REVIEW: THORNS OF SILENCE is the fourth book in Eva Winner’s contemporary, adult THORNS OF OMERTA dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is Phoenix Romero, and Dante Leone’s story line. THORNS OF SILENCE runs parallel to, and crosses over with the events of THE STOLEN EMPIRE trilogy that focuses on Dante’s brother Amon, and Phoenix’s sister Reina.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Phoenix and Dante) using present day and memories from the past, THORNS OF SILENCE follows the rekindling but tempestuous relationship between our story line couple. Five years earlier Dante and Phoenix’s lives spiralled out of control, and in the ensuing years, Phoenix never forgave the man who destroyed her heart but the truth is stranger than Phoenix could have ever imagined when she discovers that Dante is no longer the man with whom she had fallen in love. As Dante continues to pursue our story line heroine, memories from the past begin to reveal a Romeo and Juliet tale of dysfunctional family values. What ensues is the rebuilding relationship between our story line couple, and the potential fall-out when secrets reveal a dark and dangerous past for Dante and Phoenix.

The world building crosses over with the Stolen Trilogy in which we are up close and personal with Amon and Reina but Amon is unaware of the true nature of everything Dante lost, including the woman that once called to his heart. Phoenix continues to struggle with the anger she feels towards Dante Romero but Dante never expected to face the end, and loss the woman he loves, a second time. Three more years will pass before the truth is finally revealed.

The relationship between Dante and Phoenix is one of second chances but Phoenix is unable to let go of the past, a past that was taken without her consent. Dante is unaware of what happened or why, and in this, the slow reveal of his memories bring with it heart break and loss. The $ex scenes intimate and passionate.

There is a large ensemble cast of colorful and controversial secondary and supporting characters many of whom we have met in previous instalments and The Stolen Empire Trilogy: Dante’s brother Amon and his girlfriend/wife Reina; Dante’s right hand man Cesar; Reina and Phoenix’s father and grandmother Diana Bergman; Reina and Phoenix’s friend Isla and Raven; as well as Illias Konstantin (Thorns of Lust/Thorns of Love): Enrico Marchetti (Thorns of Death), and several members of the Russian Bratva, Greek Mafia, Japanese Yakuza, and Cartel.

THORNS OF SILENCE is a story of devastating betrayal and vengeance; secrets and lies; power and control, dysfunctional family dynamics, forgiveness, acceptance, loss and love . The premise is emotional, heart breaking and intriguing; the romance is limited as our couple spend most of the story line separate, fighting or at odds; the characters are broken, desperate and charismatic.
