-five in human years, and the doc we had at the time said she died of pneumonia. It simulates drowning; her lungs were filled with fluid.”

What if Matilda had really drowned? What if she was staying around because she had been murdered?

Then again, ghosts of people who had died of natural causes could still attach themselves to prized possessions or people. Any number of things could be ghost magnets, depending on the individual spirit. In one case in the nineteenth century, a man had built a home for his beloved wife, but when she died of sickness and his daughter died a couple of years later, he continued to live there. Upon his death, he remained there as if tied to his wife and daughter and that home. Forever. The historical home was a museum in Texas now, and many visitors had seen the man in his ghostly form.

Ellie took a deep breath. Okay, no more thinking about ghosts. “So about the weather…” What had Brett said? “You said it’s going to snow?” She usually checked the weather every once in a while, but she’d been busy and hadn’t for a few days, though she had smelled snow in the air.

He smiled and reached across the table, taking hold of her hand and squeezing. “I can’t tell you how much I enjoy being with you, Ellie. You’re just fun to be around. I’ve been really wrapped up in work lately, but I wanted you to know it’s not always like this. I know you’ve been really busy lately too. I hope you enjoy being with me as much as I enjoy being with you.”

She smiled. If he only knew what she had been thinking about him in the privacy of her bedroom at night! “I love going out with you. I just…” The last time she’d told a guy she was dating that she was a ghost whisperer, he had stranded her at a hotel restaurant. He’d told her he had to go to the men’s room but skipped out on her instead, leaving the bill for her to pay! What an ass. Then she’d had to call a taxi to get home.

Of course karma can be a bitch. When she remembered he was staying that night at the hotel where the restaurant was—figuring he’d get lucky, she suspected—she’d given his room number to the waiter, paid him a really generous tip, bought a round of drinks for everyone at the bar, and gotten the most expensive bottle of champagne she could to share with her sisters and celebrate. She smiled at the satisfaction she’d gotten from that.

Considering how much she cared for Brett, she really wanted to deal with her current situation in the best way possible, not wanting to upset what she and he had for now.

“Brett, do you believe in ghosts?”

A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS merges Terry Spear’s HEART OF THE JAGUAR and HEART OF THE WOLF paranormal series wherein neither species was aware of the other’s existence. With the merger comes the USF-United Shifter Force that will be headed by our leading couple-Demetria and Everett, and badass JAG enforcer Howard Sternum. I am not sure if Terry has planned a spin off series, but I am looking forward to more stories focusing on the newly formed USF.

There is a large ensemble cast of supporting and secondary characters including many of the previous story line couples, and a few cross over characters from Terry’s HEART OF THE WOLF series. We are introduced to JAG enforcer Howard Sternum- a bit of a badass jaguar who is called in when a jaguar has gone rogue or needs to be taken out. And of course Corey’s family of artic wolves whose own story has yet to be told.

A VERY JAGUAR CHRISTMAS is a fast paced, sweet story that focuses on a small artic wolf shifter child named Corey MacPherson who brings together two supernatural species during the Christmas holidays. The premise is heartwarming and magical; the characters are sweet, enthusiastic and animated; the romance is passionate and fated.

What do you do when you think your boss is drinking on the job in celebration of Christmas when he gives you the most unreal mission you could think of?
Early that morning, Demetria got an emergency call from the director of the Guardian branch. She was feeling better, but she was on vacation, had had to take something for a headache this morning, and fully intended to sleep for a few more hours. It was only six in the morning!
Then her heart thumped wildly, her first thought that there was some awful development concerning Brayden.
When her boss told her the trouble he was calling about, she immediately believed Ben had gotten an early start on drinking mistletoe martinis in celebration of the holidays.
She put the call on speaker so she could get dressed. “Okay, sir, you’re telling me that the jaguar shifter daycare has an Arctic wolf shifter pup there. Really? That’s like saying they have a Bigfoot baby there. They’re trying to pull a prank on us.”
“I’m serious, Demetria. I need you to go over there immediately. You might know that a JAG agent’s mother owns and operates the daycare, so she called her son Everett Anderson to take care of it at first. Since he was working with you on Brayden Covington’s case, he called and highly recommended you handle it. The JAG agency doesn’t normally deal with guardian-type services. That’s our job.”
Mary Anderson’s daycare? Demetria couldn’t believe it. Mary was great at coming up with fantastical stories and games for the kids, but she didn’t figure her for going with a practical joke that involved a policing agency.
Demetria squinted at her reflection in the mirror. Ugh. She brushed her hair and began applying her makeup. “We don’t handle anything like that either, for anything other than jaguars. This has got to be someone’s idea of a joke. This year, the different branches pulled all kinds of pranks on each other.”
“That was on April Fool’s Day.”
“So, maybe they’re a little early for next year.”
Ignoring her comment, Ben said, “I need you to check it out and report back to me ASAP.”
“All right, sir.” This was nuts. And she hated to be the fall guy.
“Okay, but if this truly is a case of learning there’s such a thing as a wolf shifter, I’m canceling your leave and assigning you the job. This case takes priority over anything else.”
She wished she hadn’t had that third margarita last night.
She grabbed her purse and glanced at the clean kitchen, vaguely recalling that Everett had been mopping the floor before…before he carried her off to bed. Now she felt even guiltier that she’d said no to a date with him today. Was this a way for him to get even?
She headed out the door.
“All right?” Ben said, getting confirmation she was going along with the program.
“Yes, sir.” Because she knew this was all some dumb hoax. Though she couldn’t believe Everett or his mother would be trying to pull some prank on her. She just didn’t know what to think.
When Demetria arrived at the daycare, pretend frost covered the windows, making it look like a winter’s day in Dallas. Twinkling colorful lights hanging from the eves and lights in the windows gave it a real holiday look. The sign out front had two little angels holding jaguar cubs, signifying to jaguar shifters that one of their own ran the place. She didn’t imagine any human daycare would include jaguars in its motif, and she wondered what humans would think of the notion of having a wild animal as part of the branding.
Looking totally frazzled with her blond hair slipping from her bun, Mary Anderson met Demetria outside and quickly ushered her into the daycare. “Oh, oh, I’m so glad you’re here, Demetria. This is just well…just…unreal. And wonderful. And horrible.”
Demetria had never seen Everett’s mother so rattled. Well, except for the time she was helping search for the runaway preschooler. “My boss sent me to help take care of the situation. May I see the wolf shifter pup?”
“Yes, yes, this way. Everett has been watching over him. He starts crying and whimpering if we leave him alone for even a minute.”
“Wolf pack mentality,” Demetria said, as if buying into this. “Unless you mean your son.”
Mary smiled a little. “Everett will be thrilled you arrived to take the pup off his hands. He was the one who called your boss and asked for your help. He was a little worried you might not be feeling well because you were a touch under the weather last night, but he knew you were just the one to handle it. We have a serious problem here.”
Demetria hoped he hadn’t told his mother why she was a “touch under the weather” last night. “Besides the fact werewolves don’t exist?”
“We don’t know who the mother was.”
Demetria frowned at her. “You didn’t sign the child in?” Even though she knew this had to be a joke, she still couldn’t help treating it like it was a real case.
“No. Neither did Heidi Johansson, my helper,” Mary said. “The woman just dropped the child off, then left. If he had been strictly human and hadn’t told Heidi he was going to shift and then shifted, I would have called child protective services.”
Demetria did smell the wolf scent, which told her that they’d had a real wolf, or wolf-dog, here at some point.
They both reached the doorway to a room in the back of the building and looked in. Smiling, Everett crouched on the floor, playing tug-of-war with the wolf pup, the silver aluminum halo firmly entrenched between the pup’s teeth. Demetria smiled at the sight, pulled out her cell phone, and snapped a shot to send to her boss. Now this was seeing Everett in a new light. Though watching him mop the spilled margarita off her floor and clean up all the glass was something she’d never seen him do either. She had to admit she was grateful he’d cleaned up the floor, dishes, and everything.
“Oh, no, Everett,” his mother scolded. “We need those for the Christmas play.” Mary took the halo away from Everett, looking highly annoyed with him.
Everett appeared properly chastised, while the pup looked like he was disappointed his favorite toy had been taken away from him and was still eyeing it in Mary’s hand.

What if the shifter world as you knew it suddenly changed?

That’s what happens in A Very Jaguar Christmas. Everyone, jaguars and wolves alike, were blissfully unaware of the others. And now with one little Arctic wolf pup deposited at a jaguar shifter daycare before Christmas, both their worlds collide.

Can you imagine that? I mean, it would be like if some hunky guy you were friends with suddenly turned out to be a wolf—more than just a wolfish guy, but really a part-time wolf! So they have to deal with not just knowing that wolf shifters exist, but that they have one of their little ones, and where does that leave them?

Jaguars are not pack animals, yet the momma takes care of her babies until they’re old enough to hunt on their own. I was just watching a video about cougars, and the myth that the daddy isn’t welcome anymore might be just that. It showed the momma in a den with her babies and daddy coming to join them! So it’s possible that jaguars are the same. They’re so elusive, it’s hard to say.

In any event, the human part of the equation usually makes the shifter just as family-oriented as the wolf packs. But there are differences. They don’t have the issue of the full moon to contend with, if they’re more newly turned.

But how do you, if you’re a jaguar shifter, even find where the wolf packs are? How do you take care of a wolf pup? How do you convince a wolf pack that you have one of their own, and you’re a jaguar shifter that they didn’t even know existed?

It’s not just an adult issue, either. How will the pup feel about being with a bunch of big cats? And little cats too? How will the jaguar kits feel about this alien wolf pup in their daycare? What about protective mommas?

So I’m excited about showing their worlds come together, to see how they will relate, work together, or not. They do have the shifter issue in common, so they have common ground right from the start. And that’s important. But what about territories? Each have their own territories in the wild. Will that be an issue for them as shifters?

For instance, what if a jaguar shifter moved into the town of Silver Town, one place that is totally run by a wolf pack? Would they object? How would a jaguar fit in if he or she had to run in Colorado? What if the jaguar had a mate and little jaguars?

The Victorian Inn is already prepared to handle a jaguar family with a jungle theme just for them in one of the rooms, but what if the family wants to stay and put down roots? Could they abide by wolf pack laws?

So many questions. Fun and conflict—that makes it fun for readers too!

Yep, there’s trouble in shifter paradise, and it’s Christmas on top of that. So it’s time to make some changes in the natural order of things, deal with the fallout, and make this the best Christmas ever.
