BOOK BLURB:

Allison Carmichael wakes from a car wreck with no memory of the past three years. She doesn’t recall her husband’s death or how she alienated her friends, and she definitely doesn’t remember anything about her new boyfriend Vincent Drake – a charismatic man with a penchant for rare and unique possessions. In fact, the only things familiar to Allison are her seemingly common ailments – insomnia, lack of appetite, erratic body temperature – which have gone undiagnosed and are worsening.

But Vincent knows exactly who, and what, Allison is – a mortal descendant of the first vampire. He is a vampire who has watched over Allison and her ancestors since the biblical times of Cain and Abel ensuring their secret is kept. Once he realizes Allison’s symptoms are accelerating and transforming her, he’ll stop at nothing to have her.

REVIEW:

Allison Carmichael has led a charmed life. She has a wonderful career, loving and gorgeous husband and beautiful home, but she feels there is something lacking……….. All of her life she has grown up hearing that she is “special”. Her mother’s doctor reinforced this notion when she was born. She is also experiencing weird physical ailments—insomnia, lack of appetite, erratic body temperature. Her doctors don’t have a diagnosis for her and she is getting cranky!

One morning, Allison wakes up from a car accident with no memory of the past three years. She doesn’t recall her husband’s death and she doesn’t remember anything about her new home or sexy new boyfriend, Vincent Drake! This tall, dark and handsome man knows what Allison is—a mortal descendent of the first vampire. He has watched over Allison and her family for generations to ensure that their secret is safe. The author weaves biblical stories of Cain and Abel and Noah’s Ark in telling the story of the creation of the vampire race. Once Vincent realizes that Allison’s symptoms are increasing, he will stop at nothing to transform her and claim this first descendent turned vampire.

Allison must decide if she is ready to transform into a vampire and lose her soul in the process or if she should remain mortal. It is her choice to make. A decision that is difficult when she finds that she has been a pawn in Vincent’s manipulations. Vincent has been manipulating her life to suit his needs and Allison begins to question what really happened in those lost three years. Will she be able to forgive Vincent?

This novel is very fast paced and the story behind vampirism is fascinating. Allison was not always a sympathetic character, due to her “specialness” but she is feisty and determined to live her life on her own terms. When she meets the villain in the story, his defeat is rather anticlimactic! He is centuries old and is defeated rather quickly. Who knows? He could still make a future appearance! The story ends in a cliffhanger and Allison is now ready to search for some answers to what really happened to her during her “lost three years”. This was an engaging first book in a truly original novel about vampires!

Snap: Love For Blood by Michele Drier-a review

SNAP: Love for Blood (The Kandesky Vampire Chronicles #5) by Michele Drier-a review

Snap Love for Blood

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Barnes and Noble / KOBO

SNAP: Love for Blood is the fourth book in the “Kandesky Vampire Chronicles”. However, it’s my first venture into this series. Each book is said to stand alone and while I guess you can start anywhere, it’s really best to start at the beginning; mostly because so much has been explained and happened in this story that I found it somewhat confusing, at first, to figure out all that was being communicated. I think this can be said of most series. SLFB (SNAP: Love for Blood) is a very fast paced and intricate tale that you should have the background to fully enjoy the story unfolding.

The story begins with our lead female (Maxie) in a cell, she has been kidnapped by enemies of Jean-Louis (her vampire boss and lover). They seem to be after information, but really don’t seem all that concerned with its lack, they really just seem to enjoy hurting her. It’s really pretty brutal treatment and she doesn’t seem to have full use of her mind. She’s having a hard time even remembering the people they’re asking about. This is actually quite well written because you are supposed to be as confused as she is without her memory. And since I didn’t have the history, I was. They questioned, abused her physically and brutally raped her (Leonid and Jules both). Soon after she was thrown back into a cell, she was rescued quickly and quietly by those sent from Jean-Louis.
There is a lot of concern and angst over her torture and the state of her mind. From here the story began to fill in the blanks. There was so much to figure out… This is a complex story of very powerful and wealthy vampire families that are pretty much opposites in the world.

The Klandesky family is very powerful, wealthy and in the modern world as corporate enterprises, including the glamorous and popular world of communications. SNAP is a many armed communications empire encompassing print, TV, Web, Fashion, Movie and many other facets. Almost all “family” members take some active role in running the corporation. They have evolved to different kinds of “food” and only take blood from willing donors. Turning is done infrequently and as a prize and reward for service and love.

The Huszar family is mostly brute force type, with ties to drugs, assassins, arms and most violent mafia type organizations. They are not the brightest bulbs on the tree…due to the differences in leadership of the families. Women in the Huszar family are basically sex slaves and household slaves as well. They feed covertly and use donors. They often kill their enemies and “turn” others to use them.

As the story went on through Maxie’s recovery and return to her mind and her love, Jean-Louis, you begin to understand this fast moving and incredibly complex world. She physically within weeks, but mentally it’s a much harder road back.

There are lots of wonderful loving and steamy sex scenes, but well written and not so frequent as to be boring. Maxie deals with not just her injuries, but the whole trust issue that has been put to question by her kidnapping. Learning to trust and get over fear is really a long process and this is taken well into account. Watching this love grow and unfold is interesting and very heart-warming as well as frustrating; a very interesting mix of emotions and issues as well as more than a little danger.

This book and probably the whole series is not a “no-brainer” type read. It’s compelling, extremely complex, incredibly interesting both mentally and emotionally. If we did ratings…I’d have to have it way up the scale, but I intend to go back and get the rest to better understand the whole story. I look forward to the next installment in this refreshing (yes, I know it’s vampires…but refreshingly done none the less) new series.

I have barely scratched the surface of this story, and I’ve gone over my usual page limit. While I don’t like to do spoilers for anyone, there is just so much to say about this story. I highly recommend it (from the beginning) for any of you who like the whole vampire thing. I actually find it a fun time as the “good guys” are really pretty cool considering they’re vampires. LOL. It’s a really great series, give it a try, what can a gorgeous dark haired, blue eyed, powerful and loving vampire hurt?

The Vampire Affair Part 2

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca /

Release Date: April 23, 2013

If you thought part one was steamy and charged with sexual fervor, then you have not read part two. In part one it is more than established that journalist Mikayla and business man, Jonathan have some serious chemistry. The story picks up where it left off a day or two I would presume after that saucy encounter in the hotel stairwell.

It doesn’t take long before Mikayla and Jonathan finally act on their passions…behind a bush in a secluded area. It doesn’t end with this sexy episode as there are more saucy scenes that go on as Mikayla and Jonathan just can’t get enough of each other. What’s sweet about this book is that it’s not just about sex but they are intimate on an emotional level. Due to their circumstances, they are both a little on the emotionally guarded side in which I can understand with Mikayla keeping up the emotional shield because it’s supposed to be business and Jonathan being a public figure in which the press always targets and creates rumors about him. So to see they both slowly but surely let their guards down around each other is very relieving. Despite that, they are both hiding something from each other.

In the midst of it all, it seems like everything is about to blow up in Mikayla’s face when a rival reporter goes rogue on Mikayla’s case, Jonathan’s publicist being a major jerk to her and tries what he can to get rid of her, her boss about to fire her but most of all the reveal of her true identity to Jonathan. So did Mikayla bite of more than she can chew and went way over her head with this situation? Has she fallen for Jonathan? Will the secrets finally come out about Mikayla real identity to Jonathan or the fact that Jonathan is a vampire? I won’t give anything too big away except everything really does work out in the end and that no one’s gets broken in this one.

Part 2 did not disappoint me but it was such a short story that it may as well have been part of the first part. Mikayla is demure yet has a boldness that surprises you. Jonathan really surprises me that he is actually a really good guy even though the press loves to muck up his image that he is a scumbag when he is really not. So I highly enjoyed part 2 greatly just felt like it should just be part of part 1 and just be a novel. Other than that I didn’t have any other complaints about the books.

Death's Servant Excerpt

“Jon!” Romeo’s deep voice follows as I stride quickly down the hall. “Get back here.”

I round the top of the stairs and descend at full speed, skipping steps in my haste to leave. Anger pulses like a living beast beneath my skin. If I don’t get the hell out of here, my alpha and I will come to blows.

The urge to fight, to answer the call of my inner wolf, colors my vision, tinting the werewolf pack’s large home in a wash of red haze. Claws itch to descend through my clenched fists, and the brush of fur waiting to erupt tingles my skin.

“This is not over.” Romeo’s booming shout thunders through the house. “Get back here now, or don’t ever come back!”

This time he’s getting what he threatens. What’s so crazy about suggesting a support network for wolves? Why am I suddenly the object of scorn and ridicule? Is organizing packs somehow a threatening concept to our way of life?

A tiny voice inside whispers, Your suggestion of such a change goes against everything a werewolf pack stands for.

Could that be true? Would instilling communication among hundreds of Weres hurt us as a species?

I block the denials I’ve heard for months. Doesn’t make sense. Could Romeo’s resistance stem from something bigger? Should I listen to the gossip saying I’ve evolved into an alpha faster than anyone expected? There is only one male alpha per pack, not two; one mated pair deciding the fate of their wolves, and those who don’t agree must leave. Or fight for supremacy.

I barrel out the front door and sprint toward the detached garage, where a few of the single wolves have bedrooms in the space above the cars. I throw open the door, the heavy steel bouncing off the siding in my unchecked rage. I need to talk to Lori, my werewolf girlfriend in the pack. I’m ready to leave and want her with me.

My inner beast gnashes its teeth, ready for a challenge, eager to return and face the man who saved my life less than a year ago. Tamping down the temptation, I rush the inner stairs three at a time. The scent of half a dozen wolves lies heavy in the confined space, confusing the rational part of my mind struggling to remain in control.

I recall our past in an effort to still my raging desires—I owe this man my life. Romeo found me lost and afraid when I awoke in the hospital, uncertain of what I’d become. Elsa, his wife, sensed immediately I was different, discouraging her mate to allow me into their pack. Romeo didn’t care. He recognized me for what I truly was—a scared college kid who didn’t know what the f*@k happened to his well-ordered life.

When I reach the upper hall, I’m jolted out of my calming reverie by sounds of passion. I smile, wondering who Kotsana has lured to his waterbed now.

“That’s it, baby,” a familiar female voice coos softly. “You know I like it good and deep.”

The instant anger near the surface of my mind threatens to overwhelm me. I stop cold—leaning a hand on the wall, gasping to catch my breath—while my packmate screws my girlfriend beyond his shut bedroom door.

The Vampire Affair Part 1 by Vivi Anna-a review

The Vampire Affair by Vivi Anna – review

The Vampire Affair

ABOUT THE BOOK: Re-released April 1, 2013

Makayla Bradley, a small-time journalist, risks everything including her job to get the goods on billionaire playboy Jonathan Devane. A man who enthralled her from a single passionate kiss months prior. A man who makes her blood race and her thighs tingle. A man with dark secrets…

••••••••••••••••••

A fast paced novella of one sexually charged game of cat and mouse. The sexual tension between Mikayla and Jonathan is tangible that sex just fizzles in the air around them. What starts out as a simple meeting of eyes in the club escalates to a sexy chase game.

Rookie reporter Mikayla is determined to make a niche for herself in the journalism world even if it means crossing a few lines. To do that she sought to make a story of famous and ruthless businessman who is also a renowned womanizer, Jonathan. What starts out as a story turns into obsession and ulterior motives of seduction. As Mikayala comes up with a scheme to assume another identity to infiltrate the hotel Jonathan is staying at so she can get to Jonathan and get the “dirt” on him.

As the two have more encounters with each other, is it still business and only about the story or has Mikayla bitten off more than she can chew and has fallen for Jonathan?

The humor is amusingly crude ranging from juice being thrown in a rival reporters face, ridiculous disguises, packages of penis chocolates and a very interesting convention. This novella was highly enjoyable but leaves you wanting more. This was truly was very fun read and I am excited to get part 2. I admit this book was a little raunchy and the plot reminded me of something out a of pardon my language for this but a porn yet don’t get me wrong because the book had body and life to it and I can respect and appreciate that. So words to describe this book are sexy, fast-paced and overall fun.

TRISTAN’S LYCEUM WOLVES (Immortals of New Orleans #3) by Kym Grosso-a review

Tristan's Lyceum Wolves

Order Link: Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk Barnes and Noble

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 28, 2013

Charismatic and powerful Lyceum Wolves’ Alpha, Tristan Livingston, is out for revenge after a devastating attack on his pack. Not only did he survive a building collapse, he orchestrated the rebuild of his chic, state-of-the-art nightclub within a week. Determined to mete out justice, he rescues a beautiful witness who may be the key to helping him find the perpetrators.

Dr. Kalli Williams, dedicated veterinarian, is hiding a secret that endangers not only her own life but the lives of wolves across the country. After being tortured by a savage vampire, she’s reluctantly agrees to help the sexy Alpha in his quest to identify suspects; ones who’d kill her on the spot if they knew she existed. As Kalli places herself in the hands of the dominant wolf, she soon finds she wants nothing more than to submit.

Tristan, committed to ruling his pack as a lone wolf, is inexplicably drawn to the mysterious and enticing woman, who seems more than human, but not quite supernatural. As he discovers her secret, he teaches her the meaning of trust, helping her learn how to be true to her nature. After living a lifetime alone, will he succumb to the visceral need to claim her, acknowledging the soul binding connection between an Alpha and his mate? And will he prevail against the menacing enemy who threatens to destroy Lyceum Wolves?

***************

REVIEW: Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves is the third installment in Kym Grosso’s paranormal Immortals of New Orleans series featuring vampires, wolves, witches and more. Tristan’s story is a wonderful storyline filled with romance, betrayal, heartbreak, and love. The reader was first introduced to Tristan in Kade’s Dark Embrace and his story is well worth the price of admission.

Kalli is our heroine who is much more than human, but her presence in Tristan’s life stirs his wolf into a need that cannot and will not be sated until he has claimed both the woman and his mate. His wolf demands Kalli as its mate but something about Kalli is different-she is hiding in plain site but who and what she is hiding is a mystery. When the truth is finally revealed Tristan (the man) has a difficult time knowing that the woman with whom he is falling in love, is not the woman he was led to believe- and Tristan (the wolf) is more than outraged at the secret she is hiding.

Tristan is the alpha who has earned the respect of his pack as well as other alphas. But when tragedy strikes some of the youngest members of his pack, Tristan is an alpha wolf with a need for revenge-a revenge that may come with a price as the woman he has yet to claim is painfully connected to those who have caused so much sorrow for his pack and his new mate.

Tristan’s connection with Logan (his second in command) is both loving and sensual and as his Beta is welcome in the relationship with Kalli. The Lyceum pack must accept Kalli as Tristan’s mate, and so too, must Kalli accept Logan as part of her new life with the pack alpha. Logan and Tristan have been friends for close to a century and have had each other’s back from day one-they have shared pain and sorrow, as well as the women in their lives, but Kalli is a first for them both. Kalli is Tristan’s mate, but she will become part of Tristan’s friendship with Logan on a visceral level of emotions and love. Her connection with Tristan heightens her awareness of Logan, as he becomes a part of her new life with the pack.

Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves is a well-written, fascinating and sensual look at a powerful alpha who earns the respect of his pack and yearns for the love of his mate. But make no mistake, as the alpha his commands are never to be questioned and any attacks against those he loves, will be dealt with expedience and death. Kym Grosso has written a series that will grab you attention from the very first chapter and Tristan’s Lyceum Wolves is no exception.

**************

REVIEW: DEATH’S SERVANT is the prequel novella in C.J.Ellisson’s V.V. Inn series featuring Vivian Alexandria (Dria) a 580 plus year old vampire with the ability to manipulate emotions. In this particular storyline, C.J. opens up about Jon’s past and how the alpha without a pack came to be Dria’s most trusted servant.

Jon has always been an alpha-as a human and as a shifting wolf, and those tendencies do not diminish throughout his trek to discover what he wants from his new life. But what Jon uncovers is a wolf pack in trouble and there is only one solution on the horizon. Enter Dria-an ancient vampire who makes Jon an offer he cannot refuse.

We watch as Jon wars with his emotions about Dria-the vampire to whom he has pledged his life. But it is the calculating methods and swift due diligence of the ancient vampire that has Jon second-guessing about to whom he has vowed his servitude. Dria’s power and ability to get the job done is only the tip of the proverbial iceberg as Jon discovers there is more to Vivian Alexandria than a beautiful face.

DEATH’S SERVANT is a fascinating look at Jon’s emotional introduction into Dria’s Seethe. CJ Ellisson has given us a glimpse into Jon’s personality and the warring conflict within when he witnesses Dria’s power first hand. I am a big fan of prequel novellas where the reader is taken back in time to learn about the roots of established characters. Death’s Servant is a welcome and I believe necessary addition to CJ’s V.V.Inn series. Fans have always wanted to know how Jon established himself as Dria’s right hand man and Death’s Servant reveals the truth about Jon’s beginnings with the Seethe.

WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED (Magic and Mayhem #1) by Stacey Kennedy-a review

Werewolves Be Damned

Amazon/ Barnes and Noble/ KOBO

ABOUT THE BOOK: April 15, 2013

Nexi Jones—part witch, part guardian, and wannabe kick-ass warrior—can’t throw a punch or conjure the simplest magic. But that doesn’t stop her from hunting the werewolves who slaughtered her human family. She’ll have her revenge, but only if Kyden, the elite guardian, would get the hell out of her way.

Kyden can’t decide if Nexi wants to get herself killed or if she just has no clue what she’s doing. But her father made it clear: keep Nexi safe…or else. Of course, the more Nexi runs toward revenge, the more she needs Kyden’s aid, and as she grows into her power and confidence, so does his desire to protect her. The only problem? She’d rather he dropped dead.

But when a vampire paints a bull’s-eye on Nexi’s back, she’s hard-pressed to deny Kyden and the help he’s offering. Even if it means getting her revenge will be a little bit harder. At least it will still be as sweet.

********************

REVIEW: Werewolves Be Damned is the first storyline in Stacey Kennedy’s new Magic and Mayhem series featuring guardians, witches, vampires and werewolves. The focus of this storyline is one Nexi Jones who, following the murder of her adopted parents, discovers that she is no ordinary human. She will be swept into a war between the supernatural species where she will become the ultimate prize.

Nexi is a strong heroine who seeks revenge against the werewolves that killed the only family that she has ever known. But as the storyline progress, Nexi will meet others like herself as she trains for the ultimate showdown between good and evil. Only she will lose more in this battle-she may lose the man with whom she has fallen in love.

Kyden is a Guardian and the man who has made it his mission to train Nexi. Knowing she is not prepared for a face to face confrontation with the being who destroyed her life, Kyden takes Nexi into his care, but will lose his heart in the process.

We learn, along with Nexi, the truth behind her birth mother’s death and all too soon her world will once against be turned upside down when she must face the ultimate evil in a battle for her life as well as for the man that she loves.

WEREWOLVES BE DAMNED is a fast paced, interesting storyline that pulls together many of our favorite supernatural heroes and villains. I would have preferred a little more character development – we meet our hero and heroine and are immediately thrown into the action of the story. I felt like we did not have a chance to know some of the characters before death and heartbreak took hold. Let’s hope the next storyline will delve deeper into the personalities and quirks of the central characters as well as the secondary characters who are interactive in a good portion of the premise. Werewolves Be Damned is a fascinating look at the hunger for power among the supernatural races where one small but powerful female controls the outcome in the palm of her hands.
