ABOUT THE BOOK:Release Date September 28, 2021.

Jet Lassiter likes being a pilot for Argeneau Inc. Perks included travelling to exotic locations and meeting interesting people, even if they are the blood-sucking kind. He’s living the good life, until his plane goes down in the mountains and four of his passengers are gravely injured. They need blood to heal… and Jet is the only source.

Quinn Peters never wanted to be immortal. Once a renowned heart surgeon, she was turned against her will and now she has to drink blood to survive. Before she can ask how her “life” can get any worse, she’s in a plane crash. One of the few survivors, Quinn is desperate to get the mortal pilot to safety before her fellow immortals succumb to their blood lust and drain Jet dry.

But hungry vampires are the least of their worries—the crash wasn’t an accident, and someone is trying to kill Quinn. Will she and Jet find their happily ever after as life mates, or will her assassin find her first?

•••••••

REVIEW: Mile High with a Vampire begins with Quinn Peters asleep on a flight aboard an Argeneau jet. She awakens to loud noises and debris flying everywhere. The next thing she sees is the ground rushing up to meet them and a gaping hole in the side of the plane. She hears an engine start and then the plane leveled out as it tore through the woods and slammed to an abrupt stop. Thankful to be alive, she speaks with another who is on the plane, and they check on the ones still aboard.

Jet Lassiter comes to and sees that the plane is on the ground, but also sees that his friend and mentor had been killed on impact. Jeff Miller had been a great pilot and Jet would miss him terribly. The next thing he saw was a “she-pire” (why in the world would an Argeneau employee ever use that word???) approaching Jeff and he yells at her to get away from him. When Quinn turns toward him, he immediately recognizes her and knows a little bit of her story. If he were being honest with himself, she had starred in a fantasy or two of his, but first things first………. they must get away from the wreckage before the other immortals who were horribly injured in the crash come to and look for the only thing that can help them: blood. Even though Quinn was immortal, Jet wasn’t, and she knew she’d never be able to keep them off him.

Quinn and Jet put as much distance as possible between themselves, the wreckage and the three immortals who were bound to be coming after them. As they navigate the forest around them, they are both aware they are running out of time. They eventually make it to an outpost of sorts that has a small crew of people working there. To say they have their work cut out for them trying to secure the facility, its people and themselves is an understatement. They do what they can until the calvary arrives. What neither of them expected was the pull they have towards each other. However, once they are taken to the enforcer house, things begin to make more sense, even though they both resist at first.

Mile High with a Vampire is a nice addition to the series. I really liked Quinn and Jet’s character development. I just wish there had been more conversation and less of them with their own thoughts. Quinn’s backstory ends up having a lot more layers than we initially learned of in a previous book. The chemistry between Quinn and Jet started slow but soon blossomed into what you expect from Sands. I always love getting to see the characters we’ve come to know and love over the last thirty-two books (this being the thirty-third). If you’re a fan of the genre and a fan of Sands, you’ll certainly enjoy this one! Well done, Lynsay Sands! Very well done!

“Do you?”

Quinn blinked her thoughts away at that question and peered up at Jet blankly, wondering when he’d moved in front of her. She could feel the heat of his body, he was so close.

“Do I what?” she asked with confusion.

“Like me?” he asked with amusement, and when she flushed and started to lower her head, Jet caught her chin with one finger and raised it back up, not letting her escape. “Come now. Be fair. You can read my mind so you know that I think you’re incredibly beautiful and have been crazy stupid attracted to you ever since I flew you, Marguerite, and Julius to Toronto from Albany four years ago.”

Quinn’s eyes widened at that news, because she hadn’t read his mind and hadn’t known that. She hadn’t even known he’d been her pilot before this flight.

“Surely you can at least tell me if you find me even a little attractive and might like me the teensiest bit?”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date August, 4, 2020

Hockey player Gabriella “Gabi” Welk spent her life in pursuit of championships, but she has little to show for it besides dusty trophies and second-place medals. Now her career consists of several part-time jobs to make ends meet. When Gabi gets a chance at her dream job, she swallows her pride and asks her nemesis–smart, sexy and savvy Nolan Lund–for help.

Since being named future CEO of Lund Industries, Nolan has tried hard to overcome his reputation as a fun-loving playboy and ladies’ man. For the first time ever, he’s more focused on the company than his personal life. He spends his free time at the ice rink his brother owns, cheering on his niece at her hockey games…and watching Gabriella Welk, the superstar athlete and assistant coach who gets under his skin in a way he can’t ignore. He’s shocked when Gabi agrees to trade a favor for a favor.

They have little in common besides their mutual mistrust, but between family crises and sibling rivalries, Nolan and Gabi realize they want to be more than just friends–much more.

••••••••

REVIEW: Want You to Want Me begins with Nolan Lund having a meeting with his brother, Brady. Once Nolan figures out that he’s just Brady’s sounding board, he is not happy. He leaves the meeting and heads to his own office, on a different floor than the other “executives”. Nolan is the “CEO in waiting” but is having a hard time with his family not taking him seriously, even though he is putting in the hours and trying to leave his playboy past behind.

Gabi Welk had spent most of her life being an elite athlete playing hockey. Once she retired, the last place she thought she would find herself is holding down several part-time jobs in order to pay the bills. One of those jobs being a coach for one of the youth teams at a facility owned by Nolan’s brother. She also never thought that her boyfriend would be breaking up with her for her sister.

Nolan overhears Gabi being broken up with and feels bad for her. The two of them, Nolan and Gabi, have had a love/hate relationship (mostly hate, it seems) since the first time they met. Gabi is not someone Nolan would normally be attracted to and the same goes for Gabi. Nolan is a fashionista and Gabi……..is not.

On a night out, Gabi and Nolan cross paths, which leaves them both a bit off kilter. They eventually strike up a sort of friendship that is surprisingly easy for each of them. Nolan is in charge of the Lund Cares Community Outreach project this year and persuades Gabi to help, which she is more than happy to do. Gabi then finds herself in need of some help because she has landed an interview that would be a dream job: sports broadcaster. Knowing she needs to impress at the interview, she approaches Nolan for help with her wardrobe.

Gabi has a good feeling about how her interview went and signed an NDA, which isn’t a problem as she and Nolan don’t really discuss much about their work. As time progresses, Nolan finds himself at odds with his family and his role in it, as well as his role at Lund Industries. The one thing the two of them are sure about is that they have developing feelings towards each other. However, as things begin to happen and transition in their professional lives, misunderstandings abound that, unfortunately, affect their personal lives as well.

Want You to Want Me is an amazing addition to the Want You series, which is a spin off of the Need You series. I’ve wanted Nolan’s story for a long time and Gabi is an added bonus. Both characters are desperate in that they just want to be accepted and acknowledged for who they are and what they contribute both personally and professionally. The chemistry between the two if them literally jumps off the page and pulls you in. The vulnerability that you feel from them, however, is the heart of this book. If you’re a fan of the genre, you will never go wrong with one of James’ stories. As with the other books in her series, this one leaves you wanting the next. Well done, Lorelei James!! Very, very, very well done!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 21, 2020

Isla Scott seeks to enhance her sexual repertoire, and she’s using every available app to do so. But no matter what buttons she pushes, she isn’t having much luck during her frequent coffeehouse dating rendezvous. If she’s to eventually satisfy Mr. Right—and herself—in every way, she needs to gain some more experience. But so far she’s only encountered duds.

Grayson Hawkins’s marriage fell apart when he caught his wife with his best friend. Emotionally bankrupt, he’s left her and his high-pressure job to start over in a new town. A clean slate for the artist. A new coffeehouse to patronize. A fresh page on which he can draw his illustrations.

Grayson and Isla form an unconventional pact where he agrees to be her sex guru to help her gain the experience she seeks in trade for permission for him to sketch her comical dates for his newspaper’s Instagram page. But such a pact doesn’t come without pitfalls, and Isla must make a decision. Does she apply her newfound knowledge on one of her dates, or will she realize her Sexpert was always the one?

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

••••••••

REVIEW: Misadventures with a Sexpert begins with Grayson Hawkins at work having yet another unwanted conversation with his boss at the Daily Gazette. After leaving the meeting, in which he has been told he has to take over their social media accounts, he heads out and ends up at a local coffee shop, the Coffee Bean. He discovered the place when he’d moved out of the city several months ago after going through a divorce that left him hurt and angry. He has been trying to find his passion for drawing again, but not having much luck.

Isla Scott has promised her sister that she will go along with her plan to date more. Isla picked the Coffee Bean as the place to meet her prospective beaus. To say things didn’t go well was a bit of an understatement. For one reason or another, the ones coming in had been all wrong for her. Some of them hilariously wrong.

Grayson couldn’t help but notice Isla and wonder what she was up to. He found himself intrigued with Isla and her ‘experiment’. Once he figured out what she was actually doing, he made it his duty to be there every week when Isla was meeting up with her prospective dates. Eventually, Grayson approached Isla and told her she had made the right decision in letting her current prospect go. Isla had noticed Grayson before, but hadn’t given it much thought. Grayson then asked Isla if she’d like to join him. As she was about to decline the offer, she noticed his drawing of the prospect who had just left. After commenting on the drawing, she left.

The next week, Isla was at the Coffee Bean once again, waiting on the next one, only to be let down……again. Isla then approached Grayson and figured out that he had been sketching all of her encounters, which made her laugh. From there, the two of them form a friendship of sorts. However, once they start getting to know each other, Isla confesses that she’s not very experienced when it comes to men and makes an offer to Grayson: the two of them could be friends with benefits and he could teach her things about sex. Not that she was a virgin, but as stated before, she didn’t have much experience.

Grayson found himself stunned and excited at the same time. Isla had become his muse, of sorts, and he had found his passion for drawing again. So, why not? As the two of them get to know each other, two things are certain: their chemistry is off the charts and their friendship easy. However, when Isla finally meets a guy she’s interested in, why is Grayson at the forefront of her mind? And why does Grayson feel so confused about Isla finally meeting a good guy? After all, the both of them had been so sure of the ground rules they had put in place.

Misadventures with a Sexpert is a great addition to the Misadventures series. The characters are relatable and nicely written. The chemistry between Isla and Grayson is off the charts. I loved their interactions and found myself laughing out loud at times. If you’re a fan of the Misadventures series, and just romance in general, you’ll love the world Hayley has created in this installment. Well done, Elizabeth Hayley!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date July 17, 2020

Six years.
Seventy-two months.
Over two thousand days.
That’s what I’d dedicated to that guitar-playing a*sehole, Danny Silver.
Now I, Daisy Piper, was left to pick up the wreckage of his love while he ran off with the band to find fortune and fame.

Life went on without him, and a new man soon rescued me from the ashes of Danny, but a part of my heart remained a little broken, no matter who tried to fix it. First loves can’t be forgotten so easily, and when Danny returned to our small hometown in Devon—famous and adored by millions—I couldn’t stop myself from wanting to get a glimpse of the man I’d once laid beside, to see how much he’d changed.

The smallest actions make for the biggest mistakes, and a single look into Danny’s eyes was all it took before I ran. I ran because the spark that came to life inside felt dangerous, and I wasn’t the kind of girl who enjoyed getting burnt twice.

But running from a rock star isn’t as easy as I thought it would be, and with Danny’s sights now firmly set on me again, all I could do was pray that he got bored of the chase. That he thought life in Devon was too slow for him, and that he craved the bright lights of the city, as well as the noise of the stadium.

If he didn’t, I was about to ruin everything for everyone.

Especially myself, and my stupid little Silver-lined heart.

••••••••

REVIEW:Ghost Note begins with long time couple Danny Silver and Daisy Piper out for a walk along the shore. The last thing that Daisy ever expected was for Danny to tell her he was leaving to pursue a music career with his fellow bandmates. Broken hearted, Daisy does the only thing she can……….she runs.

Years later, Daisy finds herself in a pretty good place. She has a gift shop that does well and enjoys the tourists who stroll in and out. She also has a male friend, Ben, with whom she sees regularly. Her anchor, though, is her best friend, Gina, who also happens to be her silent business partner. Gina was also the one who helped put Daisy back together after Danny left and he hasn’t been seen in their hometown since.

Daisy and Gina are together, later, when Gina receives a phone call. Daisy immediately knows something is wrong. Gina tells her that Danny’s grandmother has passed away, which upsets Daisy. They had been close for years, but what infuriates Daisy more is the fact that she knows he won’t show up for the funeral……..because he didn’t even come for his parents’ services.

Daisy and Gina attend the service and then later go to a small gathering. As they sit having a drink, Jackson, Gina’s little brother, runs in with some big news of his own: the one and only Danny Silver is indeed in town. Daisy feels everyone’s eyes on her and the news is delivered. Finding herself a bit overwhelmed by the attention, she leaves and heads out. She later is so restless that she decides to walk down to the beach for some fresh air. She is sitting alone when she sees someone headed towards her. Yep, Danny Silver. The encounter doesn’t go well and Daisy makes her way back home.

Of course, with her hometown being so small, she was bound to run into Danny. And, she did. However, when he finally convinces her to talk to him, things that she thought she knew ended up being a little more complicated than she had ever known. She now finds herself doubting everything that she thought she knew not only about Danny, but about her heart.

Ghost Note is a wonderfully written story of second chances. Daisy and Danny are both wonderfully written. The two had been together since they were fourteen, so the breakup was hard on them both. They had both tried to move on from each other, but when it is revealed that they both had failed spectacularly, you feel your heart melt just a little more. They have mega chemistry, but when truths are revealed and Daisy sees what could have been, and gets a taste of it? It. Is. Palpable. The secondary characters are well written and intriguing as well. I had no idea this is a series, but can totally be read as a stand alone. I will go back and read the previous stories though, because Ghost Note was that good. If you’re a fan of the genre, you’ll not go wrong with this one. Well done, Vicki James!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Natasha White has always been unlucky in love. The men she falls for only want one thing from her, and it isn’t commitment. When her boss and on/off fling announces his engagement to another woman, she finds herself running from her feelings for him by taking a job as a personal assistant to the legendary rock god, Alex Harbour—half a world away.

Her new boss is sexy, damaged, and insatiable, but Natasha has been a fan since she was a young girl. Conflicted by her emotions, she begins a love/hate relationship with the egotistical rock star.

Alex’s intentions toward her are clear from the moment they meet, but Natasha isn’t about to run from one emotionless connection to another. She is determined to keep her distance from her childhood crush, by any means necessary.

When lust begins to cloud her mind, however, she becomes hell bent on protecting her heart. What good could ever come out of falling for a rock star, anyway?

••••••••

REVIEW:Wonderlust begins with Natasha White at her wits end. David, her boss at Flavour Records, with whom she has had an on again/off again relationship, announces that he’s engaged. She’s known for a while that she needed to something different and get away from David, but that engagement sealed the deal.

Natasha goes in for a job interview with Gina, who handled lots of people in the music industry, thinking her chances of landing the job were small. She finds herself surprised when she makes it to the next round, even though they haven’t told her that she would be the personal assistant for. When they head to the penthouse in the building for the second interview, she is assured it is for security purposes. Intrigued, she enters the space only to turn around and see none other than Alex Harbour from the band, Steel Roses. The same Alex that she and her best friend have been fans of for years. He is, after all, a legend. Even though the band had broken up several years before, Alex had gone on to have a solo career and was still very much in the public eye. He was known for a few things: his rock god status, his battle with addiction and going through women like wildfire.

Alex Harbour thought that Natasha was yet another fan who had gotten past security and was more than willing to give her what they all wanted. When Natasha assured him that that was not what she was there for, Alex then assumes she’s a reporter, only to have Gina walk in to tell him that Natasha is his new PA. After his bawdy actions, Natasha knows she could never work for Alex, even though she had idolized him for years.

However, Gina knows that Natasha is perfect for the job. It takes some doing, but Natasha finally takes the job and moves to Los Angeles (from England) to be Alex Harbour’s PA. When she arrives in Los Angeles, her and Alex’s working relationship is strained, to say the least. He has always gotten his way and won over whomever he wanted to, but he found that Natasha was not just anyone. Natasha finally finds her bearings and becomes friends with Alex’s best friend and stylist, Diego, and his head of security, Shane. As the job progresses, she finally sees that there is more to Alex than just the tabloid headlines and that somewhere along the way, something bad had happened causing him to shut the world out.

Alex knows he’s a lot to deal with and makes it his mission to break down Natasha’s walls, but after a while, it takes him by surprise when he finds himself wanting to do it for the “right” reasons. She’s a no-nonsense person who is very good at her job. She’s also very good at making him see things he thought he never would again………real interest in a woman, but more importantly, real interest in himself.

Wonderlust is a WONDERFULLY written story that draws you in from the beginning. Natasha is such a relatable character with her fiery streak and sense of loyalty. Alex Harbour is your typical ego driven rock start until you get to know him and understand that he has closed in on himself and closed everyone else out. The chemistry between the two of them is utterly palpable and leaves you wanting more. The secondary characters were so well written that I hope they get their own books, even if they’re just novellas. Diego?! He is simply amazing. The world that Wilde has built with Steel Roses is second to none. If you’re a romance fan, you have got to give this one a go. Well done, B.L. Wilde!!!! Very, very well done!

ABOUT THE BOOK:

Natasha has dreamt of going on tour with Steel Roses ever since she was a little girl. She never thought she would be dating the front man when it happened, though.

Now she has been immersed into Alex’s world of sex, drugs and rock ‘n’ roll. Can she keep them both safe with temptation lurking around every corner?

Going on tour is going to test their relationship on levels they never even fathomed, and when Alex’s past comes back to haunt them can their love survive?

The wonderlust might be over, but their love story is only just beginning. One thing is for sure—surrendering your soul to a rockstar never hurt so good.

•••••••••

REVIEW:Wonderment picks up not long after Wonderlust ends. The powers that be have finally convinced Alex Harbour, rock god, to go on a world reunion tour with his former band, Steel Roses. Natasha, Alex’s PA and girlfriend, cannot believe that she is actually going on the tour with Alex and his band. She also knows that it’s going to be hard. They have kept their relationship from the press and from everyone else, except those they were closest to.

As they are getting ready for the tour, he has a meeting with his label, only to find out from Gina that there has been a “girlfriend ban” added to his contract for the entire tour. Of course, Alex is furious. They were going to go public at some point when Natasha was comfortable with it, but that feeling is nothing compared to the fury when he sees who his label has hired to oversee his tour. As Natasha enters the room, she is surprised to see David there. She then finds out that he is the one who’s added the ban to Alex’s contract and tries to talk him out of it. David assures her that that will not happen. He also assures her that he wants her back and he always gets what he wants.

It’s surreal when Natasha meets the other members of Steel Roses. This is a band that she has been a fan of her entire life. However, she soon finds out that the tension Alex had warned her about between him and Matt had not been a lie. Matt literally seethed whenever Alex was in the room but had vowed to make the tour work.

While they travel the world from one venue to the next, things between Alex and Matt seem to get better, which makes Natasha happy……….for a minute. What doesn’t make her happy is that Alex reverts to his old habits and leaves her feeling vulnerable and alone.

The tour continues as Alex’s old demons rear their ugly heads. Not knowing if she can be what he needs her to be, Natasha needs to decide if it’s all worth it. The fame and all of the trappings that comes with it is a lot to deal with, but when Alex finally reveals the reason behind the tension between himself and Matt, Natasha’s heart breaks for him. However, when she realizes what she thought were Matt’s good intentions with Alex and the band were actually not good for anyone but himself, she wonders what else she has been wrong about.

Wonderment is an amazing addition to the Steel Roses series. Just when you think you can’t love the two main characters any more, you find new reasons to root for them. Once again, the chemistry between Alex and Natasha burns bright. Once all of the secrets are out, your heart breaks for everyone involved, but especially for Alex. Having to drag all of the demons around is exhausting, but when he finally opens all of the way up to Natasha? You actually feel the weight lifted yourself. And, when Alex finally takes charge of his life? Man………….. Once again, what an amazing world Wilde has built with this series. This one will take your breath in more ways than one. We once again get to see all of the secondary characters we loved from the get-go and they add beautifully to the story. The final scene before the epilogue though??? YESSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!! I truly have no idea if there is another one in the works for this series, but I sure do hope so. Well done, B.L. Wilde! Very, very well done!!!!!!

It didn’t take Diego long to do my makeup. Alex was pacing back and forth at that point, waiting for me. Patience wasn’t something he was very good at. I’d even thrown him a chocolate bar to pacify him, but it only kept him busy for a few minutes.
“There you go, Cupcake. Don’t let Alex smudge your lipstick straight away. You don’t look like the easy type.” After swatting my butt, Diego pushed me toward Alex.
“Finally,” he teased, circling his arms around me. “You look beautiful, Straight Lace.” All I could do was smile in response as his lips pressed urgently against mine. Diego sighed behind me, but I didn’t really care about my lipstick right then.
“We’re going on your bike?” I gasped as he handed me a helmet. Alex’s Harley was legendary, but Shane had once told me that he only rode it alone.
“Is that a problem? You’re not scared, are you?”
“Are you kidding? I’ve wanted to go on this bike since I was a kid!” My excitement was obvious. Alex let out a loud laugh and shook his head.
“You’re not that much younger than me, Nat. Don’t make me sound so old.” I got onto the bike behind him and hugged him tight. “Whoa. Don’t hold me too tight. I need to breathe,” he joked, looking at me over his shoulder. I was still beaming like a Cheshire cat.
Alex’s bike was fast. I loved the adrenaline rush that I got as we rode. The growl of the engine sent tremors through my body. With my arms around his waist, I held on tight as Alex accelerated. The sudden rush of wind made my hair that was free from the helmet dance frantically behind my back. The world around us was flashing by so fast it was a blur. I couldn’t get enough of this feeling. I’d never felt so free on an open road before.
Alex took us to a secluded restaurant on the outskirts of LA. It was lit up with hundreds of twinkle lights and had ivy climbing the walls of the whitewash building.
“Where did you find this place?” I asked as he entwined his fingers with mine. “It’s really pretty.”
“I found it on my last ride up here. It looked like our kind of place.” I knew he meant no one would interrupt us here, which I was really looking forward to. It wasn’t very easy to find places outside of his mansion that we could be together.
He allowed me to go in first. The restaurant was empty. A single table laid up for two was all I could see. “You booked out the entire restaurant, didn’t you?” Realisation hit me. His actions always took my breath away.
“I wanted to apologise for my outburst earlier. The way I treated you in front of my personal trainer was wrong of me.”
“You should have brought him instead. He was the one you shouted at.” Truthfully, his outburst had me more concerned than offended.
“I don’t think of you as a possession. If you thought…”
“Alex, I know.” Touching the side of his face, I tried to make him understand. “You didn’t have to do all of this to prove it to me.” I waved my arms around at his grand gesture.
“It’s just…I’ve been so stressed these last few weeks. I don’t want to mess this up. You mean too much to me. You know that, right?”
“You need to stop worrying about that. I’m not going anywhere. You couldn’t get rid of me even if you paid me to leave. Like it or not, you’re stuck with me.” I nudged him playfully with my shoulder so he knew I was teasing.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 25, 2020

She needs a total life reboot… even if it means marrying a stranger

Taya Maverick has just volunteered to marry a random Navy SEAL as part of the military’s new spouse-matching program. What other choice does she have? Her former best friend killed her father and torched her house. Taya’s determined to start over, but to be safe she has to disappear. The program is the perfect opportunity, complete with refuge and a built-in bodyguard. Her Navy SEAL husband can keep her safe, right?

After one spectacularly disastrous marriage, Jim Stephens nixes round two. But his commanding officer never accepts no for an order. While an injury may have sidelined him temporarily, Jim still needs to salvage his career after a mistake in combat puts him in leadership’s cross-hairs. Being the first in the pilot program guarantees him his rank and eventual active duty clearance…as long as he can last the trial year.

The I dos are barely uttered before Jim and Taya realize they’ve each miscalculated. Their sizzling chemistry might lead to bed, but neither is prepared to open their heart. And then Taya’s past comes knocking…

•••••••

REVIEW: Issued begins with Jim Stephens temporarily sidelined due to an injury while deployed. He’s worried that they sideline him permanently. While meeting with his commanding officer, he is told about a newly rolled out spouse-matching program. When he is told he will be the first to participate in the program, he is stunned. He also learns that the program will guarantee his being cleared for active duty. Knowing he has no choice, Jim accepts. After all, he only has to withstand this kind of torture for a year. Surely, he can last that long?

Taya Maverick had applied for the new spouse-matching program a while back and was surprised to get the call that she had been matched up with a Navy SEAL. The timing couldn’t have been better. Her father had been murdered and her house burned down……all by her former best friend and she knew she wasn’t safe staying where she was. Surely, she would be safe with a SEAL?

Jim is not happy about the arrangement but tells himself that all he has to do is survive it for a year. When Taya arrives, she is nervous, but holds her head up and knocks on the door. Once inside, introductions are made, and a quick ceremony is performed. Once the ceremony is over, Jim shows her around the house and shows her to her room. Her room looks comfortable, except for the fact that she is not into pink and frilly. Jim then leaves, which leaves her wondering just what in the world she was thinking. He didn’t seem any happier about things than she did.

As the two of them get to know each other, one thing is for sure: they have chemistry. Both try to deny their mutual attraction for reasons unknown to the other. However, just when things start to work between them, danger arrives in the form of Taya’s past.

Issued is the first I’ve read by Wynters. Even though the premise is a bit over the top, it is nicely written story. Taya and Jim have a hard time opening up to each other, but once they do, the chemistry is palpable. The characters are well written and engaging. The secondary characters are well written as well, leaving you wanting their stories. Taya’s backstory and the reason she’s running is a hard one. However, Jim’s backstory, once revealed in its entirety, endears him to the reader. Heartbreaking is the only way to describe it. Issued is ultimately a story of building trust and opening one’s self up to possibilities. Well done, Paris Wynters!

In less than a minute, I’ll be meeting James A. Stephens, the man who’s assigned to be my husband, for the first time. A groan rumbles past my lips, my breath fogging the shield in front of my eyes. I clutch my left fist and downshift to third gear, and the loud whoosh of the wind against the bike drops a little in volume. The GPS alerts me through my earbuds that his house is three hundred feet away. What the hell am I thinking marrying a perfect stranger?
Oh, yeah. I’m homeless. My father was murdered. And the people responsible are walking free because there wasn’t enough evidence to convict the bastards. So, what better way for a fresh start on life than to volunteer to be assigned as a spouse to a member of the military? Didn’t sound so bad after everything I’d lost. Everything that was taken from me.
My heart hammers against my rib cage as my right thumb, ring finger and pinky reduce the throttle on my bike, two of my fingers always on the front brake. Some days, I wish I had a sibling, someone to grieve with over the loss of my father. After five months, the painful ache hurts as much as the day they lowered my dad’s coffin into the ground. I sigh and dip my shoulder as I lean into the unfamiliar turn of this street.
Virginia Beach, with its salty ocean air and the constant lull of crashing waves, is a fresh start. Complete with a roof over my head, medical benefits, and a built-in bodyguard. Not that I can’t protect myself, but when the person who killed the man I loved most is my former best friend that I’ve known since childhood, I’m at a loss. Marco knows me too well. And disappearing is the only way I can truly be safe.
When I overheard one of my former search and rescue teammates talking about the program at last year’s conference, I choked on my water laughing. An arranged marriage? Not my idea of happily ever after. But the sly veteran quirked his eyebrow in my direction and threw a five-hundred-dollar dare out, so I picked up my phone and made a quick buck. What were the chances my shoddy application would be picked?
I snort. I should’ve known better than to trust fate. But I had to go through the screening process. God only knows what the repercussions would’ve been if the military found out I wasn’t serious when I filled out the application. But since finding a match could’ve taken a while, I did have the option later to withdraw my application.
Except my circumstances changed in a terrible way. This new program is now about to become my saving grace . . . with a man whose name and address are on the piece of paper in my pocket. But who in their right mind signs up to be “issued” a husband, even with a rigorous screening process? At least I won’t have to look over my shoulder here. Or be reminded of everything that I lost at every corner.
My heart twists sharply at the memory of all that’s vanished forever, before kicking up to a rhythm of stampeding wild horses the closer I get to the two-story, cobalt-blue Colonial house where my future husband and the officiant are waiting. Holy hell, I’m going to be someone’s wife by the end of the day.
I pull up to the curb, kill the engine and push out the kickstand. Dismounting, I take a moment to look around while my ears adjust to the quiet after hours on the road. The landscaping is immaculate. The Ford F-250 looks brand new, or at least it’s washed and shined to reflect even the dimly lit morning. The rocks lining the walkway to the front door are perfectly spaced, like someone had laid them in rows by hand.
Everything is just . . . too perfect.
I close my eyes and mutter a prayer this man isn’t one of those people who has to line up his cereal boxes in size order. Or worse—alphabetically. Because I’m anything but organized. And I can’t cook for shit.!

TRC: Hi Paris and welcome to The Reading Café. Congratulations on the release of ISSUED.

We would like to start with some background information. Would you please tell us something about yourself?

Follow Paris: Website/Twitter/Facebook/Goodreads/

Paris: Well, I outside of being a writer I am also a Search and Rescue K-9 handler.

TRC: Who or what influenced your career in writing?

Paris: Books actually influenced my career in writing. Believe it or not, my favorite authors growing up were Stephen King and Robin Cook. Actually, Robin Cook inspired my interest in science and is the reason why I majored pre-med in college.

TRC: What challenges or difficulties did you encounter writing and publishing this story?

Paris: One of the biggest challenges I faced is that military stories aren’t necessarily the “in” thing with a majority of publishers focusing on Romcom. I was fortunate that the team over at Tule Publishing loved the story and were happy to take it on.

TRC: Would you please tell us something about the premise of ISSUED?

Paris: So, having a family in the military and friends you always hear stories of divorce rates and shotgun weddings, and even that old saying “if we wanted you to have a wife we would have issued you one.” Well, I thought that was an interesting concept and hence ISSUED was born.

TRC: How many books do you have planned for the NAVY SEALS OF LITTLE CREEK series?

Paris: Currently three. Book 2 will be releasing in September.

TRC: What kind of research/plotting did you do, and how long did you spend researching /plotting before beginning ISSUED?

Paris: I spent a fair amount of time interviewing friends and family to make sure some of the more military aspects of the story were correct. I did some research on home selling websites to find the perfect home for my characters. That was a lot of fun. Also, I researched a Whiskey bar down in Virginia Beach that I modeled Shaken & Stirred off of.

TRC: How did your experiences as a certified search and rescue technician contribute to the story line?

Paris: It’s worked into the story as something the heroine is involved in. She isn’t a K-9 handler like myself but more of a general technician. This is where we all start so it was a nice way to introduce a character because most of the time we go out on calls as a ground pounder rather than using our more specialized skill set.

TRC: Do you believe the cover image plays a deciding factor for many readers in the process of selecting a book or new series to read?

Paris: Of course. And the reason I say that is because of my own purchasing habits. A good cover will catch my attention and make me read the blurb or research the book further to see if it’s something I want to buy.

TRC: When writing a story line, do the characters direct the writing or do you direct the characters?

Paris: It’s a little of both. There are beats I want to hit and plot points I need to get to, but how the characters get there will be determined by them. Most of the time I really flesh out my characters first so I know them because I like to be intentional in how they are going to react to a situation. There’s nothing worse for me as a reader to have someone’s mind and emotions not match their physical reactions. I like my characters to be consistent and know why they are doing and feeling what they are doing and feeling.

TRC: The mark of a good writer is to pull the reader into the storyline so that they experience the emotions along with the characters. What do you believe a writer must do to make this happen? Where do you believe writers fail in this endeavor?

Paris: They have to know their characters and they have to do things intentionally. You have to go three levels deep into why a character acts the way they do. For example, anger can stem from fear and fear can stem from a core wound of abandonment. And then that fear has to match who the character is. And it has to be consistent throughout. Where I feel writers fail are in the consistency, especially in romance. New authors really do a great job at conveying nonverbal communication, but the longer a romance author seems to write the more they seem to stop paying attention to this. Ninety-three percent of the way we communicate is non-verbally. Our characters should be doing this as well. And not the constant smile, raised eyebrow, narrowed eyes. But give more or three lumped together. Thriller writers are great at this. And it really helps connect to characters.

TRC: Do you listen to music while writing? If so, does the style of music influence the storyline direction? Characters?

Paris: I don’t listen to music while I write. I actually listen to it while I drive or while I’m visualizing a scene or a character. But when I write or read, I prefer silence. As far as what I listen to…I listen to everything. So Tech9, Eminem, NF, Lady Gaga, and Yusef Alev all played a part in some aspect of ISSUED.

TRC: What do you believe is the biggest misconception people have about authors?

Paris: That it’s easy and that we make a lot of money. Writing and editing is very hard, and it’s very hard emotionally. Plus, we are always writing on our own so it can be very lonely. Most authors also have full time jobs or at least another job so balancing deadlines and writing is another challenge we have to face.

TRC: What is something that few, if anyone, know about you?

Paris: I was a single mom for 13 years after leaving an abusive situation. It was a very difficult time as I was always trying to make ends meet, slept on the floor with just a pillow and blanket for twelve of those years, and even had to separate from the dog I owned at the time. I was fortunate to have had friends who helped me escape, and one who took my dog to make sure she was safe. Now I am blessed with an amazing husband and an eighteen-year-old who is well adjusted and has even been certified as a Search and Rescue technician himself.

TRC: Who is your favorite author (living or dead)?

Paris: Robin Cook

TRC: On what are you currently working?

Paris: I am simultaneously working on Book 3 and a holiday Mongolian romance

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 23, 2020

Hazel Noble has survived horrors she wouldn’t inflict on her worst enemy. Since then, she’s healed, found herself, and connected with a group of women she’s proud to call her friends. However, when make a pact to start looking for love, Hazel finds herself not only up first, but also forced to face a past she thought she’d escaped.

Cross Brady has no need for a relationship. As the oldest of five, he’s always been the one his family can rely on. Now, all he want is to work in peace and live his life. His priorities shift dramatically, though, when Cross finds himself in Hazel’s path.

Though the two initially fight their connection, they soon learn that it’s safer to fall for each other than keep running from what’s holding them back – not to mention, who wants them dead.

•••••••

REVIEW:Forever Only Once begins with Hazel Noble on her way to meet up with her three dearest friends. Once there, they discuss the “pact” they’ve made: the group will find each other the perfect date, one at a time. Hazel draws the short straw and is the first to be set up on a blind date. Though she agreed to the pact, she doesn’t want to go first….if at all.

Cross Brady loves what he does. He and his business partner have been partners for years, but something is off. When his partner comes in and asks him to meet one of his clients for him, Cross wants to say no, but knows he needs to do it for the business. He still doesn’t like it……

Cross heads to the restaurant to meet up with the new client and sees a very attractive lady sitting by herself and approaches her. It only takes a few moments for them to realize neither is whom they were meeting due to unforeseen circumstances. As they enjoy each other’s company and talk over dinner, neither can help but wonder if the other just might be worth seeing again. Hazel has vowed to put her past behind her and is intrigued by Cross, just as he is with her.

As they begin to build a relationship, neither are ready to jump head-first. The two of them go slow and both realize the chemistry between them is undeniable. However, as things heat up between Cross and his business partner and discoveries are made, a threat from Hazel’s past reemerges that jeopardizes everything.

Forever Only Once is an amazing story and I love the premise of the series. Four women who are single, for one reason or another, decide to help each other find happiness. Hazel’s backstory is one of nightmares and control. I love the way she broke free and made a new life for herself and reconnected with old friends. Cross was great as well. He is loyal and honorable. I loved the chemistry between the two of them. The secondary characters are well written and definitely leave you wanting more of their stories. If you like your romance with a little intrigue and steam that keeps you turning the pages, this one is definitely for you. Well done, Carrie Ann Ryan!! Very well done!

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 2020

DINAH

When my husband died, I never thought I would find love again.

I definitely didn’t think I would find it in the arms of my younger best friend. Why would the hunky hockey player want anything to do with me? I’m a stressed out writer with a lot of baggage. Any other man would say, “HARD PASS!”

But Noah was the best man I’ve ever known, and if it wasn’t for him, I might not be alive.

But am I ready to put my heart on the line again?

NOAH

I’ve pined for my best friend for so long, that my teammates issued an ultimatum.

“Make your move now or one of us will ask her out.”

They are just trying to push me, besides none of those jerks would ever be good enough for her. Makes me wonder if I even stand a chance.

Besides, what would a smart woman like her want with a dumb jock like me?

••••••••

REVIEW:Take the Shot begins with Dinah in her apartment on a Friday night attempting to finish a draft of her second romance novel. From the sounds next door, her best friends, Noah and T.J., are having another party, which is confirmed when Noah texts her and invites her over. Knowing she’s at a dead end for the night with her writing, she agrees and heads to the party.

Once Dinah walks next door, she finds the party in full swing. She knows most in attendance as they have become her circle of friends too. Noah and T.J. are hockey players and a lot of their fellow teammates are there as well. Dinah considers herself lucky to have these people as her friends, especially Noah. She lost her husband a couple of years before to a terrible car accident. Immediately after, she discovered she was pregnant, only to have a miscarriage that almost killed her. Had Noah not found her passed out in the stairwell of their building, she would not have survived. He took her to the E.R. and stayed with her the whole time. Neither had ever breathed a word to anyone else about what had happened. Dinah had never even told her family.

Noah was always glad to see Dinah. Unknown to anyone else, or, so he thought, he had been in love with Dinah for a long time but has always done it from afar. Things were changing though……his friends knew he was in love with her and they told him to make his move, or get out of their way. Needless to say, that didn’t go over well.

As Noah starts to make his move, Dinah finds herself surprised. After all, why would a younger man want to be with her? The two of them begin to navigate a relationship once he convinces her that he is serious. However, through a series of events, Dinah finds herself scared and does the only thing she can think of to protect herself….run. Both are miserable without the other and have to decide if, indeed, they will take the shot.

Take the Shot is a nicely written story by Flynn. Both of the main characters were pretty well written. Dinah is strong, smart and independent. Noah is an old soul, a gentleman and very protective. The chemistry between the two of them, however, was almost tentative. I liked them together, but something was just a little disjointed for me. The secondary characters leave you wanting more of their story, which is always a plus. All, in all, this was a good start for the Philadelphia Bulldogs series and I can’t wait to read the next one in the series. Well done, Danica Flynn!
