MY THOUGHTS: ‘Reviewing’ a serialized novel is difficult; made more challenging when consecutive instalments are brief requiring cohesion between instalments for a completed summary. World building and character development transpires over several instalments making it problematic for individual reviews but necessary for a cumulative final judgement.
REVIEW: AGAINST PROTOCOL is the first instalment in Eden Butler’s contemporary, adult PROTOCOL erotic, romance serial focusing on former first lady Ophelia ‘Lia’ Harris, and Secret Service agent Cruz Solano.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Cruz and Lia) AGAINST PROTOCOL follows in the wake of the assassination of the American President, leaving First Lady Ophelia ‘Lia’ Harris a widow at thirty-six. Having endured her husband’s numerous affairs, Lia is shocked to discover that her new security detail includes the man with whom she was once in love. Enter Cruz Solano, Lia’s former college lover.
AGAINST PROTOCOL sets the stage for the second chance relationship and romance between Lia and Cruz, as the security team must endeavour to keep the former First Lady safe. With her husband’s killer still on the run, Lia is considered a target until the job is done. The premise is engaging; the $ex scene is intimate and intense; the characters are colorful and dynamic.
