ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 11, 2014

I hadn’t set foot in the human world for more than a few hours in over three and a half months. Sure, I was stronger and faster than I’d ever been before, and I had a shiny new sword, but I was seriously chocolate deprived. I don’t recommend quitting cold turkey. And the new sword was a problem — to my mind, anyway. It represented all the expectations of a powerful father and a new otherworldly life. A life that wasn’t the one I’d worked so hard to build. It also represented the responsibility I had to bring my foster sister Sienna to … what? Justice? I didn’t know if that was even possible. What I did know was that Sienna wouldn’t stop, and that I couldn’t just leave everything up to fate and destiny … or maybe I was. Maybe I was doing exactly what I was supposed to be doing. If you believed in that sort of thing.

I just hoped that before the chaos and mayhem renewed, I’d manage to get my hands on some chocolate. It didn’t even have to be single-origin Madagascar. I was utterly prepared to lower my standards.

REVIEW:   I am experiencing a sugar high coupled with chocolate bliss after reading TREASURES, DEMONS, and OTHER BLACK MAGIC by Meghan Ciana Doidge! Be prepared for a sensory overload of fast paced action, divine descriptions of chocolate and desserts and melt in your mouth descriptions of the scents of magic.

We are transported back into the thick of action with Jade and her gang! Jade has been missing for the past three months, because she has been training with her father’s kin. *spoiler alert from last novel* Yes, Jade’s dear dad is a Dragon! That’s why Jade is so powerful! She is shown a vision in The Nexus, that if she returns to her life without training, all of her friends and family will be killed. Jade escapes through a portal in Scotland, to pursue Sienna, her evil foster sister. A fledgling dragon named Drake tags along and soon steals the show! What a wonderful new character! Drake is a young, Zen-like Dragon that loves life and getting into trouble. They soon meet up with Kett, the ancient vampire and Kandy, who is Jade’s werewolf bodyguard. We follow the gang to London in pursuit of Sienna and to rescue Mory, the young Necromancer. What a showdown we have, but things are not over yet!!

The author takes us back to Canada for the final action! Jade figures out Sienna’s next move which is to reanimate demons! Jade unites the whole magic community in crushing her once and for all!! The Skinwalkers, Shifters, Witches, Necromancers and one sexy vampire team together. My only complaint was that Desmond, the uber-sexy Alpha shifter didn’t come into the story until 75% in!! That was NOT enough read time for Jade and Desmond’s hot off the charts banter! I won’t spoil any of the dramatic ending, if it is the ending? Oh Meghan, the mischief you create!! This is a thoroughly wonderful read that was full of action and characters that I adore! Plus, the chocolate descriptions were so divine and I still can fit into my jeans! Alas, I have been ruined for cheap chocolate! Enjoy Book 3 in the Dowser Series, it has all of the right ingredients!

If you’d asked me a week ago, I would have told you that the best cupcakes were dark chocolate with chocolate cream cheese icing, that dancing in a crowd of magic wielders — the Adept — was better than sex, and that my life was peaceful and uneventful. Just the way I liked it.

That’s what twenty-three years in the magical backwater of Vancouver will get you — a completely skewed sense of reality. Because when the dead werewolves started showing up, it all unraveled … except for the cupcake part. That’s a universal truth.

Three months ago, I lost my foster sister, Sienna, to the darkness. As in blood magic and chaos and general mayhem. No one saw it until it was too late, but I should have. Now, I have a wounded heart and soul that I can’t even reveal to anyone around me, because I’m supposed to hate Sienna with the fiery passion of the justified. And I do. I just wish I didn’t feel so lost without her, so unsure of the path I thought I had carved for myself, and so outclassed by the powerful Adepts constantly by my side these days. I’m not even sure if they’re with me for my own protection or because my shiny new powers are rare and valuable. Assuming I ever figure out who or what I am, and how my magic actually works.

Even chocolate can’t save the day every time … just most of the time. At least I’ve got that going for me.

Don't Blackmail the Vampire

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date April 28, 2014

Rachel Davis will do anything to get her sister out of a bad relationship with her fiancé. Even if it involves a few fibs, a little breaking-and-entering, and blackmailing the fiancé’s potential boss, Charles, for his help. So what if the handsome Charles happens to be a vampire?

Charles Wright has found the perfect way to trap the man threatening his brother’s wife: cozy up to him, get invited along on the skiing trip, and then search for incriminating evidence. How much better that audacious but gorgeous Rachel is just as eager to nail the bastard. As far as he’s concerned, there’s nothing wrong with a little blackmail between two consenting adults. Especially when it’s time for Rachel to pay up.

••••••••••••••

REVIEW: DON’T BLACKMAIL THE VAMPIRE is the second instalment in Tiffany Allee’s contemporary adult Sons of Kane paranormal romance series. This is Rachel Davis and vampire Charles Wright’s story. Although it is the second in the series, Don’t Blackmail The Vampire can be read as a standalone without too much difficulty.

Told from third person POV, the storyline follows Rachel and Charles as they set up Rachel’s future brother in law who is also the number one suspect in a series of threats against Charles future sister in law Alice. The fact that Charles is a vampire adds a heightened sense of mistrust as far as Rachel is concerned because her ultimate goal is to prove to her sister Kristen that Brent (her fiancé) cannot be trusted. As Charles and Rachel begin to pull Brent into their web, the threats against Charles’s SIL are mounting. Rachel’s heart is set on proving to her sister that Brent is no good and sets out to break up their relationship blackmailing Charles in the process.

The relationship between Rachel and Charles is slow to develop as a good portion of the storyline finds our couple engaged in a series of mishaps in order to find out the truth about Brent. Rachel and Kristen have a difficult time when it comes to trust and Rachel is determined to prove that no man can be trusted with their hearts or their love-in this, there is the push and pull of anxiety where Rachel’s heart is concerned. Charles wants a relationship with Rachel but Rachel is afraid of getting hurt and her only concern is proving Brent is slime. Her need and all encompassing desire to end her sister’s relationship blinds Rachel to what would become of the aftermath with the results.

The world building continues from book one-Don’t Bite The Bridesmaid-with the inclusion of Alice and Noah (Charles’s brother) who give a familiarity to the storyline but their story is not necessary to understand what is happening in the current plot as Tiffany reveals the information where needed.

DON’T BLACKMAIL THE VAMPIRE is a quick paced, humorous look at the paranormal. The characters are likeable and colorful; the sex scenes are hot and seductive; the conversations reveal the backstory and history that brought everyone to the present.

Tiffany Allee writes a captivating storyline that will please the romance as well as the paranormal lover-in all of us.

Alice Shepard needs one thing: a date for her sister’s wedding. And not just any date. A hunk who will make her fiancé rue the day he left her for her best friend. Her drop-dead gorgeous neighbor fits the bill—even if he is a bit quirky and never comes out during the day—and Alice has downed just enough appletinis to ask him. But she makes it quite clear that there will be no funny business.

Spending a week on a cruise ship full of humans while sleeping close to his sexy next-door neighbor sounds like a helluva bad idea to vampire Noah Thorpe. But his friends need time to get him out of a shotgun wedding—a vampire bonding that will tie his fate to a female vampire he’s never met. And Alice’s offer comes at just the right time.
What could possibly go wrong?

Excerpt Black and Hot Pink

Excerpt #2
“We got nowhere,” Rachel whispered, fumbling with her key card. Dammit. She could barely get her door open—no wonder she struggled with skiing.
“We’ll do better tomorrow, I’m sure.” Charles took a step back, and the door finally blinked green at her. Without pausing long enough to think about what she was doing, she shoved the door open and grabbed his arm, and pulled him into the room with her.
The door slammed shut behind them, and she felt along the wall, trying to find the light switch.
“If you wanted me in your bed, you could have asked. Although I am digging this ‘drag me along and have your way with me thing,’” he said.
“As if.” There—hah! The switch. Light flooded the room, and relief flooded her. Silly, because the vampire could attack her just as easily in the light as in the dark, but it made her feel better anyway.
Not that he looked ready to attack. A bemused expression covered his face. And really, she wasn’t sure it was an attack that she feared from him now. At least, not the suck-her-blood kind of attack.
“I mean, it’s not that I couldn’t get into the scenario you seem to have in mind. Would you like to club me over the head, too, before you drag me the rest of the way to your bed?”
She chose to ignore that. “I can’t believe how charming you aren’t. We made no progress tonight.”
“First, I’m quite charming. I keep telling you how charming I am, so I’m not sure why you keep forgetting. Brent was practically preening for me, he wants the job so badly. Second, I laid groundwork tonight. Your sister thinks I’m charming and mysterious and a good friend for rescuing you from that snowbank.”
She stopped pacing, still facing away from him, and said, “Thanks for that, by the way.”
“Saving damsels in distress is all in a day’s work for your friendly local vampire.”
She turned to face him. “Oh my God, are you messing up Spider-Man quotes to impress me or something?”

by Kym Grosso
Genre: contemporary,adult,paranormal, erotic, romance
Release Date: April 4, 2014

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble /

An erotic paranormal romance…

Seductive and lethal vampire, Léopold Devereoux, returns to the Big Easy to find a killer. His search leads him to a beautiful and mysterious woman, who awakens desires and emotions that he’s long fought to keep buried. After centuries of self-imposed solitude, the billionaire philanthropist struggles to restrain his growing thirst for the intriguing, lovely female who’s captured his attention.

Laryssa Theriot, an antiques proprietor in the Vieux Carré, agrees to help the commanding yet debonair stranger, who seeks her assistance. She withholds her secret abilities, afraid to trust the man who threatens to unleash her darkest fantasies. All the while, Léopold consumes her thoughts, testing her erotic limits and bringing her to new levels of ecstasy. As the menacing force that has stalked Laryssa for years finally catches up to her, she submits, putting her life into the hands of the dominant vampire who offers his protection.

Deep in the heart of New Orleans, they embark on a perilous adventure, forced to search for an ancient sacrificial relic that they hope will save their lives. As they face formidable challenges, Léopold and Laryssa surrender to the passionate intimacy that possesses them. After hundreds of years of denying himself love, will Léopold bond to the woman who has begun to crack the impenetrable shell around his heart? As evil draws near, will Laryssa survive the demon that has come to take her soul?

Warning: This book contains several erotic love scenes and is intended for adult readers only.

•••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: LEOPOLD’S WICKED EMBRACE is the fifth instalment in Kym Grosso’s contemporary, adult, erotic Immortals of New Orleans paranormal romance series. This is ancient vampire Leopold Devereoux and Laryssa Theriot’s storyline. Leopold has been a fixture in the Immortals of New Orleans series since the first book and the ancient vampire will finally get his story.

The premise focuses on a foundling baby-part wolf, part something else. Discovered by Leopold, the powerful vampire knows there is something different about this child. Leaving baby Ava with Logan (alpha wolf) and Kade, Leopold goes in search of the only person who may be able to tell him who and what she is.

Enter Laryssa Theriot-an antiques dealer and the woman who calls to Leopold’s soul. As the couple begins their search for any information that may lead to Ava’s identity, Laryssa will be confronted by the evil that has followed her all of her life. The evil wants something from Laryssa and the baby is the bargaining chip used to pull Laryssa into the demands.

The relationship between Leopold and Laryssa is sensual, seductive and a little bit wicked. As an ancient, Leopold is believed to be the oldest and most powerful of his kind but with it comes heartache and memories of everything that he lost in the past. Denying his attraction to Laryssa only amplifies his need and in the end he will lose his heart and his soul to the spirited woman with unusual powers.

Kym Grosso has written an engaging, compelling and passionate storyline where an ancient vampire has been given a second chance at love. The world building continues throughout the series with the inclusion of many of the former storyline characters that gives Leopold’s story a sense of the familiar. We get an intimate look at the ancient vampire’s protective nature; the allure of family; and a love that he never thought would happen (again).

excerpt

Laryssa had heard the customer behind her, but the damn mirror wire wouldn’t seem to catch right. It kept slipping and she cursed under her breath, hoping she wouldn’t drop it. If she could just hold it up a minute longer, she could get it to hang squarely on the wall. She fingered the hook that she’d just renailed into the wall and then moved her thumb over to the thin metal string. With a final shove upward, she attempted to flick it into place. But as the wire caught, it sliced into her flesh. A sharp sting threw her off balance, and her pumps began to waver. Shit. Not again.
“Oh my God!” Laryssa squeaked as she fell backwards, fully expecting to crack her head open on one of the many sharp-edged desks that sat adjacent to where she’d been working. As she felt strong male hands slide up under her ribcage, grazing her breasts, she gasped. She wasn’t sure whether to thank the stranger or call the police, but as she turned her face to try to see him, she immediately recognized her rescuer.
“It’s you,” she stammered, clutching his arms. Laryssa giggled nervously, realizing how once again she’d foolishly fallen in front of the sexy vampire. And like last night, he’d caught her. She couldn’t believe how clumsy she’d all of a sudden become. She tried to relax and find her footing, but her heart was beating so fast that she could barely think. What is he doing here in my shop? How did he find me?
Like a story book flipping pages, her mind whirled until she remembered what she’d done last night at the club. She’d fought off the asshole who’d grabbed her at the bar. The feel of his hands around her throat had forced her fear into overdrive. The knife had only been a few inches away, but still too far. Desperation had taken over as her power surged, calling the blade to her fingertips. Jamming it into his neck was as instinctive as breathing. Kill or be killed, she’d always choose the former. She’d run into the alley, refusing to discuss it with management. The only one who knew her was Avery and there was no way her friend would have divulged her identity to the vampire. She’d be more likely to turn him into a three horned sheep before she’d squeal. The only way the vampire could have found her would have been if he’d followed her home.
A brush to her breast reminded her that she was still being held upright by him, and Laryssa felt her face grow red. Arousal licked over her skin. Cautiously, she rooted her shoes on the floor and turned around, steeling her nerves.
“I’m so sorry,” she said.
“My pleasure, mademoiselle, but I suggest you avoid heights in the future.”
Surreptitiously, she stole a glance at him, which reminded her how incredibly handsome he was. His short dark hair was perfectly coiffed. His white dress shirt hung casually over the waistband of his jeans. Laryssa forced herself to look away, trying not to stare at the masculine features of his face. Straight nose, square jaw and perfectly kissable lips… lips that were smooth talking and way too articulate, teasing her with every word he spoke. Beads of sweat broke out across her forehead. It felt as if someone had turned up the heat, her skin was on fire. She noticed his eyes were no longer on hers and had dropped to her chest. They lingered only a second, and then he met her gaze and smiled. She looked downward and noticed that several buttons had come undone in her fall, revealing the edges of her white lace bra. Could this day get any more embarrassing? Laryssa’s fingers shook as she buttoned her sweater.
“I’m so sorry. I just…you just…I just…” Great, first I’m a klutz and now I can’t speak. She bit her lip, paused and then took a deep breath before starting again. “Thank you for catching me.”
“Again.” Léopold watched her as she adjusted her clothes, wishing to rip the rest of the pearly buttons from their fragile seams. But he refused to let the beast within take what it wanted. No, he’d find out what the hell she was before showing her his true nature. “Yes, thank you…again.” She smoothed down her skirt, trying to pretend she hadn’t just fallen into his arms and let him feel her up in the process. Business, think business. Her pulse slowed and she willed herself to appear nonchalant.
“We met last night, remember?” he pressed. Léopold smiled and ran his hand over the colorful marquetry in rosewood that scrolled through a seventeenth century secretaire. Interesting that she could deliberately control the flow of her blood. It further piqued his concern about her species. What was she?
Laryssa’s eyes met his, widening at the confirmation that he knew exactly who she was.
“Yes, yes I do. But I’m afraid I didn’t catch your name.” Vampire. Big bad vampire. Laryssa watched intently as he fingered the furniture, trailing his thumb over the symmetrical scenes as if he was caressing a lover.
“Lovely.” Léopold flashed his eyes to hers.
“What?” Laryssa realized that he was toying with her, purposefully trying to make her nervous.
“I said, it’s lovely. The neoclassical architectural structures. The white marble top. Doré bronze mounts.”
“Is there something specific I can help you with?”
“You get directly to the point?” Léopold had intended to play with her a bit, throw her off her game. Yet his little rabbit wasn’t frozen in the field like he’d anticipated. No, she rebounded nicely, and now stood confidently like a wildcat, poised to attack.
“I don’t really have time to waste. So yeah, I’d like to know why you followed me from the club. And I really want to know what you are doing in my shop.”
Léopold merely laughed and crossed the room to admire a chair and matching settee.
“Circa 1775?”
Laryssa walked over and placed her hand on the elegant Louis XVI chair. “Yes. How did you know? It’s a very special piece. It has the mark of Versailles Palace on it.”
“Indeed.” Léopold sat in the chair, wrapping his fingers around its arms. “Nothing but the best. Fit for a king.”
“And I suspect you’d like being a king.” She put her hands on her hips, waiting for him to respond.
“Ah, a king I never was. But I’ve dined with kings, and I can assure you that while they enjoy the extravagances of the rich, they often lose their heads. Easy come, easy go.”
“Why are you here?” Laryssa brushed her hair back, attempting to regain her composure. “Are you looking for something specific?”
“Oui, pet. But not an antique. While I do enjoy shopping, this is hardly the time.” Léopold lost the smile, allowing his eyes to pierce hers. “So I shall get to the point. What are you?”
Laryssa lost her ability to rein in her pulse and her heart began to fiercely pump hot blood through her veins. Her lips tightened, and she clenched her jaw. How dare he ask about her? What the hell did he want from her anyway? Dear God, she had enough issues with the darkness on her tail and now he was asking about her origins.
“What do you mean, ‘what am I?’ I’m the owner of this store. Does that answer your question?” Laryssa asked, her voice growing louder. “Who are you?”
“Léopold Devereoux. That’s who I am. I can be your angel or nightmare, depending on the day. So listen up. What. Are. You?” Léopold didn’t make a move. He sat completely still, anticipating her answer.

SAVING HIS MATE (Crescent Moon #4) by Savannah Stuart-a review

Saving His Mate

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date May 1, 2014

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble /

From the moment vampire bounty-hunter Rex Serano meets sexy shifter Margery, he’s smitten. When the alpha of the Kincaid pack asks him to join with them, he’s stunned by the offer, but the real draw is the beautiful, caring female who seems to want nothing to do with him.

Margery is the driving maternal force for her pack and she has one rule: she doesn’t date vampires. Years ago she was nearly killed by rogue vamps and she has no interest in getting involved with one now. No matter how sexy a certain, persistent bounty hunter might be.

When one of Rex’s hunts gets messy, Margery gets caught in the crossfire and he’ll do whatever it takes to protect her. They might be different species but the mating call is undeniable and too strong to ignore. Now they must find a way to reach common ground and trust their instincts if they’re going to fight for a future together.

•••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SAVING HIS MATE is the fourth instalment in Savannah Stuart’s (aka Katie Reus) adult, contemporary Crescent Moon paranormal romance novella series. This is wolf shifter Margery and vampire bounty hunter Rex Serano’s storyline. Although this is the fourth in the series, SAVING HIS MATE can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty.

While on the hunt for a rogue vampire, Rex crosses into the Kincaid Pack territory where he will meet wolf-shifter Margery. Rex knows immediately that Margery is his mate but convincing the reticent shifter is another matter. Margery has a history with the vampires and she wants nothing to do with Rex or his kind. When Rex is offered a position within the Pack he knows that his future with Margery is almost a guarantee.

The relationship between Rex and Margery is quick to develop as there is only so much room in a novella series to tell a story. From friends to lovers theirs is a relationship that is beckoned by the fates. There is an immediate attraction between our couple-one not readily accepted by all of the vampires or shifters-and in this Margery will become the pawn in a bigger game. Rex is a well respected and trustworthy vampire and, Margery is the Pack ‘mother’ who ensures everyone is looked after.

Savannah Stuart pulls the reader into a quick paced, romantic and sexy storyline. The secondary characters are colorful and bring a sense a familiarity to the story as the world building continues with the previous storyline characters and landscape.

If you are a fan of Katie Reus than Savannah Stuart’s Crescent Moon series is sure to please. There is a little bit of everything-romance, sex, suspense and a happily ever after.

SNAP White Nights

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO /

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 17, 2014

SNAP: White Nights, the seventh book in The Kandesky Vampire Chronicles, is now out!

White Nights continues the love story of Maxie, a regular, and Jean-Louis, a five hundred year old Hungarian vampire. And it begins the story of Nik, a Kandesky vampire and Jazz, a regular who’s climbing the ladder of success at SNAP, the world’s largest and richest celebrity gossip empire.

Set in Kiev, Ukraine and St. Petersburg, Russia, the lovers confront gangsters, rival vampires and international tensions as Kiev faces uprisings and the deposing of the Ukrainian president.

I love writing the Kandesky Chronicles. I’m half in love with Jean-Louis. Their world is so filled with challenge, wealth, fear, political plots and danger that falling in love is one more hurdle to overcome.

Because of its setting, White Nights has contemporary events woven into the plot. Writing as current events are changing the setting for the characters was a challenge for me, as the author. I’d watch the news for the latest happening in Kiev, then go back and rewrite Maxie’s story to reflect the chaos.

Just as in the real world, there’s no resolution to the Ukraine/Russia conflict. And the intimate conflicts between the lovers? This is playing out, too.

Coming later this spring is Book Eight, SNAP: All That Jazz.

REVIEW: The next SNAP is White Nights, and oh what nights they are! Ms. Drier has done it again, she taken us back to the world of the Kandesky vampires, wealth, fashion, travel, incredible passion and romance; and as always has some intrigue and danger mixed in.
In White Nights you can expect more of the magnificently sexy Jean-Louis and Maxie; but wait..there’s a new coupling on the rise! The ever efficient and bubbly Jazz meets the sleek and golden Nik…ahhh! It’s instant ultra-attraction for them both.

There are wonderful parties, exotic places and people. The road is never quite smooth, with great wealth and power come enemies, and those they love are often the easier targets for those enemies. Jazz and Nik have a few bumps as she learns the world of the Kandeskys. Jazz has worked for SNAP and is very good at her job, but the incredible power of this family as well as the wealth is a real eye opener for her.

She soon learns it’s not all fun and games, with all the good comes probably an equal and sometimes a little unequal bad. Can she handle it? Will Nik’s love be able to overcome her fear? Oh you’ve got to read this!

Just when Maxie thought her brutal attackers were all gone, the one who was missing is back! Vengeance and power is his game and Maxie and Jazz are his targets. An enemy of both Jean-Louis and Nik, Jules is the monster who …oops…almost did too many spoilers! Well, if you’ve read the others you know who he is, if you haven’t – what the heck is stopping you?

This is great paranormal romance ladies. Vampires, were-wolves, demons, and so much more stuff we girls love to play with! (Chuckling)

Personally, I can’t wait for the next installment of this wonderful series; I’m really looking forward to it!

Grab a glass of your favorite beverage, (I found a new local winery – yummm) kickback and dive into this wonderful story! Enjoy everyone, I did!

KISSING WITH FANGS (Flirting With Fangs #3) by Ashlyn Chase

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 4, 2014

Claudia Fletcher has her MBA and a stellar resume, so when the bar she manages burns down, she could easily move on to bigger and better things. But something about the bar owner, Anthony Cross makes it impossible to leave.

Anthony has never let on to the general public that he’s a vampire, and most of his staff members have no idea Boston Uncommon was a safe gathering place for supernaturals of all kinds. Now that it’s nothing but ash, the tentative peace among warring factions is starting to crumble. The last thing he wants to do is put Claudia in danger, but he also knows there’s no way he can let her go…

••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: KISSING WITH FANGS is the third instalment in Ashlyn Chase’s paranormal, adult, romance series Flirting With Fangs-a spin off from her Strange Neighbors Trilogy. Although this is the third in the series, it can be read as a stand alone without too much difficulty-most of the previous storyline and series characters play minor to major roles in the story. The one thing in common is BOSTON UNCOMMON-the paranormal bar managed by our heroine Claudia Fletcher and owned by our hero Anthony Cross.

Following the devastating blaze that destroyed the bar, Claudia Fletcher disappears from Anthony’s life. Anthony is a vampire and Claudia is one of the rare humans who was once employed by Boston Uncommon and she knew nothing about the paranormal crowd or their connections to her boss and the man with whom she had fallen in love. When Anthony finally tracks her down, Claudia has a secret she believes will destroy Anthony’s faith in everything that she is.

Anthony Cross is a vampire who was turned several centuries earlier. The paranormal world must keep their identity secret from the human world but it becomes increasingly difficult trying to blend into a world where humans are willing to expose you for a price. When shifters and witches begin to disappear, Anthony and his friends begin a search for the people responsible only to discover that he may have lead them directly to his front door. When he and Claudia embark on a new business adventure together, the people hoping to take them down may have uncovered another hub of paranormal activity.

Anthony and Claudia’s relationship has been developing for close to five years but have ignored the proverbial elephant in the room-their mutual attraction to one another. But Anthony’s secret must remain hidden otherwise he will feel the wrath of Gaia and in doing so, places Claudia’s life in danger from a woman from Anthony’s past.

Kissing With Fangs is the final instalment in the Flirting With Fangs trilogy but there are many more stories to tell and I hope Ashlyn has a story for everyone. If you like a storyline with a little bit of mystery, suspense, romance and sex, then Flirting With Fangs is the read for you.The characters are colorful; their stories of finding love while struggling to survive will pull you in.The world building continues throughout the series with the familiarity of previous storyline characters and scenarios. Anthony and Claudia are definitely relatable –Claudia with her demons and Anthony with his secrets.

My excerpt-sharing virtual tour for Kissing with Fangs continues today, here on The Reading Café! If readers are interested in catching up with what has already been posted, be sure to check the schedule below!

To set up today’s scene: Claudia Fletcher has her MBA and a stellar resume, so when the bar she manages burns down, she could easily move on to bigger and better things. But her secret love for the bar owner, Anthony Cross makes it impossible.

Anthony has never let on to the general public that he’s a vampire, and most of his staff members have no idea Boston Uncommon was a safe gathering place for supernaturals of all kinds. Now that it’s nothing but ash, the tentative peace among hostile factions is starting to crumble. And damned if every paranormal’s worst fear is coming true. A group of human brainiacs have captured and begun experimenting on them.

Scene 6:
Anthony’s flashback to the early days of his now ruined bar.

Almost five years ago, Anthony had been chatting with Claudia in his office when a loud crash came from the bar. Voices shouted and another crash followed.

They charged out of the office, tripping over each other. A bar brawl was in progress, with one gentleman clearly getting the worst end of it. The bouncer, Kurt, jumped between them and pushed. The guys stumbled back a few feet but came at each other with renewed vigor.

Anthony was removing his jacket when Kurt called out, “Stay where you are. I’ve got this.”

He took down the guy who reached him first and sat on him. Just as the other one was about to take advantage of the situation, another customer tackled the guy, rose, and tucked him under his arm like a football.

“Where do you want this one?” he asked Kurt.

Kurt got up and yanked his guy off the floor by his belt. “You toss that one out the back, and I’ll send this one headfirst out the front door onto the sidewalk.”

The helpful customer simply nodded, carried the stunned fighter to the back exit, opened the door, and tossed him into the alley.
Meanwhile, Kurt opened the front door, and despite the guy’s loud protest, did what he said he’d do…sent the other fighter sprawling onto the sidewalk.

As the helpful, yet unfamiliar, customer returned, Anthony stuck out his hand.

“Thanks for your help.”

“Anytime.” He grasped Anthony’s hand and shook it. “Are you the owner?”

“Yes. Anthony Cross. And you are?”

“Tory Montana.”

Someone at the bar whirled around on his stool and said, “Tory Montana. I thought you looked familiar. You played for the Steelers, right? What are you doing in Boston?”

Tory tucked his hands in his pockets. “House-sitting for friends. I’m flattered you remember me. I retired in 2006.”

“Seriously?” As the two customers began a conversation, Anthony strolled over to Kurt, who was setting a chair upright.

“What happened?”

Kurt shrugged. “To be honest, nothing. They just walked in here and started throwing punches like they’d already been having an argument.

Anthony lowered his voice. “Montana’s freakishly strong, if you know what I mean. Maybe we should invite him to the back booth for a free beer—and careful discussion.”

“I read you loud and clear, boss.”

And that’s how the coyote shapeshifter became Anthony’s second bouncer.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date November 11, 2013

This holiday season has bite.

Ben Prescott hates Christmas—he’s a vampire, and to him, there’s certainly nothing jolly about the holiday season. While the humans are running around being merry, he’s hunting in the shadows. Ben plans to spend the holidays his way…by stalking deadly prey.

But fate has other plans for Ben.

Three visitors are coming Ben’s way…A demon who will force Ben to face his past, a ghost who will show Ben the present he could have, and a shifter who will reveal the darkness that waits in Ben’s future. Unless Ben can change his ways, he may just turn into a real monster, one who can’t be saved by anyone or anything.

’Tis the season…to be undead.

Ben’s redemption rests in the hands of the one woman he loved and lost—Simone Laurent. If Ben is going to have a chance at being more than just the beast in the darkness, he has to prove himself to the lovely Simone. A very hard task, considering that, once upon a Christmas Eve, Simone died in Ben’s arms…

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: A VAMPIRE’S CHRISTMAS CAROL is a twist on the Dicken’s classic with a little bit of The Gift of the Magi thrown in for good measure.

The storyline focuses on vampire Ben Prescott and the three visitors who are about to open his eyes to the possibility of a future with the woman he lost ten years before.

Like the original Dickens’s classic, our ‘hero’ is on a destructive path and no one is safe when Ben needs to feed. Ben is a vampire who justifies his kills attacking the criminal element and those who have killed or attacked someone else. But Ben has made an error in judgment and his latest target is an innocent. What transpires is the ‘what if’ of one vampire’s actions on Christmas Eve. Three visits in three hours will put everything into perspective for a reluctant vampire who has lost the only woman he has ever loved.

Cynthia Eden’s re-telling of the Dickens’s Christmas Carol will tug at your heart when sacrifices are made to ensure our vampire heads down a different path.

A Vampire’s Christmas Carol is darker than normal holiday story but one that will end with a happily ever after. There is a little bit of romance, a little bit of heartbreak and a whole lot of Christmas spirit.

*whispering* and YES that is Francesco J. Cura on the cover 😉

Daylighters (The Morganville Vampires #15) by Rachel Caine-a review

Daylighters by Rachel Caine-The Morganville Vampires Book #15

Daylighters

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

About the book: November 5, 2013

Something drastic has happened in Morganville while Claire and her friends were away. The town looks cleaner and happier than they’ve ever seen it before, but when their incoming group is arrested and separated—vampires from humans—they realize that the changes definitely aren’t for the better.

It seems that an organization called the Daylight Foundation has offered the population of Morganville something they’ve never had: hope of a vampire-free future. And while it sounds like salvation—even for the vampires themselves—the truth is far more sinister and deadly.

Now, Claire, Shane and Eve need to find a way to break their friends out of Daylighter custody, before the vampires of Morganville meet their untimely end…

Review:

I can’t believe that this is the last book in the series and that I’ll no longer hear from this group of fabulous people, human and vampire alike. Wow……..just wow…………..

Daylighters begins at the exact point where the previous book, Fall of Night, ends. Claire, Shane, Michael and Eve, along with Oliver, Jesse and Myrnin, make their way back to Morganville, only to be intercepted by the police. What’s worse? The vampires are staked, (which doesn’t kill them, just incapacitates them, depending on the type of stake used), and taken away in ambulances. Claire, Shane and Eve are taken into custody by Hannah Moses, police chief and long time friend. Or is she still a friend?

On their way, they can’t believe their eyes. People are out walking around, visiting, all the while, NOT having to look over their shoulders. Businesses have received paint jobs. The landscaping is immaculate. New businesses are springing up. Hmmmm……. They soon discover a very charismatic Mr. Fallon, for all intents and purposes, has taken over Morganville. His mission? To rid the world of the evil vampires with a cure he’s developed. The catch? The 23% success rate.

Through a series of events, they are finally taken to see Michael. He’s being held at the “enclave”, which is the old mall, with all of the other vampires. They have been fitted with collars that will basically decapitate them if they try to leave, and on top of that, he’s keeping them hungry. Yippee…….. Will Claire, Shane and Eve, mere humans, once again be able to save life as they know it in Morganville? Let’s just say, things will never be the same………….

The first thing that I’ll say is that “sad” does not really convey how I feel about this series ending. It was actually my first foray into the Young Adult genre. And, thanks to Morganville, there are now several YA series that I love. Now, about the book. Daylighters was very well written. The action started on page one and kept my attention until the very end. There was a lot going on in this book. New characters, namely the Daylighters, added a fanaticism to the story, which is a new thing for this series and added a layer that some will like and some will not. I am in the “not” category. I can’t really go into what actually happens because there is a HUGE HUGE HUGE development with one of the main characters and I don’t want to give anything away. Other than that tidbit, Daylighters was a great story. Rachel Caine did a great job in tying up the loose ends. Claire & Shane and Michael & Eve will sorely be missed, as will Amelie, Oliver and my dear, sweet, lovable Myrnin. It seems as though they all will have what they’ve wanted all along……..their happily ever after. Oh, how I love this series and will truly miss hearing more for them.

Thank you Rachel Caine for introducing us to Morganville.
