REVIEW

4.5 out of 5 for this reader folks!

WOW .. well that was a little different. Different in a good way and not what I come to expect in a medieval romance. Don’t get me wrong, it had all I covet, it was just that there was so much going on at all times that I felt like I was always trying to keep up with the stories pace. I kinda really loved that too! I also have never experienced what I will refer to as a love octagon. Everyone was loving up on people they shouldn’t be loving up on and saying there was a love triangle is just too simple! LOL

The Seventh Son by Ashley York is a medieval romance and the 4th book of her “Norman Conquest” series. I did not read the first three before I read this one, and I did feel like I was missing out on some back story because of that. I will go back and read the first three for sure. I suppose you could read this as a stand alone, but again, why miss out!?

Set in Ireland 1075, the book gets down to business right away. Tadhg MacNaughton has become clan leader after the death of his father. He also has uncovered a secret as to why his father broke a peace treaty with a clan that they share resources with. It just so happens that Tadhg has been betrothed to this other clans daughter since they were kids and is madly in love with her. Tadhg is strong in conviction, wise and takes his leadership seriously. After receiving news that his betrothal is broken, he must endure hardship and humiliation in order to feed his people.

Tisa O’Brien is devastated when she learns her betrothal is broken. She loves Tadhg with all her heart and cannot understand what happened. Before she has a chance to protest, she is whisked away and married to another clan who are reputed to be savages at best. Her new husband is actually homosexual, her father in law a disgusting beast who lusts for her in a way that makes you stomach turn, and then to add insult to injury, she finds out that Tadhg will be fighting for this clan in order to feed his own clan.

The story loops, goes up and down, inside and out from there. There was never one dull moment. Ashley really placed much effort in ensuring character believably. I love it when an author can also make you like and hate a character at the same time. If you are an emotional reader like I am, then you will appreciate all the emotions experienced in this book. You may even find that you are rooting for a villain to get a HEA .. LOL

Overall a very impressive read and an author I am excited to indulge in. I did feel a little confused as to who was who in the beginning, but that stems from not reading the first 3 books and appreciated some back story. That will be rectified soon! If you are looking for a great medieval romance that has a dash of different, then this is the author for you!

HAPPY READING! 🙂
