Description:
All-Star linebacker Frank Kelly is as well-known for his off-the-field hits as he is for his on-field ones. When a dance club brawl ends with him in handcuffs again, he’s rescued by a well-connected woman who can get the charges dropped in exchange for a small favor. If he’ll agree to play the part of a doting boyfriend for two months, she’ll keep him out of the slammer and help restore his reputation.

Kiana Dyer may be the daughter of a Hall of Fame football player, but the charity organization she took over when he died isn’t getting the media attention she’d hoped for. A staged romance with Frank Kelly is just the ticket she needs to get in the spotlight. As the lines between fake and real start to blur, she begins to wonder if bailing him out was the best call she’s ever made. Just when everything seems to be falling perfectly in place, scandal surrounds her charity, and she’s the one left scrambling to clear her name.

Review:

In The Red Zone by Crista McHugh begins with Frank Kelly and his friend Tre at a club, when in walks a woman who grabs his attention immediately. He saunters across the floor and hits on her, only to find out that she is his friend Tre’s sister. And Kiana is well aware of his reputation as a womanizer as well as a fighter. Yes, Frank gets in trouble………..a lot, so he reigns in his ego and asks her to dance and promises to be a gentleman. But when he finally gets her on the dance floor only to have an entourage approach them and start to berate and manhandle Kiana, all bets are off and he sees red. A fight ensues and shots are fired and Frank once again finds himself in handcuffs and hauled off to jail. Who bails him out? Kiana. And, she makes him an offer that he can’t refuse. Frank idolized Kiana’s father, and he’s attracted to Kiana as well, so when she asks for help for her charitable organization, he sees it as a win win.

The more time he spends with Kiana, the more he knows she’s not like the other women he’s been with, so he calls his oldest brother, Adam, for advice. Of course, Adam immediately thinks Frank’s in trouble (did I mention he gets in trouble a lot?? LOL!) but soon discerns that Frank seems to be taken with this lady, which surprises him. When they hang up, Frank decides he’s all in and will do what he can to help her foundation, and to help her see him as something more than his reputation. Once things get rolling, revelations are made and hearts are in play. And, when scandal Kiana’s charity, Frank will move heaven and earth to move them out of the red zone.

Crista McHugh has ONCE AGAIN written a wonderful story with two characters that are relatable, refreshing and will have you turning the pages so fast that the story will be over before you know it. I knew that Frank’s book would be awesome, and it totally was. Even though he had that bad boy reputation, you just had to know going in that he would redeem himself in a big way. And, boy, did he! I loved Kiana as well. She is strong and independent despite a childhood that would have left most balled up in a corner sobbing. There was one HUGE problem with this book though. It’s the sixth book, about the sixth brother, which means there’s only one more. I just can’t believe that the next book, Gideon’s, will be the seventh. I’ve said it a million times. If you’re not reading Crista’s books, you’re sorely missing out on some of the best reads ever!!! Not one wasted word will be found in anything she writes. Well done, Crista McHugh, very very well done!

The Kelly Brothers – Book #5

Description:
She has the scoop of a lifetime, but only if she betrays his trust…

Ethan Kelly lost his best friend and bandmate to an overdose, but staying clean is proving harder than he thought it would be. His only safety net during his first weeks of sobriety is fellow recovering addict, Becca. As she guides him through the darkness, he begins to trust her not only with his secrets, but also his heart.

After years of trying to be the daughter her socialite parents wanted her to be (and failing miserably), Rebecca Shore finally has her life on track. Sure, she’s just an assistant at Moderne magazine when she’d rather be pursuing more serious journalism, but it’s a foot in the door. She’s just waiting for the scoop of a lifetime that will take her to the next level. But when she’s asked to help the reclusive and enigmatic rock star, her heart is torn between the career she’s always wanted and the man who bares his soul to her.

Review:

A Seductive Melody begins with Ethan struggling with the death of his best friend, and struggling with his own sobriety. And, in typical Kelly fashion, his family tries to be there for him, but he keeps pushing them away. He finally assures them that he is committed to staying clean and goes to a meeting. But when he meets his sponsor, he can’t help but think this girl would have no idea what being a junkie would be like. He truly has no clue…………

When Becca is asked to be Ethan’s sponsor, she can’t help but notice how hot he is, and how lost he looks. She knows better than most the long road to recovery. After having embarrassed her family, and herself, one time too many, she decided to get serious about her own sobriety and pursue a career in journalism. In the beginning, she and Ethan keep things light as she tries to help him stay clean. But soon enough, she realizes that “light” won’t work with him. And, wouldn’t you know it? They are extremely attracted to each other…. 😉

Ethan and Becca begin to navigate a relationship, which is difficult enough for two recovering addicts. Add to it Becca’s realization that Ethan is a rock star and Ethan’s trust issues, and you’re in for one hell of a ride. Oh, and on top of all of that, Becca’s dad is a bazillionaire jerkwad, who has all but cut her off, doesn’t have a clue who Ethan is and accuses him of being after Becca’s trust fund at Thanksgiving dinner. Yippee…………. Throw in a HUGE misunderstanding between Ethan and Becca just as they are becoming more comfortable with each other and, well, you get the picture.

A Seductive Melody is a wonderfully written story about two people dealing with their own demons, as well as each other’s. Ethan is an awesome guy with a huge heart who is struggling with not only losing his best friend, but also with losing his ability to write music. Becca is a sweet, caring soul who has made it her mission to not only keep herself clean, but to inspire Ethan to stay clean as well. There is always going to be temptation, but can these two beat the odds and inspire each other? Well, good people, you’ll have to read and find out. A Seductive Melody is ultimately about conquering one’s demons and finding redemption when all was thought to be lost. I’ll end this review by saying what I normally say at the end of a review for one of Crista’s books…..If you’re not reading the stories she’s telling, you’re seriously missing out. Well done, Crista McHugh, very very very well done!

Description:

Air Force pilot Caleb Kelly has come back home with one mission in mind—to propose to the woman whose letters and lucky charm helped him survive his deployment in Afghanistan. But when he finds their apartment empty with a note saying she’s left him, he arrives at her mother’s house in rural Alabama less than a week before Kourtney is about to marry another man. Now he’s out to win her heart again and gets some unexpected assistance from her younger sister, Alex.

Alex Leadbetter has always thought Caleb was too good for her manipulative, social-climbing sister. She had assumed Kourtney’s identity to write letters to him and keep his spirits up until he returned home to the hard truth, never expecting to fall in love with him along the way. After he shows up in town, she convinces him that the best way to get Kourtney back is to make her think he’s fallen for someone new — her. But when a fake romance becomes all too real, her deception may leave them both grounded.

Review:

Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees…………. Once Caleb returns from Afghanistan and finds Kourtney gone and a note saying that she’s left him, he makes it his mission to make her see that they are meant to be together.  Her emails were the one bright spot that he gravitated to while deployed.  He doesn’t understand how she could have written the things that she did, only to leave him high and dry.  He fell in love with the person who wrote those emails, and by damn, he will make her see that she loves him too.

Once he arrives in Alabama, he heads straight to Kourtney’s family home, only to find her finalizing her wedding plans……….to someone else.  Kourtney’s little sister, Alex, diffuses the situation and convinces Caleb to leave with her so that they can talk.  When Caleb tells Alex of his plans for he and Kourtney, Alex convinces him to pretend that she and Caleb are a couple, which will cause Kourtney to want him back.  After all, Kourtney doesn’t like to lose, especially to her little sister.  What Caleb doesn’t know is that Alex fell for him a long time ago and she is hoping that once they spend time together, he’ll realize that Alex is the one for him.  Not her egotistical, overbearing sister.  The one rub?  How in the world will she explain her deception to him?  Will he understand that she did it because she cares for him and wanted to give him something to look forward to?  Or, will things crash and burn before they ever get off the ground?  Well my friends, you’ll have to read to find out…….

Crista McHugh is a goddess.  Her writing style grabs you and doesn’t let go.  Once again she has written a wonderful story that starts from the very first word.  Sounds corny, huh?  But, let me tell you…….there is nothing gratuitous about the way she writes.  You know how when you’re reading a story and the same point gets made 14,792 times and you’re like “get on with it!!”??  That doesn’t happen in her stories.  EVER.  She draws you in from the very first word with wonderfully written dialogue that has you clamoring for more.  Alex was such a sweet soul.  She owns a garage and is a mechanic there as well, and goes out of her way to help those in need.  Not just in the garage, but in the town itself.  She is such a likeable character and has a huge heart, and is determined to make her own way.  She really is the antithesis of her big sister, Kourtney.  Caleb, even though he was a little thick headed at first, was the perfect match for Alex.  Along with their spot on chemistry, which burned up the pages, his willingness to ask his family for their input on the situation only endeared him to me more.

One more time people…………… If you’re not reading Crista McHugh’s wonderful series, you are seriously missing out.  And, once again, very well done Crista…..very very well done!!

Description:
Lia Mantovani has created one of the hottest restaurants on Chicago’s Magnificent Mile, but all that could disappear if she loses her lease with Kelly Properties. Having had her dreams ripped away from her before, she’ll do everything in her power to keep her restaurant. Her fate hangs on the whims of the frustratingly handsome Adam Kelly.

Adam has spent years trying to convince world famous chef Amadeus Schlittler to open a restaurant in Chicago, but he wants the prime location held by Lia. Business has always come first… until sparks fly when Adam meets her. When things get hot outside the kitchen, though, they’re both in danger of getting burned.

Review:

At the start of The Sweetest Seduction by Crista McHugh, we meet Lia, who is an up and coming chef, and a good one.  She also has a meddling mother.  When they arrive at the Kelly’s home for Lia to prepare a dinner for the Kelly family, which Mother Kelly bought at a charity auction, Lia has no idea what she’s in for, or how much her life is about to change.

Once they arrive at the picturesque Kelly home on the lake, she can’t help but wonder what her mom is up to.  And once she sees all of the hunky Kelly brothers, she sighs in resignation.  Seems her mom and Mrs. Kelly have an ulterior motive.  Lia heads to the kitchen to start her preparations.  Enter Adam Kelly.  Sparks?  No.  More like spontaneous combustion.  Both try to ignore the other, but what’s the worst that can happen to just indulge…………a little?

But, once Lia realizes that Adam is the one who owns her restaurant space and wants to lease the space to the pompous Amadeus Schittler, will she be able to change his mind? Will Adam be able to satisfy both his and Lia’s needs?  Both, professionally and personally?  Well, my friends, you will just have to read to find out.  And, what a read it is!

Crista has ONCE AGAIN written a story that grabs you from the very first and leaves you wanting more!  The chemistry between Lia and Adam is off the charts and the steam factor will leave you panting.  Crista’s writing style is second to none.  You are completely engrossed in these two characters from the beginning and do not want it to end.  If you are looking for a new author, or just looking for a quick, sexy read, this book will not disappoint.  I have touted Crista McHugh as one of my must-read authors since the first time I read one of her stories.  She writes in several different genres and they are all spectacular.  Well done, Crista McHugh!!  Very, very well done!!
