REVIEW: VICIOUS VOWS is the second instalment in Ella Jade’s contemporary, adult CRUEL EMPIRE dark, erotic, Mafia romance series. This is the continuing story of thirty year old heir to the throne Marchello Accetti, and twenty-one year old Mafia princess Lissia Gallanti. VICIOUS VOWS should not be read as a stand alone as it picks up after the events and cliff hanger of book one RUTHLESS OATH.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Marchello and Lissia) VICIOUS VOWS continues to focus on the tempestuous relationship between Marchello and LIssia, and the impending war between the Accetti and Gallanti families. Lissia’s father had given his daughter to an arms dealer in exchange for power and control but having been rescued by Marchello Accetti, Lissia found herself caught between her father and the man with whom she was falling in love, a man who is struggling with his attraction to his enemy’s daughter but an attempt on their lives pushes Marchello to think the improbable in the wake of falling for our story line heroine. With his father in hiding, and the Cartel breathing down their proverbial necks, Marchello Accetti has regained control of the top but his feisty prisoner is making life more difficult than he could have ever imagined.

Once again, the world building continues to focus on the battle for power and control, as our heroine becomes a pawn in a war between the powerful crime families and everything it represents.

The relationship between Marchello and Lissia continues to be combative. Lissia Gallanti is naïve, reckless, impulsive, defiant and often TSTL (too stupid to live). Believing her father is innocent of the crimes for which he has been accused, our heroine places herself in the direct line of fire on numerous occasions. Marchello never expected to fall in love with the sassy and rebellious Lissia Gallanti, and in doing so, finds himself reconsidering his every move. The $ex scenes are intimate, aggressive and provocative with scenes of spanking and bondage.

We are reintroduced to Marchello’s brother Milo, guard Ricardo; Lissia’s embittered father Gian, and Lissia’s childhood friends and cartel contact Lorenzo Garcia and Mateo Blanco. The requisite evil has many faces.

VICIOUS VOWS is another story of power and control, secrets and lies, betrayal and vengeance, murder and madness, family and relationships. The character driven premise is dramatic, tragic and gritty; the characters are fierce and determined; the romance is predicated upon protection and obsession.
