When I married my husband, we promised till death do us part. Too bad only one of us meant it.
Licking my wounds, I’m forced to take my son and move back home to start over. Also not in my plans is Kane Decker, my high school crush, still living next door to my parents. Yet there he is, in all his mouth-watering glory, determined to help me find the carefree girl he once knew.
Kane makes me want things. And I’m not sure I’m ready to open my heart up again no matter how amazing his kiss is or how much I crave his skin against mine. He’s trying to change my mind, doing his best to convince me to let him in because this time he’s the right one.

REVIEW:THE RIGHT ONE is the first instalment in Michelle A Valentine’s contemporary, adult THE DECKER BROTHERS erotic, romance series. This is twenty seven year old primary school counselor Janie Mitchell-Bandy, and twenty-nine year old Coast Guard/rescue swimmer Kane Decker.
Told from dual first person perspectives (Janie and Kane) THE RIGHT ONE follows the best friend’s sister relationship between twenty-seven year old primary school counselor Janie Mitchell-Bandy, and twenty nine year old Coast Guard/rescue swimmer Kane Decker. Approximately nine years earlier seventeen year old Janie Mitchell made a pass at her brother’s best friend, nineteen year old Kane Decker, but Kane was having nothing to do with it, resulting in Janie running away with a broken heart. Fast forward to present day wherein Janie returns to her home town with her tail tucked between her legs, after her husband asked for a divorce, giving up all rights to their only child. Surprised to find Kane Decker as her personal chauffeur, Kane will eventually proclaim his ongoing attraction to the woman he has always loved but tragedy strikes the small town of Bar Harbor, pushing Kane of our heroine’s life. Months will pass before Kane becomes the man he once was but tragedy strikes again, just as Kane and Janie agree to forever. what ensues is the rebuilding romance and relationship between Janie and Kane, and the potential fall-out as the past comes back with a vengeance.
Janie Mitchell has loved Kane Decker for as long as she can remember but when Kane rejected Janie’s advances, Janie ran without looking back. Now married, and the mother of a young son, Janie never expected to return to Bar Harbor, facing a divorce, and the man continues to star in her fantasies and dreams. Kane Decker has loved and lost, and with a young child of his own, Kane considers everything that has happened in the past, and looks forward to a future with the woman he still loves.
The relationship between Kane and Janie is a best friend’s sister/unrequited love scenario in which Janie’s return brings back memories from the past. Kane hopes to immediately pick up where they left off nine years earlier, but Janie’s life had been upended only hours and days before. Knowing that Janie is the woman he has always loved, Kane bides his time. The $ex scenes are intimate and seductive without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.
We are introduced to Kane’s brothers Calvin and Warner; Janie’s brother Jamie, and her best friend Eve; Janie’s son Mattie, and Kane’s daughter Abby, as well as both Janie and Kane’s parents, and Janie’s ex husband Gregg Bandy.
THE RIGHT ONE is a story of family, friendships, betrayal and revenge. The character driven premise is captivating and entertaining; the romance is flirtatious and provocative; the characters are dynamic and delightful.
