ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date March 4, 2014

Gavin Mathis is ready to settle down. He’s quit his job and come home to Shadow Maverick Ranch to do just that. Too bad his decision caused his beautiful former colleague to lose her job.

Lauren Delgado is a no-nonsense businesswoman. She’s had a crush on Gavin for years, but has a strict “hand-off” policy with the men she works with. When her life takes an unexpected turn, there’s nothing to stop her from accepting his invitation to Galveston Island, where the policy is definitely hands-on.

•••••••••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: WHITE COLLAR COWBOY is the first instalment and novella in Parker Kincade’s adult, contemporary, western Shadow Maverick Ranch romance series. This is Gavin Mathis and Lauren Delgado’s story. Gavin, along with his twin sister, are the eldest Mathis siblings and he is about to take over the reigns at the family’s Shadow Maverick Ranch.

The focus of the storyline is the building relationship between Gavin and Lauren. A friends to lovers storyline, the reader is pulled into a story where Lauren must make a decision about her future, now that she is unemployed. Enter Gavin Mathis-a former colleague and the man she has crushed on for close to twelve years. When Gavin offers his house on the beach for a weekend to relax, Lauren is quick to accept not realizing that Gavin too, may have had plans of his own.

The world building introduces Gavin’s close knit family of five siblings who will be working together towards a common goal-in this-there is the potential for five more storylines. WHITE COLLAR COWBOY is a quick and erotic read that will pull you in from the very start. The sex scenes are sensual and arousing; there is never any question that our couple is attracted to one another. The storyline is well paced for a novella and there is none of the ‘rush to the finish’ of some short stories.

Parker Kincade has written an captivating storyline about two people who have loved one another from afar and have been given a second chance for a happily ever after. I can see myself becoming addicted to the storylines from the Shadow Maverick Ranch.

Gavin reached the shore and dragged his tired limbs from the water. He snatched up his clothes and walked, naked and unconcerned, up to the house. His legs protested as he climbed the stairs to the porch. Maybe he had overdone it a little, but he resisted falling into one of the deck chairs, instead dropping his stuff outside the door as he slid it open. A quick shower to rinse the Gulf from his skin, maybe a beer or two, and he was done.

As he breeched the threshold, a movement to the left caught his attention and he turned, completely gobsmacked by what he found.

His weakened limbs found the renewed strength to hold him in place, standing completely still so as not to shatter the vision before him.
She was here. She was actually here.

Gavin watched in utter fascination as Lauren slipped the shirt from her shoulders. Inch by gorgeous inch, she unknowingly revealed her back to him. The creamy skin made his mouth water. His body tensed and he yearned to reach out, to touch, to tease, to pleasure.

Obviously, she thought she was alone. He should make his presence known. Shouldn’t stand here and watch as she unhooked her bra. And definitely shouldn’t watch as she … sweet mercy, was she caressing her—fuck.

A flash of lust burned through him. Gavin licked his lips, his tongue suddenly desperate for something to do. His gaze focused on the movement of her arms as she cupped her breasts. He’d give anything to know what, who she was thinking about right now. He wanted it to be him, hoped it was him. It was wrong, so wrong, yet he remained still, transfixed, waiting to see what she did next.
A tiny sound emerged from her throat, and his cock hardened in response. Her arms dropped. So did his gaze. The shimmering blue panties she wore didn’t quite cover her butt cheeks and he groaned as she bent to pick up what appeared to be a bikini top. Not panties then. Jesus, she was changing into a bathing suit. Not performing some kind of erotic strip tease.

Lauren spun, slapping her palms to her breasts. Not fast enough to keep him from seeing her tawny nipples, both drawn up to tight little buds.

Her gaze drifted over him, lingering over his chest before heading lower. Her eyes widened as she took in the rest of him. “W-what are you doing here?”

He made no attempt to cover himself. “It’s my house.” Simple, to the point. Truth. And all he was capable of at the moment.

Her fingers tightened, her breasts threatening to spill from the confines of her small, delicate hands. Hands he’d like to replace with his own.

“That’s not what I meant. You said you were leaving tonight.”
He nodded slowly. “Yes, and I did. You never asked me where I was going.”

“So, you asked me to come, but thought I wouldn’t if I knew you’d be here?”

He could practically hear the gears turning in her head. And he appreciated the fact she was pleased with what she saw, but she was making coherent thought damn near impossible.

“Staring at it like that is only going to make it worse, sweetheart,” he said gently.

Her eyes snapped up, a light blush staining her cheeks. “Like what?”

“Like it’s candy.” She was killing him. He couldn’t remember ever being so hard. The stubborn set of her chin, the darkening of her eyes, everything about her intrigued him, called to him.

“I need a shower.” The saltwater from his swim was already starting to make his skin itch, and he needed to get the hell away before he tossed her to the couch and fucked her blind.

He looked her up and down again, taking full advantage of his first opportunity to see her body, the curves that had tempted him for so long. She was even more beautiful than he’d imagined. Lean, muscular legs, rounded hips and an ass he’d like to sink his hands into. Breasts too big for her smaller hands, but perfect for his.

“Unless you’d like to join me, I’d suggest you put on something more substantial.” He glanced pointedly the apex of her legs. “Because knowing I’m one scrap of material from having you naked is driving me crazy.” As if she hadn’t seen the rock-hard evidence of his arousal already.

Slowly, her lips curled upward. “Well, I seem to remember you telling me I could help myself to anything I wanted.” She dropped her hands, baring her nipples for his view. “So, yes, Gavin. I think a shower sounds perfect.”

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date June 1, 2013

Grace Riley is on the run—from her past and from her fears. The victim of a violent rape at the hands of a rich politician’s son, she must “disappear” to escape his constant attempts to recapture her. Moving from cattle drive to cattle drive as a cook, she avoids her tormentor for nearly twenty years. When she discovers that the brother she gave up for adoption after their mother died in childbirth was orphaned at an early age, she is frantic to verify that he’s safe. She tracks him to a cattle ranch in Montana.

Widower Adam Morgan owns the Twin Springs ranch, but finds himself falling into a life of loneliness. Although he enjoys spending time with his grown daughter and the two men he rescued when they were living on the streets, he longs to meet a woman he can love. Living in the Montana territory where men greatly outnumber women makes finding a new wife difficult. Weary of working cattle, he is ready to make some changes in his life.

Grace falls ill on her journey, but she manages to make it to the Twin Springs ranch where her brother is supposed to be living. Adam takes her in, concerned for her health and the reason she’s searching for one of his adopted sons. Their chemistry is immediate and intense, but can Grace heal from her past of pain and fear? When her secrets are finally revealed, can Adam forgive her deceptions and learn to love again?

••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: SAVING GRACE is the first instalment in Sandy James’s historical western, romance Safe Havens series. The series focuses on a tight knit group of friends and family from Montana in and around the 1880’s. There are two love stories building throughout Saving Grace: Grace Riley and Adam Morgan’s story; Matthew Riley (Grace’s brother) and Victoria Morgan (Adam’s daughter).

The premise follows Grace as she searches for her ‘brother’ Jake- given up for adoption twenty years earlier. Believing she has finally found the clues to her missing sibling, Grace runs into trouble when her past stops at nothing to keep Grace from running away. When Grace finds herself at the Twin Springs ranch where years earlier Jake had found a home, she will come face to face with her future and the man she would grow to love.

Adam Morgan is the personification of the perfect husband and mate. He is supportive, protective and although he knows the woman with whom he has fallen in love keeps buried a secret that results in numerous nightmares, Adam allows Grace the time to recover and more forward. But not too much time because Grace is being stalked and the man is obsessed with the woman he cannot have.

The second storyline focuses on Adam’s daughter Victoria and Grace’s brother Matthew-their relationship is a little more angst ridden as Matthew pushes all of Victoria’s proverbial feminist buttons. For a woman from the 1800s Victoria is an independent female who isn’t afraid to speak her mind, wear pants or get her hands dirty rustling up a few new horses for the farm. Their relationship is a bit more volatile as Matthew keeps pulling away with each encounter.

SAVING GRACE is a story of pure romance where one woman’s past can never be forgotten. From a rape at fourteen years of age to finally finding that special someone in her life, SAVING GRACE blends betrayal with heartache; truth with lies; moving on and letting go. Sandy James writes a sweet storyline of finding love and a happily ever after.

Despite her strong attraction to Ty, Cassie knows she must keep her distance to protect him from the hired guns the Shays send to retrieve her.

But their love will not be denied, and they must fight for justice before forging their future together.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: RUNAWAY is the second instalment in Sandy James’s historical western, romance Safe Havens series focusing on a group of friends and family in Montana. This is Cassie Shay and Ty Bishop’s story –one that advances the series approximately three to four years.

The premise follows Cassie as she uncovers a plot to murder Ty and his best friend Jake Curtis. Jake is the son of Grace Morgan and has been invited to meet his extended Shay family on the west coast. When Jake and Ty encounter a life or death situation, it will be a young twenty year old woman-Cassie Shay-who rescues the pair from their untimely demise. Cassie is a woman on the run but Ty will ensure that the only place she runs to will be to Montana –with him.

Ty’s attraction to Cassie is immediate although they are from different backgrounds, different class and different education. As they make their way across country, Ty begins to fall for the feisty Cassie Shay but getting his family and friends back home to accept her will be another problem-all together. Cassie comes from one of the most hated families and no one is willing to open their arms a woman whose family has threatened everyone they love.

Sandy James pulls the reader into a romantic storyline about two people from different walks of life-Ty believes he is not worthy of Cassie’s love and affection and, Cassie believes that she has placed everyone in danger with her presence and connection to the Shay family.

RUNAWAY is a story of heartbreak and betrayal; family and friends; love and letting go. Many of the previous storyline characters play secondary roles as well as the introduction of the next story hero-Caleb Young.

If you like a romantic storyline about a hard working cowboy and a strong willed heroine then RUNAWAY is the perfect read for a lazy afternoon.

ABOUT THE BOOK: Release Date February 10, 2014

Sold into prostitution, Sara Fuller robs a client and flees to her brother in White Pines, Montana.

Anxiously awaiting his mail order bride, rancher Caleb Young is delighted when a beautiful woman steps off the stagecoach. A series of misassumptions soon finds the two taking their marriage vows.

When Sara discovers she isn’t Caleb’s intended bride, she hides her scandalous past and sets out to prove she can be a good wife. Caleb adores Sara but suspects her of hiding something very important. Despite Sara’s secrets, their love grows and a child is conceived.

When Caleb’s real bride arrives, their troubles begin, only to be compounded by the appearance of the man Sara robbed. Now the two lovers must discover whether their love is strong enough to survive the forces threatening to tear them apart.

••••••••••••••••••

REVIEW: REDEEMED is the third instalment in Sandy James’s historical western, romance Safe Havens series set in the 1880’s countryside of Montana. This is Sara and Caleb’s story. Sara is Ty Bishop’s sister and Caleb is Gideon’s brother –who were both introduced in book two Runaway. Sara is on the run and heads to Montana where she is hoping to find refuge with her brother but finds love and a future with a stranger who believes she is his mail order bride. The novel advances the series approximately one year.

The storyline focuses on Caleb and Sara’s building relationship as well as Sara’s struggle to keep the secrets about her past-in the past. Her history as a ‘whore’ runs too close to a Caleb’s own family secret and when the truth is revealed Caleb leaves his young wife alone to struggle with tending the farm and a new born baby. He is a man who believes he has been manipulated and betrayed but not once did he ever consider the circumstances of Sara’s past. Caleb’s selfishness puts his young bride’s health at risk as she is determined to keep the farm running without anyone’s help.

The relationship between Caleb and Sara is quick to build; a quick marriage and acceptance but not once did we feel the love between the couple until it was too late. Caleb is a man who believes his new wife to be an innocent and Sara is a woman who knows that once the truth is revealed, she will lose everything including the man with whom she has fallen in love.

I did have one small concern and it seems to have prevailed from storyline to storyline-this is a small town where everyone is willing to help out those in need; newcomers etc but once they discover the secrets; the past or the truth, these people are quick to judge, take offense and push away. Not quite neighborly when things turn bad.

Most of the previous storyline characters are present including Caleb’s brother Gideon; Ty and Cassie; Grace and Adam. The story is well paced, easy to follow and introduces the next potential single male looking for love.

Sandy James has written an enjoyable, romantic series where one storyline flows into the next. With the inclusion of previous storyline characters, there is a familiar feel to the time, the place and the people. Although each book can be read as a stand-alone I would recommend reading in order.

My income tax return says that I am a teacher. I had originally intended it to say “lawyer,” but romance, marriage, and motherhood set my life on a different course.

I’ve been married to Jeff James since 1983. Even after all these years, he is still the love of my life. Jeff and I have two grown children who make us proud every day.

My husband and I share another strong and wonderful interest that is not only a great part of our day-to-day lives but has also become a running theme throughout some of my books. We own a small racing stable of Standardbred Harness horses, pacers to be exact. We have always loved the sport and as our children grew up enough to have their own interests, Jeff looked into what it would be like to own a racehorse. We jumped into the sport with both feet and are loving every minute of it.

As another bit of personal information, I’d like to share that several years ago I was diagnosed with lupus. I know that there are others out there who either have had the same diagnosis or know someone who has. I’m sharing this because I want to encourage you all that chronic illnesses do not have to keep you down and out of the swing of life. I still teach, still work with my horses, have a wonderful family life, and am still able to spend hours at my laptop writing on my latest book.

I am blessed to be leading a life full of the things I like to do and people I love.

About the book:  Release Date February 12, 2014

Even in the darkest of shadows, love can light the way.

Nicholas Graham is caught in the middle: of his family, of his desires, of his own unhappiness. After he meets Winnie Watson, his self-imposed curmudgeonly existence pales in comparison to spending time with her. He wants to be with her, to get to know her. She is a beacon to all the secret cravings he has controlled. Until now.

Winnie Watson endured, and survived, a horrendous childhood that would give others nightmares. She started over, a new name, a new goal in life. Then she met the Grahams and everything went sideways. She’s done the unthinkable and struggles to accept it. She wants to forget it all again, but the specter of Nicholas Graham, physical and in her dreams, won’t let her move on.

Caught between their needs, their wants, and what the world will allow them, Nick and Winnie are doomed from the moment they met. However, love will teach them that even the biggest obstacles can be overcome if you believe in love.

•••••••••••••••••••••

This is book five in The Circle Eight series by Emma Lang. I’ve never read any of Ms. Lang’s books before, but I can see I’m missing out on some wonderful wild west adventures filled with sinfully swoon worthy cowboys. Even though this book is a short but fast paced read, Ms. Lang packs it full of detail and back story so I never once felt I was missing pieces to a puzzle.

We quickly learn that Nicholas and Winnie have already crossed paths in the previous book. Nicholas lives with his 7 siblings at their Circle 8 Ranch, while Winnie runs a boarding house in Houston. We also learn that he wound up saving her life in the previous book. Thanks to all the backstory, we see how this leads us up to this point in both their lives. Both characters are feeling lost, alone and carry a darkness in them that they can’t seem to banish without the other. Somehow over their short time together previously, they formed a bond, and discovered they are whole as long as they have the other in their lives, but can they find a way to be together, and does the other person feel the same way? As Winnie and Nicholas embark on a journey to find her daughter she had given up at birth, they find that love does indeed conquer all and both will fight with everything they have to be together and form a family neither thought they’d ever have one day.

Like I said earlier on this is a fast paced read, but never once did I find I was confused or missing pieces to the story. The story is well written, with a solidly developed plot that’s easy to follow, and a cast of characters that are well developed and easy to like. The men are strong and capable, and want nothing more then to protect what’s theirs and love their women. These men are your typical gun- slinging cowboys who don’t allow anyone or anything to threaten their own. Love of family, unity and loyalty is seen throughout the book and is showcased in every interaction between the Graham siblings. I especially enjoyed the sibling interactions where they poke fun at each other, but through it all they love one another unconditionally and will always have each other’s backs. These comical scenes were well placed and timed in my opinion and balanced nicely with the seriousness of the plot that involved Nicholas, Winnie and her daughter. Now I just wish I had been reading this series from the beginning. Guess I’ll have to find the time to so.

Until next time, happy reading everyone

Excerpt beige

Just like that Nicholas was there in front of her. All the breath whooshed from her body and her face heated. She felt like a twelve-year-old girl and not a twenty-five-year-old woman. He was incredibly handsome with thick, dark wavy hair and those blue-green eyes like Elizabeth. His jaw was set, seemingly carved of granite. He stood with his legs apart, arms crossed and hat down toward his eyes. Dangerous. Unfriendly. A shiver ran up her spine despite the warm summer day.Beside him were three other men, two were obviously kin with the same eyes and build. The other had hair as dark as pitch and the coldest blue eyes she’d ever seen. The four of them were a wall of muscle and guns.

“Montgomery. Who’s your friend?” One of the other men spoke to Vaughn.Vaughn squeezed her arm.

“This is Miss Winifred Watson. She is a friend of mine and Ellie’s. Benjy and Nicholas also know her.”

The men’s gazes cut to Nicholas, who hadn’t moved so much as an eyelash.

“That true, Nick? You know her?” The same man spoke, and she came to the conclusion he must be the eldest, Matthew. After a few moments of excruciating silence, during which Winnie’s cheeks heated, he finally nodded. It wasn’t as if she came armed and threatened the family. She was a wedding guest. This type of greeting was unacceptable even in impolite society.

“I am also able to speak for myself. Elizabeth and Vaughn invited me to the wedding. I’m unaware there was an inquisition involved to attend.” Her sharp words made three of the men smile.

“She reminds me of Aurora.” The second brother spoke.

“And Hannah when she gets a bee in her bonnet.”

“Damn sure is tart like Liv, too.” This from the dark one.

“We’re pleased you could come, Miss Watson. I’m Matt Graham and this is my brother Caleb and brother-in-law Brody Armstrong.” Matt tipped his hat. “I’m sure Ellie will be happy to see you. The women folk are in the house. Why don’t you take her there, Montgomery?”

“I’d be happy—”

“No.” Nicholas finally spoke.

“Pardon me?” Vaughn’s tone told her he was near his breaking point with his new family. They were tough men—she didn’t blame him. If she hadn’t been dealing with men her entire life who were harder, darker and more evil, she might have been intimidated.

“You go near that house, and the women are gonna shoot you.” Nick unfolded his arms. “I’ll take her.”

Guest Post beige

What’s so good about being the guy in the White Hat?

As a western romance writer, I have all sorts of heroes in hats, the cowboy kind that is. Not all of them are honorable men though. *gasp* Yes, it’s true, sometimes my heroes don’t where the white hat.

ICowboy in white hat am very much the kind of writer who tries to stay true to real life. I’ve had heroines who are homeless, disabled, bitchy and even scarred physically. I’ve had heroes who are drunks, suffer from PTSD, or missing a limb. Yes, the book is an escape from reality but in order to identify with the hero/heroine, I feel like they have to feel real to me, and consequently, to the reader.

So my heroes can also be bad guys, who find their way to a good place with the love of a heroine. I’ve had heroes who are truly badasses, men you would not want courting your daughter.

The first was Hermano, who made an appearance in my first book, The Bounty. In the first scene, Hermano was torturing the hero, Tyler Calhoun, to give him information. Nice guy, eh? He pops up throughout the book, and the next, The Prize, dancing in the shadows in the periphery.

Hermano kept whispering in my ear while I slept, telling me he needed his own story, por favor. I couldn’t resist the pull of such a dark, sexy man, one who valued loyalty but would kill in a blink if need be.

Thus, my third book, The Reward, became Hermano’s story. He was Malcolm Ross y Zarza, a half-scottish, half-mexican man with a past of his own, one that thrust him into the role of a bandito.

Cowboy in black hatHe’s unapologetic for his actions and his choices – one of the things I love about him. He’s real, y’know?

The second hero with a gun and a dark soul is also from the Malloy family books, Kincaid. Oh, Kincaid, how I love thee. He first appeared in book five, The Gift, as a man hired to kill the heroine, Adelaide. Somewhere along the way he became friends with Brett Malloy, the most reticent and quietest of the brothers. So when Brett’s story, The Tribute, was published, Kincaid played a major role. He found a friend in Brett that he’d not found before. At the end of The Tribute, Kincaid disappears only to resurface in his own book, Hell for Leather.

A man who survived a wickedly awful childhood, Kincaid tries to start over, to emulate the man he wants to be like his friend Brett. He finds a place to be, and a new name, Cade Brody, and tries to keep his dark past buried beneath the roots of a pine tree. It takes a strong woman, Sabrina, to force him to confront that blackness and find the love he deserves.

My third serious badass hero is Grady Wolfe from Ruthless Heart, my first book published as Emma Lang. Grady is the penultimate bad guy – who will take any and all jobs for money. He’d been an assassin since he was fifteen, darkest of dark. It takes a scientific, brainy heroine like Eliza Hunter to smash through the castle of hell he lives in, and find the man he could be.

Onto the Circle Eight… Brody Armstrong first appeared in the Circle Eight: Matthew as the investigator for the crimes committed against the Graham family. Black hair, ice blue eyes and an attitude to match, Brody was a mysterious force who needed to return for his own story, The Circle Eight: Brody. He wears a black hat and is hard as the land he protects. Fortunately for him, Olivia Graham is just as tough and stubborn as Brody. Clash of the Titans, y’all. 🙂

And now back to the Malloys – they lure me back in, don’t they? My newest release is THE PROSPECT. Not only is Declan Callahan a badass, he’s an enforcer for an Irish gang. He isn’t the darkest of men, but he lives in the shadows of all the things he’s done for money, including kidnapping Francesca Chastain who becomes John Malloy’s wife in THE FORTUNE. Her sister Josephine gets trapped with Declan through a series of circumstances. Declan wrestles with the chains that keep his soul trapped and his heart, which has fallen in love with Jo.

He tries his damnedest to forget his past, but it hangs on his back. While Jo tries to make him see all their future can be, he drags around those damn chains. It’s only when he loses everything he has, again, that he recognizes he has been reborn, and a second chance awaits him with Jo.

Who doesn’t like a dark, tortured hero? Each of these men personified what I want to see happen to all badass men, redemption. I find the bad heroes are the ones who steal my heart, especially those in the black hat riding a horse. 😉

Lauren Linwood’s western romances are the things of legend! She has written some flavorful and exciting stories and A Game of Chance is the latest in this body of work.

The story begins with a look into the past of 1845. Cara Lee, a young lady, is dying in childbirth, her cruel actor husband, Gordon, only wants the baby to ensure his inheritance from his grandfather Max. He is actually cold and cruel to the poor dying girl and leaves as soon as the mid-wife hands him the baby boy. He doesn’t even stay to comfort her as she dies or see to her burial.

However, the fate’s turn on him, as soon as he leaves, poor Cara Lee gives birth to another baby boy. The mid-wife does not know the father’s name or where to get in touch with him about the second son. Not a great mother figure, but at least she kept the lad and instilled in him a sense of right and wrong! His only gift from his mother was a gold locket with her initials.

We then go into the future, about 1870, with Jed Stone in a Stockton jail, awaiting trial for a crime he did not commit. However, the face on the wanted poster, which read “Wanted Cal Hart” for murder, rape and robbery, was clearly his face.

Thus begins this intriguing tale of intertwined lives, it really is a small world at times! Ms. Linwood has taken the lives of very different people and intertwined them into an exciting tale of fortune’s won and lost and true love in its many forms.

Jed manages to escape the jail and heads for San Francisco. There he chances to meet “Lil”, the famous madam of Lucky Lil’s Sporting House (whorehouse and gambling, but a nice one). Lil has made her house famous and no longer “services” the customers, but charms them as the “ladies” take care of business. Jed is saved from the Stockton sheriff taking him back to Stockton by “Lil”; who he finds out is not actually Lil, but her daughter Lilly. Lilly, who favors her mother greatly, has been acting as Lil while her mother is actually upstairs ill and slowly dying.

Ok, that’s all the spoilers! It’s an exciting tale of intrigue, misunderstanding, and twisted fates. Will Jed and Lilly fall in love, and can it work? Will he finally meet his cruel and absent father and his villainous twin brother? There is also an element of revenge for the death of his old friend, Louis, by a cheating gambler.

Ah, this is one story you must read for yourselves, and I guarantee it’s a tale worth the reading. Many trials and hardships await…the righting of old wrongs and much, much, more!

I personally found this a 3 glass at a time (of wine, of course) book! Very hard to put down, the characters are well done and loveable (at least the good guys); the villains are hate-able and pathetic! Just what a good western should be. Enjoy everyone, I certainly did!
