REVIEW:FORCED PROTECTOR is the sixth instalment in Victoria Paige’s contemporary, adult ROGUE PROTECTORS erotic, romantic suspense series focusing on a group of current and former US Navy SEALs, CIA Operatives and law enforcement. This is thirty-six year old, former CIA operative turned security specialist Hank Bristow aka Holden Buchanan, and twenty-nine year old, Royal Guard General / princess Thala Targen’s story line. FORCED PROTECTOR can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. For fans of Paige, there is a slight cross-over and mention of the characters from the SCORNED FATE series.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Hank and Thala) FORCED PROTECTOR follows in the aftermath of the attempted assassination of Venusstea’s Queen Amadea Targen on US soil. Queen Amadea and Princess Thala were in the US for the screening of a film featuring a segment of their country’s history but an attempt on both of their lives finds Queen Amadea whisked to places unknown, and Princess Thala under the protection of our story line hero. Enter former CIA operative Hank Bristow, the man with whom Thala will fall in love. Someone is targeting our story line heroine, and when their whereabouts are continually compromised, Hank and Thala suspect a mole, someone on the inside taking aim at the royal siblings. Meanwhile, hiding out at his family winery, Hank must come to terms with the numerous attempts to purchase the vineyard, a vineyard that has been in the family for years but betrayal from within begins to focus on someone close. With the help of his former operatives, Hank begins to unravel the secrets surrounding the Venusstea Royal family.

The world building follows several pathways including the assassination attempts against Thala and Amadea; a political and international nightmare for power and natural resources; the endeavor of outsiders to take control of the Buchanan winery; and a Royal family at odds with history, culture and laws of succession.

The relationship between Thala and Hank begins acrimoniously. Thala is a general in the Royal Guard, and as such believes she is capable of handling her own protection. Hank is determined to protect the woman with whom he is falling in love but the threats against her life are difficult to stop when they are coming from more than one possible direction. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative without the use of over the top, sexually graphic, language and text.

The secondary and supporting characters are numerous and dynamic: Hank’s cousin Christian, Uncle Edgar; Thala’s sister Amadea, her bodyguard Ramsay; as well as Hank’s teammates and fellow security specialists, several of whom we met in the previous story line. The requisite evil has many faces.

FORCED PROTECTOR is a story of betrayal and vengeance, power and control, greed and obsession, secrets and lies, acceptance and love. The premise is detailed, intriguing and dramatic; the romance is seductive and passionate; the characters are determined, and charismatic.

Ivy Wu, and her cousin Xander Wu are the face and designers for Donateka, a world wide, high end, luxury boutique, and their new line is about to draw the attraction of the people in the know but an attack against our heroine and her business finds Nico taking charge, proclaiming himself guardian and protector. As the attacks against Ivy increase, Nico battles with the demons from his past, believing the threats against Ivy may be his fault. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ivy and Nico, and the potential fall-out as Nico and Ivy becomes collateral damage in mutual wars.

The world building follows several intersecting paths focusing on the what was; what happened; and what was never meant to be. Nico battles the memories of what was, and Ivy struggles with the demons that refuse to let go.

The relationship between Nico and Ivy is tempestuous at best. The back and forth antagonistic banter is equally charged but in the past Nico has landed a few emotional punches that Ivy can never forget. Time spent together means the heart wants something more. The $ex scenes are provocative and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting powerful and charismatic characters including the extended De Lucci family including Nico’s sister Bianca, and their brother Matteo (Sera), parents Cesar and Ava (De Lucci’s Obsession), as well as Ivy’s brother Daniel, and their cousin Xander. The requisite evil has many faces. Bianca’s story line is next.

SCORNED LOVE is a story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, family and relationships, forgiveness and love. The premise is dramatic and intense; the romance is seductive and fated; the characters are determined and dynamic.

This is US Navy SEAL Levi and designer/Hollywood make up artist Kelly James’ storyline. THE WIFE ASSIGNMENT can be read as a stand alone but for back story and cohesion, I recommend reading the series in order for back story and cohesion. There is a slight cross-over with the author’s DE LUCCI’S OBSESSION.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Levi and Kelly) THE WIFE ASSIGNMENT follows the collapsing relationship and marriage of Levi and Kelly James. Approximately five years earlier, Levi lost a friend and Kelly’s brother Callum in an overseas operation that went all to h*ll. In the interim, Levi struggled with the guilt, leaving his wife and children behind. When Levi finally returned home, Kelly pushed for a divorce, and eighteen months would pass as Levi worked to make himself a better man but someone was waiting in the wings, and Levi saw red when his best friend took aim at the woman he loved. A missing person’s report would pull in Levi’s former US Navy SEALs team, a report that would see the Russian Bratva and the Italian Mob taking aim at our story line couple. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between Kelly and Levi, and the fall-out as the dead and missing resurface, forcing a confrontation between the powers at the top of the criminal underworld.

The relationship between Levi and Kelly is one of second chances; a rekindling romance in which Kelly battled between head and heart with the years of abandonment and rejection by the man that she loved. A high sexual rekindling, Levi and Kelly would both struggle with ghosts from the past, ghosts that refused to remain buried and gone. The $ex scenes are intimate, erotic and passionate but I dislike the use of a certain four-letter word in my romance story lines.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and energetic secondary and supporting characters including most of the previous story line couples, as well as Kelly’s adopted parents, brothers and sisters; Kelly’s birth mother and step-brother, as well as Kelly and Levi’s daughters Ashley and Whitney. The requisite evil has many faces.

THE WIFE ASSIGNMENT is a story of secrets and lies, grief and loss, retribution and retaliation, power and control, acceptance, forgiveness and love. The premise is detailed, complex and involved-I had not read any of the previous story lines and felt a little lost with the mention of characters and events; the characters are numerous, determined and charismatic; the romance is provocative and intense.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Ava and Cesar) DE LUCCI’S OBSESSION follows the building romance and relationship between twenty-three year old, university student Ava McGrath, and thirty-four year old underworld, crime lord Cesar De Lucci. Childhood friends with Cesar’s brother Paulie, Ava had grown up surrounded by the De Lucci family. On numerous occasions, the McGrath’s family owned bar and restaurant ‘Eamonn’s’ had been approached to cater one of the De Lucci’s family affairs but Ava’s mother refused all invitations until Ava discovered the true depth of her mother’s secret. Ava never expected to come face to face with Cesar De Lucci but Cesar was determined to claim Ava as his own, starting the night Ava was attacked for the sins of someone else. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Ava and Cesar, and the potential fall-out as the Feds set into motion a Mafia take down, that may or may not include our story line hero.

Cesar De Lucci has always had the intention of claiming Ava as his own but threats against Ava forced Cesar to show his hand, in an effort to protect the woman with whom he would fall in love. Ava refused to make it easy for our story line hero to claim her heart but it was her soul that Cesar wanted for all time. We are introduced to Ava’s brothers Sean, Charles, and assistant prosecutor at the US Attorney’s Office of the Southern District of New York Robert McGrath and his wife Madelyn, and their other Branna; Cesar’s brother Paulie and his wife Carlotta, their father Riccardo, uncle Jackie, and Tony Cap. The requisite evil has many faces.

DE LUCCI’S OBSESSION is a story of power, control and money, betrayal and vengeance, family, relationships, acceptance and love. The premise is compelling; the romance is provocative; the characters are sassy, spirited and edgy.
