Best friends don’t lie.
Best friends don’t ditch you for a guy.
Best friends don’t post your deepest, darkest secrets online.

Bailey’s falling head-over-high-heels for Ryder West, a mysterious gamer she met online. A guy she’s never met in person. Her best friend, Meg, doesn’t trust smooth-talking Ryder. He’s just a picture-less profile.

When Bailey starts blowing Meg off to spend more virtual quality time with her new crush, Meg decides it’s time to prove Ryder’s a phony.

But one stupid little secret posted online turns into a friendship-destroying feud to answer the question:

Who is Ryder West?

****************************

Review:

Meg has had a hard life. Her father died when she was small, leaving her and her mother on their own and struggling. Her mom worked two jobs and went to the local community college at night, trying to make a better life for her and her daughter. Meg was left on her own a lot, but her friends kept an eye on her…..her best friend Bailey and her friend Chase. Meg was a no nonsense kind of girl. She had a plan and had her future all mapped out. She did extremely well in school and was a gifted artist. She just wished that her bff, Bailey, was as channeled.

Bailey loved her video games. So when she met a guy online, (after a big breakup with her current boyfriend), whom was just as interested in her as he was video games, she was ecstatic. Until she told Meg about Ryder West. Meg immediately went into “mother hen” mode. After all, Ryder could be a forty-two year old perv. Bailey wishes that just for once, Meg could be happy for her and not be so uptight.

Chase has been in love with Meg for years. Bailey has tried to get Meg to loosen up and give Chase a shot, but Meg is too afraid of ending up like her mother and won’t let anyone stand in her way of attaining her goal of finishing high school, then college and securing her place in the world. She wasn’t even willing to entertain the idea, until that one kiss that had her thinking………..what if? And, when Bailey decides to “help things along”, none of our trio had any idea the things that would be set in motion. Will Meg finally give in and let Chase in? Will Bailey finally get to meet Ryder in person? And, will Meg and Bailey survive the tumultuous ups and downs of being bff’s? You’ll have to read to find out.

TMI is an intriguing young adult novel that didn’t really grab me at first. Everything seemed typical, mundane and ordinary. Then, bam! I got pulled in and couldn’t turn the pages of the last half of the book fast enough. TMI is full of teenaged angst, as are most YA novels. What sets this one apart from the others, in my humble opinion, is that you can see these things happening in the real world. There are life lessons in this book. You can see how social media can have such an adverse affect on an unsuspecting person when one post is made and then spreads like wildfire. And, the dangers of meeting someone online whom you nothing about? I don’t even need to elaborate on that. But, what grabbed me the most, and not always in a positive way, was the viciousness of one of the girls. Having two daughters myself, I’ve always told them no one is more vicious than a teenaged girl who thinks someone has wronged her. To say I was mortified by what played out would be like saying the Titanic hit an ice cube. If I could have reached through and slapped the crap out of the girl, I would have. Well, actually, I would have crawled through and beaten the hell out of her, but since that wasn’t a viable option, I sat here with my mouth gaped open in disbelief. TMI is ultimately about building trust and what happens when that one person lets you down and you have to decide whether it’s worth trying to rebuild. This book should be recommended reading for teenaged girls everywhere, as it shows some shining examples of what “to” do and what “not” to do.

Writing for Balance by Patty Blount

I’ve been writing for what seems like my entire life. But I didn’t get serious about it sometime over the last ten years. Prior to this, writing was something I did when I needed to vent, to unload. It’s cathartic. I’d wanted to write a novel for years. It was a dream that lived in the back of my brain, but every time I sat down to do so, I got bored and abandoned project after project midway through. It felt beyond my capabilities. Like I’d bitten off more than I could possibly chew.

So I gave up.

writing 1But I never stopped writing. Articles, poems, fan fiction, letters to editors – I begged for things to write. Eventually, I landed a job as a technical writer for a software company – a job I still hold today. This was the perfect career for me – I got to apply my various computer degrees with something I loved – writing.

And I was good at it! But I still wanted more. I wanted to conquer fiction writing, which still felt like scaling Mount Everest. Finally, my lightbulb moment came when my son’s teacher sent home a poor progress report and suggested my son read more to improve. He insisted there are no good books worth reading. I asked him what he wanted to read and he gave me a list. We made a deal; he’d read it if I wrote it.

So I did.

I approached this deal the way I approached any project at work. I broke up into smaller tasks and figured out how much I could achieve each day. The books I write are between 70,000 and 90,000 words. I figured I could write about 1,000 words a day, every day, and at that rate, could have my son’s book written by Christmas that year.

I wrote it and he read it, as agreed. The book kind of sucked, but it taught me some valuable lessons. First, I really can do this! I can write a book! That alone was a huge achievement. Second, it taught me the value of setting small goals. A thousand words a day is not a tremendous burden – it’s about three pages of output. Third, that writing goal is sufficient for me to achieve when I get home from work or during my lunch break, depending on my mood. I still follow this plan today. Some days, if I’m really motivated, I will write several thousand words. Other days, I’m happy with a single paragraph.

But I write, every day, no matter how I feel.

balancesIt’s not easy, but I’ve learned the things that matter most rarely are. For example, after I signed my two-book deal with Sourcebooks, I learned my mother’s cancer had returned and this time, it was terminal. My deadline for TMI was just a few weeks after she passed away. Writing during this time is what kept me from spiraling out of myself. Relatives were appalled that I wrote while she was in hospice but the truth is, the story was the only thing I had control of. I needed that control.

Do things slide? Yes. I don’t watch TV at night anymore except for a few favorite programs. When I’m on a tight deadline, my kids and my husband take turns with the laundry and cooking. And some nights, I may be up later than I’d like.

But when it’s something you love doing, it’s not a sacrifice.

Writing is my balance.

About the Author

Patty BlountPatty spends her days writing facts and her nights writing contemporary romantic fiction. A coworker once said if Patty were a super-villain, she’d be called The Quibbler. Her costume would be covered in exclamation points. Fueled by a serious chocolate obsession, a love of bad science-fiction movies, and a weird attraction to exclamation points, Patty looks for ways to mix business with pleasure, mining her day job for ideas to use in her fiction.

Though she’s passionate about happily-ever-afters, her first story wasn’t a romance at all. Penalty Killer, a whodunit, was written on a dare from her oldest son. Burn

Book 3 in the Breathless Trilogy

About the book: Release Date August 6, 2013

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

Ash, Jace, and Gabe: three of the wealthiest, most powerful men in the country. They’re accustomed to getting anything they want. Anything at all. For Ash, it’s the woman who changes everything he’s ever known about dominance and desire…

When it comes to sex, Ash McIntyre has always explored his wilder side—extreme and uncompromising. He demands control. And he prefers women who want it like that. Even the women he’s shared with his best friend, Jace.

But Jace is involved with a woman he has no intention of sharing. And now even Gabe has settled into a relationship with a woman who gives him everything he needs, leaving Ash feeling restless and unfulfilled.

Then Ash meets Josie, who seems immune to his charms and his wealth. Intrigued, he begins a relentless pursuit, determined she won’t be the one who got away. He never imagined the one woman to tell him no would be the only woman who’d ever drive him to the edge of desire.

Review:

Ash has given his best friends and business partners, Jace and Gabe hell over falling in love and settling down. After all, their motto for years has been play hard and live free. And he had no plans in giving up on their mantra. Oh, but fate has different plans for Ash….

Burn begins with a chance, albeit brief, encounter between Ash and Josie in the park. Josie is there sketching and Ash just needed a breath of fresh air. And, what a breath he got. After their initial encounter, Ash becomes obsessed with finding out all that he can about Josie and the man she belongs to. Because when Ash wants something, he stops at nothing to get it.

Josie is a bit of a free spirit. She is an artist and jewelry designer and doesn’t do the regular nine to five. She has broken it off with her boyfriend and has fallen on hard times. Her art isn’t selling and she has to make her rent. Little did she know that her trip to the pawn shop would be life-changing. Once she heads back to the pawn shop to buy back her mother’s jewelry, she discovers that it has been purchased by someone and there is no way to get it back. Until she leaves the shop and runs into Ash, who immediately tells her he’ll give her back her jewelry……..for a price. Dinner. She is apprehensive, but will do anything to get the only thing of her mother’s she has left, and to get to know a bit more about the man before her.

Once they meet for dinner, Ash lays it on the line. He wants her to be his in every way. Josie finds his offer intriguing and knows that she will be his, but asks for a few days to wrap her head around the idea. They part ways, with her telling him she’ll be in touch in a couple of days with her decision. However, when Ash doesn’t hear from her in several days, he sets out to find her. And, what he finds leaves him cold. Seems Josie’s ex wasn’t happy about her dumping him and he physically attacked her. Ash packs her up immediately and takes her to his apartment, where he takes care of her and doesn’t rush her into anything. He gives her that one night, because the next? She will be his.

They embark on their relationship and they are both happier than they could have ever imagined. They fall into a routine that suits them both. Josie’s art is selling and she feels that she can take care of herself, if need be. Even though Ash would never allow it, she has a sense of independence and starts to fall in love with him, and he with her. She’s introduced to his friends, Gabe & Mia, and Jace & Bethany, and loves how close they all are. She can finally imagine a long term relationship with Ash, until she discovers what she thinks is a betrayal that sends her reeling. And, when she confronts Ash and goes back to her old apartment, they are both devastated. Only they had no idea of the events that would play out. An old threat returns and the actions taken against Josie not only threaten her being with Ash, but threaten her very life…..

I liked the first book in this trilogy, Rush. I loved the second book, Fever. I absolutely ADORED Burn! I knew that Ash’s would be my favorite. He is estranged from his family and had made his own way and his own fortune. Something that his family did not like. He was always the laid back, easy going one of the trio. But, I just knew that there was more beneath the surface. God, I love it when I’m right!! Even though he and Josie’s relationship developed quickly, it worked. I loved them together. The “old threat” that returned?? I DID NOT SEE THAT ONE COMING!! And, it affected them all, in one way or another. Of course they closed ranks and took care of business. Some of the best scenes in all three books are the girls’ nights out. Seriously!! The books are worth reading, if only for those scenes alone! They are hysterical and so much fun to read. I have my fingers crossed that Maya Banks will at least do a novella that lets us check in on this trio and their wives to see how things are going. The worst part of this being the third book of the trilogy? It’s over…………. Well done, Maya Banks. Very well done.

Lords of the Underworld – Book 10

About the book: Released July 30, 2013

Having endured weeks of torture in the bowels of hell, Kane wants nothing to do with his beautiful rescuer, Josephina Aisling. The half-Fae female threatens to awaken the demon of Disaster inside him—a beast he’s determined to kill, no matter the price.

Josephina is hunted by a brutal enemy—her royal family—and Kane is her only source of protection. He’s also the only male to ever set her aflame, and even he succumbs to the heat. But as they navigate the treacherous world of the Fae, they are forced to make a choice: live apart…or die together.

Review:

I’m not quite sure where to begin with this review. To say I’ve been looking forward to Kane’s book would be a gross understatement. He’s been trapped in hell, literally, for quite a while. He endured horrible torture and was rescued, not by the Lords, but a half-human, half-Fae woman. Okay, she does have the power to absorb others’ powers, which makes her very powerful, if only for a brief time. And once she gets him out of hell, a couple of the Lords do show up and take him back to the fortress, only to have Kane obsess over the petite Josephina. His demon, Disaster, rebels when Kane thinks of Josephina as his, but that doesn’t quell his overwhelming feelings of finding her. Once he makes his decision (which is heartbreaking) to leave and find her, William decides to accompany him to aid in his quest.

There are a couple of factions in play. There is a Phoenix hunting Josephina (Tinker Bell or Tink as Kane has nicknamed her) and her Fae family. She has escaped the Fae realm with her own quest…..to die. And, Kane had promised to kill her when she rescued him in hell, but Kane didn’t count on developing feelings for her. Seems she is the one who has to take the punishment that her father, the king of the Fae, doles out to his other, “legitimate”, daughter when said daughter commits a punishable offense.

Once Kane, and William, find Tink and enter into the Fae realm, Kane discovers just how horrid she is treated there. The queen despises her due to the fact that she is the daughter of one of the king’s mistresses, who died a long time ago. Instead of having a life of luxury like her other siblings, Tink is a servant to the royal family and is shunned at every turn. That does not sit well with Kane. The Lords are revered in the Fae realm and Kane is treated like royalty. Once the king decides that Kane will marry Tink’s half sister, Kane manipulates the situation so that no more harm will come to Josephina and has her, basically, turned over to his care. Kane, at first, has every intention in marrying the king’s daughter, but soon decides that that will never happen. His growing feelings for Tink, and hers for him, have him scrambling for some sort of resolution. And, what a resolution it is.

I liked Darkest Craving. The rub with that? I usually LOVE Showalter’s books. I was so so happy that we got to see a lot of the other Lords and their mates in this book. And, William. He plays a big part in Kane’s story, as do his “kids”, Red, Black, Green and White. Loved the banter between he and Kane.

However, the banter between Kane and Josephina was almost juvenile. I don’t quite know how to describe it. It was just…..lacking. It did get better towards the end of the book, but I was so worn out by then, I was just ready for it to be over. Where I normally read a LOTU book in a night or two, it took me several to get through this one. There are subplots going on as well. Torin, keeper of Disease, and Cameo, keeper of Misery, have things going on throughout this book, and while I know that she did it to build up to her next book, it fell short for me. Literally left me scratching my head wondering what in the hell was going on. Showalter’s writing style has changed over the past year. Whereas I don’t read these books for the sex, the fact that they don’t consummate their relationship until page 316 didn’t work for me. You get used to an author’s writing and storytelling style, and when they veer off from that, it is a letdown. At least for me it is. Don’t get me wrong, there were some great scenes in this book and we get to see what’s going on with the others as well, which is always a plus in my book. But I just expected more from Kane after having been trapped in hell for so long.

All in all, it was a good book, but not great for me. It is a necessary read in the continuation of the storyline due to things that happen that can be a game changer for the others whom yet to have their story told. Showalter has a huge fan base, and I know that as some of you read this review, you’ll totally disagree with me. That’s the beauty of reviews, in my humble opinion. We all read the same thing and come away with something different. Unfortunately, I came away feeling slighted.

A Time of Dying

Araneae Nation – Book 3
Release Date: July 30, 2013

Once the future Segestriidae maven, Kaidi lived a privileged life. Now she spends her nights haunting cities ravaged by the plague. Spade in hand, she stalks rows of freshly dug graves for corpses…and then she takes their heads.

Her new life is caked in blood and spattered with gore, but it’s hers. At least until-to her fury-she’s caught napping.

A plague survivor by the skin of his teeth, Murdoch risks his neck to solve the mysteries left in its wake. Bodies have gone missing. Guards have left their posts and never returned home.

When he rouses a female dozing among the dead, he’s unprepared for the violence of her response. Or his. Beneath the grime, she’s lovely. Too bad the blood under her fingernails belongs to his clansmen.

He has no choice but to follow this alluring creature deeper into her world of winged beasts and flesh-eating monsters. She holds the knowledge he craves, but the price is high-and they may both pay for it with their lives.

Warning: This book contains one heroine in desperate need of a bath and one hero willing to wash away her sins. Expect threats, swears and general cursing. Love is a slippery slope, and these two are sliding.

Review:

A Time of Dying begins shortly after A Feast of Souls ends. The plague is still ravaging the countryside and everyone is wary of newcomers. And, the newcomer that Murdoch encounters among his clan’s dead is no exception. She is taken into custody by Murdoch and taken back to Cathis to be judged for her crimes: desecrating the Cathis clan’s dead, or so it seems. Once the Cathis Maven, Mana, and her husband, Vaugn, the Cathis Paladin, figure out that Haidi was to be the Maven of a neighboring clan, they send for the Paladin in hopes of striking some kind of alliance with their clan. After all, he’ll be glad to get his future wife back, right?? The problem is that Haidi does not want to return. There are things happening that are horrendous, and once Murdoch starts to trust in Haidi, which she does not make easy for him, he is determined to keep her safe and away from what has frightened her so much. To add to the complications, Murdoch wants her for himself. Murdoch and Haidi are drawn to each other, but how can they be together, when, after all, she is betrothed to the Paladin of another clan? Oh, you’ll just have to read to find out.

This is, without a doubt, my favorite book of the series so far! The action starts in the first sentence and doesn’t stop. I don’t know how Edwards comes up with the creatures that she writes about, but I hope she continues for a long, long time. I always feel that maybe I should be appalled by some of the characters “nature”, but it’s so well written, that you absolutely fall in love with them. The winged creatures that are preying on the various clans are some of the best I’ve read about in years. Totally original and once that part of the story line starts rolling, you can’t turn the pages fast enough. Oh, and it makes your heart pound!! I became so engrossed in the story that I could NOT put this book down. There is humor, loyalty, a little intrigue, action and a sweet romance. I always feel that my reviews do not do this series justice. I’m sure I’ve said it before, but if you are wanting a diversion from the usual paranormal series that you read, this is the one! Her originality grabs you and doesn’t let go.

The Midnight Breed Companion

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk/ Barnes and Noble / KOBO / The Book Depository

About the book: Release Date June 6, 2013

Part human, part otherworldly, the Breed has lived among humankind in secret for thousands of years . . . and now fans of the popular, best-selling Midnight Breed Series can delve deeper than ever before into this hidden, seductive race of vampires and the dark, thrilling universe they inhabit.

A book that’s been years in the making, the Midnight Breed Series Companion includes insider info on all of the novels, author notes on the creation of the story world and how the eleven-book (and counting!) series has evolved since its beginning as a contracted trilogy, a complete character guide, series trivia, questions from readers and more.

This special series companion also includes “A Touch of Midnight”–an all-new, never-before-published, original novella featuring Gideon and Savannah, which finally reveals the story of how this reader favorite couple met and fell in love, and answers many questions that fans have been curious about since the series began!

•••••••••••••••••••

Review of ATouch of Midnight (Novella):

A Touch of Midnight takes place in 1974 and begins with Savannah and her friend Rachel doing some extracurricular work for one of their professors at Boston University. Savannah is taken a little aback when Rachel is attracted to the professor and ultimately ends up going out with him. Oh well………. But, when Savannah shows up on campus for class the next day and sees the police, she knows in her heart something has happened to her friend Rachel. Of course, we know that Savannah is a Breedmate. All Breedmates have a special gift. Seems Savannah’s is the ability to touch an object and see it’s past. So, when she touches an object from the crime scene, she sees that Rachel and Professor Keaton were attacked by something that wasn’t quite human and has no idea how profoundly her life is going to change. Factor in the huge and hunky blonde man with the British accent, and she’s in for the ride of her life.

Having been a fan of Lara Adrian’s for a long time now, I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that she has finally told us Gideon and Savannah’s story. Gideon is The Order’s IT Guru and doesn’t go out into the field with the other members of The Order, in search of rogues preying on humans………..And, now we know why! Gideon has been a fan favorite for years and folks (and me) have been clamoring for more on how he and Savannah came to be mates, and, oh what a story it is. It had just the right amount of background to fulfill any fan’s quest for more things Gideon.

I do feel the need to say that the Companion Guide was very well written and very easy to follow. I actually found out a thing or two that I’d either missed, or forgotten. A must have for any Midnight Breed fan. Very well done Lara Adrian, very well done!!!!

Kiss Across TimeKiss Across Time – Book 1
by Tracy Cooper-Posey
Release Date: April 2013

About the book:

Amazon.com / Amazon.ca / Amazon.uk

A single kiss can change more than one life…or two.

Taylor Yates is fired for insisting the 5th Century Arthurian poet, Inigo Domhnall, existed. When she hears Domhnall‘s lyrics in a death metal song, she engineers a meeting with lead singer, Brody Gallagher. An unintended kiss sends them spinning back to the poet‘s time, when Saxons were pillaging King Arthur‘s Britain.

Brody‘s all for kissing her again. More, he wants her to kiss his friend and lover, Veris, to see what will happen. When Veris‘ kiss sends them back to the time of the Vikings neither man is willing to let Taylor simply walk out of their lives.

But Brody and Veris are more than lovers and sexual playmates, as Taylor learns when they investigate the kisses that send them across time. The secrets they share have the power to completely alter her life.

••••••••••••••••

Review:  Kiss Across Time begins with Taylor Yates losing her job at the university where she was up for tenure. Seems her obsession with proving the existence of poet Inigo Domhnal has made her a laughing stock and the university wants to distance themselves from her and all mention of the illusive Domhnal. But, as she arrives at her apartment, she hears the poet’s lyrics, of all places, in a death metal song. She enlists the help of her neighbor in order to attend the concert. A quick kiss from the lead singer, Brody Gallagher, is not only hot, but changes her life forever. Seems the kiss caused a time jump, for not only her, but Brody as well. She is ushered backstage after the concert, where she encounters Veris, Brody’s lover. Once he kisses her, another time jump occurs, and Brody and Veris know that Taylor is theirs. Now, to convince Taylor…….

Taylor soon discovers that Brody and Veris are centuries old vampires and that for some reason they time jump when they are intimate with each other. When they jump, it is always back to a time in either Brody or Veris’ past, or a time when they were both present. Brody and Veris have claimed Taylor as their own and have to present her to their queen, and are nervous as to how the meeting will go. Once they meet the queen, they discover that if anything changes when they travel back in time, it can alter their future. Brody and Veris know that the queen is not keen on them keeping her, but the queen also knows that they’ve marked her and she decides to see how it plays out. Because she knows they’ve decided that nothing, or no one, will take Taylor from them.

Kiss Across Time is a relatively short story. You find out their some of their history as the story progresses. I was a little worried that there was no explanation as to why things were happening as they were, but Cooper-Posey does a wonderful job of revealing their histories as the story moves along. Veris and Brody have been together for hundreds of years and easily fit Taylor into their lives. Maybe, a little too easy. But, they embark on a sensuous relationship, and it works. Yes, they are all three in the relationship with each other…..All for one and one for all!!

The Kiss Across Time Series – Book 2
Release Date: March 2013

About the book:

To save them all they must win back one reluctant heart…again.

Taylor Yates never dreamed growing up she would end up happily living with two drop-dead sexy vampires and time-hopping through their thousand years of personal history. Her life is complete…or is it?

When she finds herself at the siege of Jerusalem during the first crusade, Veris doesn’t know her at all and doesn’t want to. Worst of all, he and Brody are total strangers, and Taylor drives a wedge in deep between them by trying to seduce Veris at their first meeting–not something a lady of the day does if she wants to keep her head.

Taylor and Brody must woo Veris using the customs of medieval England, win his heart and his full commitment before Jerusalem falls in four days’ time–or when they return to their own time, their lives as they know them will be gone…

••••••••••••••••

Kiss Across Swords begins four years after Kiss Across Time ends. And, oh what a story it is. They have come up with a phrase that allows them to know that everyone is aware that they’ve jumped and are all on the same page. Seems jumping can leave you a little dazed. Imagine that?!

When they jump in this installment, they are thrown back into the time when Brody and Veris met and became lovers, during the First Crusade in Jerusalem. One big problem. For some reason, Veris does not recognize Brody or Taylor this go around. And, to top it all off, if Brody and Veris don’t get together during this jump before they all jump back to the present time, the future will be irrevocably changed and Veris will not be part of their lives. Throw in a female vampire who doesn’t want to share Veris with anyone and their battle with the Fatimids and they have their work cut out for them.

The sex scenes in this book are pretty explicit. After all, Brody and Taylor are having to seduce a man whom they both already love and know exactly how to go about it. Because once they get Veris back, Taylor has big news that will forever change their lives.

About the Book:

When dying becomes an act of love.

It is four years since Taylor and Brody almost lost Veris during the First Crusade. Now they know how to control time jumps, they have settled into a very nearly perfect, nearly human life, raising their daughter Marit.

When Brody defies Queen Tira to protect Marit, the three of them jump back three days in time to collect evidence the queen set up Brody for a drug bust in retribution. The jump sends them back to Brody’s personal nightmare: Fifth century Constantinople.

While Brody survives as a flogged slave, Taylor masquerades as the wife of an aristocrat and searches for Brody to release him. They must wait for Veris to find them before jumping home and Taylor watches each brutal chariot race, wondering if this will be Brody’s last. Brody once died in the Hippodrome and he is human this time, too….

•••••••••••••••••

Review:  Kiss Across Chains begins four years after Kiss Across Swords. They have settled into their lives and cherish their time with their daughter, Marit. But, once the queen discovers what’s going on, she’s not happy. And, as the blurb says, she sets Brody up to teach them all a lesson. Seems she forgot her lesson in the first book………. No one will intrude upon their family and no one will separate them.

This book has been my favorite so far. The cruelty and torture that Brody endures during their jump back in this one is hard to read. Add to it the fact that Taylor has to witness much of it and the tears fall. Of course they fix the problems that allow them to keep Marit and set things right for their “future”. I loved getting to know more about Brody. And the strength and determination that Taylor exhibits during this jump is inspiring. She’ll do whatever it takes to ensure that her family is reunited. Throw Veris in and these three are unstoppable.

This is a wonderful series. If I’m being honest, the first one was a bit slow, but once I got into the second book, and then the third? I was hooked. I love that we get history lessons through each book. Their jumps back in time do that particular time’s history justice. Cooper-Posey does a wonderful job of filling us in on what’s going on without bogging us down with unnecessary descriptions. You can hear the hooves, hear the chariots and smell the dust. You can also feel the love these three feel for each other and fall head over heels for them yourself. I can’t wait for the next installment!!

The Montgomerys and Armstrongs – Book 2

About the book: Released March 19, 2013

Genevieve McInnes is locked behind the fortified walls of McHugh Keep, captive of a cruel laird who takes great pleasure in ruining her for any other man. Yet when Bowen Montgomery storms the gates on a mission of clan warfare, Genevieve finds that her spirit is bent but not broken. Still, her path toward freedom remains uncertain. Unable to bear the shame of returning to a family that believes her dead or to abandon others at the keep to an imposing new laird, Genevieve opts for the peaceful life of an abbess. But Bowen’s rugged sensuality stirs something deep inside her that longs to be awakened by his patient, gentle caress—something warm, wicked, and tempting.

Bowen seizes his enemy’s keep, unprepared for the brooding and reclusive woman who captures his heart. He’s enchanted by her fierce determination, her unusual beauty, and her quiet, unfailing strength. But wooing her will take more than a seasoned seducer’s skill. For loving Genevieve, he discovers, means giving her back the freedom that was stolen from her—even if it means losing her forever.

Review:

Highlander Most Wanted begins right after Never Seduce a Scot. Bowen, along with a contingent of Montgomerys and Armstrongs, is sent to the McHugh Keep to deal with the aftermath of Ian McHugh having kidnapped his brother and Laird’s wife, Eveline. Immediately upon his arrival at the McHugh Keep, he and his entire group encounter a small boy at the entrance of the keep. And, almost immediately a beautiful, mysterious woman appears to shield the boy and confront the Mongtomerys. Bowen is instantly intrigued, especially when she, Genevieve turns and he sees the horrid scar on the side of her face. Genevieve holds her ground then returns to the McHughs in the courtyard.

Once Bowen and the others enter the keep, he ascertains, rather quickly, that Genevieve is not well liked among her clansmen. She does, however, have one who is fierce in her support, Taliesan. To say that Bowen is livid over the fact that most of the male McHughs have fled, including their laird, and left the others with no real ability to defend themselves is the understatement of the year. And, once Genevieve’s story unfolds, Bowen is furious as to how anyone, male or female, could have held any of what happened to her against her. Seems, he has his work cut out for him. Because he already knows………… Genevieve will be his.

I always fear that those who read my reviews of Maya Banks’ stories think I am just being melodramatic. But, I’m not. NO ONE, in my humble opinion, writes these historicals like her. I always go into her new books with a bit of apprehension. After all, there is no way to top the previous book, right? 110% wrong!! I’ve said it before, I do not know how in the hell she does it. The way the battle scene plays out was genius. And, just the fact that Bowen doesn’t know for a little while what exactly happened makes it all the better. And, the way Genevieve finally comes to realize that she is entitled to be loved, feel protected and just be happy is amazing. To see her rise above the atrocities that were so egregiously heaped upon her will make anyone’s heart swell with pride.

I loved how the Montgomerys and the Armstrongs acted as one. And, hey, who would complain about more hot Scots?? Bowen is the quintessential hero. Strong, loving and oh so loyal to those he loves. Once again, I worship at the alter that is Maya Banks and can’t wait for the next installment!!

Otherworld Series book #13

About the book: Released January 29, 2013

We’re the D’Artigo sisters: savvy half-human, half-Fae ex-operatives for the Otherworld Intelligence Agency. My sister Delilah is a two-faced werecat and a Death Maiden. My sister Menolly is a vampire married to a werepuma. And me? I’m Camille, a wicked-good witch with three sexy husbands. I’m a priestess of the Moon Mother, and I’m training under the Queen of Darkness. Unfortunately, playing in the dark means that sometimes you stumble over secrets better left buried…

There’s a new Fae sorcerer in town—Bran, the son of Raven Mother and the Black Unicorn—and I’m the unwilling liaison between him and our new Earthside OIA. With cemeteries being ransacked and spirits being harvested by a sinister, otherworldly force, Aeval sends us to rescue the missing wife of a prominent member of the Fae nobility. Our search leads us to the mysterious Aleksais Psychic Network and, ultimately, to face the Lord of Ghosts where Morio and I must undergo a ritual that will plunge us directly into the world of the dead.

Review:

The D’Artigo sisters have been waging a battle with Shadow Wing, the leader of the evil force that is trying to break through the portals to wreak havoc in Otherworld as well as on Earth, since the beginning of this series. Galenorn has, over the life of this series, introduced us to her magical world of Fae, goblins, ghouls, bhouts, bone-walkers, necromancers, shifters, witches……..The list goes on and on. Each book centers on one sister, in repeat order: Camille, Delilah and Menolly. Each book is also a continuation of the previous, so reading in order, in my opinion, is a must in order for you to fully understand and appreciate all that happens in the storyline.

Camille, and one of her husbands, Morio, have been working on their death magic together for a while now, growing stronger and stronger. Once again, the sisters are called in as unexplainable things begin to pop up around Seattle . First zombies and then it seems someone or something is sucking up the souls of the dead around town, and there’s only one reason someone would do that. Power. Unfortunately, they realize that it’s Gulakah, the Lord of Ghosts, and that they know they may be in over their heads. Oh yeah, he’s also a god. They just can’t seem to catch a break………….

The sisters have an extensive extended family, and a powerful one. Camille’s other two husbands, Smoky (a half white and half silver dragon) and Trillian (a Svartan, one of the Charming Fae), along with Morio (a Japanese Fox Demon) are a formidable foursome. But, once they figure out that they will have to venture into the land of the dead, they delve into their treasure trove of extended family and face their nemesis head on.

Once again, Galenorn has written an intriguing tale of good versus evil. The list of supporting characters in this series is long and varied, and awesome. Usually, once I read the blurb about a book and I see the word Fae, I glaze over, but for some reason, this series works for me. I love it. I have from the first. She writes with passion and the story that she weaves leaves you anxiously waiting for the next. The stories are action packed and hot as hell. Even though each book centers on one sister, you get to see interaction with all of them. You don’t have to wait for two more books to see what’s going on with any of them. I can’t wait for the next one!!
