But after her nemesis, Summer Hoyt, makes it clear she’s not finished chasing after Brett, Alexis begins realize how hard she’s fallen for Brett. Now the war is on, and the head cheerleader will find out why she should never take on a Queen B*.
Review:
The Queen B* Strikes Back picks up right where the previous book ended. Alexis and Brett have finished their joint school project and she readies herself for the fact that Brett will no longer feel the need to put himself out there and be her “friend”. She could not have been more wrong. Brett asks Alexis for help in writing an essay for his college applications, which she initially refuses. Brett is nothing if not persistent, and eventually she comes around and agrees to help him. Brett even insists that she participate with extracurricular activities and whisks her away to a carwash the school is having one Saturday morning. She finds herself eventually having fun until Brett publicly becomes affectionate (GASP!) and she runs for the hills.
Brett apologizes and she reluctantly accepts. After all, she’s the only girl to ever be invited to his home to have breakfast with his family. Even though she tries hard to keep him at arm’s length, Brett steadily breaks down her defenses and Alexis knows she’s falling for him…….hard. But when she’s invited to a party at her nemesis’ house, a nemesis who wants Brett with everything she is, a series of events unfold that not only break Alexis’ heart but ends up putting her in grave danger. Will Alexis be able to forgive Brett and listen to what really happened, or is she doomed to forever be the prickly, defensive Queen B* that everyone expects her to be? Well, my friends, you’ll just have to read to find out….and, oh, what a read it is.
The Queen B* Strikes Back is another wonderful story from the brilliant mind of Crista McHugh. We found out in the first installment why Alexis is so reluctant to let anyone in, and you can totally understand why it is so hard for her to open herself up and really trust someone again. Brett is just that guy. He has a huge heart and just will not give up on Alexis. He sees the softer side of her and is bound and determined to get her to let others see it too. This story really strikes a chord with me. My youngest graduated high school in May and I can’t tell you the times that I’ve seen her and a few of her friends upset over the very things portrayed in these books. Trying to find your way at such an impressionable age is hard, and trying to figure out who your real friends are can be even harder. The Queen B* Strikes Back is ultimately a story about learning from prior life lessons, but also figuring out that just because you were horribly hurt by one so-called friend, doesn’t mean that everyone is out to get you. Alexis and Brett are the perfect team to prove just that. Well done, Crista McHugh! Very, very, very well done!!!!
