Amazon / Barnes & Noble / Kobo / BAM / The Book Depository
Description:
Socialite Trista Patterson has turned her back on her life of privilege and dedicated herself to helping others. Her mission to protect the world’s children often takes her into the bleak and violent underbelly of third world countries. When a kidnapping attempt goes wrong, Trista quickly finds herself running for her life…and married to a man she just met…as she’s placed at the top of the Cartel’s most wanted list.
Some days no good deed goes unpunished.
Dane O’Brien has spent his life in the shadows. Once a lethal assassin he grew tired of losing his soul with every hit, trading his gun and missions for a conference table and office politics as an undercover operative for the CIA. But when visiting his humanitarian sister turns deadly, Dane finds himself swearing to protect her beautiful and passionate friend Trista no matter the cost…even if it means stepping back into the world he swore never to return to. Although falling for the tough-hearted Trista is easy, keeping her alive is hard.
Review:
True Peril by Veronica Forand is book 3 of her True Lies series. This reads very well as a standalone, so you don’t need to read the earlier books, but there are a few characters from the previous books in this book.
Wow ! Great way to start a book, a kidnapping, an attempted rescue and killings all in the first chapter! Can we keep the pace up ?
The answer is yes, this book starts off running and keeps up the fast pace. The banter and chemistry is great between Trista and Dane. The scenes are descriptive and very well written.
Dane is use to visiting his sister in dangerous places, but he never imagined he would have to rescue one of her friends. Dane is a very active character, he hides a secret from his sister. He is an undercover agent for his government, he goes in and does the dirty jobs, and he works alone. Seducing women for secrets and cover, he hasn’t got time to fall in love.
Trista is tired of being a pampered princess. Tired of being ignored by her family, she devotes her life to helping others less fortunate than herself. And in a tiny village she meets Jenny and they become best friends. Jenny doesn’t know that Trista is a trust fund baby, she knows that her friend wanted to join the police force, but pressure from the family (how embarrassing, their daughter a blue collar worker ) forced Trista to leave.
Dane is forced to rescue Trista, but is totally taken by surprise, she rescues herself and they flee into the jungle. Our girl knows how to handle herself.
And now Trista is on the run from a drug lord, she needs to get out of the country, but with no passport or documents, that doesn’t look likely. In steps Dane and pulls a few strings, Trista is now Eve and she is married to Dane !
Reading the adventure as it unfolds for Trista and Dane was a wild and exhilarating ride. There were twists, turns and Laugh out loud moments, the author kept me reading until the early hours 😉
I will be going back to read the stories before this one. And if you like your book with adventure, gun fights and romance, please pick this one up.
