REVIEW: WHEN YOU BLUSH is the fourth instalment in Kristen Proby’s contemporary, adult THE BLACKWELLS OF MONTANA erotic, romance series, a spin off set in the author’s THE WILDS OF MONTANA series, which in turn is a spin off from the author’s WITH ME IN SEATTLE /SINGLE IN SEATTLE series. This is thirty-four year old family practitioner / ER physician Blake Blackwell, and thirty year old, NICU nurse Harper Hendrix’s story line. WHEN YOU BLUSH can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Blake and Harper) WHEN YOU BLUSH follows in the wake of a one-night stand. Dr. Blake Blackwell doesn’t have time for relationships but meeting travelling nurse Harper Hendrix, on a weather hampered flight back to Montana, stirs something deep within our story line hero. A one-night stand ends with Harper ghosting Blake; months will pass, and Blake has all but given up hope of ever meeting our heroine again but a chance encounter at the hospital where Blake works in Bitterroot Valley finds Harper has chosen to return to her roots, accepting a position just floors from our story line hero. As Blake and Harper begin a dance of seduction, Harper struggles with issues of trust, as memories from the past refuse to let go.

The world building introduces the reader to Harper’s large extended family of the heart, who are protective of our story line heroine, as well as the triggers that continue to affect our heroine moving forward. Blake is the quintessential doctor who doesn’t have time for anyone in his life but his attraction to Harper forces Blake to change his path, moving forward.

The relationship between Harper and Blake begins as a one-night stand, to co-workers whose attraction to one another cannot be ignored. Neither Blake nor Harper have the time for relationships but our couple are determined to act on their attraction, pursuing something more but Harper’s stubbornness and issues of trust begin to affect her relationship with Blake, yet Blake is willing to take a chance with the woman with whom he is falling in love. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful, dynamic and energetic secondary and supporting characters including both Harper and Blake’s large extended families. We are introduced to Harper’s ‘family of the heart’: father Greg Hendrix, foster siblings Xander, Tucker, Easton, and Ava Hendrix ; as well as the return of Blake’s siblings: Bridger and Dani (Dani’s sisters Alex and Charlie), Beckett, Billie and her husband Connor, Brooks and his ex Juliet; Connor’s sister Skyla.

WHEN YOU BLUSH is a story of trust and misunderstanding, family and friendships, relationships and love, The character driven premise is intriguing, spicy and inviting; the romance is seductive; the characters are determined and charismatic.
